The time spent in the LAPD lockup wasn't bad for Tom. He was kept alone and well away from other prisoners. The officer in the lockup did their best to keep Tom's spirits up. None of them believed he could have killed in cold blood. A number expressed the opinion that it may have been an accidental shooting. It sounded possible since Tom was struck on the head. Tom remained strong and believed his friends, family and loved ones would find a way to get him out of this. When the order came down that sent Tom to the county lockup. He remained just as strong, even though he was facing a uncertain future. Unlike the LAPD lockup, Tom wasn't placed in protective custody. He ended up in the general population. This was a sign that things had gone from bad to beyond worse. Cons, just love when a cop gets tossed into their laps. From the moment Tom was brought in, he had a price on his head. Some were willing to pay for Tom's life. Others wanted parts of his body only Evie & Kim were familiar with. Tom was fighting for his life from the moment he arrived. He knew taking a shower would be his downfall. Tom rarely left his cell. It seemed like the safest place. Eating would also be a dangerous. Tom knew going into the area were the prisoners ate would most certainly end up bad.
Many of the deputies brought Tom some food. He ate in his cell and remained there until the word came down that he would be released. Tom didn't know how it happened, or what his friends & family did to free him. At that moment, it didn't matter. Tom was just glad it was all over. Evie & Perry brought Tom clothing, soap and towels. He took a much needed shower and put on the clean clothes afterwards. The reunion with Evie was one Tom played out in his mind many times. It always seemed to be much dirtier in his thoughts than how it really happened. Tom didn't mind waiting for a more private welcome home from Evie. He had been out of action for sometime now and wanted to be surrounded by his friends & family. Back at the boat, the party went into full swing mode once Tom arrived. Phone calls came in from San Fransisco, San Diego and Hawaii. Visitors came by the boat who just wanted to welcome Tom back. Chief Beck personally delivered Tom's badge and returned him to active duty as head of the MCU. The Governor made an appearance saying that he was glad everything worked out for the best. During the press conference where James announced that the charges against Tom were dropped. The Governor made it clear to the press that Tom was fully cleared and would be back on duty as MCU Commanding Officer. The press conference played at the top of every news broadcast and was replayed throughout the day.
As the party continued on, Tom finally learned the details of what happened. Jack being the great storyteller, made it sound like he did 99% of the work on his own. This was of course just a jab at his family for all those times when they groaned at his stories. James told Tom that everyone had worked to free him. It was Evie that pointed out how Alyssa found the one clue that led to Tom's freedom. The file Alyssa read wasn't even an important one. It was even marked so by the investigators on the nun rape cases years ago. Something like that could have been over looked. But being that Alyssa was almost a year out of the academy. The lessons of not overlooking anything was still fresh in her mind. Perry Mason enjoyed his time with the Taylor's & Reed's. He said it was time for him to leave. Perry reached into his coat and pulled out his bill. Jack suddenly acted as if his memory was gone. He started pointing at Steve, then to James, Evie and Kim. Jack acted as if each of them had the idea of hiring Mr. Mason. Steve just shook his head. " Oh no......Not this time Scrooge.....It was your idea. " Steve said while taking the bill from Perry and place it in his father's hand. Jack laughed as did everyone. Perry left, but he wasn't the only one who had a bill that needed paid. Nick, Cody & Murray who had been there along with other guests had their own bill. This bill was handed to Evie since she was the one who hired the Riptide Detective Agency.
Callen & Sam made jokes about Evie hiring a group of PI's to do her dirty work. Deeks spoke up and said Evie should have just hired him. He could have used the extra cash. Kensi then questioned her partner on what he would have used the money for? She said it certainly wouldn't have been used to buy anything useful, like a new wardrobe. Deeks just scoffed at this and said his style was a statement. Kensi laughed and said it was more like a cry for help. Tom sat there on the couch. He had his right arm around Evie and Alyssa sat on his other side. Being out of jail was great and being with these people was even better.
