A Dragons Revenge

Alec sighed as he turned away from her and stood just as the kettle began to whistle, "I've looked, I've been to continents that are not yet marked on maps been to lost cities that my people once lived in. I have searched for five years and found nothing but an old temple dedicated to my people. I am alone." he said his voice resonated with despair and sadness as he made the tea. He poured some in her cup first then his, "It was interesting to know that man once worshiped my ancestors though slightly disturbing it what they believed we wanted as sacrifice." he said his tone lighter as he seemed to find that piece of history humorous. He sat down and poured a good portion of honey into his tea, "I remember visiting a village on one of those continents they had a festival where a group of men would hold up a dragon made from cloth and make it 'dance'." he said still smiling as he remembered that day. "Perhaps we'll go there when they celebrate the new year again." he suggested sipping on his tea.

As she heard that he had gone searching for others she felt even worse. To find out that your the last of your kind, she was sure that it was crushing to a person yet he was still standing there. Yet as he told her of the different places that his people had been he kept wondering just how it felt to travel about like he had. "Well I guess that would be nice though that's a ways off" she said to him as she wasn't sure if she would be with him then. Though there was no telling if he decided to come get her again to take her there. As he poured the tea she picked her cup up and blew the tea down a little before she finally took her first few sips. She smiled as she found she liked this tea she hadn't had it before. "What is this?" she asked as she took another sip.

Alec thought for a moment then answered, "Its Dragon Tongue tea. Its a strange name though accurate to a point." he said as he took another drink of tea. "The leaves are shaped like a dragons tongue and are red." he explained, "It grows wild in many places but mostly in deserts in thrives on little water." he went on. "Its good for dragons doesn't do much for humans other than taste good." he concluded with a shrug of his shoulders. "How do you like it?" he asked as he took another drink, he sat quietly and looked seemingly through the stone of the kitchen walls when he sighed steam rolled out clearly showing what it did for dragons.

Trisha gave a soft smile as she drank the tea hearing what he said on the tea itself. Though as she watched the effect it had on him she gave a small giggle at it. "It tastes really good" she said to him as she actually liked it. Though after answering it she wasn't sure what else to say to him. She blushed a little as she thought of really getting to know him more only she knew that she would really get much at all she was sure, not knowing the other half of the curse placed on her.

Alec sighed peacefully and with his sigh came a flow of steam, "The weather is good enough tonight we might be able to see them." he said cryptically as he drank his tea. "They really are beautiful and we're in the right place to really see them." he went on smiling as he thought how she would enjoy seeing the Lights. "Have you ever seen the Great Lights?" he asked her as he looked at her. He watched her looking for her reaction and to look at her blush it made his heart beat faster as he felt a strange desire to feel her lips pressed to his, "They are a marvel of these lands." he finished smiling at waiting for her answer.

As she heard him speak on how they could watch the lights here she thought on it. "I would love to see them. Sadly I've never seen them in person though a few painted what it looked like and brought it to the castle so I have some idea on what they look like" she said to him as she knew it was something she did want to see. As she kept sipping at the tea happy with the taste of it

"A painting can not capture the true beauty of the Lights, you really will enjoy this." he said smiling as he finished his tea, "For now we can return to the city and pick up my clothes and explore the city some more." he said his tone was happy. He stood up and started to exit the kitchen, "I have to grab my gold and we can go." he said as he left and headed for his room. When he was out of sight of the Princess he frowned he was beginning to feel something for the princess he wanted to show her amazing things and something deep within him wanted to give her something truly dear to him. He quickly gathered his gold and his sword before heading back toward the cave entrance and waited for her while belting on his sword and gold pouch.

Trisha gave a smile as she heard that from him as she knew that he would most likely know all about it as he must know the best place to look at it from. As he spoke on getting some more coin to get his things and staying in the town a little while she wondered what else she would be seeing as she looked to him coming back in the room. "Ready?" she asked him as she stood at the entrance for him to come and them head off.

Alec nodded as he took her in his arms he stood there holding her just looking into her eyes for a long moment before transforming a bit and unfurling his wings. He tightened his grip on her before taking off not dropping like he had done before, he soared over the mountains and past the ruins back toward the city. Like before he landed outside the gate and again he stood apparently reluctant to to pull away from her, the entered the city where he began to talk about its history how the lords had at once rebelled and the ensuing war had destroyed the city that at that time had not been as large as it was now. "It was Lord Thrad of House Drugiin that rebuilt the city turning it into what you see before you now." he finished as they neared the clothing shops.

Trisha looked to him as she felt him pull her to his side as she blushed. While she had been this close to him before she found that each time she felt even more flustered. The town was amazing still to her as she walked through listening to what he told her on the town. "He was smart" she said as she walked only her stomach started to give a soft growl. She blushed as she grew worried he might have heard that as she didn't want to spend much more of his money.

Alec smiled hearing her stomach growl quietly, "Once we're done here we'll go eat at the Lion & Lamb." he said mentioning one of the cities inns named for the constellation. He entered the shop and the store owner called him indicating the small stack of packages on the counter. putting them into a leather pack Alec paid for the clothes and waved to farewell to the store owner. "Thrad was not as wise as many believe the city is to large for its garrison to maintain many key areas of the city have become dens for thieves as those areas rarely see a City guard patrol. the only place safe to live without fear of a knife in your back are the areas where the lords live and even then saying you won't get a knife in the back is a small comfort." he said as he led to her to the Inn.

The Inn was average for such a place the few patrons were drinking at there tables the Inn keeper a skinny bald man wearing a white apron that hung loosely on his bony shoulders hurried over and bowed to them. "Ah my lord Alec it is a pleasure to see you again and with a lady as well. How may I serve you today?" the man said smiling pleasantly at them.

"A private dining room and a meal." Alec said handing over the appropriate coin.

"At once my lord." said the Inn keeper motioning for them to follow him.

The Inn keeper led them down a hall near the stairs and into a well lit dining room the table was smaller than in most but it worked well in the room. "Your meal will be here shortly." the Inn keeper informed them as he bowed out of room.

"If your wondering yes I am a lord here how that happened is simple I own the City." he said simply as he sat at the table smiling at her as he tried not to laugh at this little joke of his.

Trisha looked to him as she heard what the plan was now as she nodded her head grateful she didn't have to ask him for them to go to get dinner. Still as they moved about the town she was truly loving this place as it seemed to just find its place in her heart as she gave a soft sigh hearing the problems of the town. "Thats sad. Is there no way to help those people?" she asked him as she truly wanted to see the town florish the best it could.

Still as they reached the Lion & Lamb she was shocked as she heard that he was the lord of the town. "So does that make you a king?" she teased a little as she just couldn't resist saying such a thing still it was great to hear that he took ownership in something as she was also happy to hear he had a place to call his home other than the cave.

No, not a king to be a king I would need to chop off allot of heads. I actually own the province I just don't tell anyone that...due to my position with your kingdom and my unwillingness to cause a war. So I'm a shadow High Lord and the current High lord sits in my place, how I got the gold to do it is about my adventures out in the world looking for others of my kind." he said while they waited for the food. I was fly north toward what ancient maps and very old ledgers told of a series of Islands called the Dragon Isle's a very creative name but its name came from its shape from the air it looks like a giant dragon floating on the water with a few bits just under the water. I searched the Island for many months till I came upon a cave or what was now a cave that turned out to have once been a palace. I found the treasure and hauled it here of course now its all in the cities coffers which is another reason why the city flourishes when trade is at its slowest." he finished explaining. A few quiet minutes passed then the food arrived roast goose, stuffed potatoes and vegetable stew, Alec thanked the Inn keeper as the bony man left with another three gold for his trouble.

As she listened she understood a little more on how he thought. She couldn't believe he was truly nothing like her father and mother told her of. She wondered more of him as she sat there listening to how he seemed to make things work out for him and the city. She gave a soft smile as she listened hanging on his every word. She didn't want to miss a single thing as he told her yet as he came about telling her how he made it that the city would flourish even during the off season she gave an even brighter smile. "It seems tat you've done well to take care of the people here" she said to him just as the food arrived at their table. The sight of it had her stomach growling once more as she giggled and looked over the food again being sure she would love it all she started to go on the food after she gave grace. "Thank you for this" she said to him as well as she knew he most likely could have saved money and fed her in the cave. Though she had to say she really liked this a bit better as she got to hear much more about the world.

Alec nodded as she thanked him for the food before responding to her comment about him taking care of the people, "I believe that Nobility is a Noble thing but it means I am a servant to my servants I ensure that they are protected able to be paid for the work they do." he said pausing to put eat some stew. "To many nobles have forgotten that there position exists at the will of the people not the other way around." he finished and focused on eating. There was Wine to drink along with the food but Alec had ordered a special Ale for himself, "I miss Orion Ale I discovered it while traveling through the country of Isla it small beautiful country the people there had never seen a Dragon they were nice people loved to eat and drink not to mention talk." he said smiling, "If I could I would have bought the recipe for the Ale from its brewer but he wouldn't give it up." he added sadly looking at the pint he held as though by sheer desire he could turn the ale into the brew he longed for. "I suppose you've never heard of Isla?" he asked her though he already guessed the answer he had talked allot about himself and he knew they shared some of the same interests but he still wanted to know more about her.
