The Untamed ( Katy1008 & CrimsonMaster )

JP enjoyed those soft, sweet kisses from Katie. These were the moments when JP would most miss while he was gone, and these moments would urge him on to come back quickly to Katie. JP unwrapped his arms from around Katie then sat down in one of the chairs. He could see Katie not only as a law officer, but she would make a great wife and mother. JP started to eat while Katie was talking about what they were doing today. He nodded his head with a smile on his face when she said about the jail being empty and that she would make sure that Colorado would be okay doing the morning patrol while they went out to her mine.

" Well we almost have to go out to the mine.......don't forget Dolph Oberg is meeting us out front in a little while. " JP said as he reached out for his cup of coffee, he just placed the cup down when Katie started talking about settling up with the manager of the hotel. JP couldn't help but blush a bit then he admitted to Katie that her bill was taken care of for the rest of the week. JP had told Katie that he told the hotel manager to combine both bills then send it to Washington for payment. JP said that since Katie helped with his case against the Crenshaw's, he felt that she deserved something in the way of payment from the government.

Katie smiled as she chewed on the piece of bacon. "Ah yes. How could I forget Mr Oberg." She drank some more coffee then put her mug down on the table.

"What do you say then Marshall. Meet you out front in about an hour? That should give you time to get cleaned up and dressed. I'll go check in with Colorado and get our horses. And as you've graciously mad sure my bill is covered till the end of the week I'll go see if I can get a room for after that. Maybe I might mov in to the 'suite' upstairs." Once JP had agreed, Katie disappeared.

She found the hotel manger and rebooked herself into the hotel indefinitely. She really hasn't given any thought where she was going to live. She figured it had to be in town so that really meant three possibilities; the jailhouse, the whorehouse or the hotel. The Jailhouse wasn't exactly comfortable or private. The whorehouse didn't seem quite right; she might own it now but she was the town marshal. So that left the hotel. On the top floor there was what the manager called a suite - two connected rooms - a reception room with a bureau, a dining table and chairs and some comfortable seating and then a connecting door to a bedroom. It was not as cheap as the single room of course but hell...she had the money to be comfortable. The hotel manager was very pleased. Not only an indefinite rental on his most expensive accommodation but free security!

She wandered over to the jailhouse and found Colorado already there. He had fresh coffee already brewed and was going through the overnight mail. There had been no arrests overnight. Katie sat and had a coffee with him, checking he was happy on his own for the morning and letting him know where they would be. From there she went to the livery and got both her own and JPs horse and she drew up outside the hotel just as JP was walking onto the sidewalk.

JP smiled as Katie said what she was going to do. He then said that he would meet her out front. JP finished his breakfast then headed into the bathroom where he took a bath then shaved his face. Once he was dried off JP put on his clothes, always dressing in the same style black suits with the red vest and white dress shirt. JP then put his gun belt around his waist. He took the tray down to the kitchen before walking out of the hotel seeing Katie was waiting for him.

Dolph soon came with his donkey in tow, it was carrying all the tools a miner would need plus gear for camping. It would seem that Dolph would stay at the mine which JP thought was a good idea since he could guard the mine until others could be hired to work along with him. The three wear soon on their way. The mine was only a few miles away from where Katie had once lived and before long they had reached the mine which was well hidden. With all the over grown brush and trees no one would ever expect that there was a mine here.

Dolph had brought some torches with him which he lit then handed one to JP then to Katie, he also had one for himself, he also took a pick axe in his other hand. The three slowly entered the mine which was black as night inside until the light from the torches lit the way. It was easy too see the gold which lined the walls. It glistened from the light made by the torches, and it was all over the walls.

Katie took the torch although she wasnt entirely sure why. She wasn't a miner. She didn't particularly want to go down into the mine. She was going to be paying Dolph and others... People who knew what they were doing and who were quite content spending lots of time underground.

Katie did know however that mines were dangerous places and she really wanted to minimise those dangers. She wasn't stupid enough to think she could eliminate all risk but she told Dolph that she had no intention of cutting corners on safety. There was no rush to get the gold out. And she'd rather they took their time and got it out as safely as they could than rush and get men killed.

Dolph and JP spent some time talking about the appropriate engineering, the tools and numbers of men they would need. The supply train. The mechanisms for fetching the gold back to town. Katie trusted JP so if it sounded good to him, that was all that mattered.

A few hours later though, JP and her were heading back to town with a list of supplies which Dolph had indicated e needed.

Once back in town JP went to the bank and based on what he told them about the amount of gold which was in the mine, the bank gladly gave Katie a $10,000 dollar line of credit so she could get the mine open. JP knew that once the mine was up and running it wouldn't take long for Katie to pay the bank what she owed.

JP headed out of the bank on his way to meet Katie at her office when he noticed two men dressed in long grey coats. They were standing in front of the general store which was right next to the bank. JP stared at these men then crossed the street. Upon reaching the other side of the street JP turned slightly looking behind him and there were three more men slowly riding into town wearing the same long grey coats. JP's gut was telling him that these men were outlaws looking for an easy target which they thought was the bank in Victorville.

JP had stopped to chat with the barber who was out front of his shop sweeping the wooden sidewalk off. The reason for this was JP wanted to get a better look at the men on the horses. He had his back to the barber shop while talking with the barber and watching these men. JP didn't know the two standing in front of the store, but he did know two of the men on the horses. He bid the barber a good day then moved on down to Katie's office. This was going to be a planned strike at the bank, everything would be timed so the outlaw band could get in and out quickly.

As JP entered Katie's office he walked over to where the wanted posters where hanging on a board then told Katie that the bank in town was about to be robbed. He pointed out each of the men in the group who made up the Anderson Gang. Both Clay & Bob were wanted for murder & bank robbers all over the west. JP then told Colorado to get a rifle which he did pulling down a Winchester Rifle from the gun rack. He loaded the rifle quickly as JP pulled a 12 gauge shotgun down from the rack. He cracked the weapon open then slipped two shells inside before closing the weapon and pulling back on the hammers.

JP looked at Katie asking her what she wanted, he pulled down her choice of weapons then handed it to her. Clay & Bob Anderson entered the bank with another man named Gunner Meed while the other two men outside split up each taking one side of the bank and watching for trouble.

Katie stood up as JP came in and looked a little shocked at what he said as she took the Springfield 'Trapdoor' rifle from JP. This was a newer model, but her father had taught her to shoot using the Springfield when she was a young teenager; it was the rifle that she was most familiar and therefore most comfortable. Following JPs example, she cracked it open, loaded it and then locked it back up. She looked from JP to Colorado and back.

"Five against three huh? We've had worse I guess. What do you want to do? Let them rob it and take them on the way out or try and stop them before they get anything?"

JP already knew what they would do before Katie even asked her question. He said that they should start down the street now then take the gang as they come out of the bank. This way no one in the bank gets hurt when the lead starts to fly. JP said that Katie & Colorado should go out the back door of her office, then slip around so they could come in on the other side of the bank. With JP coming down the street from Katie's office they would catch the gang in a crossfire.

" Take them alive if you can.......but don't hesitate to kill if you have too........remember........it's them or you......and they won't think twice about killing you. " JP said in a firm, commanding voice as he looked to both Katie & Colorado. Then he told Katie that since she was the law in this town she should yell out for them to drop their weapons and give up. Of course JP didn't expect harden outlaws to just give up without a fight, but they as law officers still need to follow the law first.

JP waited until Katie & Colorado went out the back door of Katie's office. He knew that they wouldn't be spotted running along the back of the buildings so they would get on the other side of the bank quickly. JP stepped out of the front door tipping his hat two a couple of passing ladies then he started back down towards the bank. He was walking on the opposite side of the street from the bank so he could watch every move made by the outlaw gang.

Katie didn't say anything. She looked at Colorado asking silently if he was set. He replied with a nod. Katie looked back to JP and gave her own nod of agreement. without any further hesitation, she headed for the back door of the jailhouse, with Colorado a few paces behind her.

They jogged one behind the other down the back of the buildings and a minute or so later they were both two buildings up on the other side of the bank. Katie peered out from the small alley way between a mercantile store and a candy shop. She looked across the street toward the bank and then down the street searching until she spotted JP. In an ideal position would be for her to get onto the other side of the street in the alley way between the bank and the general store so that she would be behind the robbers as they came out. She looked across towards the bank again this time searching for faces which matched the wanted posters. Two men. Grey coats. They were in front of the store. Maybe if she went up the rear alley a couple more blocks, she could cross the street and come back down the alley which ran behind the buildings opposite. But her thinking was interrupted. Three men stepped out from the bank. Saddlebags over their shoulders. Grey coats. The two in front of the store fell in behind them and they all headed for their horses tied in front of the bank. Katie looked behing her to check Colorado was on the same page and then she took a breath before stepping out from the shadow a little, but staying close enough to dive for cover.

"Stop where you are gentlemen. Put the bags down and keep your hands well away from hardware."

"Stay

JP stood not from far the barbershop looking up the street for a sign that Katie & Colorado were ready. He didn't see anything until Katie's head came peeking around the corner of a building. JP had kept the shotgun on his left side which was facing away from where the outlaws were. This would keep them from seeing that he was up to something. JP's head snapped quickly around when the three men came out of the bank. He spun around pointing the shotgun at them just as Katie yelled out for them to stop, drop their saddlebags down and to keep their hands away from their hardware.

The outlaws looked at Katie as she stood with a rifle in her hands. They laughed then drew their pistols. Clay & Bob Anderson fired at Katie just as one of their men was trying to move back so he could get a better shot with the rifle he just pulled from his saddle. Once this man had moved back a few steps JP raised the shotgun then cut loose with both barrels which sent the man flying thought the large glass window of the store he was standing in front of. JP then dropped the shotgun pulling his pistol as Gunner Meed started firing at JP with two pistols. Gunner had taken cover behind a horse trough while JP duck behind a rain barrel. The lead was flying between these two places while Clay & Bob continued firing at Katie & Colorado.

Katie saw them look, saw the smiles and didn't need to wait for then to actually start firing before she dived for the cover of the building. As she hit the floor, she was conscious of Colorado standing over her and giving return fire. Katie scrambled around on the floor but stayed down, moving so that she too could return fire. She saw the first 'victim' blown backwards by the full force of both barrels, driving him through the store window behind him. Katie glanced quickly up the street to make sure JP was still upright and then she aimed for the man behind the water trough, having a much better view of him than JP now had. She tried not to rush ignoring the wood splintering over her head. Took a breath. Squeezed. The man went down and didn't move.

A another thunderous crack was heard throughout the street. This was Katie's Springfield going off, her shot hit it's target dropping Gunner Reed to the ground. Clay & Bob took refuge in an alleyway beside the bank while their last man jumped on the back of a horse. He tried to make an escape, but was stopped when Colorado's Winchester Rifle took him off the horse. The man was laying in the middle of the street, his horse was gone which had his rifle on it. He was in great pain since Colorado shot him in the shoulder. His pistol had fallen from it's holster, and was laying just a few feet away.

The man tried to reach for it, but again Colorado made sure that wouldn't happen. Colorado's second shot was even more well placed hitting the pistol dead on, and sending it skidding down the street. From where JP was knelling down he had a clear shot at Clay Anderson's hand which he was holding his gun in and firing at Katie & Colorado. JP waited until Clay's popped out to fire at Katie & Colorado then he fired. The bullet from JP's pistol sailed through the air striking Clay on his wrist causing him to drop his weapon, but Bob was firing at JP and the rain barrel that he was hiding behind was quickly fulling with holes.

Katie watched as first one and then another fell. With her shot that was four of them down. One more. She cast a quick glance up the street and saw JPs cover quickly disappearing. She looked back towards the last man

"Anderson" she called out. "Give it up. Two of your men are dead. Two are injured to the point that they can't do anymore. That just leaves you." a shot headed in her direction and she ducked down. Colorado returned two shots. "You're going to run out of ammunition before we do. We have an endless supply. We just have to wait and we take you any way. Give it up while you have the chance."

Bob Anderson knew that he could hold out longer, but Clay was shot in the wrist and bleeding badly. Clay needed a doctor, so did the other man and Bob knew that. If he did try to hold out, one or more could bleed to death and really there was little chance of escaping. Bob tossed his pistol out into the street then walked out from between the buildings with his hands in the air.

JP slowly stood up from behind the rain barrel, he kept his pistol on Bob in case this was a trick. He then turned towards the barber who was peeking out of his shop and asked him to go tell the doctor that there would be prisoners in the jailhouse that need medical attention. The barber quickly ran down the street towards the doctor's office.

Katie watched him, staring, almost as if she could see his brain working out the options. Weighing up the choices. Trying decide how long he may be able to hold off the three lawmen. How much ammunition did he have? How good a shot was he in comparison. Could he pick them off one by one? And what about his brother. Katie would swear that she could have pinpointed the moment he realised that there was only one choice. For both himself and his brother.

As she saw him toss his weapon out, Katie's shoulders relaxed a little. As he stepped forward, she stood up slowly. She was aware of Colorado moving past her quickly, heading for the man, his gun still aimed just in case. She slipped her own gun back into the holster and moved towards Clay. She knelt down and used the man's own neckerchief to stem the blood flow from his shoulder until the doc arrived.

"Do you need to take him to your place to fix him up or can you do it at the jail doc?"

With the action still going on up the street Doctor Morton known around town as Doc Morton came rushing up. Doc Morton was an older man in his early sixties, but he was in great shape. He moved around checking each man then Doc looked over at Katie when she spoke. " I don't believe they will need to come to my office.........they can be taken to the jail.......I'll treat them there. " Doc said as Colorado moved in behind Bob Anderson getting ready to move him down the street towards the jail.

Once Doc had said that these men could be treated at the jail JP started to get everyone to their feet. The undertaker came up to take care of the one man that JP killed at the start of the gun fight. Colorado began moving down to the jail as JP started everyone else moving a bit slower. Many of the town's people came out to congratulate Katie on a job well done. Katie was showing everyday that she was the right choice for the job as Town Marshal, and that a woman could do this job just as good if not better then any man could.

Katie tried to stay close to Colorado. It wasn't that she didn't think he could manage on his own; quite the reverse. But she wanted out of the milling crowd. She put the false smile in place and nodded her thanks, but she really wanted to get out of the street and back to the safety of the jailhouse.

"Thank you..... Thanks..... Your welcome.... It wasn't just me.... There were three of us... Not just me... Thank you..."

Gradually the crowd thinned and the three of the made it to the jailhouse with their prisoners. The Doc was a few minutes behind them, by which time the two would-be robbers were in the cells with Clay sitting on the bed cradling his wrist. Katie sat down at the desk and started writing her first report in the jailhouse log. She checked the calendar to see when the judge was next calling in to town. The Andersons would certainly be with them till then. As she was mulling over the papers, Colorado placed a mug of coffee on the table next to her. She looked up.

"What do you think? Would it be seen as precipitous if we found someone to build us a gallows? Or should we wait for the outcome of the trial first?"

JP stayed with the prisoners while Doc Morton tended to their wounds. Colorado felt that Katie could use a cup of coffee so he got one for her then one for himself. He placed Katie's mug onto her desk while she asked him about having someone build a gallows. Colorado doubted that the outlaws would be found innocent after trying to rob the bank in town, and they were wanted all over the state for other crimes including murder. " We should have one either way Marshal. " Colorado said as he sat down on the edge of Katie's desk then took a slip of his coffee. " Even if they don't get a death sentence......someone will. " Colorado added as he looked down at Katie. He hoped now after showing Katie how he could handle himself that she would fell the same trust that JP had in him.

It was long before Doc Morton & JP came out from the room where the cells were kept. JP told Colorado to make sure that the Anderson gang had their breakfast, lunch & dinner. Nothing special, just whatever the restaurant at the hotel had cooking that day. The undertaker soon came by with the belongs of the dead man. He placed the gun & belt on Katie's desk, along with a large knife, a rifle, a canteen, shells for both guns and the man's saddlebags & bed roll. He left after giving Katie his bill for burying this man in the town cemetery. She would then give the bill to the Mayor for payment.

Katie finished of the paperwork as she continued the conversation.

"you're probably right..." She looked up and smiled "...but nobody's guilty of anything until a judge and jury finds the guilty...although finding a jury might not be the easiest thing in this town seeing as most of the town probably saw the attempted robbery going down." she closed the book, having written the report and slid it back into the drawer.

"You were pretty good out there...." she looked across as Doc and JP reappeared but looked back at Colorado as she stood up. "Definitely a good man to have around."

Over the next hour or so, they set things in place to take care of their "guests" and of their friends who had not quite been so lucky. Their horses were put in the livery. Their money and guns were put into the jailhouse safe. Drinking more coffee later on, the undertaker's account in her hand.

"You know I have a feeling that our town undertaker might be getting paid a regular income from the people of the town."

Over the next few days, Katie & Colorado settled themselves into a routine. Sharing parts of the day, dividing up the nights, identifying appropriate patrol routes but recognizing they couldn't fall into a pattern. They took advice from JP when he felt he needed to give it. When Katie slept, JP was with her and Colorado found himself a girl in town very quickly. He began dating Sally Harris the daughter of the town's Mayor. She's a pretty girl with blond hair & blue eyes that sparkle like clear water on a sunny day.

New life was returning to Victorville. People started coming back which brought in new business. Katie's mine opened when LQ Jones who was a mining engineer and an old friend of JP's came to Victorville after receiving a telegram from JP. He would run the mine for Katie while she was busy with keeping the town safe. The Crenshaw family who lived back east sent a telegram to the Mayor telling him that they wanted nothing from their sons illegal activity. The town took control over everything the Crenshaw's once owned, then the whorehouse was officially sold to Katie along with the building next door.

It didn't take longer for works to expand Katie's place making it large then it was before. Everything that JP had suggested to Katie was put in and Katie was making more money in one night from the new tables then she had been making in a months time. Every weekend shows were performed on the new stage. The first show was HMS Pinafore which played before a packed house. It was a gala affair since the town never had a place with a stage before now and many people showing up in their Sunday best.

Katie now had two business in town and was given a seat on the town council. She had 20 men working at her mine and 30 people working at her saloon & whorehouse, of which 12 were " Katie's girls " as they came to be known. During this time JP stayed with Katie helping her & giving advice. Then the time came however when JP needed to get back to his own job. A message came for him saying that an outlaw named Texas Red had killed a Federal Judge & two US Marshals in Dallas. JP was ordered to go after Red and take him down.

JP left Victorville two days later after two nights of wild pleasure and a tearful goodbye from Katie. He swore to Katie that he return once this job was done. But Texas Red wouldn't be so easy to catch as JP would soon find out. Red had already slipped out of Texas, escaping into the Indian territory in Oklahoma. He then headed west towards California with a company of Texas Rangers tracking him.

Texas Red was a young man of only 21 years, but he had already killed 25 men during the last few years of his young life. He got the name Red from his bright red hair, although not many knew his real name which was Thomas Kincaid. Red joined up with some friends who were waiting in Oklahoma for him. They then set a trap for the Texas Rangers that Red knew had been on his trail. All entire company of Rangers were killed in an ambush then Red & his two friends continued moving towards California.

A month had passed since JP left to catch Texas Red when a new man come to town. He was a tall handsome man, much like JP in the way his body was built except this man was a few years younger. His name was Raf Hollister and with this man came new money since he was rich. His family was big in the cattle business back in Arizona which is how Raf made his fortune. He brought with the promise of new business which also followed. Soon another hotel was built, followed by another saloon, a second bank and other smaller business. The town also added to more streets off of the main street, Victorville was growing and growing fast.

The Mojave Indians also returned to town. A tribe lived just 15 miles from town, but Victor Crenshaw wouldn't allow the Indians to do business in town. That all changed once Katie became Marshal and said that the business owners could sell to whomever they wished too. A small group of Indians had been in town the day Katie, JP & Colorado faced off with the Anderson gang. They returned to their tribe with the tail of this warrior woman. The tribes Chief Ten Bears was fascinated by the story of Katie the Warrior Woman and he wanted to meet her. A woman who dressed & fought like a man and yet was very beautiful? This was something that Ten Bears needed too see for himself. He ordered his braves to bring her to their camp if she was ever found wondering around by herself.

For the first time in a lot of years, Katie was enjoying a normal life. Sure, it wasn't exactly the typically 'normal' life that women tended to live; that expectation was gone a long time ago. But it wasnt a life that was founded only on revenge and anger and pain. She had a home, albeit the top floor of a hotel but the hotel owner was more than happy at having the town marshal as a permanent resident. She had a man who she was pretty sure she had fallen in love with; a man who was as much a teacher and friend as he was a lover. She couldn't deny that she missed him while he was away. She didn't resent his absence; he wouldnt be the man he was had he elected to give up his job to stay with her. But she did miss him. Missed his advice and guidance. Missed his friendship. Missed him in her bed. It had been four long weeks and there had been a few nights recently when she had contemplated spending a little more time in the whorehouse than she had done on the other nights when she called in for a drink and to check Lily was ok. But so far she had finished her drink, said a few hellos and good nights and had left to go to her bed alone.

She had other friends of course... lots of them. She knew that some people in town called themselves her friend more because they wanted to have a marshal as a friend but others were much more genuine. Lily. Some of the girls. Charlie back in Barstow. Colorado. She was glad he had found himself a nice girl and she hoped that things would work out for them both. The Mayor didn't seem too keen at first; he wasn't altogether convinced of Colorado's past, but gradually Colorado won him over.

As she walked down the street, making herself visible, making the law of the town visible, thinking about how much her life had changed in the last few months, she saw the town's newest resident. Raf Hollister was on the opposite side of the street outside of the new saloon. The new business he had brought to town had definitely caused a drop in her own profits but she didn't really mind. It sounded ridiculous but she already had more money than she could spend in a lifetime and what Raf had bought with him was good for the town. At least that was how it looked right now. As she looked across at him, she saw him looking back, smiling a little. He lifted his hat in a silent hello and then placed it back on his head. She nodded in acknowledgment. He was a good looking man. And he knew it. And the smile he gave her suggested that he knew she knew it. A big man but fit, strong, confident. Katie thought he was perhaps a little too confident... arrogant was a better word. As she walked and glanced across every so often, he saw one woman after another passing him, stopping, flirting, moving on. Perhaps somewhat uncharitably, Katie thought they probably found his money as attractive as anything else. When she saw him throw yet another look in her direction, she suddenly realized how long she had been watching him, how mnay looks she had given him.... she mentally slapped herself and pulled her gaze away, forcing herself to focus on something else. 15 minutes later though she was on her return trip, a trip which took her down the opposite side of the street. When she saw him still stood on the sidewalk, she thought about taking a different route then mentally slappped herself again for her own stupidity. As she approached, she saw that one of the girls from the whorehouse - Rosie Wallis - was talking to him, holding his arm, laughing, flirting. Katie couldnt help but smile and she couldnt imagine that Raf was being anything other than polite with the Rosie. As she passed. she said good afternoon and barely missed a step as she walked passed the two of them.

Raf Hollister bought the old Crenshaw Ranch from the town. He had everything torn down then construction began on his new home. Raf wanted to wipe out every memory of the Crenshaw's since he had his own plans for this town. With the Crenshaw Brothers gone Victorville had become like a vacuum that needed to be filled and Raf Hollister would fill that hole. Unlike Victor, Raf knew that the town needed to grow in order for his fortune to grow. This was the smart way of making money and Raf was all about making money. Raf didn't care a gun on his hip like many others did, but he did have one and Raf knew how to use it.

Victorville now had to very rich people, one being Katie while the other was Raf. He was as stupid as the Crenshaw's were, Raf planned on getting his hands on Katie's money the old fashion way....he would marry Katie for it. His eyes had been on Katie since Raf came into town. But he had heard all about her from the men who had been set to town weeks before Raf showed up.

Raf always seemed to be waiting outside of his saloon when Katie would be out walking on her morning patrol. He could be seen each day talking with the town's people who passed by. Raf had a certain charm about him, his good looks and wit made him a hit with most people. Most people, but there was one person who felt that Raf was trouble, and that person was Colorado. From day one Colorado felt that Raf was nothing but trouble and he didn't like the way Raf made eyes at Katie.

Raf was hardly worried about Katie's Deputy Marshal, he had other more important things to worry about, like getting Katie into his bed. While he was talking with Rosie who was one of Katie's girls, Raf noticed Katie coming around the corner. A sly smile drifted over his face as he continued speaking with Rosie. Then just after Katie passed saying good afternoon Raf said his goodbyes too Rosie then headed after Katie.

Raf's eyes locked on Katie's ass as he moved up from behind her. He did enjoy the way Katie dressed. Sure she didn't dress like other women, Katie was never seen in a dress except for the opening night of the stage at her place. Katie always dressed in men's clothing then just seemed to fit her in all the right places. Her pants were hugging Katie's ass cheeks just as her shirt was tight acrossed her chest showing off those amazing tits.

" Hello Marshal Brooks. " Raf said as he moved along side of Katie as she walked. " You know since I've been in town......I've had dinner with many of the towns upstanding citizens......except for you. " Raf continued as walked along beside Katie. " I'd been honored if you would join me for dinner tonight?........then made some dancing later?....I hear there's a nice dance tonight at the new social hall. " Raf asked knowing full well about her past with JP, but that was something else that didn't worry Raf. He knew the longer JP was gone the better his chances were of getting Katie into his bed, then all Raf had to do was marry her and it was all over.

Katie was a little surprised. She hadn't heard him approaching and before she knew anything he was at her side, his hand resting on her upper arm, that smile gleaming, the charm oozing out of him. She smiled back at him but she was trying desperately trying not to appear like some silly girl... trying not to appear like Rosie.

"Well Mr. Hollister, im sure all of those citizens have been able to help you setlle in and get the things you came here for. And to bring to the town those things that you had to offer." She stopped and turned to look at him. "A town marshall doesnt really have much to offer a .... businessman like you." When she heard his invitation follow, she was a little surprised. It had been years since Katie had danced and for a second or two she wondered what it would be like to be in this man's arms. But perhaps that wasn't really what she wanted the rest of the townsfolk to see. She smiled and shook her head a little.

"Thank you for the offer. But Im .... Im not that it would be... entirely proper. And Im sure you can find lots of others willing to accompany you."

She turned and started walking again, heading towards the jailhouse, conscious that Raf was walking with her still

Raf's eyes were smiling down at Katie as she spoke. He felt that she would try and back out on a date with him. Raf just smiled when Katie used the excuse that it wouldn't look proper if she want out with him. This is what Raf had expected from Katie, but he wasn't a man that took no for an answer. Raf would just have to turn on the charm even more. " Are you afraid to let the people see you having a good time? " Raf asked as he looked deep into Katie's eyes. " You'll have to be at the dance anyway......and just because you are wearing a badge doesn't mean that you can't have some fun. " Raf said as he placed his right hand onto Katie's shoulder. " You have done a lot for this town since you saved it from the Crenshaw's......the least this town can do for you is to let you have a little fun. " Raf was hoping that his sweet talk and logic would convince Katie to join him.

Katie had done a lot for Victorville. She had given so much of her past life so that this town could be free. So why couldn't she have a little fun on the side. It wouldn't be like the town was unprotected, she would be at the dance and Colorado would be doing patrols. So Raf's logic seemed to be valid.

There was something about that look again. Katie almost felt like he was undressing her in his mind or even that somehow he knew exactly what she looked like out of her clothes. She looked away as she kept on walking and then she felt his hand on her shoulder again. She looked back up at him. What he was saying made sense. Being the town marshal didn't mean that she couldnt enjoy herself some times. She worked for the town practically 24 hours a day. Would one night off really make a difference.

"Im not sure I remember how to dance Mr Hollister. It has.... been quite a while." She chewed her lower lip a little, still trying to convince herself that it would be ok, that no-one would think anything bad of it. She looked away for a moment and smiled and then looked back at him.

"Ok.... I guess it would... thank you for the invitation."

Raf Hollister was a smooth criminal. He used his good looks, charm and money like weapons to get what he wanted. The town would be very safe and not because Colorado was on duty. Raf would have his men around town to make sure that nothing got in the way of him having his way with Katie. He had heard about Katie since coming to town, but knew nothing of those things that she had been forced to do. Raf knew how to read people, he could tell how to treat someone by how they acted. Right now Raf could tell that Katie was a strong woman, but she had an underside which was weaker and now showing. He would use this against Katie later tonight at the dance. After the dance Katie would end up in Raf's bed which was the first step to her becoming his bride.

" I'm glad that you will come to the dance with me. " Raf said as his hand which had been on Katie's shoulder moved upwards. His fingers lightly brushed over her cheek. " It wouldn't have been any fun without you Marshal. " Raf said as the charm poured out of him engulfing Katie. " I'll meet you for dinner at the restaurant......then we can go to the dance.....oh and don't worry about dressing fancy.....I want you just as you are. " Raf added then his hand lowered from Katie's cheek taking her hand. He raised Katie's hands to his lips then Raf placed a soft kiss on the back of Katie's hand. Raf tipped his hat to Katie then bid her a good day before leaving.
