Fiaza smiled at the soft pink box in her lap. Her best friend,  and bridemaid, Vivi had dropped it off this morning. Fiaza opened it slowly, holding her breath, and grinned. Inside the box was a simple summer dress.  It was made with a thin white material and had soft V-neck.

Fiaza went into the bathroom and changed into the dress. Her black lace bra and panties showed, but you'd have to look closely to see them, so it was fine.

She let her golden blonde hair, a color that made her hazel eyes pop, out of a pony- tail.  Her hair was right above her elbows in length. She combed through it with her fingers so it didn't look so messy. Her hair had a natural curl that bugged Fiaza slightly. Most of the time she straightened it out but recently she didn't have the time.

Fiaza went out into her living room trying to figure out what else needed to be done. Maybe she should call Vivi...

Life, Love, Family, and War, the four things that Eike knew about and soon enough, was coming to realize that his life was a mess. His best friend was getting married, a man that had been through wars without names and some military actions that horrified people. Eike just grew a hardened shell to the world, had to do that when you saw children sick, dying, hungry, images a person should never see but an image that was sired into Eike's mind. He lost his family when he was young and to survive, he enlisted. After his stint in the military was over, he contracted out as a protector of sorts to those that could paid. Sometimes he was in wars, sometimes, he trained young children, barely adults, to fight. And at times, guarded pompous men that made money on the suffering on others. But Eike pushed this aside, dressed for a casual time in greens and blacks, and driving up to the home of his friend, taking the man out on one last horrah of parties before he would be chained down to a lovely woman. When he pulled up to the place, he killed the engine and jumped out of the green cougar. The wind was nice, a low breeze, and the sun slowly setting down. He walked up to the front door, having to duck a bit for being a giant of his size. He then knocked on the door and said, "Christian, you in there?"

Fiaza jogged to the door and opened it. "Hey Eike." She said brushing hair out of her face. Fiaza wasn't sure about how she felt with Eike. There was something about him that made her chest tighten. She had hoped it would go away as the wedding came approached but no luck so far.

" Christian went out with some co-workers today and won't be back until tomorrow."She bounced on the balls of her feet slightly. She bit her bottom lip trying to think of something to say. She wanted to be friends with Eike, afterall he was going to be the Best Man at her wedding.  "What do you need? I'd be happy to take his place, just for today."

Eike was a little surprised to see Fiaza opening the door, but in a way, knew it was normal. "That stinks, came here from my last job to see him." Eike chuckled a bit and heard her offer to help if she could. "Well, I had originally came up here to have a drink with him, you know, buddy to buddy before the big day. However, since hes off, maybe you would like to have a drink instead," Eike suggested. "Give us a chance to talk without him moderating us, what'cha say to it?"

Fiaza smiled. "I'd like that, Christian is too over protective for his own good." She tucked her hair behind her ears. Spending some alone time with Eike should clear up any unclear feelings she had. "Let's keep this a secret from him, ok?"

Fiaza stepped outside, closing the door behind her. "I'm not very familar with drinks, I hope you'll keep me grounded."

Eike chuckled a bit and said, "don't order anything double or older then you and you should be fine." Eike walked back to his car and held the door open for Fiaza. Once in, he closed it and went in on the opposite side, where he started it up and drove them away from the house. "So, you wanna keep secrets from Christian," Eike stated, "doesn't surprise me, everyone having secrets that is. He has some, might tell you one day."

"Doesn't seem too hard." Fiaza said to herself. She should mange fine at the bar knowing that.

"He doesn't seem like the type for secrets." Fiaza said " But I'll worry about secrets later."

Fiaza pulled her phone out of her pocket and turned it off. "He calls every half hour, I hope he does freak when I don't answer." She grinned.

Eike chuckled, "knowing him, he will either call me to see if you are alright or come running for you." He turned a few streets and then headed down the main street. "So when did he start this whole, calling each half hour thing? I remember times where he would be gone for days without a peep." A thought came to mind, did she know what he use to do, that he use to be a gun for hire until he met her.

Fiaza laughed. "That sounds like something he'd do."

"A few weeks after we got engaged if I remember correctly." Fiaza said oblivious to Christain's old job "He only does it when he goes on trips, no matter how short of a trip. Sometimes I miss the freedom, but it'll be worth it. He's a good guy."

"Are you happy to see your buddy settling down?" She asked Eike.

Eike nodded and said, "seen him during his youth. In a way, it makes sense he would get married to someone, especially someone as pretty as you are." Eike weaved out of a small traffic jam without so much as flinching and said, "rush hour traffic, never saw this kind of stuff during my trips to the middle east." He turned back into the lane and continued down the main street. "So, his trips, he talks about them to you?" Eike wondered if he went back to the old business they knew.

Fiaza blushed slightly. "I'm glad you approve."

"He never really tells me about his trips with me." Fiaza said "When I ask about them he makes a comment about them being boring and that's it."

Eike sighed wondering if it were truths or lies. "Do you even know what he does for a job," Eike asked, hoping not to hear something like paper pusher or something, a key phrase he knew. Once downtown, he parked the cougar in a lot and killed the engine. "Your call of where we get drinks since I don't know downtown much."

"All I know is that is has to do with computers." Fiaza sighed "He doesn't explain it very well."

Fiaza looked around for a moment. "I think Jagger's is good. My friends seem to like it."

Eike saw Jaggers and said, "fine." But his mind lingered for a moment. Computer Work, when did he get training for that? He hated them, almost shot a few at times. "So, when did he get an education with computers?" Eike walked over to the other side and opened the door for Fiaza.

"Thanks." Fiaza said walking through the door with a small smile.

"He said it was before he met me." She said "Don't you remeber? It must of been at least a couple years of training..."

Please just be he learned really with computers, not back to war. "Huh, never realized he learned something, always seen him bashing them and almost threw one out of a window because it was acting up on him." He followed behind and got them a spot at a booth. "So, what does your parent's think of him, hopefully they see a nice guy."

"My parents haven't met him." Fiaza sighed "They didn't want me marrying at all. They refused to meet him at all."

"The bar is over there." Fiaza pointed to her left. "We could talk there."

"Oh!" She said " The dance floor is upstairs."

Eike chuckled a bit, she reminded him of Christian when he got excited as well when he was younger. "Well, your call of where you want to be," he told her. "Did they say why they didn't want you to marry him or something," Eike inquired as he ordered himself a beer.

"They said something about keeping me pure." Fiaza shook her head. "I think they wanted me to become a nun."

Fiaza ordered a fruity drink. "Too bad for them."

Eike chuckled a bit, "nothing against religion, but I've seen enough to know what I believe in." The waitress left and Eike asked, "so, did he tell you what we did back in the old days?" Eike figured it was a bad idea to maybe hint her fiance was an ex gun for pay but he wouldn't tell her that. Maybe say military civilian joint job or something.

"Whatever my parent are, I'm not." Fiaza laughed.

"He said something about the military." She said "How did you guys meet? He wouldn't tell me."

"Joint ops, some civilian and marines program over in the middle east," Eike replied. It was true, that was how they met but they both had been marines. "Mainly there to protect some locals and he happened to be there as well, can't remember what he was doing there to begin with, but after a few days, we hit it off okay. After the firefight in the week that followed, we sort of grew close to each other. Hence why we are like family pretty much now."

Fiaza opened her mouth to say something but a group of guys whistled from across the room. They were obviously drunk and were shouting unflattering complements. She shoved her hands in her pockets and tried to ignore them.

"Cool." She said "What was he like back then?"

Eike looked over at the men and did a quick assessment, figuring if they tried something, well, hospital there they go. He looked back over to Fiaza and said, "don't worry about those jerks. They're drunker then skunks, they try anything they couldn't even hold a fist up, let alone stand their ground." he sighed a bit as the drinks came back. he took a swig of his beer and said, "he was cocky, to smart for his pants, and asked to many questions. But hey, he knew how to survive no matter what. Figured a nuke could drop and the cockroaches would have stiff competition from him for dominance of the world."

Fiaza took sip of her drink and smiled. "Really? That's hard to imagine, he's so calm now." She said "But surviving sounds spot on! He's the most stubborn person I know."

"Your turn to ask questions." She said.
