Akiriu sat in his room, looking out to the kingdom below. The king was corrupt, the queen beheaded, the village wanting blood more and more each day. He wanted to fix the problems, but the king refused. So he sat, listening to the riot. "Guard!" He called out, asking for his personal guard. He wanted someone to talk to, and she was the closest thing he had to a friend.

Lineka was standing quietly outside of the prince's personal chambers, staring steadily at the ground. She was dressed somewhat misleadingly, in a long white tunic, with gray pants loosely flowing around her ankles. Around her waist was a gray silk belt, tied at her right hip and flowing down to her mid thigh. It held a sheathed sword on her left. Her tunic was vest like, but her arms weren't bare, long gloves reached but inches away from her shoulder. Although her clothing looked soft and silken, beneath it she wore a strong armor. She was a knight, personal guard to he prince of the kingdom, Akiriu. Her dark green eyes flashed when she heard the prince call for her, and stepped quickly into the room, closing the door behind her. She brushed some of her light blonde hair out of her face and walked quickly towards the prince, pausing a few feet away and bowing. "Your called your highness?" she murmured softly.

Akiriu smiled. The seriousness Lineka had amused him at times. "It's okay my fathers not around." He replied with a smile. He looked back out the window, the large amount of people seeming to increase with passing time. "Do you think there will ever be peace here? I see as our people want revolution, reform. But alas, father keeps it from them for fear of losing his power."

Lineka returned the smile, walking to his side and glancing out the window. The crowds protesting just made her want to pull him away from the window, and make him hide somewhere safer until the crowds at cleared. Still, she stood quietly by his side, listening to him while her thoughts ran through her mind. " I don't know..." She said softly. Lineka glanced from him to the crowd, and then sighed, turning her back to the window. She was worried about the crowd... but more worried about the door. "Akiriu..." She started slowly, taking a deep breath. "There are.... whispers... through the crowds... through the people... that they are not the only ones who wish for change..." She frowned softly and stared at him with steady eyes. "You are not careful with your words my prince."

"I don't wish to be a cause." Akiriu replied. He glanced out the window one last time. He stood up, his robes flowing in the light breeze. "Perhaps we could give them some gold perhaps? Or maybe food? I don't wish to see them suffer." He spoke kind and gentle, a leadership ability he had since he was young.

Leneka smiled quietly at his wishes to help the people that were out there. She sighed and rubbed her forehead. He still didn't get it. "Birds don't want to be symbols of flight either." She said softly. "The people call for revolution. for rebellion. They are leaderless, and must find someone who can lead them, someone who understands government and politics... But, oh, what do they find? someone with ideals that match what they seek... someone already trained to rule... someone already in the position to take over..." She said, her voice dropping off. She watched him without another word, wondering if he'd put the pieces together himself... hopefully the rumors only hit her ears. if they reached further... no, she'd best not think of that.

"I guess I could try. But father...he would be very upset." Akiriu replied. He walked over to a small table. Picking up a glass, he poured himself some cider. "What would you do Lineka?"

"... I would be wary." Leneka answered slowly. "Your father is... not the same man he used to be. If he finds out the people are trying to rally behind you..." She murmured, and then bowed. "I apologize, I shouldn't speak like that." the King was his father after all. Still, she could be wary for him, and she already was. She watched everyone who passed by him with suspicious eyes, ready to defend him from danger without a moment's notice. It was her job to protect him, after all. She took it seriously.

"Used to be? He was a corrupt king even before my birth!" He paused, regaining his composure. "My mother died because of him: suicide." It was something he never shared. Only he and his father knew the truth. His father using her death to inflict punishment on the people. "I know he's my father and I shouldn't hate him. But to lose someone like that St such a young age..." He couldn't help himself now. Tears welled in his eyes and he cried softly, putting the glass down.

Leneka was immediately alarmed. She did not mean to make Akiriu cry. She rushed to his side, hugging him quietly. She was clearly unused to such interactions, but she figured that you couldn't really be horrible at hugging. "I apologize, please don't cry." She murmured. She didn't know quite what to do, aside from keep her ear closer to the ground.

He continued to sob into her vest. "I'm sorry. I shouldn't let it bother me. But it just hurts sometimes." He hugged her back. "Thanks Lineka. You're a good friend. You're always here and you could have just as easily said no."

"I could never say no." Lineka murmured. "I'll be here as long as you need me." She promised softly, pulling a handkerchief from her pocket and wiping the tears from Akiriu's face. She tilted her head, feeling confused and awkward. It embarrassed Lineka at times that she knew better how to fight off a horde than how to interact with people, and at times like this, she was plagued by the general discomforting atmosphere generated by a lack of such skills.

Akiriu pulled closer, sensing the awkwardness. "Don't worry, since he's not here at the moment we can drop the formalities." He told her. "Lineka, you can call me Akiriu if you like. Were just two friends here. The villagers can't see us and my father is away with business."

Lineka smiled softly and nodded, trying to relax. "Alright, Akiriu." She said quietly. "I'll try to be a little less, uptight." She said quietly. Lineka suddenly noted their proximity and stepped back, going to pull down sheer curtains, removing the scene of the crowd from their minds. "At the very least, we can know that the people won't enter the castle or riot while your father isn't here." She said quietly.

Akiriu chuckled. "Yeah, you're right." He sat down on his bed. It was made by hi hand, looking as if a maid had done it. "It's the only comfort I receive as his son. If only there was another comfort..." he pondered, wondering what to do.

Lineka smiled softly, perching next to him and putting a hand on his shoulder. "Take comfort in that you're a credit to your country. The people that wait in their homes wait for you to take the throne." She said quietly. "Other than that, the most I can come up with is that you can fill your room with pillows. While not practical I'm betting it would be comfortable." She joked.

"I shall try that." Akiriu responded. He turned around and kissed her on the cheek. "And thank you Lineka for the company." He did it as a token of gratitude and to tease. But something else ran under his motives, that he couldn't figure out.

Lineka froze, unable to stop the blush that tinted her cheeks. She quickly looked away, hiding the red coloring as she stared at the wall. She hadn't the slightest idea why he responded to her joke by kissing her cheek. "Y-you're welcome Akiriu. I'll always be here when you need me." She murmured, trying to steady her voice.

Akiriu laughed. He wondered how far he could go. "Do you have any plans? I could have dinner brought here if you like? Take a break since it's okay for now with father gone." He asked. "Consider it a minor request."

Lineka opened her mouth to protest, but sighed when she glanced at this face. "I was going to train and then review our fortifications... but I guess I can take a small break." She murmured. "I suppose it's fine as long as I can protect you if something unpleasant happens." She said, more to herself than a general comment. She glanced at him, then away again, actively keeping herself from raising her hand to her cheek.

Akiriu called up a chef, asking for roasted chicken. While they left to prepare, Akiriu walked to pour two glasses of sparkling cider. In her glass he added a tasteless, odorless, relaxant. It would keep her calm and mellow. But not with the loopy effect. It was discrete so she wouldn't notice. "For you. Since we have some spare time, Lineka."

Lineka shyly shifted, keeping an eye on Akiriu without outright staring at him. She hadn't the slightest idea why she was so, uncomfortable, about the whole situation. It was just her, and her friend, having a meal. Besides, she was his near constant companion and had been for years... it was probably just the innocent closeness that had occured that afternoon, and she was just confused about the whole relaxing thing. And, emotions in general.

((Good Night))

"You don't have to be so tense. It's just us here Lineka." Akiriu said handing her the glass. He sat down. "This actually tastes pretty well. Go ahead, take a sip." He said softly, trying to calm her down.

(Okay)

Lineka smiled, accepting the class with a slight nod. She gently sipped at the glass, tilting her head at it in curiosity. "You're right, it's not bad." She said, leaning back and taking a deep breath. She had to admit it was nice to just sit and not worry over this, that, and everything else that she usually spent her day dwelling upon.

"One of these days I can show you where the cider comes from. But for now this is good enough." Akiriu said. As he took a sip of his cider, he pondered on what she would do.It would relax her, but unfortunately it intensified desires on the mind. He used it whenever he was around his father, repressing his urge to harm him.
