The Enemy of the true Enemy (Fancy_BratXDingo)

Melanie was also confused with the sudden increase and decrease in demons. While she had finished off most of the ones that came to her, the new demons seemed to ignore her completely. She turned as she heard Nohman collide with the trashcans, spotting the giant hand in time to move out of the way from its attack. "A colossal?" she muttered. Those were definitely not demons she liked to come across, but with Nohman she figured she had a good enough chance. She did notice that his guns had disappeared and a tail had formed. Was he perhaps going to change forms? She ran into demons before who would do the same, but she was curious as to what he would do.

The whip weapon had curled up up around Nohman's arm and it seamed to fuze itself into his skin. Even the tail had some platting on it that looked to be originally part of the blade. "Well, time for a good old tussle," Nohman chuckled as the blade on his arm extended out a meter and on his other arm a small shield no wider then a basketball appaeared. However, all the armor was glowing a light red and Nohman's horns seemed to be growing longer and into a curve in the back, mimicing a halo. In a blink of an eye, he was on the clossal and had done a clean cut into its arm, causing it to almost fall off and bleed a river.

Melanie watched in absolute amazement as Nohman started to change before her eyes. He seemed to fuse with his weapon, enhancing his strength and appearance so that he was even more terrifying. She did not make the mistake of trying to get in on the action here, as he easily cut off the arm of the colossal. He certainly wasn't the kind of demon you wanted to run into on a bad day. To think, he had enough power to single-handedly take out this colossal and he had spared her. She really couldn't deny the fact that he was on her side now, but it would be a challenge trying to portray that to her superiors. Somehow, she had the feeling things would work out.

Nohman stepped on the ground and found himself in the aim of the clossals other arm. His tail came up and split the arm in two pieces, bleeding and still connected to the shoulder. "Not even a suicide move works," he stated as he jumped up above the Clossal. He pointed the shield downwards that the head of the things charged down at it, the blade on his arm and tail ready to strike. When he made contact, the shield oblitereated to head while the blades made quick work of the torso. He he landed back down on the ground, all that remained was a pair of legs that were slowly disolving into nothingness. The blood around him dried into the structures but the body parts just vanished. The shield, blades, and horns went back to normalcy as the blade became stowed away. Nohman picked up his hat and placed it on, looking over at the hunter. "Huh, thought it would have been harder. Guess thats why you need more then two demon types to make it work."

Melanie still wasn't exactly what to say after all she had just witnessed. All she could think was that she was lucky not to have run into him in that form. She let out a little chuckle, giving her blade a little flick to remove most of the blood that remained. After reloading her gun she put it at her waist again. "I can see now why some of my superiors are keeping their eyes on you. You'd be a real pain in the ass if you did come after our organization. At least we managed to get rid of the ones here." These didn't seem to be the demons from the mountains that he mentioned. Even for demons the trip to this area would take a while. "I better be reporting back. Maybe now I can see about that bounty after all. It'll be more believable now."

"This wasn't something big," Nohman stated as he scratched the back of his head. "This group, by the end of the week they could replace them with a stronger group and send them again. However, I don't think its a wise idea to split. You saw me kill this and if the demons figured out you saw me, they would hit you harder then a jersy devil, just so you can tell them where you last saw me; althought they may torture a bit before hand but I can't say for sure." Nohman walked over to hunter and said, "besides, if that is just the first wave, best I stick with you until your safe or else wave two, if it gets to us, may be the last wave you see."

She couldn't deny that this would only encourage the demon lords to send stronger demons their way. It was a little annoying, but now she had gotten herself involved and she was stuck in it. Sure, she felt good about having Nohman to watch her back, though this would cause problems with other hunters. If she didn't report back by a certain time they would send hunters to look for her. After finally being able to solve one matter, another arose. She let out a little sigh as she rubbed the back of her head. "I guess it can't be helped. I'll have a lot of explaining to do after this is done. So about how much time you think it'll be till the next wave? I'm not exactly fond of standing around and twiddling my fingers."

"A while. Fifteen to thrity minutes to realize no one is coming back, five to scout the area, and between fifteen to twenty five minutes before they gather and attack. So, maybe an hour or more so i would agree with you and we need to get moving, bye more time the longer we move." Nohman stated as he reloaded the handguns he had and stored them again. "Besides, your superiors would probably like it better if we get this second wave off our back before you went back. Might lead it to them and they are smart enough to stratigize, you saw the wall shadows and the lights."

"An hour huh? Then we better get moving already. I'd like to get rid of as many of those guys as I can. Hopefully it would convince them to give me a promotion already." she muttered. Of course, the higher a position you had, the more money you were paid for jobs. "Well, if you're all set to go I'm ready. Of course, you probably know the mountain area better than I do, so I'm counting on you to show me around." She didn't get the chance to get jobs up there often, so her memory of the area was a little shaky.

Nohman chuckled at this. "Leaving the city area in a way is good and bad," he stated as he started to walk towards the forests and mountains. "Sure demons are up there but it would buy us more time because city and country demons arn't exactly nice to one another. So, as long as we keep out of their hair, chances of them bothering us is almost zip." He still had his gun at the ready in his sleeve though because of the keyword almost. He knew of a small mountain community up there and it would be easy enough for them to hide there but the trouble was hunters looking for this one when they came looking for her.

"Well, hopefully they won't think anything wrong with me being around you. They aren't going to be thinking nice about someone like me around you. That is...unless you deceive them." She figured that there was a good chance of them running into demons along the way, and she was clearly out of place being around him. "In any case, we need to get this over with as soon as we can." I definitely don't want to be sticking around longer than we need to. It's going to cause some problems for us both, and that's not something I want to deal with right now." If the situation arose where she was seen by another hunter with him, she wasn't sure how to go about with it. She'd likely fight him anyway, only to feign injury and get out of there.

"You shouldn't worry to much," Nohman stated. "The way I see things is numbers, percentages, statistics, and right now, its in our favor of not having trouble. But there is the troubling unknown. As for the mountain, I best advise, the reason why i was going up there was because children have been disappearing out of their own beds and it is assumed demons because, well, the large number of missing children. Its also safe to bet that its because of demons because some of the children have been found dead, and well, being a hunter you should know what finidn a dead child looks like after a demon has had at it," Nohman stated as he noticed it was a full moon tonight. "Looks like a chance of rain when we get closer to the community. So, should we do small talk or would you prefer to be left to your thoughts while we go up the mountain?"

"Well...I guess I'm not really in any position to go against your word. You know this area more than I do anyway." She listened to him as he talked about his reasons for coming here. She wasn't necessarily surprised about demons appearing, more so that the targets were children. She had run into that kind of situation many times, and it took her a while to get used to the sight. That was just one of the trials in being a hunter. "Right. I'd rather not run into that sort of sight again, but it looks like it's unavoidable." She chuckled softly to herself. "Well, I think we're already stirring up some conversation so why not keep at it? I'll need something to distract me until we get there." It was a little odd that she had originally tried to kill him and now she was working with him.

"Guiet so, thing is," Nohman stated as he looked over his shoulder, no signs of scouts. "I don't know much about small talk abnd what hunters talk about. I figured kills they enjoyed, humans they wooed, all sorts of stuff. But with us being diffrent, not sure what the common small talk would be." Nohman started to get a chill up his back and knew he was in some trouble now.

Melanie tilted her head to the side slightly as she listened to him. She hadn't necessarily thought of that. "Well, I figure since we're both hunting demons, that's a start. I'm sure we've both had our fair share of notable bounties. I'll have you know that even if the men back at HQ are the best hunters around, they're still the biggest sleaze balls you'll ever meet. The nerve of them trying to come at me like that." She turned back to him, a little grin on her face. "I can't say that I can picture you wooing any humans though. What? Surely you have some demoness tail you could be chasing?"

Nohman chuckled and stated. "The underworld is not like the fairy tales adult men read," he replied as he looked over at Melaine while still guiding the way. "None of them ripping clothes off and begging to be plowed like fields of vegitation." He chuckled a bit and continued, "I had my fair share of chasing but in the end, when you get to high of a rank, demons become scared of you. Sumbiting to a higher ranked demon in the underworld is like saying you give up your soul to them. So, alot of it is one nights and strange nights but nothing crazed like the books. Just a little abnormal is all." He looked over at Melaine and said, "besides, they had the biggest addiction to low ranks because low ranks don't have to worry about alot of things and there was a lot of them in supply thanks to mating numbers in the hundreds per birth at times."

Melanie listened to his little explanation with a somewhat surprised expression. "Well, I wouldn't think of it as a fairy tale. I always thought things would be different for demons." She wasn't surprised to hear about high ranking demons striking fear though. "Interesting, in most cases, a higher rank is more appealing and attractive for us. I would think that they'd be looking for a strong demon, even if it did mean selling your soul." Melanie couldn't help but chuckle a little at his last few words. "That might explain the large number of low rank demons recently. Not like it matters though. It's always good for a little extra money."

"Yes, but if too many low ranks learn fast, well, they become a real problem, right," Nohman stated as he thought he saw something but came to find out it was just an Owl. "Strong demon equals domminence and alot of demons don't want to submit, which is why not many demons go for higher rank demons. Down there, three simpel things exsist. The dominate, the submissive, and those that are dominated. Lucky for me, I got high rank fast enough with me being stuck in the middle of submissive and dominate." He looked over his shoulder for a second and then asked, "speaking of relationships. Are you dating anyone now? I figure its tough being a hunter and all. Could die the next day, family in danger at all times. You know what I mean." Nohman felt like they were getting closer to the community and he was lucky that they wouldn't shoot him on the spot. He didn't know why but he figured it was because of lack of funds that the community couldn't get a hunter to come up and take care of the demons. The amount he was doing it for almost classified the job as a charity probono job but he felt for the families that were losing children.

"Hmm...you may be right about that. Even if they're easy to take out, they're still a pain in the ass. Melanie also noticed the owl flying over. She didn't see those very often. "Hmm...stuck between the dominant and submissive?" No matter how she tried to picture it, she figured he would always be more dominant considering his strength and whatnot. She turned to look at him a little odd, curious as to why he'd suddenly bring up a question about her dating experiences. "I've only been in a few relationships like that, but they never last really long. Usually I won't turn a guy down, but they were always pretty unreliable in and out of missions. I haven't had to deal with any deaths or family problems, but I do hear of those instances with other couples. But for the record, I've been single for a few years now. Course there are still those older guys trying to make a move, but they're worst than who I've already been with." She wasn't planning on asking why he asked though.

"I see," He stated as he noticed the clouds come in. "Bugger, might start raining before we see the place," Nohman stated as he rotated his shoulder baldes to losen up his shoulders. "The reason why I asked is because in the demon society, its either lust or bigiotmy, marrying others for reasons that aren't religion. Anyone dates someone you don't want them dating, you kill the competition and take the person for yourself. It happens alot on both ends of the gender spectrum but I did notice it seams like more females, not alot, were killing competition." Nohman looked over at Melanie. "Stuck, as in I don't like to force people to do things and I don't submit to others real easily. A strange thing amoung demons but I have heard of it amoung humans at times."

Melanie could also see the storm clouds rolling in, and she could have sworn she felt a couple drops already. "Great, and I'm not really dressed for this weather." she muttered. Picking up her pace a little, she continued to listen to Nohman's little speech. Somehow she wasn't surprised about hearing that they would kill each other off in order to get with someone. She instantly thought of how some animals in the wild were like that too, but she wasn't going to toss that comment around right now. "I...see. Well that does make sense. I'm sure a good deal of humans are like that. Of course, I wouldn't be surprised if there was attempted killing off of competition between humans too ya know? I doubt it would happen often though."

"Then don't ask me about my knowledge of ancient civilizations, you would be surprised. And it happens at times in the animal kingdom. A more noble group would be lions that it happens with. But the rare thing that use to happen in ancient times was human killing demons for the human partners. Its a common myth that was what caused this war between humans and demons. I don't know if its true, long before my time, but it is the only explination that I can find that explains our war on the demonic side." He sighed a bit as he felt a few drops just as he could see the edge of the town. "Well, I believe they have a motel and a restruant so want to establish a place to rest or grab some food first?"

She listened carefully to the myth, finding that it could very well be reason enough for this war to suddenly come up between humans and demons. She could have sworn that she heard something like that before, but she wasn't sure where she would have heard it. She could feel a few more drops coming down, but at least the town was up ahead. "Hmm...a bed or a meal...?" Either one sounded really good right now. "I guess we should get a room first. It shouldn't take too long and we can just get something to eat after."

"Alright," Nohman stated as he did a final look behind him when they walked into the town. "I've got a bad feeling," He stated. He didn't even sence scouts at this point let alone any demons in the forest. He just shook his head, cleared the thought, and walked with the hunter to the motel that was right next to the restruant. He opened the door and said, "I need a room for two people."

The motel did seem a little shabby, but it would be enough. Of course, it wouldn't compare to the living quarters back at HQ. It would have to do though. Once they got the key for their room, they headed down into the hallways, soon finding their room number. "Room for two...I'd hope I can get my own bed then."
