Ceres, a large modern city on the coast. Anything you are looking for, it has. However, in a darker part of the city roams demons of all kinds that strike terror in the people. Sure, demons are every where but if a hot spot of where they were had to be namned, Ceres was it. In a run down motel that seen better times in the 1920's, a demon was in his room, trying to get some sleep after finishing a job he had. However, he knew he wouldn't be able to sleep. On the other side of the door, slipping in under it, a shadow demon crept in to kill this demon it knew as The Traitor. When it had fully formed, it raised a bladed arm up and came down at the demon. When the arm came down, a piece of paper took the place of the body as the demon, standing in dark clothing that wasn't flashy, pointed a loaded handgun at the shadow demon's head. He fired rounds after rounds at the demon and sent it crashing through the window. "Pathetic," he stated as he grabbed up his scythe and jumped out after the shadow demon. He landed with the the scythe at the ready as the shadow demon recomposed itself into a whole form. "Would have guessed you would pull that kind of parlor trick on me," the shadow demon stated as it swung its bladed arms up. "Now, come at me you pathetic excuss for a..." Before the demon could finish, the Demon dressed in black had sliced the shadow demon in two but this time, it didn't reform, it died away and disappeared into the night air.

"Should be around here..."

A lone individual made her way through the 'dark side' of Ceres, and it was a fitting name considering how many demons had decided to show up and cause trouble. At least it kept Melanie in the demon hunting business. At 20 years old, she was one of the younger hunters, but she was definitely tough enough to keep up with her veteran comrades. She had long black hair and beautiful green eyes. As expected of one in her line of work, she had a very impressive figure, athletic and toned. Her outfit consisted of a white tanktop with baggy blue jeans and a black leather vest. At her hip was a scabbard holding her treasured katana, and on the other side was her handgun. A shot rang out in the area, and she was quick to move to the source. It seemed that her target had decided to make himself known already. She came across an sad-looking motel, looking around the area. It was reported that a shadow demon had showed up and had been terrorizing people here. Her eyes shifted to a dimly lit area, noticing what may have been her target. Getting the gun at her hip ready, she started to approach him. "Are you the shadow demon I've been hearing about? Actually, I guess it doesn't matter how you answer. You're right where the client said you'd be, and you sure don't look like the innocent type."

The demon in black looked over his shoulder to see the hunter and chuckled. "Put the gun down madam, the demon is deader then St. Joesph in his tomb." He placed the scythe away and slowly walked up to the woman. He should have realized, being a demon himself, he looked threatening to anyone that saw him. "The name's Nohman, no last name." He did a quick look at the woman and found himself ammussed that the hunters were getting younger and younger now compared to when he was first on the job and most of the demons were stronger then before. But, he admited the younger ones looked cuter to him, stepping into a bigger court that was deffinitly out of their own league.

Melanie didn't drop her gun just yet, even as he approached her and put away his weapon. She was going to be prepared in case he was so low as to attack her while she was unprepared. Even if he was trying to play nice, he still looked like any of the other demons who would go out and wreak havoc. She wasn't going to let him go so easily. "You think I would believe anything some demon says. You being here is far too much of a coincidence for me to just let you go." Again she pointed the gun at him. "Your name mean nothing to me, and it won't matter after I'm through with you. So draw your weapon." Melanie had always been the type to jump to conclusions, though a part of that came from her being a demon hunter in the first place. She had been taught not to let any demons roam free. Even if he wasn't her target, it was her duty to get rid of him.

"If you insist on a fight, then I wont need a weapon to take care of you," Nohman stated as he walked by the girl, chuckling a bit. He then walked on, his back to her. "Besides, why would I want to fight a girl that can't even hold a gun properly, let alone have crapy aim. Free advice, loosen your stance some. Ciao," Nohman stated as he thought about going to the front desk to get his money back. However, a part of him did keep an eye on the girl incase she tried anything. Demon or not, she still had a weapon.

"Tch." He sure knew how to piss someone off like a demon. But she expected him to say something along those lines. Most of the demons she had come across were very critical of her age and technique, but she always managed to get the job done. "You'll do well not to underestimate me. Now turn and face me!" She fired off a couple shots at him, not really concerned if they hit him or not. She pulled her katana from its sheath, quickly closing the distance between them as she made a quick swing at his torso. He would be able to see that her swordsmanship was much better than her marksmanship, but being younger she was quite hot-headed and eager for a fight.

WHen the shots flew, Nohman turned around to face the girl, wasn't willing to hurt her until she charged at him with the blade. "Pathetic," He stated under his breath as he rose a hand up, palm pointed at the girl, and said a small chant. A second later, a small surge of wind came out of an arcane light and blew at the girl, throwing her away from him. "When a hunter attacks, they are to mkae the first shot the kill shot," Nohman stated, quoting the hand book he knew she had to of read when she became a hunter. "Or else the demon will counter and most surly kill you with their first stirke." Defrence between him and the handbook was he didn't kill her, just was teaching her a lesson about the enemy.

Just before she was able to swing her blade at him, she felt her body had hit an invisible barrier of some sort. She soon found out though that it was arcane magic. She did her best to resist, but she was sent flying back from the attack. She turned her body in the air, landing back on her feet. She had gotten a lot of smack talk from demons before, but none of them had ever taken the time to lecture her. She had to wonder why he hadn't gone off and killed her liked the handbook had said. This guy sure was looking to mess with her. "I'd rather not hear that coming from you. Why didn't you kill me then?" Not waiting for an answer, she made her way to him again. She was wary of the arcane magic now, and she had an idea of countering it. Normally she'd rely on her gun for long-range combat, but she had learned a few techniques. She gripped the blade tightly in her hands, swinging it a few times in front of her. While she may have looked a little ridiculous, she was actually attacking. Similar to his wind magic, strong waves emitted from her blade and were headed straight for him. On contact they would feel just like a sword cutting into the skin. Moving behind the attack, she came in close again. She got her gun ready in case he tried that wind magic again.

Nohman chuckled and snapped his fingers. The wind came back and blocked but instead of a full block, it redirected that attack down into the earth, and making large spikes in its path, was rushing towards the girl. "Seriosuly, ever learned wind and wind work together," He stated as he drew out his gun and fired three rounds at her gun. He knew this kind of attack well enough and had even learned its counter to a T; just like many other attacks. "I told you, I have no urge to kill you, since we seam to fight the same enemy," Nohman stated as his scythe came out and he grasped it. He was tempted to let the girl come in at him with her blade and see if she was better with a sword compared to a gun or magic.

There was something in the back of her head telling her that her attack would lead to this. Soon, the earth pillars had formed, rising up and now heading in her direction. She was about to fire off her gun at him, but she felt it fly out of her grip. She noticed the handgun he had, so he must have shot it. The spikes looked to surround her and smash her in between, but just before they had collided she managed to leap over and continue towards him. "No gun huh? Guess it'll just have to be the old-fashioned way." she thought to herself. The last few words lingered a bit in her mind, but she did not withdraw her attack. Her eyes examined the scythe, knowing she had to be on her toes to avoid getting caught by it. Coming in close again, she made a quick swing at his arms, looking to disarm him somehow. "You're trying to tell me you're the rumored 'Traitor'? Sounds more like an excuse for an exception. While she was still close she ducked in, then bringing a clenched fist up to collide with his chin. Even if they were human, demon hunter training did wonders to a person's strength and durability. The really skilled hunters were compared to demons themselves. Even if she was a little inexperienced, she was sure to pack quite a punch.

Nohman watched the girl dodge the earth attack and charge at him. He knew dodging either way lead to pain so he took a defensive stance. He blocked the sword attack with the blunt end of his scythe and when she came around to punch him, he dropped the gun and threw the fist the girl's chest, going to connect with her the same time she connected her punch with him. When she hit him, his bowler hat fell off and exposed to small horns on the top of his head, sticking out between all the hair he he had. The scythe on the other hand, turned around and grabbed the blade at its finger guard and with the tip, pulled the plade away and swung it into the motel, making it stick in a window frame.

As her punch connected, she also felt his fist connecting with her chest. Any normal human being would have probably been torn apart by that alone, but she took the blow very well. She hit the ground hard, and she felt her blade being tugged out of her grasp on the way down. She gritted her teeth gently as she sat up. If what he said was true, he wasn't going to attack her again. She wasn't exactly pleased with the outcome though. He'd beaten her easier than any of her superiors had. "Let me ask you again. Are you claiming to be the 'Traitor'?" There had been rumors of a demon killing off its brethren amongst the hunters, and there were numerous debates on whether he would be considered an exception among hunters or labeled as an optional bounty. The 'Traitor' had been labeled as an 'SS Demon' the highest rank awarded by far.

When Nohman went with the blow he tumbled a few times but skidded on his feet and quickly stood up, a wicked smile on his face and two large caliber handguns drawn at the ready. "I never picked that name for myself, but it is what I have been called," Nohman stated as he pointed the handguns at the girl. He could easily kill her but he would just aim for nonleathal areas. Knock her down but no way would she die from the wounds. "I am Victor Nohman, highest ranking demon of the underworld and one of few that could hold a candle up against the demon lords in power," he chuckled when he said that. "That is old history to me, but my strength has not diminished since I turned my sights on the low life that called themselves my comrades, my brethern in hell." He stood up straighter then before but with enough relaxness to aim the guns properly. "If anything, I have grown stronger. Now, funny little demon hunter, put your weapons down because if you come at me again, I will put you in your place!"

"Victor Nohman...that does sound a bit familiar now that I think about it." she thought. She had definitely heard the name Nohman tossed around headquarters, usually hand in hand with 'Traitor'. She hadn't paid much attention to rumors, though that one in particular stayed with her. There was even a meeting between all the hunters, and in the situation that this 'Traitor' showed up to one of them, they should be prepared to defend themselves in case he attacked. Anyone who wasn't a veteran hunter was discouraged from pursuing Nohman (that included Melanie), but she still had a desire to at least meet him in battle. Now she knew first-hand to stay clear from him. She didn't look all too impressed with his self-promoting speech, though she did keep her eye on those guns. "Well, since you've turned on your fellow demons, you're starting to cut into our paychecks. It's not to say that we aren't grateful for your...assistance. But money's hard to come by these days." Her eyes wandered to her katana still stuck in the window of the motel. Her gun was a few yards away, but she would be a fool to run at it. "Well, as you can see I am unarmed now. How about putting your weapons down?"

Nohman chuckled at the request and said, "a good hunter is never unarmed. I know a few human hunters that can do magic and because of that little sword trick, I doubt you are completely unarmed." He lowered his guns and they seamed to disappear into thin air. "And as for pay checks, hah," he shrugged his shoulders, "a demon has to make money to in this buisness. Its just better to advertise I know demon weakness because I am one." He picked up his hat and put it back on, covering the horns he had. "And for the shadow demon, he is dead. Tried to kill me and I retaliated. If you like, you could clame credit but remember, who really cut it down to nothing."

Melanie sighed softly at his words. Her little technique could be used without her blade, but it was more focused on close-combat. She stood up from the ground, dusting herself off before she went to retrieve her weapons. Of course, she wouldn't go firing off on him after their little skirmish. "Hard to believe a demon would need money when most of them just tear through everything in their path to get what they need." After placing the sword and gun back at her waist, she turned back to him. "I'm not going to claim some bounty if I didn't go through with it myself. Besides, they wouldn't believe me if I didn't come back covered in blood." This was going to be a pain trying to explain back at HQ. They wouldn't let her off with saying 'the target was already dead'. She was the only one assigned to the task after all. "Ah...you're making things really complicated for me now. I'm not in any rush to get back now. So then...Nohman, what exactly are you looking to achieve from your retaliation? I doubt your demon lords would sit still for much longer if this keeps up. If that happens I imagine a good deal of demons and hunters will be on the scene. Of course, most of my superiors would be after your head while trying to eliminate the demons at the same time."

"I'm not most of the demons," Nohman stated as he took a seat ontop of a trash can. "Well, what I am after is answers. Like, why are demons and humans at war with each other to begen with? As to what I hope to achieve, well, peace and solice," Nohman stated as he tilted hs head and looked at the woman. "And who says the demon lords are sitting still? Last I checked, they sent someone and you were after their hunter. Look, I am not concerned about my life much, being on ym own and such," he got onto his feet and arched his back to stretch for a second. "The question you should be asking is if you just proved the rumors are true, as you stated they were, and others know the truth, why does your leaders want me dead if I am obviously on the human's side of this war?" Nohman walked over to the woman and stuck out his hand. "I'll be around Ceres for a while but I may head off to the mountains soon, a small band of demons are making some trouble and I have been asked to take care of it. Might see you up there as well. And for making things complicated, just explain demons do kill demons from time to time."

"Answers...?" He seemed to be at a loss for why demons and humans were fighting against each other. Of course, for her that was a simple thing to answer since they were terrorizing citizens. That in turn led to the dispatch of hunters like herself. "True, they did send someone, though they have to realize that eventually these demons their sending aren't going to get the job done. Since you're out and about killing them, and we hunters are taking jobs, it's bound to be a pain in the ass for them." She brushed a bit of her hair from her face. "Hell if I know what my superiors are thinking. I just follow their orders. Luckily for both of us, I'm not a veteran hunter, so I'm told to avoid you if I do run into you. Of course, rules are meant to be broken. What they don't know won't hurt them." She watched as he stuck out his hand, as if expecting her to shake it. It was an odd sight indeed. "The mountains huh? I can't promise I'll be there if I'm not assigned to it." It made her a little curious as to who exactly was asking him to take care of these demons. She let out a little sigh as she reached out to take his hand in hers. "But I'll see what I can do. If I show enough enthusiasm they might at least stick me with a more experienced partner. I won't mention anything about you, as I know they'll flip back at HQ." She took her hand back, figuring she might as well head back. "The name's Melanie. I don't care if you bother to remember it or not, but you did give your name."

Nohman shook her hand but heard something above him. "I think I attracted company," Nohman stated as he looked up to see a battalion of demons at the ready. "Huh, I remember those guys, they like to rush people," he stated as he drew out his guns. He knew they would strike fast and soon but he was ready for them. "Like a hand with this," he asked to the woman. "I think they may come after you for being a hunter." Nohman clicked the safetys off and got ready for a fire fight. He analyzed them to mainly be airborne demons that like to attack off the ground and wall shadow demons that like to strick out of the sides of buildings with oversized weapons.

Before Melanie could head off, she turned to look above them as well. "Friends of yours?" she muttered casually. She pulled out her handgun again, examining the damage from the shots earlier. She wasn't pleased to see obvious chips and dents, but her gun would still work just fine. With her sword in the other hand, she prepared herself for their attack. "Glad to help. I need something back to HQ anyway. I might claim someone else's bounty in the process." It would be nice to redeem herself after that one-sided battle with him earlier. These guys were A Class Demons at best, and Melanie didn't usually get assigned to them unless she was with someone else. the airborne demons would be more of a problem for her, as she was pretty vulnerable in the air.

The airborne dived bombed them as the wall ones divded into the buildings. "Shoot at the airborne, I got a treat for the wall ones," Nohman hollered as he brought his guns out to face the walls. He did a quick chant and started to fire into the walls. The bullets disappeared but there was no marks on the buildings, yet they moaned in pain and seemed to vibrate. Soon, a wall demon fell out, bloody from being shot up and obviously had been ready to kill. "Shoot, they might have a second squad at the ready. See any lights below your feet, get out of them. The wall demons and get into the ground as well thanks to the cities sewage system." He broke off from Melanie but to snag an airborne as it came behind them. He had a smile on his face, showing a wicked set of teeth and an obviouse look of hunger to kill those that threatened him.

At least she could still fight them from below. Holding her gun in front of her she wasted no time in firing a single shot towards one of the demons, catching it square in the head. A couple more of them had descended towards her, but with a quick flick of the wrist she cut the wings clean off one of them, causing them to collide and tumble to the ground. She was quick to capitalize, sending her blade through them both. In hearing his warning, she looked to see a light emitting below her. She jumped out of the way in time to see those fiendish hands reach up and swipe at her. She felt one of them snatch her ankle but she cut it clean off with her blade. She fired off a few more shots into the light, hearing their pained cries before the lights started to fade.

Nohman had kicked up some energy and was now on the wall as a few of the wall demons came out. His hat was gone but that didn't stop him. He fired a round into an airborn that was coming at the hunter and then put the guns away, drawing out the scythe which seamed to mold into a type of whip bladd that held the look of the scythe. "Lets part boys and girls," he chuckled as he slashed at a demon and cut through it while the end wrapped around another's head and ripped it clean off. His other hand had pulled back the gun and fired at a few demons that were charging at him as he swipped the blade around to his an airborne in the stomach and a wall in the leg. His heart was beating hard and the scene of battle steadied his hands but he was soon enough excited to kill these demons. "They send these low ranks after me, pathetic," he thought as he shot a few more and ripped his blade out of the two demons from before.

Melanie shot down a few more airborne demons, getting some headshots, but for the others, she pursued them as they toppled to the ground, not giving them any chance to breath. She was getting a little reckless in the battle, occasionally glancing over to where Nohman was. In that moment she felt strong arms wrap around her chest, starting to squeeze the life out of her. One of the aerial demons had come up behind her, and was now looking to perhaps squeeze her in half. She gritted her teeth tightly as she pressed her elbows against his chest. Nohman had mentioned that she wasn't unarmed before, and he was correct. Using the wind technique, she focused energy behind her. A powerful burst of energy cut through the demon, blowing his torso clean off. She brushed off the limp remains, making sure her weapons were still good to use. After taking a quick breather she jumped back into the action, going after some of the shadow demons around her.

Nohman was jumping from one side to the other now, noticing the numbers increassing to a point he would call a little more then bothersome. Each jump, he would shoot and swing the blade at the demons, either killing, imobilizing, or knicking them on each pass. Then, he noticed the number decress as a giant hand from a wall came out and hit Nohman into the grabage cans. He knew what it was and why the numbers were falling down. He heard of a sucisde technique where the demons, dead or alive, could join together into one shadow creature called the clossal because of its sheer size. They just went from troublesome to a real threat to Nohman and a quick thought came to mind about the hunter with him. He was slowly getting up, the guns disappearing and his tail appearing. "Well then," he stated, "now we are talking some serious hard ball here."
