Let's Talk Avatars

A nice avatar is like a person at a bar having an interesting t-shirt. It can make for a reason to make the first move, but you know more about the person after talking to them. It ultimately says nothing about the content, it is window-dressing, ultimately.

My avatar is usually a reflection of my imagination. I love interesting creatures or Lovecraftian creatures. My last Avatar was a creature from the game Bloodborne. My favorite game. I usually pick the creature I'm most interested in to be my avatar. Currently my avatar is a creature I made with AI.

The avatar is sort of a window into what a person is like. Not having one does honestly come off almost being 'lazy' or just 'disinterested'. To me it reads almost like a person doesn't care to put the effort in to find an avatar to use. To be fair to them, I know it's not the fairest impression to get, but I just generally get that vibe when there isn't one.

As far as an avatar goes... I just don't generally let it color my opinion too much. I can't say it has NO effect, but I'd like to think it has a more minimal impact.

Avatars tells a story just as someone's search history or phone gallery might, its not just a first impression but a tone setter in conversation. Its like an always present emoticon at the end of your sentence that, in the current case of my avatar being a glorp cat comedically eating from a bag of unidentified chips, eases up the harshness of your words with a reminder that 'it ain't that serious.' Tone cannot easily be communicated through text so some personality is lost without an image, therefor I like to have a picture that can fill in that gap. Its just painting a picture for others, a quick way of telling you what kind of vibes you are in for when you message. Without words you can just kind of 'clock' the vibe/archetype of the person you are about to talk to if you know the 'language' of pictures

And for that reason I have chosen my current identity to be a glorp cat because on a spiritual level I be munching fr
