Ghosts haunt for a reason (FinnxRuss)

Markus felt the sting of her words. She was even like Catherine when she was angry. He looked at her, just watching her go to her bed and cry herself asleep. He didn't leave the room, didn't go close to her as he just watched her. He was in shock himself about the fact that she had told him off, but he knew that she was right. He was keeping her against her own will, even in his own time it was illegal but he didn't care, he needed her help even if he had to force his will in on her.

He waited until she was deeply asleep before he laid down on the bed, slipping under the covers next to her and pulling her in against him with her back against his front as he kissed her head softly. "I'm sorry I forced this upon you." He begun, knowing she would hear him in her dreams as he continued. "I promise you, when this is over you can return to your life, live it fully but just remember, when we're done, a part of me will be inside you and you will be able to contact me whenever you need me." He finished, lying there with her in his arms as he didn't know how she'd reach when she woke up.

It was close to noon when she finally woke up, and the sunlight was shining directly across her bed. She had heard his words while she slept, and though she had calmed down some, she was still upset at him for holding her prisoner. She felt a little chilly, and looking over at him told her exactly why. She got up from the bed, moving toward the window again. "If I promise not to try and run away from here, will you allow me to go outside? I would like to try and make the grounds look better than they do now"

She was starting to accept that he wasn't going to let him go, and making that simple request was her way of letting him know that. It was up to him now if she would be allowed to step outside the house. She still didn't know a lot about this Catherine person, other than what he'd told her, but there might be some clues somewhere on the property about the kind of person she had been.

Feeling her stir when she woke up, Markus let go of her. Letting her out as she wanted to before he got up himself. "You can work as much as you want, but you'll only delay the time you leave." He told her, nodding as he responded to her. "You may use the outside area, but if you leave the property, you'll fall into a deep sleep." He told her, muttering a few words before he put the spell on her. The locks suddenly clicked in the entire house, unlocking it all.

"I don't have any tools of this time, the automobile you used to get here was foreign to me." He told her, opening the door to her room. "But I still hope you'll be able to help me with going further." He added, leaving her room to go up the attic so he could think.

She nodded, grateful that he would let her outside. Putting her shoes on, she headed downstairs and out of the house. Glancing toward the road, she could see that her parent's car was gone. It must have either been towed, or they had gotten it started earlier that morning. Looking around the yard, she wondered where she should start first. Noticing what used to be a flower garden along one side of the yard, near the gate, she headed toward it, though she wasn't sure just how far the property line went.

Since he'd said he had no modern tools, she only had her hands to work with. She wasn't fond of getting her hands dirty, so she decided instead to walk around the property, inside the gate of course, keeping his words about what would happen if she stepped beyond the property. She still wanted to leave, but knew it would only be on Markus' terms.

Finding an old outbuilding in one corner behind the house, she walked toward it, curious as to what was inside. Probably old-fashioned gardening tools. As she got closer, she noticed it was chained shut. Sighing, she turned to go back inside, having been outside for close to an hour now, and she was starting to get hungry again.

Markus had watched her from the top of the building, all the way up in the attic. The outbuilding was chained because it contained a few bodies in it, they had rotten away to only being skeletons by now but it was still a grave. He went downstairs when he sensed her entering the house again.

He was down in the entrance of the house by the time she was in as he held his hand up in a slight wave. "I hope everything is satisfactory." He told her, hoping she would've found it nice as he could sense her hunger easily. He didn't seem to bother with it as he knew that she would have to ask him anyhow about food so she could survive.

She shut the door behind her, glancing to where Markus was standing. "The yard could use a bit of work. Who took care of the grounds when you were alive?" She considered asking about the building behind the house, but decided against it, figuring it had to be locked up for a reason. Instead, she went toward the kitchen, trying to figure out how to get some food in the house without leaving the grounds. She couldn't always rely on his making food appear for her, and she didn't want to starve to death either.

"I took care of everything when I was still alive." Markus told her, knowing she would be curious about the shed. He wasn't going to tell her what was inside because he knew that it would freak her out. Instead he followed her into the kitchen, watching her walk around. "If you want food, all you have to do is tell me what you want." He told her, his tone seeming more caring about her now than it had done before as he knew that he would have to be as polite as possible to let her know that his intentions were harmless towards her.

Taking a seat at the table, Rachel looked up at Markus. "I appreciate that you want to take care of me, Markus, but I want to know that when I enter this room, I will be able to get my own food, without your help. I'm not asking that you let me go get food, but there has to be a way to have food brought to the house."

She didn't think she was asking too much, considering all that she'd been forced to give up when Markus had decided to trap her in his house. "About Catherine.. Is there any particular part of the house that she liked to spend her time in? If I am to help you, I will need to know as much about her as you can tell me."

"Impossible." Markus replied about her inquiry on getting food herself. "Everyone in the nearby villages know that this place has been empty for decades, no one wanted to go there either as it was said the house was haunted. "The only food you can get out here is through me, so it's your own decision when you want to eat. I don't sleep and I don't eat so I'm available at any time of the day." He told her, putting it simply to her, though not mentioning the fact that no one would come to the house.

He then heard her ask him about Catherine and he had to let a shudder appear, even if he was tall and quite relaxed, the memories of the girl he had loved was able to shake him. "She enjoyed spending time in the attic, she used to watch the stars at night and during the day she would look out over the fields and paint." He told her, he had always allowed Catherine to do what she wanted but her stuff had been hidden away in the basement after she had died, the attic soon serving as his tomb and now the place that he wanted to finish all this in.

"So I really am your prisoner... Give me one good reason why I should help you then. I've nothing to make me want to remain living in this house." She knew she'd probably never leave this place alive, so that left just one option available to her. She'd just have to let herself die. She glanced over at him again, rising from her seat at the table.

She didn't say another word to him as she walked out of the kitchen. She knew he would probably lock the doors again after her little outburst, so she went up to her bedroom, even though she was aware that there wasn't a place in the house he couldn't go.

Markus sighed at her words. He knew that she was right and he was keeping her prisoner there with him. But he just couldn't help it, he had to escape this fate somehow and he couldn't wait another two hundred years for a new girl to show up. He got up after her, heading after her silently.

Leaving the kitchen a moment after her, he didn't lock the doors as he still had his spell on her. He was going to give her the ultimatum. Heading upstairs, he ignored the fact that the door was closed and walked through it, finding her there. "The reason is that if you don't help me, you'll spend eternity here as my so-called prisoner. I've already stopped you from aging but if you kill yourself through starvation, you will be a ghost like me. Though I will be superior to you and you won't be able to leave because you will be bound to this house. If you help me, I'll let you leave because I won't have any control over you when I pass over to the other side. However you will be able to recall me if you need me greatly." He explained to her, hoping she wouldn't react too harshly.

She was sitting on the bed when he came into the room, staring out the window. "You want me to help you, then at least let me take care of the things I need on my own. I already promised you that I wouldn't run away. What is there for me to run to? My parents think I'm dead, thanks to you, so I can't go back home."

Looking over at him, she decided on a new tactic, hoping that it wouldn't backfire on her. "Would you have treated Catherine in this manner? Hold her against her will to satisfy your desires? You say I look just like her. Treat me as you would have treated her then."

Once again, her words stung in his heart. He knew that she was right, but he also knew that he couldn't trust her yet. "I never treated Catherine in a bad way." He told her, his tone growing deeper and darker. "But when she was alive, we did everything together, we went to town to buy fresh meat because we couldn't hold animals here besides chicken." He told her, clenching his fists as he felt a bit angry. He didn't know what else to say but he knew that he had to put her in her place. "There's 30 miles to the nearest town from here, no place to go but stay." He told her. "And why should I trust you when you act so much different from Catherine?" He asked her back, his tone hard.

He moved to the chair, sitting down while hugging himself as he looked out of the window too. He knew that he would've strikken deeply into her with his words because she wasn't Catherine when she acted like that, and it was what he wanted, to be with his woman one last time before disappearing.

"Markus, please.. I already said I would help you. I have never once gone back on my word. I'd tell you to ask those who know me best, but that is impossible, as they are hundreds of miles away from this place." She looked down as she thought of her family, feeling tears once again fill her eyes. "Please... I need to know that you trust me enough to let me off the property. I already promised not to run away, not that I have any home to return to."

Markus heard her words, knowing Catherine would've said the same in this situation. He stood up, moving over next to her on the bed before putting his arm around her shoulders, pulling her in against him. "Where would you go? There's nothing living for 15 miles away from here." He told her, knowing that she was both mad and upset, but he also knew that he would want her to be happy. "There are only two ways for you to eat, one is me making the food for you, the other is that we have to be together in bed." He told her, knowing that she would have to pick either eventually because he wasn't able to keep up making the food with her and maintaining the curse and spells he had on her and the house.

Rachel couldn't help but lean against him, still very upset at the situation she had been forced into. She knew that he was right about there not being anyone else around for miles, as she had been driving through the area less than a day before. That didn't mean that she couldn't find food out in the woods surrounding the property.

She pulled away from him at the mention of sharing a bed with him. "No... I'll never sleep with you... I mean you are a ghost, and how would that even be possible? I would still need to eat to get the nutrients my body needs."

"I didn't mean to offend you." Markus told her, watching her pull away before he pulled her back in close to him. "And as goes for nutrients, I can channel my energy into you, replenishing your body easily however it can't go on for too long. You also need to eat and I know that, which is why what I can produce with my own energy usually contains all the nutrients you need." He explained to her as he knew that she would probably find it very hard to believe even though he was slowly falling in love with her, kinda pathethic for a ghost to love a human girl but it was how it was .

Rachel let him pull her close again, though her body remained stiff. It was a little hard for her to believe that she could get the nutrients she need to stay alive from a ghost. But she didn't think it was a good idea to argue with him, since he held her life in his hands, figuratively of course. She was silent for a few moments, thinking over her options. It was either use what he created for her, or let him do whatever he wanted to her. Finally, she glanced over at him, having made her choice. "I know I can't go out and get food myself.. but you can make it appear somehow.. Can you fill the kitchen cupboards with food for me to use?"

Markus let out a sigh and a smile at her request, feeling like it was a bit childish even though he knew that she was serious. He turned his head, smiling down to her as he caught her eyes. "I can make the food appear, but I can't maintain it, it has to be eaten within a few hours." He told her, hoping she would understand that it took more than just a bit of energy. "Also, I told you before that I would be available all the time for you, just let me know when you're hungry." He kept his eyes locked with her's, knowing he had less than an hour left before his energy would run out and his transformation would disappear, rendering him back in the ghostly shape again.

She gave a soft sigh at his answer. She'd hoped that he'd be able to do that, though it had been a longshot. Laying back on the bed, she fiddled with one of the pillows. "Can... Can you make stuff for a sandwich? I am kinda hungry now, actually..." She had tried to ignore it, but her stomach wouldn't let her.

Markus watched her, his arm that had been around her ended up with his hand on her stomach as he heard her question. "Okay, I'll go prepare the stuff in the kitchen." He told her with a soft smile, rubbing her stomach gently as he got up and left the room, not being bothered by the closed door.

He went down into the kitchen, feeling his own energy running low as he blinked a few times while he went into the food chamber and brought back out the stuff she wanted for her sandwich. After that, he sat down in the chair, closing his eyes and slowly giving up on his materialized shape as he knew that he had to keep enough energy for her to get food.

She smiled at him, getting up a moment after he had and heading downstairs. She entered the kitchen, noticing the food on the table, but no sign of Markus. Thinking he'd just gone up to the attic to give her some time to herself, she sat down and started to fix herself a sandwich. She ate it slowly, glancing around the kitchen. It could use some modern appliances, but there was just the question of getting some as the nearest town was miles away.

Markus watched her, knowing she was unable to see him unless he shared some of his death with her. He wasn't going to do that because it meant that she would be able to see other ghosts as well. Instead he went through her once, just to let her know that he was around even if she thought he might be elsewhere in the house.

She got chills a couple times while she was eating her sandwich, sighing. "Ok Markus. I get it. You are still here. You can stop walking through me now" Finishing her sandwish, she took a look around. "Is there anything around here to drink? Maybe a river or stream nearby I can get water from?"

Markus grinned to himself as she was chilled. He then floated back into the storage room, focusing his energy and a moment later he had both water and milk depending on what she wanted. But he had to let her inside the room to get it so he tried signalising it to her by opening the door, unfortunately making the screeching sound too as he was hoping she wouldn't be frightened of the room.
