Laird of the Land (buttefly0408/kolath)

"He never called it perfect," she spoke back, a bit of anger that had been built up inside coming out in it. "Nothing was ever perfect except for Shawe." There was more on the tip of her tongue to say about other things his father thought were flawed but she was able to close her lips once more before they came spilling out. Still, they rested right on the tip of her tongue, wanting to be brought to life.

He heard it coming hoping that she would be able to let it out. He growled when she bit it back and his eyes lit up slightly. “No no don’t you dare keep it in anymore. What didn’t he think was perfect? You wasn’t it? no matter how hard you tried you didn’t even register to him you were just a girl weren’t you?”

The look of how her face paled spoke louder then works. He hit the nail right on the head with her, even thought she shook her head, "I never said that." She shook her head a little harder, "It wasn't one thing it was everything. No one and nothing but his heir was perfect to my father. Yet at the same time he demanded perfection. So... since no one was perfect..." She moved away again, "Why am I telling you this?"

He gently moved closer and placed one hand on her back stepping closer to her then was proper but offering his support. “Because you need to get it out and I’m the only one to talk to.” His other hand brushed her arm lightly. “But even with him not thinking anything was good enough still it hurt that he didn’t think you were didn’t it?”

"I don't want to talk about this, especially to you," and it was clear by the way she tugged her arm again, she meant it. But the way she said it told him she was not ready to speak with him over such things with him. Not now and not like this. There was no challenge in her just a want to change the topic away from what it was in this moment.

He nodded and then turned back to the food. “Fair enough, would you like to hear how you brother is doing? His punishment has tried other parts of his body and mind then yours has.” he went back over to the tree sitting down and picking back up his cup of spiced wine and taking a drink.

She turned to him again, her jaw dropped, "Is he hurt? You just tell me this now?!" She moved to stand over him, her hands on her hips, "You said he was fine, was that a lie? I want to see him.... will you let me when we go back to the keep? Hasn't it been long enough for this punishment?"

He held his hands up in defensive posture as though too ward her off. “Easy there, he is fine, he might be a little sore and have a couple bruises here and there but he is fine. All good for a boy to learn to grow up with.” he thought over what she was saying and weighed out the pros and cons. “I will let you see him but I won’t let you talk to him, you still seem to need this so for now it will continue but I will let you come out and walk around with me if you wish.”

"That's not at all fair!" she protested. "Just why do I still SEEM to need this kind of restrictions? What have I done but put up with such a silly punishment for a week? I promise I will not attempt to escape again. What more do you want from me to give?"

He laughed noticing that she totally missed everything that he had said about her brother. “The only thing I wish from you is your company, and being the laird of the land I can take special measures to make sure you spend time with me. Now your choices are to spend all your time in your room or to walk with me around the castle and courtyards and maybe even take a few more rides like this one. Is that really too much to ask?”

"To speak only with you? Walk only with you? Ride only with you?" she ask him, her voice rather calm compared to her bit of rage she had just had over her brother being possibly hurt. "Am I to be your pretty bird in a cage? Perhaps you should like for me to sing for you as well?" Sighing, she moved across the blanket, out of this reach and sitting upon the blanket.

He smirked and shrugged a little at what she was saying. “Well you are very beautiful. But as for a bird in a cage. I don’t think so at least not for long if you keep doing so well. You see I am letting you out already we are making progress.” He smirked and handed her the cup she had been using refilled with wine at this point.

She gave him a pout as she waved took the cup from him and drunk from it. "I'm not a child nor some horse you can train to do your bidding you know. I don't appreciate to being treated as one. You wish me to treat you better... I ask the same of you to me... that's all." And when she said that was all, she meant it. The way she pursed her lips it was clear that the conversation, for now, was over.

He smiled and nodded, “It is agreed then, I treat you better and you will treat me better, I can work with that arrangement.” He smirked a little as he twisted her words just a little standing up and cleaning up the food, closing back up the packages and placing them back in the saddle bags before cleaning the rest of their picnic up and helping her onto the horse. They returned to the keep and he walked her back to her room smiling “I will see you for dinner then.”
He immediately went to go find Flynn, there were some things he needed to talk to that boy about.

Flynn was in the middle of a practice spar with another lad that was about the same age as him, but twice the size. It didn't take much time for Flynn to get beaten in the little play fight, but it was still much longer then it would have been him to be taken down just a few weeks ago when he first arrived. Seeing that Kael was there, Angus called the lad over, handing him a cloth to clean himself a bit and some water.

Flynn smile a little up at Kael, knowing the look on his face well, "I told you she'd be a challenge..."

Kael watched the boy for a moment as the larger lad beat him. he sighed shaking his head as Flynn walked over. “A challenge is one thing, but your sister is something else.” He proceeded to tell Flynn how things had been going and his plan for how to slowly move to giving her back what she wanted. Detailing the next couple days and then asked for anything that could be of benefit to him in his quest.

"Hmmm," Flynn said as he took a drink of this water to wet his lips, "You are right around our father. He didn't think her perfect. He didn't even think her worth anything because she would only cost him the price of her dowry rather then gain him anything of solid value. He never showed her and kind of favor. Not even small things." His face lit up as if he had just had an idea hit him suddenly. "You know, I get giving her something to do she liked would help. Put her in a better mood when you did come to see her. She'd be far more agreeable with you. She loves to draw. She's good at it too. A little paper and some charcoal... she could draw you amazingly realistic things."

Kael nodded slowly thinking over what Flynn said nodding slowly. “I will think of some way of doing that thank you Flynn now you had better come to dinner tonight, and look presentable. I don’t want Blair trying to gut me because you have bruises over half your face.” he laughed and turned back to the keep leaving Angus with Flynn to keep an eye on the kid. He would have to think carefully about how to bring it up so that she didn’t realize what he was doing with Flynn.

He would still be trying to figure it out when he went up to get her for dinner. Coming up and knocking once on her door as always he just walked in afterwards. This time he had nothing in his hands no tray or drink or anything at all. “I thought that you might enjoy coming down and joining everyone down in the main dining hall tonight.”

She was, just like always sitting in her window, waiting, but when she turned her face, her brow wrinkled in question as to why he did not have the usual tray with him. When he told her that he was letting her come down to dinner with other people, at first her face lit up but then she seemed to hold it back as she raised a brow, wondering what the catch was, "Will I be able to speak while there?"

He raised his own brow and smiled walking over and standing close to her holding his arm out in offering. “Yes you can speak and spend time with people while you are there, but I will be escorting you to and from the dining hall. Fair enough?” he smiled charmingly just waiting for her to accept or not and seeing that she was really wanting to get out then he guessed she would accept.

She got a little close, but still did not accept this arm from him, still hesitant that there was a trick within this gesture of kindness. "And.... my brother will be there as well? I will be able to see and speak with him? You must forgive me for being hesitant but I don't understand this sudden change of your mind."

He laughed softly and turned to the door beside her going over to it and opening it for her motioning out. “Yes he will be there, and don’t worry I understand it and know why, but its simple. We agreed that if I was nicer to you, you would be nicer to me. So I’m being nicer its your turn to hold up your side of the deal.”

She sighed heavily and had to admit, they had made a sort of deal to be nice and this was what he asked in return for his kindness so be it. Plus... she wanted to talk to people and see her brother! Taking his arm at last, "Very well. If I must I suppose I must."

But the second that he brought her into the room, and she saw her brother, she was out of his reach and sprinted across the room to be caught by Flynn in a tight hug, "Oh I have missed seeing you Flynn!"

He smiled and walked her down into the dining hall and then stepping away letting go and just smiling as she hugged her brother just letting the two have some time as he moved over to sit at the dinner table.

Flynn smiled and hugged her clearly relieved that she hadn’t figured out that he was the one that had kinda set this all up. His face didn’t look too bad though his black eye did mark him as having been through something rough recently. “I missed you too Blair.”

She gasped as the grasped his face in her hands and looked at his eye more closely, her anger growing in her eyes as she looked at him close, "He told me you hadn't been hurt."

"It doesn't hurt Blair. It looks much worse then it is and I was able to give him one back to," Flynn told her as he smiled big, pride in his eyes like his sister had never seen before. She jaw dropped a little, never being able to picture her brother like this. A black eye, and proud of getting beaten up. If he had gotten a black eye in a fight and their father saw, he'd get a second to go with it for failing. "Come Blair, sit down," he told her as he directed her to the table.

She followed him to the table, where he took her to near the head of the table once again, placing her close to Kael but Flynn on the other side of her. This time. A little small was on her lips that had not been there for a long time.
