The Last Video Game You Finished

I've heard about Lies of P. Similar to Dark Souls but would you say it's more forgiving than Dark Souls itself or more of a challenge?

And I’d like to say I’ve finished Dead Cells, but that’s a bit of a stretch. On the second boss cell and while it “ends”, but not as a traditional roguelike.

Lies of P is VERY similar to Dark Souls, depending on what you consider 'Dark Souls'. I would describe it more like a fusion of Bloodborne and Sekiro, honestly. There's a "you get a certain portion of damage you block that you can get back by being aggressive" mechanic ala Bloodborne, but there's also a "enough perfect guards can break an enemy's stamina bar and let you do big damage" mechanic similar to Sekiro.

World building is a lot better than Souls games, though, as it's not buried in a thousand little snippets of item text that you have to piece together like a conspiracy theorist.

Ahhh yeah, Dead cells. I got up to like 4 Boss Cells, but then gave up. Prime indicator of the 'build sprawl' problem in roguelikes, IMO. Like, there's nothing worse than when a game is made worse by the number of weapons it offers. If I'm doing 20 runs and not getting great builds there's a problem. Alas.

I loved it so much. Definitely my GOTY. Khazan I heard good things about.

Uhhh you heard wrong on Khazan. Or rather you probably heard what I heard which was glazing by masochists that really want to feel like they're superior because they beat a 'hard' game. Other than some lovely voice acting by Ben Starr and a decent art style, I would say there is just nothing there, though.

The difficulty comes from the fact that they really made perfect guarding almost worthless and instead introduced a 'delayed' parry mechanism. Which in itself is stupid, but gets stupider in that the game is like 'some attacks can't be parried' and doesn't bother to provide any indicator as to which those are or aren't. So for a 'high risk / high reward' mechanism it's pretty lackluster. Also, enemies scale with your levels, which I consider antithetical to any rpg progression system. Also the story is just bad. You'll find better and more original stories in most of the RP request threads than you will in that game. I could literally describe it in less than a paragraph.

But! If you like feeling like you overcame a garbage combat system, I would say go for it.

Being that it’s based of DNF I wouldn’t expect much story wise.

Appreciate you describing how this game differs from others of similar gameplay. It does have the potential for sure.

The furthest I've got to was the Astro Lab and the Collector. Mind you, after playing it for quite a number of years, Assist mode made it easier. Though finding the right gear does help, especially when you find the golden sets.

Yep. If you want something that is more of a Dead Cells / Dark Souls hybrid, you might want to check out either Blasphemous or Nine Sols.

I've read about Blasphemous - which you can get the skin in Dead Cells. But while that game looks reasonable, I'm not a fan of the art style or character.

The helmet worn, looks ridiculous if I'm honest. The Last Faith has a similar feel, but more Bloodborne, yet known to have issues.
I'll stick with Dead Cells as it provides enough challenges and to this day, still increases my blood pressure.

The helmet, I believe, is actually based on a Spanish sect of Catholicism, which is pretty heavily featured in the themes of the game, but I can understand if it doesn't really vibe with you.

I beat the Last Faith and while I can see the Bloodborne inspiration it was pretty lackluster, in my opinion overall. Blasphemous was better gameplay wise, as was Nine Sols.

Finished Verdict Guilty. Very below average but I appreciate some of the sprite work.

To each of their own and I suppose the developers wanted to give it a unique look/style. I don't mind gritty or dark, but there are limits.

Good to know before considering about Last Faith (it had potential when being released, but didn't seem to be as promising in the end)

Street fighter? Only seeing the images but haven't played it. Nor do I have any plans to of course
Then how can you compare without at least seeing it in action. It’s a 2D fighter… Tekken was one of the worst comparisons you could have made. You don’t have to chime into every single comment lol

Alright. Keep in mind - it's not easy for me to connect with others. I try to find common ground with those I can, even if I go out of my way despite it being awkward.

That connection comes off faulty if your context makes no sense. Aside from being fighting games, a 2D and 3D fighter couldn’t be more different.

That being said, I am going to cleanse my palette a bit with some Fortnite, and gacha games… then maybe try something like Bleach Rebirth of Souls or something I’ve wanted to play for a while like God of War 2018 or possibly something on the switch like Princess Peach Showtime.

Fair enough. I apologize for said context or my mistake on comparison.

Have fun
Please continue conversations. That could have completely changed if instead of making the assumption, just asking.

Does it play like Tekken?

All I’m saying

I probably should have compared it to... Street Fighter (which has a similar feel. I know Tekken is 3D, that's a given), as I'm not one who would normally play those kinds of games.

I'll let others discuss their games played. I've got a while before completing some anyway.

Playing a dating sim called Date Z: Welcome to Massville High. It’s a pretty normal dating sim except there is a zombie outbreak in the middle of it. Went for a character named Patty as she’s very much inspired by Orihime from bleach to me.

That's one game I wouldn't even think would be made. But, I've seen some... interesting games over the years. Worth playing?

It’s a pretty average dating sim. Nothing too graphic in terms of sexual content or violence, so it leaves a lot to be desired.

The four main girls are interesting enough.

A sweet, slightly airheaded girl.

An athletic aggressive tomboy.

An intelligent and nerdy girl who loves roleplaying.

An uncanny journalist type who’s an oddball everywhere she goes.

I enjoy the comic strip art style, wish they were at least partially voiced over, and there are other interesting females in the game that are not romance options.

There is a fifth, a mysterious and otherwise odd and elusive girl who seems to know everything that is going on and seems several steps ahead of everyone else.

Worth playing? For me? Sure. I like dating sims. It’s not as gruesome as DDLC but it has good moments.

It's good to know you found the genre that stands out and seems to be more popular with dating sims/visual novels. There was a dating game, called: Date everything - household objects that are discovered and turned into humans with AI glasses and is sandbox based.

I’ll get around to that one eventually. I just don’t really care too much for same sex relations if that’s an option to 100% a game.

That's fair. I suppose those who are into that, by all means. I won't play it, but clever use of AI in a sense and when you do get around to it, I'll know how it went.

If you’re not going to play it, why would you want to know?

I might not play it at all, this particular one drew my attention with the character designs
