I've heard about Lies of P. Similar to Dark Souls but would you say it's more forgiving than Dark Souls itself or more of a challenge?
And I’d like to say I’ve finished Dead Cells, but that’s a bit of a stretch. On the second boss cell and while it “ends”, but not as a traditional roguelike.
Lies of P is VERY similar to Dark Souls, depending on what you consider 'Dark Souls'. I would describe it more like a fusion of Bloodborne and Sekiro, honestly. There's a "you get a certain portion of damage you block that you can get back by being aggressive" mechanic ala Bloodborne, but there's also a "enough perfect guards can break an enemy's stamina bar and let you do big damage" mechanic similar to Sekiro.
World building is a lot better than Souls games, though, as it's not buried in a thousand little snippets of item text that you have to piece together like a conspiracy theorist.
Ahhh yeah, Dead cells. I got up to like 4 Boss Cells, but then gave up. Prime indicator of the 'build sprawl' problem in roguelikes, IMO. Like, there's nothing worse than when a game is made worse by the number of weapons it offers. If I'm doing 20 runs and not getting great builds there's a problem. Alas.
