Proboards...seems ages ago since I was on there but back then you had like multiple accounts for your characters and like signatures and avatars to represent said character. Oh and the oc sheets, yeah, like that was kind of the whole audition process back then as the person who ran the forum would have to approve your character before you even got to rp. And yes there were sometimes rp samples needed especially when you were rping a canon. Apart from myself throwing in some oc sheets now and then I haven't had to deal with that too much.

First 'forum' equivalent was Yahoo groups (and whatever it was called before that) and Yahoo clubs. But I originally started RPing in Yahoo chat.

I first started in the forum games section of a Harvest Moon forum, and Gaia was my first big forum I was playing with strangers on. I bounced around a lot of places before landing here, mostly smaller forums or weird niche spaces (like pbbgs for a few years before I burned out on certain issues inherent to the platform)
