Batgirl Begins (dbspock/WendyTheRed)

Barbara shook her head at Sam's question. "Not literally. I mean she has that level of skill. I don't mean that she runs a dojo that will be taking part in tournaments and stuff." Technically, Sara did run a dojo it seemed but it was much different than Miyagi-Do and Barbara wasn't about to get into that discussion for multiple reasons. What Barbara said was true in that Sara did not run a dojo that would be involved in tournaments. It just wasn't the full truth.

Barbara continued her practicing of the defensive movements until Daniel addressed her and she stopped. She followed him to the pond, walking next to Chloe and eying the platform. She looked it over and nodded, then glanced at Chloe with a smile. "Well, let's do this." She moved to the far side of the platform from Chloe. "Let's both get on at the same time. It'd be a shame to fall off from the start. Ready? 3...2...1..." On one she stepped onto the platform, moving to stand roughly in the middle of her side of it. Should Chloe fall she'd do her best to keep her balance and move to the dead center of it, prepared to use her weight to assist Chloe in getting back onto it if needed.

Ah...well, that explained it a bit, though if Babs mysterious friend didn't run a dojo, how did she have a student? John had been even more elusive than Babs when it came to his background...Sam had felt lucky to get his name out of him. But if it meant the chance to beat Cobra Kai at the tournament, Sam was willing to live with the mystery.

Chloe was very glad Dave was working this evening, and that Mr. Larusso had better things to do than stare at her butt, as the only thing she could think of to do was crawl out onto the platform, her said butt wriggling as she approached Babs in the center. Chloe didn't fall, at least, though she did grab hold of Babs as she rose to her feet. But getting on the platform and standing was one thing...now Mr. Larusso wanted them to sense their 'opponents' movements by the shifting of the platform...with their backs to each other. Chloe tentatively turned around, then began to wave her arms wildly as she tried to keep her balance as the platform shifted, one of her arms striking Babs in the shoulder as she did so.

Barbara was unaware of Sam's confusion. To her it made perfect sense that someone might teach someone else without a formal dojo so it never even occurred to her that Sam might think in more formal terms. Soon, she was more focused on countering Chloe's crawling onto the platform with her own weight and she was proud that Chloe did it without any issues.

She listened to Daniel and slowly turned around. She took a deep breath to steady her breathing and concentration only for Chloe to hit her in the shoulder. Barbara wobbled, having been caught by surprise but luckily her feet were placed somewhat widely and she was stronger than Chloe so she didn't quite take a plunge, at least, not from the initial strike. Though if Chloe's balance got worse, they might both end up in the water very soon.

Chloe did manage to regain her balance without either of them taking a plunge...yet. "Sorry." Chloe said softly as she copied Babs and spread her feet a little for balance. If they could have just stood there, Chloe would have been fine, but that wasn't the point of the exercise. Chloe copied Babs again and took a deep breath, then they slowly began to move through the Kata. Chloe grinned as she actually began to anticipate Babs movements through the shifting of the disk in the water...and if the disk had been bigger, she might have been fine. But Chloe wasn't used to having space limitations for the movement, and took a half step too far once. Unfortunately once was all it took, and Chloe's foot began to slip off the disk, sending Chloe crashing down on her butt on the disk, which began to tip. Even if Babs managed to copy Chloe's movements exactly, it probably wouldn't have stopped the disk from tipping.

Barbara let out a sigh of relief. "We're learning Chloe. It's why we've over water and not up in the air over concrete or something..." Barbara let herself fall back into the rhythm of the kata, something she'd taken to doing even when she wasn't here and so it was starting to become familiar to her. She could feel that Chloe was falling into it as well and matching her movements and it occurred to Barbara that when done like this it was almost a dance and she seemed to be the one leading it due to being more familiar with the movements.

She felt it when Chloe's balance shifted and for a moment she held out hope that maybe she'd recover. It all happened quickly after that, Chloe's foot slipped and she felt her friend fall on her ass behind her. She wobbled, falling out of the kata as she turned her concentration to staying on her feet. She had great balance from her time in gymnastics but there were limits and she also pivoted slightly to check on Chloe. When the disk tipped she mentally congratulated herself for somehow mostly staying on her feet as she rode it down into the water, though she still ended up dunked along with Chloe.

She surfaced quickly and laughed. "You alright Chloe? You up for trying again?" She ran her hands through her wet hair, gathering it behind her and squeezing some water out. She reached behind herself to rub at her rear which had met the disk at the end of her slide despite her best attempts not to. Hopefully she wouldn't have a huge bruise or something...

Chloe giggled softly at the idea of doing this over concrete. "Or how about a pit full of ravenous lions?" Chloe joked, hoping to ease the tension at least in her own mind, but clearly it didn't work too well as she went plunging into the water. Or maybe it did work, and Chloe would have gotten dunked much sooner otherwise.

"Sorry..." Chloe gasped again once she resurfaced, and she relaxed a bit when she saw Babs was laughing and didn't appear to be upset. "I'm fine...didn't catch any fish though." Chloe complained with a grin, and there were indeed a few fish swimming around in the pond, a pond that wasn't as cold as Chloe feared it might be. Chloe wiped her hair back as well, though as it was shorter than Babs she had an easier time of it. "You all right?' Chloe asked with a frown when she saw Babs rub her butt.

Dave had just arrived to try a bit of training himself, but he was still dressed in his Big Belly Burger uniform when he entered the back yard. He saw Babs and Chloe fall and went over to them. "You two all right?" He asked, relieved that they resurfaced at least. "Need a hand?" He offered, not sure how he could help, so he gestured over his shoulder to where a couple big Bell Burger bags were sitting on a picnic table. "I brought dinner if anyone's hungry." He said as he tried not to stare at Babs. Chloe still had her sweatsuit on, so the water didn't do much, but Babs looked almost like she was getting ready for a wet t-shirt contest.

Barbara grinned at Chloe's comment about the fish and looked down in the water. She briefly debated trying to catch one but was distracted by Chloe's question. "Yeah, fell on my butt before sliding off of the platform. Guess mine's not as padded as yours is..." she couldn't help teasing her friend a little and she glanced over when she saw movement out of the corner of her eye, smiling when she saw Dave approaching.

"We're fine. Chloe just wanted to have some fish for dinner." She smiled and shook her head at the offer of help. Knowing her luck she'd pull him into the water with her or something, especially since she was taller and had more muscles than he did. She grabbed the edge of the pond and pulled herself out, blushing when she realized the action had tugged her athletic shorts down, exposing about half of her rear. She had panties on but her hips still showed pretty well.

She tugged them back up, glancing around to see if anyone noticed, blushing more when she realized Dave probably saw. That was only made worse when she realized her nipples were poking through her bra and tank top due to the cool water and the sudden exposure to the air. "Burgers sound great." She said in an attempt to keep things a bit less embarrassing and just move on.

"Wait...what?" Had Barbara...Miss Gordon...just called her FAT?! It certainly sounded that way, and no matter how many times Chloe played it back in her head, she couldn't come up with a way that wasn't offensive. The red head thought they fell over because Chloe was too fat. Chloe's face turned bright red as she scrambled out of the pool, mumbling something before she dashed into the pool hut.

"Well, I'd suggest burgers instead." Dave grinned at Babs, not hearing the comment that had made Chloe run, and before he could wonder at his friends absence, Babs distracted him by flashing him with her butt. He wasn't the only one that noticed either...Sam crowed as she finally got a hit in on John, who stumbled slightly, then turned to Sam with an annoyed look on his face. Sam actually paled slightly and backed away a bit before her dad called a break for dinner.

Dave nodded at Babs and smiled when she accepted his offer. "I got a few chocolate shakes too...though it doesn't look like you need to cool off." Dave risked teasing her with a tentative smile, ready to apologize if Babs looked offended.

Barbara was many things, unobservant wasn't one of them. Sometimes she could be a bit oblivious socially however. But, when you're blessed, or cursed, with eidetic memory, you can more or less replay moments in time in your head and Barbara did just that as she stood from the pool. She heard Chloe's reply to her and saw her friend running to the pool hut. Even though she hadn't consciously noticed, she had still caught the redness on her face.

She looked at Dave, somewhat distracted. "Hmmm? A shake would be great. Save two shakes, two burgers, two fries please? One for me. One for Chloe." She then hurried to the pool hut and pushed her way inside, closing the door behind herself. She leaned on the door and crossed her arms, talking only loud enough for Chloe to hear her.

"You know, they say I have a genius level IQ. I hacked the Pentagon a couple of months ago on a whim because someone said I couldn't do it. I hacked the Batmobile's stealth last week on your laptop, met Batman and now I know who he really is because I was able to memorize every detail of his jawline, lips and eyes and recognized them when I saw him in his civilian guise." She pushed off from the door and moved closer to Chloe, talking quietly. "I'm taller than most girls. I'm strong, fast, graceful. I have an eidetic memory..."

She stopped right next to Chloe. "But...I don't have many friends. No one in Chicago to miss me, not even my mother. I've never had a boyfriend. I was always the girl that everyone thought was arrogant and pushy. And I guess I am. Because I..." She flailed her hands. "I don't know how to act around people Chloe. I try but I always screw up. John is mad at me and I don't know why. Also, he's not here for me. He's here because he thinks Sam is hot. Dave? Dave is nice and kind of flirty but he is kind of scared of me and I think he has a thing for you. I think Sam and I are becoming friends so that's something."

She sighed. "I was trying to tease you in the pool and it went wrong and now I've upset the only friend I've ever really had. And..." She ran her fingers through her hair in a rare show of true anxiety. "and I don't know what to do and how to make it right. There's so much I want to share with you. Things I'm trying to do that I'm dying to confide in someone and the only one that comes to mind is...you. Please, don't be mad at me Chloe. Please don't be hurt by me. I don't think I could bear losing my friend."

Dave, for his part, wasn't nearly as observant as Babs. Of course he'd seen his friend run off to the pool hut, but he figured she was going to dry off or something. So it wasn't at all surprising when Babs went after her, presumably to do the same thing. "Sure thing." He assured her. He'd texted Sam and asked how many people were there, so he'd brought plenty of food for everyone. he figured the others were probably observant enough to notice the two missing girls and wouldn't eat their food even if he didn't try and save it for them.

Babs didn't have to talk loud for Chloe to hear her once she got in the door. The blonde hadn't gone far and was sitting on the floor, her legs hugged to her chest and her face buried in her knees. At first, Chloe didn't look up even though she had to have heard Babs come in, but as soon as she mentioned Batman Chloe looked up, and Babs could now see the tears on her face.

When Babs finished speaking, Chloe rose to her feet. She had no idea what to say at first, so she just hugged the other girl. "That's the best non-apology I've ever heard." Chloe giggled softly, recalling that Babs had never actually said the word 'sorry'. "You must get that from your dad." Chloe observed. The elder Gordon never really apologized either.

"And Sam is hot. And a fighter. From what I've seen of John, he is too, so its no wonder they hit it off a bit...literally from the looks of them. Did you ant me to find out why he's mad at you?" Chloe offered as she broke the hug. "And I doubt Dave notices either of us have boobs." Chloe giggled. She had no idea how wrong she was about that.

"And wait...you know who Batman is? Spill it." Chloe demanded as she leaned against the door, clearly not about to let Babs out until she had an answer. Or Babs kicked her out of the way, which Chloe knew was a possibility.

Barbara blinked at Chloe's reply though she was glad for the forgiveness. Still, she couldn't help an exasperated sigh. "See? I tried to apologize and didn't quite do it right. I'm hopeless at this friend thing huh?" Barbara shook her head at Chloe's offer to find out why he was mad. "No, I doubt he'd tell you. He keeps things close to the vest, so to speak. And knowing him, he'd get irritated with me for saying something." She nodded a little at Chloe's reasoning behind John and Sam. "Hmmm...you're probably right. Though I'm going to be a fighter too."

When Chloe leaned against the door she sighed and paced back and forth. "I can't Chloe. Technically, he hasn't admitted it to me yet. I mean, would you? If a random teenage girl told you she knew your biggest secret? I asked him for training and he told me no but I think he's subtly helping me anyway." She shrugged and stopped, looking at Chloe. "I promised him I would never reveal his secret. It's important, you know? He doesn't hide his face for the fun of it. I think he does it to protect the people he cares about from retaliation."

Despite, or perhaps because of, the tense situation, Chloe giggled again. "You did great...in fact, you could give your dad a few lessons in how to apologize. He just gives you flowers and never mentions it." She said, then hugged Babs again. "Your a great friend." Chloe claimed, biting back her instinct to add the word 'usually'. This wasn't the time for jokes, no matter how accurate they might be. She nodded when Babs refused her offer to talk to John, and she was actually a bit relieved as she'd have no idea what to say anyway. She did nod when Babs said she was going to be a fighter. "You mean if my fat butt doesn't get in the way, right?" Chloe asked with a rueful grin.

Chloe nodded when Babs refused to give her Batman's name. She really hadn't expected anything less. Her eyes did widen, though, when Babs said Batman was helping her. Chloe knew Babs hadn't been in town too long, and the only people she'd really met had been at the gala...which meant Batman had been at the gala. And Chloe knew most of the people Babs had talked to at said gala...and only one was helping Babs as far as she knew. Also, as a native Gothamite, Chloe was well aware of Bruce Wayne's tragic history, and the theory of Batman's motivation...there was only one logical solution Chloe could come up with, but she didn't want to share it with Babs and risk looking like an idiot if she was wrong. Instead, Chloe smirked a bit. "It's your dad, isn't it?" She asked. "That's why he keeps going out on those late night calls."

She smirked at the image of her dad awkwardly handing Chloe flowers. She hugged her back, glad to hear that she was a great friend to Chloe and she rubbed the other girl's back as they hugged. She sighed at Chloe's reply about her butt. "You don't have a fat butt. I was trying to tease and play and clearly I am not good at it. At all. You have the kind of butt that make men and boys stare."

"My dad?" Barbara laughed and shook her head. "No. No." She nearly told Chloe about how Batman had shown up in her dad's house and shook her awake while calling her Jim. But she decided she needed to keep that information to herself for now. She'd already said way too much and she could see Chloe's eyes widen when she mentioned Batman helping her. "Don't get the wrong idea. I don't know for sure that he's helping me. I feel like, he knows what I've been doing and is just sort of...pretending he doesn't or maybe even nudging things once in a while." She sighed. "He lectured me about my plans when I asked for his help though." She spoke in a gruff imitation of his voice. ""There are more feasible ways to help people. Ways that won't get you killed, or put your father in danger." She shook her head in irritation, having that teenage feeling that an adult wasn't taking her seriously, compounded by how extremely smart she was and how she usually felt that way in general.

"Not as much as they stare at yours." Chloe pointed out with a giggle. Clearly she'd noticed how the boys had reacted to Bab's little wardrobe malfunction earlier. She laughed again when Babs denied her dad was Batman. Not that she'd expected anything less. She nodded when she said she wasn't sure what batman was up to. "That doesn't surprise me. From some of the stuff I've heard, I don't think Batman knows what Batman is up to sometimes." Chloe cocked her head when Babs tried to imitate Batman. Of course Chloe had no idea what Batman sounded like, so she couldn't gauge the accuracy of the imitation, but it was more what Babs said that caught her interest. "Get you killed? Just what are you planning?" Chloe asked, concerned as she found a towel and began to dry her hair off.

Barbara blushed at the reminder of her wardrobe malfunction. On the one hand, she was embarrassed but part of her enjoyed knowing she had gotten some attention as she sometimes felt a bit invisible around Chloe and especially Sam. She smirked at her reply about Batman and his mysterious ways and how they even applied to himself. From what she'd seen, he knew very well what he was doing and was excellent at pretending otherwise, especially as Bruce Wayne.

She began to dry her own hair and glanced at the door and then back at Chloe. "If I tell you, you can't tell a soul. Not my dad. Not anyone. There are some secrets that have to be kept because they're important." She shook her head. "I probably shouldn't tell you.."

Serves you right. Chloe thought as she saw Babs blush. Chloe wasn't normally a vindictive person, but after the crack Babs had made about her weight, a little return embarrassment was due. But those thoughts were quickly driven from Chloe's mind as Babs presented the possibility she might confirm Chloe's suspicions about Batman's secret ID. "I won't even tell myself." Chloe promised, which of course made no sense, but she didn't really care at the moment.

Barbara missed any outward signs that Chloe took a bit of petty pleasure in her being embarrassed. If she had known she'd have been fine with it anyway, also thinking she deserved it. She cocked her head at Chloe's reply and the gears almost visibly turned in her head as she tried to parse that statement. She bit her lip, heart pounding as she considered and then decided she had to tell someone. She had to have someone to confide in and she didn't know when, or even if, Batman would open up to her so she had someone to talk to.

"So, you know I was attacked by Ghost Dragons and no one helped. And that I jumped in to help Sam because I didn't want anyone else to suffer what I did." She paused...working up the courage and her voice dropped even lower so Chloe would have to lean in to hear. "I made myself a promise. I wouldn't stand by. I wouldn't let someone else suffer if I could help. So everything I have done, everything I am doing is in service of that promise. Getting martial arts training? Part of it. And not just here at Miyagi-Do. You know the other source, you were there and helped me get to it." She shook out her hands at her sides nervously. "Talking my way onto the delivery team? Part of it, so I'd have an excuse to get armor, a utility belt and tools from R&D. Stuff I can keep checked out indefinitely because of who I work for." She let out a long, slow breath. "And while I was there, I casually asked about a cloak or cape that could stiffen and become a glider. R&D is going to help me with that too..." She waited to see if Chloe would connect the dots, heart pounding.

Chloe nodded as Babs began her speech, well aware of the Ghost Dragon attack, and of course she'd been there for the mall incident. A frown flickered across Chloe's face as Babs dropped her voice, as if afraid of being overheard, and she stepped closer so as to not to miss a word. She nodded once again as Bab's mentioned her other teacher, and Chloe suspected she'd already met one of Bab's fellow students.

She hadn't heard about Bab's visit to R&D yet, or the results of that vision, and her eyes widened as Babs mentioned armor and a utility belt. Equipment that as Batman's...Bruce Wayne's...assistant, no one would dare ask the whereabouts of. Chloe then frowned thoughtfully as Babs mentioned the cape, and it wasn't hard to make the connection. When Babs had mentioned a secret, Chloe had thought it would be about Batman, and while Chloe may not have been a genius like Babs, she wasn't an idiot either. "So what...your job at Wayne enterprises is just a cover, and your going to become Batman Junior or something?" Chloe asked, her voice somewhere between skepticism and excitement.

Barbara shook her head. "No, the job is the real deal. I just seized the opportunity it presented especially when I was able to talk my way onto that delivery and had the excuse of wanting full armor to hide my face from my dad and protect myself." She laughed quietly at 'Batman Junior'. "Well, he declined to train me, like I said. But it's not like he can sue me if I adopt some of his iconography like the Bat symbol." She pondered. "I guess I'll be more of a Bat...girl?"

She shrugged a little self consciously and looked at Chloe with a pleading look. "You now know my biggest secret. And you could destroy my plans simply by telling my dad. Please don't. This is my path, the course of my life. I've already come to terms with what it will mean for my life going forward. Things like...going on dates and going to Prom and stuff like that are not in my future but...if just one girl gets saved by me and has hope that someone out there is watching out for people, it'll be worth it."

"I don't know...I bet he has an army of lawyers in his utility belt. If he wanted to sue you, I'm sure he could." Chloe reflexively teased her, though Chloe's mind was churning with the information Bab's had dumped on her. True, it wasn't outright confirmation of Batman's secret ID, but Bab's had gotten the same type of equipment from a source Bruce Wayne easily had access to. Chloe nodded slowly as Babs mentioned the name Batgirl. "That does have a nice ring to it." Chloe confirmed, then giggled. "Are you going to tell your publicist?" She asked with a wink.

Chloe immediately got serious when Babs mentioned she knew her biggest secret. "Not a word...to anyone. Especially your dad." Chloe then turned a bit red. "If he starts asking me about it though...he'll probably figure out I'm hiding something." Chloe admitted. She wasn't a good liar, and an experienced interrogator like Jim would probably figure it out. "Well...one girl has already been saved by you." Chloe pointed out as she gestured over her shoulder to where she figured Sam would be.

Barbara smirked. "I'm pretty sure Batman can't exactly hire people Chloe. He's a vigilante who is technically wanted by the police. And how would he pay them? With his Batman branded credit card?" She shook her head, giggle-snorting at the very idea of something so ludicrous. She smiled as Chloe confirmed Batgirl had a nice ring. She'd just tossed out the first thing that popped into her head. Supergirl existed though, so why not Batgirl? She smiled. "I don't think I can afford a publicist."

Barbara nodded her understanding of what Chloe told her. "Well, I'm counting on him not figuring it out simply because I think he'll do one of these..." She put her hand on her chin and pretended to be looking at something she held in her hand. She spoke in a mimicked version of her dad's voice. "Huh...Batgirl has red hair....nah. There's no way that's my little girl." She winked at Chloe then looked more serious. "Honestly, I think at some point he'll figure it out and then he'll just never ask me or you because he won't want to know officially. If he doesn't know, he has plausible deniability. " She smiled as Chloe reminded her of Sam. "Yes, saving Sam was...the final turning point. It felt good. It felt right. And I knew what I was going to do from that moment on."

She glanced past Chloe to the door. "We should go out there before people wonder why we've been in here so long and send a search party. Chloe, I'll share what I can with you going forward but some secrets aren't mine to share."

If Batman was who Chloe thought he was, she knew damn well he could hire people. In fact...Chloe paled slightly as she realized she was not only going to have an interview with Bruce Wayne tomorrow, but possibly Batman. "You think Batman couldn't figure out a way to pay someone without it being traced back to him?" Chloe asked skeptically. She was far from an expert, but she'd seen enough TV shows talking about unmarked bills in a suitcase to know it was a possibility, and not exactly beyond Batman's abilities. Though Chloe giggled as well at the idea of Batman pulling a credit card out of his utility belt. Chloe raised her eyebrow as Babs claimed she couldn't afford a publicist. "Oh, I don't know. I think you can afford my rates." Chloe pointed out.

Chloe frowned thoughtfully at Bab's impression of her father. If that was the case and the Captain never asked, Chloe would be able to keep that secret. "Still...maybe you should look into a wig or something." Chloe suggested. Red heads were quite unusual, so why tempt fate? She nodded when Babs said rescuing Sam had felt right. Chloe hadn't instigated it, but she'd been there and helped at least a bit, and Babs was right...it had felt right.

Chloe nodded as Babs suggested leaving before the search party arrived, but it was too late as Sam rapped lightly on the door before she poked her head in. "Everything all right in here?" She asked, relieved that neither of them were bleeding at least. "I have some clothes you can borrow while we throw those in the dryer?" She suggested.

Barbara noticed Chloe paling as they talked but she chalked it up to her thinking about what Babs had told her and perhaps worrying about her. Barbara shrugged. "Perhaps. But I think a lot of lawyers would be unwilling to work with a client whose name they don't even know and who is wanted by the police." She grinned as Chloe giggled at her silly joke. "I can huh? Well, you'll probably have a job to worry about after tomorrow. But we can talk more about my need for a publicist."

Barbara smiled. "Well, first off, I'm proud of my hair. Secondly, there's a lot of it, so getting it under a wig would be a pain. But who knows, maybe I'll think it over." She was glad she had drawn the conversation to a close when they heard the knocking. She just hope Sam hadn't listened in before knocking and she looked at the door. "All is well. I was being my usual bull in an antiques shop and Chloe was helping me to understand why that's a bad idea. And, I might change after I eat but it's only shorts, a sports bra and a tank top, so it'll probably dry in the sun anyway." If nothing else was said she'd hurry to the table and claim an empty chair, beginning to eat her fries like a ravenous lioness.

"Hey, if lawyers refused to work for people who are wanted by the police, that would defeat the whole purpose of the public defenders office." She pointed out, then frowned as Bab's mentioned her potential job. If she'd been nervous before, she was doubly so now. "I hope so." She replied, then nodded when Babs said she was proud of her hair. "Well, maybe we can convince everyone that is a wig." She suggested, then giggled again. "Hey, I can always give you a haircut.' She suggested.

Sam, of course, wouldn't have tried to listen even if she knew there was an important conversation inside, but it was just as well she wasn't tempted. She blinked at Babs response, not entirely understanding what Babs was talking about, but decided if Babs said they were okay, she didn't need to pry. Instead, she nodded when Babs said she might change later, but Chloe, dressed in a track suit, was actually quite uncomfortable and took Sam up on her offer. So Sam and Chloe headed inside while Babs headed for the picnic table.

Daniel had had a business phone call he had to take, so there were plenty of empty seats at the table since only Dave and John were sitting there. John, the remnants of a burger and fries in front of him, was regarding his shake with interest, like he'd never seen one before, while Dave shifted uncomfortably in his seat, not used to the silence but not sure how to break it. he likewise had finished his meal and most of his shake when he saw Babs coming. "I saved you some." he told her, stating the obvious, as he pushed a burger, fries, and shake in her direction once she chose her seat.

Barbara smiled. "True, but even public defenders need to know who their clients are and have one that will show up in court. I somehow doubt Batman will be sitting in a courtroom anytime soon." She winked but then noticed the nervous look on Chloe's face. She placed her hand on her shoulder, looking at her seriously. "Don't be nervous. You have a friend who works for Bruce Wayne. And he is already interested in potentially hiring you. You have this Chloe, trust me." She raised her eyebrows when Chloe mentioned a hair cut. "Hmmm...might not be a bad idea...but we've got time..."

Babs waved Chloe and Sam off and smiled at Dave and John when she sat. "Thank you Dave." She nibbled on her fries and looked between the two of them. She noticed the silence and it didn't take a genius to figure out the issue. She watched as John stared at his shake and thought it wasn't the first time he'd seemed overly curious about relatively common things. Her gaze turned to Dave and she smiled. "So, maybe Sensei Larusso will have you and Chloe get on that disc after we eat." She smiled and waved a french fry at him before eating it, hungrier than she'd realized if the growl of her stomach was anything to go by.

She ate more of her fries and looked between Dave and John again. "Did Sam introduce you two?"
