Sickness (FavoredFox & EDDE)

Hakkai couldn't help the warm smile that spread for the respect his little dragon was so rarely shown being showered on him so freely. This was going to be a lovely resting spot while they had the chance to heal. The ruffle to his feathers made him chuckle lightly. "If it isn't too much trouble, we can correct the record on my role tomorrow once we've rested. I'm afraid I'm getting a bit too weak to translate all that well for you tonight." He wasn't joking. Just keeping his eyes open was hard enough. Talking was a much worse chore.

He did nod lightly in response to the plea. "Alright. The doctor can wrap us up for the night then. And once we've had a good rest I'll take care of the rest." He'd be able to heal the others, even with a broken arm, which he now recognized as it had been pointed out to him, however he would likely take a bit longer himself to heal. That was fine with him though. It would give Hakuryuu a much needed vacation in a place that would treat him like the very special little creature he was. He more than deserved it.

His grip on the small beast loosened lightly. Hakuryuu would be able to rest on his lap comfortably with the water level at the level it was if he so chose, but he also left it open for him to stay in his uninjured arm as he untangled his grasp from the other and leaned over the lip enough to hold it properly outside the tub for the doctor to be able to look over, attempting to hide the wince that came with the rough movement and tug that he felt in his shoulder as he did so.

"I know you want him to look at my arm first, but please allow him to examine you immediately after. The bruise on my leg really is nothing. I ran on it earlier just fine," he promised. Perhaps he was right, and Hakuryuu would be just fine. But he also didn't want to see him hurting.

He smiled a tired smile toward the doctor, sure that the man had caught on to their conversation. It felt more than a bit rude not to add more, and he didn't particularly like that, but he hadn't been joking about how hard it was becoming to communicate. He could always push himself to his limit to try for Hakuryuu. Right now, he just didn't have it in him to push that hard for someone else.

Hakuryuu chose to nestle himself into Hakkai's uninjured arm, and rested his head on the man's chest with a heavy huff of breath. "Okay," he answered all at once. He could wait until tomorrow to correct everyone on Hakkai's role, and he'd let the doctor tend to him once Hakkai was taken care of. He kept his wings spread over Hakkai's chest to offer some bit of warmth and comfort as the doctor moved to help.

The man nodded his head gratefully. "Thank you. I will do everything in my power to help you both," he assured as he carefully took Hakkai's arm in hand. It was certainly broken, and would need to be reset. "This will hurt. I'm going to give you something for the pain and reset your arm." He pulled a syringe and a small bottle from his bag, then filled the injector with the proper amount of the pain killing liquid. "This might sting," he warned gently before sticking Hakkai with the needle.

Hakkai was focused on Hakuryuu, checking on his condition out of habit. He barely heard the doctor, but the words did find him. Not before the needle was plunged into his arm, however. He noticed when he turned to address the man and saw the medicine being administered. It was hardly needed. Hakkai could handle the pain of the reset just fine, and he doubted the medication would affect him much. He had an insanely high tolerance for those sorts of things.

Instead of complaining though, he decoded to keep the conversation light for his lover's sake. No doubt Hakuryuu would be a bit bothered at least. He was just as over protective as of Hakkai as the man was of him. He pet gently at Hakuryuu's neck feathers as he asked the doctor, "How is the rest of our party doing?"

Hakuryuu allowed the doctor to inject Hakkai with the medicine, but did so while giving the man the stink eye. His tail tip twitched in his desire to nip at the doctor's hands, but he refrained. After all, it was his decision to allow it in the first place.

With the injection done, the man carefully took hold of Hakkai's arm to look at it carefully. Setting it was not going to be pleasant, so he decided to answer Hakkai's question first to both distract him and give the medicine time to work. It should only take a minute or two to do so. "Gojyo is doing alright. He just needs to rest, as there are no signs of a concussion. As for Sanzo, I haven't seen to him yet. His injuries aren't life threatening, so the Young Master takes priority."

Hakuryuu couldn't help but fluff up a little at that, even if exhaustion was creeping up on him. He laughed a quiet 'Chu chu chu,' before tiredly boasting. "Hakuryuu is a priority."

With Hakkai distracted by the little dragon giggling in his arms, the doctor pulled harshly on Hakkai's arm. The bones realigned with a crunching pop.

He couldn't help but chuckle at both the answer from the doctor, and Hakryuu's reaction. There was a chance the dragon would grow a rather big head about him during their time there, but it wasn't like it would make him an odd man out in their little group. Besides, it was cute. And the fact that Sanzo wasn't being mentioned with his honorific would be a fun thing to witness as well. It tended to bother him in most cases, but it was also something he was quite used to. Perhaps he and Hakuryuu could keep a tab on the side of his ongoing reaction to the switch-up.

The sudden jolt of pain that surged through his system forced a bit of a flinch out of him and he took a short breath for it before turning his exhausted smile on the doctor. "My, what lovely drugs you have," he teased with a bit of a slur.

Unfortunately, if there was a response he didn't hear it. Once again the world was caving in on him and going dark. Maybe that tease was more real than he'd meant. He was lost.

The doctor blinked a few times at the lack of response he got from Hakkai. He didn't think the drugs would work that well, or that quickly. "I'm glad to be of service," he offered, but he got no response. The man must have truly been exhausted, as when he looked up at him, Hakkai had lost consciousness. "I need to get the two of you out of the tub and into the bed," he stated towards the Young Master, but found that the little dragon had fallen asleep as well. "What a day you must have had," he stated quietly to himself before starting on the task of getting them out of the bath.

It took some effort, but Hakkai and Hakuryuu were moved to the bed. He would have set Hakkai on the couch, but the dragon was adamant about staying in contact with him, even in his sleep. The doctor quietly performed his task, wrapping Hakkai's arm and giving his leg a quick look over to find it was, indeed, fine, though a bit beat up. Hakuryuu, on the other hand, took more time. He carefully disinfected the wounds, causing the little dragon to whine in his sleep, then bandaged him up. He was grateful that no bones seemed to be broken, and his injuries were skin deep. He left them to rest once he was finished.

Hakuryuu woke up some time later, curled up on Hakkai's chest. He blinked open a bleary eye, and for a moment a hint of panic set in when he couldn't see out of his left, but reality came to him quickly, and he remembered their near death experience. "Chu?" He questioned weakly, turning his head from side to side to once again take in his surroundings. That's right, they had all been taken in by a kind inn keeper, and tended to by a convenient doctor.

He noticed Hakkai's thickly wrapped arm before he took any notice of himself. He was covered in slightly stained bandages, his toes individually wrapped, the left side of his face covered, and his legs swathed to cover the worst of his torn scales. He ached. No... No he hurt, but he wouldn't cry out and worry his sleeping master. Instead, Hakuryuu shifted up on the man's chest so he could stretch out his bandaged neck and lightly nip at Hakkai's chin. "Wade ub," he mumbled with a sniffle. His nose was stuffed, and his throat was a little scratchy. "Matder Haggi. Wade ub."

Hakkai felt a nip to his chin. It brought a light smile to his face. He moved instinctively to raise his right hand to pet the small beast before he'd even fully woken up but stopped short with a small flinch. His shoulder was aching something fierce. He'd have to be a bit precious with it for a little while. But it probably wasn't too bad off considering his arm hadn't been put into a sling. If he felt the need, he could always tighten his sash and use it for support if it came down to it.

When Hakuryuu's sniffly words hit his ears he peeked open his eyes. They were washed with concern despite the warm smile on his lips. "Good morning Hakuryuu," he greeted. "If it is even morning yet." The sun hadn't even set when they'd gotten to the inn previously. Although he wasn't entirely sure what time of day it had been due to the complete darkness that storm had thrown them into.

"I'm feeling much better after my nap," he promised to smooth things over for his very obvious immediate suggestion that was to follow. "Allow me to heal you up now, please. And once we've done that, we can see what we can do about a nice meal to work up our strength back to normal."

As he spoke, he was looking him over carefully. Although he couldn't fully tell his condition right away with all those bandages on him, he was honestly more worried about the tone he'd heard in his voice just now. Wounds he could heal. If Hakuryuu was sick, that was a different story. His uninjured hand had taken up the responsibility of the lame on in offering gentle, comforting pets to his little lover without a thought.

"Gud Mornin'" he answered with another sniffle. His white nose was dusted with a dull red, and he sniffed again to keep snot from running out of it. He was forced to breath through his mouth, and while there was the occasional rasp to it, his breathing was otherwise clear. The dragon eagerly pressed into the offered hand, arching his neck along with each stroke, but his usual purr caught in his throat. Thankfully, Hakkai wouldn't feel any extra heat radiating off of the dragon, so if there was a fever, it was incredibly light.

The offer was met with a scrutinizing look. "Is Haggai really oday?" He asked, the trepidation clear in his stuffy tone. Hakuryuu shuffled himself so that he could sit properly on Hakkai's chest, and cautiously stretched out his sore wings before folding them back in on himself.

He saw the suspicious look and couldn't help but chuckle at it. Hakuryuu could almost always bring out his better nature. He also felt a bit better now that he could tell he wasnt too bad off, although he'd be keeping an eye on it.

"I am," he promised again, and told him the truth. "Of course I'm still a bit tired, but I'm healing a broken bone so that's normal. And on that note, I'm certainly in some pain. But it's nothing I can't handle. I'll just have to be careful not to use my arm for a bit and I should be fine."

He sat up, coddling Hakuryuu in his grasp as he did so so that he wouldn't tumble off his chest, then leaned down to offer precious, often exchanged nuzzles between their noses even with though the one opposing him was wet. It looked irritated though so he was careful with it. "Thanks to you, I'm doing very well." He couldn't help but remind him of his heroism again before setting him onto his lap.

"But don't forget, I did say I was going to finish the rest of the rescue. And healing everyone is always my job in the end. No one else knows how. And since you are the closest and presumably the worst off for the amazing beating you took saving us, I don't see why I shouldn't start with you."

Hakuryuu continued to look at him with one squinted eye, even while meeting Hakkai for their good morning nuzzles. It sounded like Hakkai was telling the truth, and he was right that it was his Master's job at the end of the day to heal their companions, but he was still worried about the man who couldn't heal himself.

Settling into Hakkai's lap, the dragon couldn't help but puff out his chest a little bit, and even fluff out his feathers in pride. he'd been the one to save them all, and he did take one heck of a beating in the process. So he settled Hakkai with that look for a few more seconds before it smoothed out into a happy expression. "Oday!" He chirped and lifted up his head for the soothing, healing hand to touch him and ease his pain.

Hakkai watched that skeptical look lovingly, finding it perfectly adorable and heartwarming. When the little dragon relented, his smile broadened. "Thank you Hakuryuu. I appreciate feeling needed, especially when I've been crippled so horribly." The tease was very obviously.over dramatic. He even touched his own eyebrow as he fakely moaned his woes at him to throw on a silly flare to entertain his lover with his antics.

Though he calmed a moment after with a warm chuckled and met that lifting head and closed his eyes to concentrate his warm, healing energy directly on the wound under his hand. This one he would heal a bit first, though not all the way.

Once he'd let his influence flow over the little creature for a few moments and sensed the flesh mending itself beneath the bandages well enough to satisfy that it wouldn't start gushing again if messed with, he pulled his hand away and began slowly un-mummifying his lover. "They're too tight to comfortably grow back your scales beneath them. Sorry about this," he offered sweetly as he moved as quickly and carefully as he could with the use of a single hand. It was a bit difficult. The other rested beside him, more for Hakuryuu's sake than his own.

He didn't stop the sweet creature if he decided to help by nipping and tugging at the bandages in an attempt to help. In fact, he'd likely be able to tear a few off himself with those teeth of his. Once they were fully removed however, he took a deep breath and replaced that hand above the dragon's head.

It would take more concentration on where his energy was flowing, but he wanted to get Hakuryuu fixed up as quickly as possible. So he pooled his energy out and carefully reached out with it to allow it to wash over his lover in waves of healing warmth over his entire body instead of focusing on one spot at a time this time, keeping his eyes closed to keep in tune with the connected he established with his body in order to feel as each wound stitched itself back together and grew back what needed to be grown back.

Hakuryuu couldn't help but chirp his amusement, his wings shifting up and down with his 'Chu chu chu,' at Hakkai dramatics. Still, he calmed himself just as quickly as his master did and pressed his head up into the hand offered to him. He couldn't stop the happy sounds slipping passed his lips as warmth flowed over his head and stitched together the wound over his eye just enough.

He did help with removing his bandages, pulling on some with his sharp teeth to tear through them and tug them away from his body. He even kicked his little feet to help knock them free. It took some time and caused a bit of discomfort, but the bandages were completely removed and Hakkai's hand returned to his head. It was always an odd feeling. He loved the flow of Hakkai's energy through his body, but feeling his skin stitch together and his scales growing back was strange and uncomfortable. However, it never hurt, and this time was no exception.

Bald patches on his body were once again covered with shiny scales, and new claws began to grow, pushing the old and broken ones away to the point they fell off of him harmlessly. It wasn't long before all that was left of his heroic day was a dull ache of muscle soreness, and a stuffy nose. "Danks Madter Haggai," he cooed happily, stretching out his wings and giving them a good flap to fly slowly around his lover, as if to prove to the man that his healing had worked.

He landed on Hakkai's uninjured shoulder and happily nuzzled their cheeks together with a sniffly, but delighted noise.

Hakkai sat back as Hakuryuu lifted his winged and did a couple laps around him. He was honestly surprise at how little it had taken out of him. It made him wonder how long they actually had been asleep. He was distracted by the perch and nuzzle though, and chuckle warmly as he nuzzled back and began giving Hakuryuu's new scales and the rest of him a good scratching over. He was glad he could indulge freely in the affections they both enjoyed so much again.

"Now then," he mentioned cheerily. "Our lovely hostess said to feel free to ask for whatever you like from them. I believe that includes any foods."

He peeked around the room in a secretive show as if to make sure no one could hear and loudly whispered an addition. "And it doesn't look like Goku will be around to steal whatever you choose."

Hakuryuu's tiny pink tongue stuck out slightly as Hakkai lightly scratched at his new scales. He arched into it with a low "Chu~~~" as bliss rolled over his small frame. It was one of his favorite things, and he made sure Hakkai new by offering the same in the form of tiny chewing on the man's arm, as if to return the favor. He basked in it for as long as it was given, his toes curling carefully around Hakkai's shoulder. Squeezing, but not stabbing him with his brand new claws.

When Hakkai looked around, Hakuryuu did too, then leaned in closer to hear the 'whisper' to share in the secret. "No Gogu?" He asked thoughtfully, and his stomach rumbled at the prospect. Even with Hakkai's help there was always a fight for food when Goku was around. He could eat as much as he wanted and at his own pace. He felt his mouth water and swallowed to keep himself from drooling. "Haguryuu had neber had his own hod pod before," he mentioned dreamily. The monkey always stole most of the meat. He rarely got more than the one piece Hakkai always plucked out for him. "Whad does Haggai wand?" He asked with another sniff. The stuffed nose was starting to get annoying, and he huffed though an open mouth, puffing out a small ploom of smoke.

Now that Hakuryuu was on his perch, Hakkai was free to roam around the room. "That's a good question," he hummed thoughtfully as he stood and walked toward the cupboards. "Perhaps some soup to warm my bones," he debated as he peeked into each one. "Or meat buns. It is a rare chance. Hmmm."

He found what he was looking for and pulled the metal bowl from its hiding place. Setting it on the counter and leaning it sideways, he offered his cheesiest smile to Hakuryuu. "Hop down here and blow your nose as hard as you can. Aim into the bowl."

"What do you think I should choose? We could always share two lovely things. Then we'll get as much as we want of both."

"Mmmm~" He cooed in delight at the thought of meat buns. Another thing he had to fight Goku for. He always got his fill thanks again to Hakkai, but it would be nice to eat them slow enough to savor the delightful taste without having the monkey drooling and staring at him longingly after he'd already eaten a dozen himself. He was pulled from his thoughts by a generous offer, and Hakuryuu hopped down as instructed. He faced the bowl and took a deep breath through his mouth, then pushed as hard as he could to blow it out through his nose. There was a few seconds of odd sounds of pure effort before his breath forced its way through his clogged nose.

Flames burned through the offending snot, shooting out into the metal bowl and thankfully destroying the mess that would have come with it otherwise. He did this twice, leaving his nose mostly dry, then gave another sniff, this time the air moving freely through his nostrils. He took in a deep breath through his nose, then let out a relieved sigh. "Thank you," he breathed, then shook his head to clear away any dizziness the effort had caused. "Meat buns and a hot pot to share!" He finally chirped in response, his voice still a little odd from the swelling in his sinuses, but much more understandable. "And hot tea please. Hakuryuu's throat is scratchy."

The dragon turned to face Hakkai and extended his wings in a habitual desire to be lifted up into his arms. Though, this time it would have to be just one. "Does Master Hakkai have to treat the others first? Hakuryuu will help."

Hakkai left the bowl on the counter, as it might be needed later. He bent down and coiled Hakuryuu into his cradling grasp with his good arm. "How about I order our food and we check on our friedns while they are making it?"

He moved them over to the couch and sat on the edge, having very little issue juggling Hakuryuu on his forearm while picking up the phone and putting to his ear. Once it connected, he made their order. Since they needed their strength, he decided to order, and Hakuryuu deserved his first and likely only ever lone hot pot, Hakkai ordered them each one. He also ordered them a single serving of meat buns and takoyaki. Warm, delicious nutritious food that sounded just perfect for their strength. Then he ordered three types of tea for them. Oolong, lemon chamomile, and peppermint.

He had a small exchange with the woman who was pleased to help but worried about the tea choices and explained it was likely just a stuffy nose from the storm and everything seemed fine. When she asked him if any of this was for him, he let her know that 'Master Hakuryuu' would be eating his fill of the order, alhough the second hot pot was for him unless Hakuryuu ended up wanting it, and Hakkai would be finishing what was left, as it was rude to waste food, and assured her he would let her know in the future which orders were for him. He then asked for a coffee for himself.

Once the call was over, he hung up and smiled down at his friend. "Well that's that. Shall we go?" Just as he asked, there was a knock at the door.

Hakuryuu nodded his head in agreement before cuddling himself into Hakkai's chest with delight. He was excited. Hot food, hot tea, and a day to himself and Hakkai once his friend's were cured, it was a dream come true! He only wished his master's arm weren't hurt, or that Hakkai had the ability to cure his own wounds. He listened to Hakkai order, and his tummy rumbled again in anticipation of the feast he was about to share, even more so when he was sure he'd get his very own portion of the hot pot all to himself! He wouldn't have minded sharing with Hakkai of course, but it was really exciting to have a meal just for him. Almost as exciting as the use of his new title. He couldn't help but puff up a little in Hakkai's arms.

The little dragon was just about to nod his head 'yes' when a knock came at the door and Goku's voice followed soon after, calling for Hakkai. Hakuryuu panicked, flapping his wings and flying out of Hakkai's hold to fret about. "He knows! How does Goku know!?"

Goku, on the other hand, had absolutely no idea food had been ordered, and his favorites no less, but even if he did, he wasn't in the mood to eat right now. He knocked again. "Hakkai?" He sounded worried. "Sanzo's arm looks really bad." And the stubborn jerk wouldn't let the doctor near him yesterday.

Hakkai smiled as he watched Hakuryuu flipp out at the sound of Goku's voice. He cause him and pulled him back into his cradling hild expertly with the one handle. He might have laughed, but didn't want to offend Goku. "Shh," he whispered secretively. "We mustn't tell him about the food. Once we heal Sanzo..." he squinted suspiciously at the door for a moment as he coiled playfully around his dragon before standing and placing on his kinder, gentler face for their friend.

He walked to the door. "Wpuld you mind opening the door for me Goku? I'm a bit indisposed at the moment. I'll do my best to try and get Sanzo to let me heal him, but unfortunately he is conscious so he has the right to refuse, as he usually does."

Goku popped the door open, looking up at the two of them. "Would it be better if we knocked him out?" The question was an innocent one. It made Hakkai laugh.

"Come Goku. We'll see what we can do. I suppose I can knock him out if I have to," he added with a wink.

Goku gained a bit of a smile, but it dropped pretty quickly. At least he realized what he'd said now. And it wasn't a long walk to Sanzo's room, though longer than he was used to from the VIP suite. His eyes landed on Gojyo's door as they passed it. He supposed they could check on him later. His head wound hardly needed healing since there was no concussion, but it would be polite to offer, and he was feeling fine.

Hakkai knocked firmly on Sanzo's door, noticing that Goku had stopped a ways back in the hallway and was just staring his way like a wanting puppy. It was for the best. They all knew it would go better the less of an audience the human had to showboat for. "Sanzo," he chirped. "Mind if I come in?" He didn't wait for an answer. Even if the man said no, Hakkai would have entered anyway. He was the only one who could do so without getting killed after all.
