How To Deliver Justice (with KiraMusani

Clara huffed, but less irate with Clair, than she had addressed the princess. "Aye, lass." She raised her eyebrow for effect, "But I still be wantin' a copy of th' results o' yer li'l experiment afore we leave for Dunwyn. An' yer still cookin' Sunday night." She tapped her open palm with a forefinger on her other hand, before going back down the steps, indicating where to put the copy of their results.

Ruby patted her chest as she took a few deep breaths. "R-right. Since we leave Monday, guess we best get cracking. Umm, what should I do?" They'd have four days. Hopefully enough time.

"Ideally we can finish tonight, I can't think of any need for a waiting period with this experiment, unless you think we need to wait for the potato to absorb some of the water or something?" She asked.

"Oh, actually before we start would you mind if I got changed into my work clothes? It's a bit silly but I find it easier to think in them" she asked.

Ruby raised an eyebrow. "Shouldn't we soak the two in different waters anyway? Actually, with using the metal, I guess the pertinent question should be will they be safe to eat after? Laird Clara seemed pretty adamant about not wasting if we can help it." She shook her head. "I don't mind, do you want Avenger or the doc while you change? I could get maybe the doc to see if eating after the experiment is an option. She'd know for sure."

"Oh yes, we definitely want at minimum three though, one for fresh water, one salt and one without any water. And as for eating, I don't see any reason they wouldn't be edible after, it's just metals" she explained.

"Hmm, I did eat the other potatoes that I used last time, I didn't even think about it but I suppose some metals can be toxic... Huh, we are just using like copper"

"As for changing, I am okay, I don't need help or anything anymore, I just wanted to make sure it wasn't like, rude or something for me to change" she asked.

Ruby blinked askance, as she wasn't sure Clair got her question. "Okay, I guess, but I'm still curious. I'll let you change and talk to Doctor Aurora about, y'know, poking potatoes with copper? It's copper you're using, erm, we're using on the potatoes, right?" Unfortunately, she didn't want to wait around for Clair's confirmation or correction, heading out the door to fetch Aurora from the parlour and her cross-stitching.

Clair looked back as Ruby clarified her point before leaving.
"Oh... right yeah that makes more sense" she said to herself as she realized her misunderstanding. Though after a moment of re-going through the conversation in her head she started to change, going from the fancier clothes she had for the dinner into an off white sleeveless shirt and green overalls that she kept unlatched. As well as a pair of brown gloves and red goggles used as protective eye ware when needed.

When Ruby came back and saw Clair's change of clothes, she let her eyes roam over Clair and bit her lower lip. Having not seen an inventor, or blacksmith for that matter, before, she let out a little whining hum in appreciation. Clearly, her desire for someone well below her station of royal, as long as there was love too, was the desire of this particular princess.

Aurora, looking between the two, cleared her throat. "Stop gawking, princess, and explain what was so fired important?"

"Right. Ummm, metal, uhh copper, potato bad uhhh..." She was clearly smitten.

Aurora rolled her eyes. Being a medical professional, how Clair was dressed didn't phase her. She looked at Clair. "What's she on about? Something about potatoes, metal and if they get metal poisoning?" She raised an eyebrow still lost as it wasn't explained correctly, and now Ruby was too awestruck by cuteness to be of any farther help.

"Hmm? Oh welcome back, and I think what she means is if we stick these copper sticks into potatoes for a few hours or something would they be safe to eat after, copper isn't poisonous is it? I swear it's been used as eating utensils before" she placed a hand to her chin as she grabbed one of the copper 'sticks' and showed it to her.

Aurora, looking at the metal, narrowed her eyes in concentration. One could almost see her processing what she was taught by books and Arden.

"You're not leaving the metal in them when you're cooking? I need to run a few more tests on blood samples with the, erm, I think Arden called it a microscope that you invented for us? Should the metal pieces be so thin, though? I don't see how they'd be a problem as long as you pull all the excess copper out, and cook the potatoes thoroughly. Raw potatoes without anything extra in them, don't exactly have a very pleasant taste."

Clair watched, not realizing she would get the same look as she was thinking about her inventions.
"No we would remove the copper before cooking, I don't want to ruin the sticks, also we can cook them for sure, umm, though I honestly don't mind eating them raw I used to all the time as I worked, though I suppose it was more of a means to an end then an enjoyable meal" she admitted speaking out loud to herself.

"Anyway, I think microscope is a great name. And yeah since that was what I used for the initial experiment and that isn't what we are wanting to test this time around, we want to test if having them in water, or salt water, effect the results."

Aurora shrugged. "The good lieutenant. My medical mentor named it. We both agreed this other invention," she pointed to what we would nowadays call a stethoscope draped around her neck, "should just be described, right now. Especially since we can listen to everything going on inside the body. He wants to use the initials BP when referring to that cuff, though, which I thought was idiotic. It monitors blood pressure, both on the beat, and in-between beats. It should have a name, not initials. Enough ranting, if you girls need me for anything, I'm two doors down, looking at samples." With that, she left.

Ruby approached, trying not to look directly at how Clair looked in her outfit. "What do you want me to do, Clair?"

"Right, well first we want to measure out some water in containers for the potatoes, then measure and add the amount of salt we add to it. Incase it does change we can also see if more salt results in a more extreme change of that result or not." She explained.

"Of course we should also take notes on everything we do and what we observe. As well as we can make little guesses to what we think will happen. For example I deduce the salt water may increase its effectiveness and the water won't have an effect, what about you?" Clair asked as she started to sort potatoes.

Ruby blinked. "Uhhh, I think there will be a reaction of some kind. I don't know about here in England, but in Cordonia, I saw lightning strike a pond... Poor ducks didn't stand a chance... And that cracking boom, I was scared the rest of the day. I think the normal just damp potato which we're using for what normally happens (the control, Ruby, get with the program!) or maybe the fully dry one, will have the less effect. That's just what I've seen in nature." She had been to the Mediterranean Sea before, but hadn't seen lightning strike the water. "I wish I knew how much salt the sea had in it, that way we could have the right amount of salt to the water, y'know? I think we should guess only a teaspoon?"

Clair wrote down what Ruby said in her notes.
"Huh, lightning... Interesting... But anyway, I plan to just, use regular water and mix in salt so we know how much salt we are dealing with." She explained.

"Oh and the dry one is the control, to help us control for changes that are unexpected or unaccounted for." She added.

"I am also making a note to circle back around to lighting too, imagine if we could somehow harness it's power!" She declared.

Ruby nodded. "That's what I'm saying, mix a teaspoon in to one of the waters to act like the sea. Either the English Sea down south of us, now, or the Mediterranean Sea down south of Cordonia. We need something to represent the ocean, right?"

Ruby's eyes bugged out of her head, big as saucers. "That one strike cooked a whole flock of ducks! On a pond! I'm not messing with that!"

"Exactly, though it's less to represent the ocean and more so seeing if salt in water help more or hinders more to the effect of energy conversion from potato to metal" she explained.

"Well we won't be the ones getting hit by it, ideally... Besides if we did who knows what we could do with it!" She exclaimed excitedly.
"See if you weren't here I would honestly now put the potatoes idea on the back and focus on the lightning idea" she admitted.
"Honestly probably not the best trait of mine" she rubbed the back of her head embarrassed.

Ruby shook her head. "I kinda want you to be alive for a while. All those ducks were dead after the lightning strike." She took a breath. "Have you stirred a teaspoon of salt in one of those containers yet? I could at least prepare our ocean for you. I'll let you put the copper into the potatoes, I'm not sure exactly what you want to do there."

"Yeah that works, just write down what you do after doing it, I like to track my steps" she nodded.
"And I too would rather be alive for a while, can't do much experiments if I am dead can I?" She smiled.
"Okay I'll prep the potatoes and you prepare the waters." She agreed.

"It's a shame our sample size is so small since of the limited amount of potatoes we have, more tests would aquire better results." She admitted as she started on her portion of the work.

Ruby made a face. "Good point. Doctor Aurora drew a lot of blood for her tests... Bloody vampire. Cordonia medicine hasn't bled us for about a decade. Still use leeches too, occasionally, but still. A knife poking our fingers and squeezing blood into a vial? Bloody hurts like hell!"

She stirred in the salt, and mentioned it on the paper Clair had for "saltwater experiment" and stepped out of the way. "How are we going to do the fully dry one? I mean just having the one with it's natural juices works for the one I thought was going to be our control, you said?" This is the one Clair mentioned she did before and got some energy from. The salt water one would indeed, as Clair predicted, be the best, although the fresh water would do decent, because of what Ruby saw with the pond. Dry would do nothing.

"hmm, perhaps I could devise a better way of taking blood, maybe something like my dropper, but perhaps with some sort of price to pierce skin" she said out loud as she thought of the future experiment while also working on their current one.

As they experiment went on she got Ruby to take most of the notes, ending up having a system where she handled the devices and narrated what to write to Ruby. After a few more tests and trials they would discover their new energy source was best with salt water and would increase with more potatoes and the more salt that was added.

"It looks like one of our hypotheses was correct, our experiments show that the salt does help with creating more of this energy, and wood seems to disrupt the flow unlike the copper, though even the different metals have varying effects, it's fascinating." She smiled happy with their progress.
"I wonder if we found a way to focus the energy we could use the carbonized paper glow to produce more light and replace candle light" she added hand on her chin, getting grease on her face.

Ruby took about as meticulous notes as Clair would have, but they still got done quicker than they would have if Clair stopped to write down the notes.

"I thought we were doing this for the invention for my mother and father so they didn't have to send runners and wait half a day for the return message?" She flopped face up on the bed, shaking her hands, but especially her right. "I got some major hand cramps, and my right hand also really hurts." She had just done more writing than she ever had straight through, even with her royal tutor's requests of her. "Doc Aurora is here for the rest of the season. Mother is only coming for the holidays, sweetie." She added, not realizing her desire for Clair was sneaking out again.

Clair slapped her palm to her forehead.
"Right! Focus Clair!" She declared.

"We are, we may need an energy source to power their communication device. Because I have a few ideas how this can facilitate in communication. But.. if we had a thunder storm, I could also like to mess around with that, but I don't think we will have kind of luck." She admitted.

"Want to break now or try part two, now that we have the best energy providing method with the potatoes, though we differently want something better then them for the real thing. But one step at a time." She asked.

"Well, Laird Clara DID give us the whole weekend... Or at least until we have to cook dinner on Sunday? I definitely need a break since my writing hand is cramping." She stayed face up on the bed.

"Right, sorry I get excited, you take a break and I'll mess around a bit, nothing serious, maybe we can umm, chat and stuff as you relax and I work" she offered as she took a seat at her desk.

Ruby pulled herself up on her elbows just as Calla Avenger came in to ask something, Ruby not seeing her at the door. "Awww, I was hoping you'd join me, and relax, too..."

Calla cleared her throat, blushing, "Uhh, I was just wondering about those pellets for distraction purposes? Or that grappling line? But that's okay, I can come back later... As long as it's this weekend, as I want to test them here in Scotland. Laird Clara might want to see how all three distractions, and the grappling line work. I mean, I can't exactly be vigilante anymore. Father might skin me."
