“My friend?” She echoed, trying to remember that night, but it was a bit of a blur at the moment. It then occurred to her it was probably Akatsuru- then did that mean she was alive?

She nodded quickly, "She has really pretty red hair!" Akatsuru. "Aoi-san wouldn't let her in while you recovered, but she's staying in one of the spare rooms!"

Ebisu sat up with some effort, wincing at the pain in her side. “Can I see her now? Is she still here?”

"You really should rest more." Aoi said as she came in, Harue peeking in from the door. "How do you feel? We were told there was poison but Kochou-sama didn't find anything in your blood."

“Ah, I feel much batter than I did before.” Ebisu said, which was the truth, but she was still in a good amount of pain. “And as for the poison.. The little demon girl- Kamado’s younger sister -I believe she neutralized it.”

Aoi made a noise of interest as she looked over Ebisu's wrappings, "That's good. You're more well off than Uzui-sama...he lost his arm and his eye in the fight, and he's said to be retiring."

Ebisu felt her heart grow heavy at the news. “Is that so?” She said softly. “I’m glad to hear he still lives though.”

She nodded in agreement before a ruckus caught her attention. Harue was gone from the door, but his panicked voice cpuld be heard easily.
"M-Miss, please, she's still being examined!"
"If she's awake, I want to see her!" That was definitely Akatsuru's voice, and boy was she upset.

Ebisu perked up at the sound of Akatsuru’s voice, looking Aoi. “Let her in, would you please? I promise I’ll stay in bed.” She requested, hands pressed together in front of her, soft smile on her face.

Aoi gave her notorious pout before nodding.
"Alright, fine. But do not move an inch." She said before standing and moving outside. Not soon after, Akatsuru came in, her face very plain without her makeup and her hair hanging down her back.
"Ebi!" She gasped and moved over quickly, hugging her tightly.

Ebisu grunted and winced in pain when she was held too tight, wheezing a bit. “I didn’t expect to find you here at the mansion.” She said, hugging her back.

"I wasn't about to just leave you! You promised!" She said, pulling back when she realized she was being too rough, "Daijoubu?" She pet her cheek gently, frowning worriedly.

“I’m fine, just a bit sore is all.” She said, and though she was still hurt badly, she would be fine in time. “I guess I just figured I’d come find you after everything.”

"How romantic of you.." She said gently, a soft smile on her lips, "The district is all but destroyed, there's nothing for me there now." Her smile turned sad, "You wouldn't be able to find me, even if you wanted to. I'll have to go to another province to find a new place of work.."

Ebisu felt a wave of sadness wash over her- that’s right Akatsuru didn’t get to walk away when the job was done like she did. “Let me buy out your debt, whatever it is, I’ll pay it.”

"It's a large sum, Ebi..." She frowned, "Where would I stay, even if you did pay? Your friends probably wouldn't want some whore trotting about..."

Ebisu shook her head. “However much it is, I can pay it- and I can ask master Kocho to give you a job here, one you can be proud of.”

Ebisu looked down at her hands. “That.. I cannot guarantee..” She said honestly. “Once I recover from my injuries, I must continue on my mission, I won’t be returning here a while, but if you’re here, I would at every chance I had.”

"Ah, I see.." She muttered, "Well, I suppose that's better than never seeing you again, hm? Would I look lovely with the butterflies in my hair?"

"Then I would very much like to meet this Kochou. I'm quite the quick study." She said, moving to sit better at Ebisu's side, "Let me know if you desire anything, I'll get it for you.."

“I don’t know when Master Kocho will return.. but when she does I’ll make the request myself.” She said, shaking her head at the offer. “I’m alright for now, thank you.”

"If you're going to stay, make sure she doesn't leave that bed." Aoi instructed. Akatsuru smiled softly and nodded.
"You have my word."

“I’m not going to be going anywhere, you don’t have to worry about something like that from me.” Ebisu said with a sigh. “My body is too sore to be running about.”
