homura (DarkMudkip/Jikkah)

Ebisu knew this wasn’t the case, but dragging civilians into the issue would only make things messy.

“I thought you didn’t find her that pretty.” Ebisu pointed out, rubbing her thumb gently over the back of Akatsuru’s hand.

“I have heard she’s a bit of a tyrant..” Just like Yoshinori. Most demons were temperamental creatures she had found.

"It's a wonder men bed her at all." She mused before turning to her daily oils, "What today, Ebi? The wisteria again? You're fond of that one~"

She smiled softly and nodded as she began her usual beauty ritual, combing the oil through her hair, "Since I started using this more, I've lost a lot of clients.." She noted absently, "Perhaps the wisteria offends them...?"

Ebisu frowned softly at her comment, sitting and watching her work. “I’m sure that’s not the case.. Men are fickle, who knows what goes through their heads..”

Ebisu made a noise and rested her head against Akatsuru’s back. “I don’t see that as such a terrible thing…”

“They wouldn’t do such a thing, you’re still our most popular oiran..” She said softly, closing her eyes and enjoying just sitting there with Akatsuru.

“Of course, of course, forgive me..” Ebisu gently wrapped her arms around Akatsuru’s waist, holding her gently as they sat together.

Ebisu held her, enjoying the tender moment in silence. They only got the day to themselves, as when night came was when they had to work.

Yoshinori was back, of course he was. He never left. He never got out of hand with Ebisu like he had the first night, but sometimes when he drank too much, he beat on her.

He was smart enough to not hit her in the face anymore, only ever hitting her in the gut or sides, but Ebisu never screamed. Not once did she call for help or tell for him to stop, enduring his beatings silently.

Would he have done this to Akatsuru could he afford her? Would the woman she loved have endured such drunken abuses? It made her angry to think about.

She never showed any fear as he punched her and tossed her around by her hair, trying to keep her head down and her mouth shut to draw attention. She would endure this as long as she had to if it meant Akatsuru never had to.

She had been "suggested" to grow out her hair to look more feminine. She couldn't wait to take his head. Tengen had returned her reports, telling her to keep her head down for now. There was one night, Akatsuru convinced the madam to allow her the night off and took Ebisu with her to have a moment of peace.
"We should find you a comb, Ebi. Maybe some pins, too." She said gently.

Ebisu looked a little nervous to be out on the town, but was grateful for the night off. “Ah, I don’t think my hair is quite long enough for pins yet..” She said touching her hair, which had grown out a bit, but not very much.
