Pokemon Witch Saga: Dragons & Giants | Plot & Character Creation

Ah yes, you all were very young when it happened. Very well, I will tell you the tale.

A long time ago, us Witches lived in harmony with the other humans in a distant land known as the Unix Region. However, one day, their Emperors and Kings decreed our powers illegal, and we were banished from civilization. We continued to live our lives in the forests and woods, until one day, disaster struck.

A great evil loomed over our lands, terrorizing the humans who discarded us. We believed that their problems were theirs, until the children of these people ventured into our territories, begging for us to help. Taking pity on the young ones who were not as stubborn or discriminative as their forefathers, we decided to aid them. Many of our strongest witches ventured into battle. They ordered some of the other elders, myself included, to take the young ones to the original homelands of the Witches where we will live and prosper away from danger - the Archipelago of Giants. It wasn't a decision I liked, but I had to, to ensure our survival.

When we arrived, be it by sea or sky, we divided ourselves based on the energies that these islands emitted to make us stronger - strong enough to have the edge against any threat that may come to us. These islands were the Sandstorm Island, Blizzard Island, Metal Ore Island, Thunderbolt Island, and of course - Dragon's Maw Island, where we stand now.

Those who came to Dragon's Maw Island did not expect it to already be inhabited by people with an affinity for Dragon-type Pokemon. They were known by many names, but called themselves the Vikings, due to them constantly sailing out. Over here on Dragon's Maw Island, the Vikings live with dragons Pokemon, and the young ones even train alongside them in the Academy.

Around them, we make sure to blend in by taking the forms of Pokemon - perhaps wild, perhaps a pet.

Either way, this is our life on Dragon's Maw island now.

Hello all, welcome to Pokemon Witch Saga: Dragons & Giants!

A good warning: This will contain Scarlet & Violet Pokemon. Avoid if you want to avoid ruining any experience you want. Obviously, we won't have story spoilers for those.

This roleplay is about Witches, Vikings, Crusaders and Pokemon. And all that. I guess.

Terminology & Types of Characters

In their original lands, Unix, the populace began to call them Witches and it stuck. There was a time in Unix when Witches were celebrated, until they weren't. Apparently, in the Giant Archipelago, Witches were formerly known as Berserkers, as the first Witches wore the skins of Pokemon to transform into them. In fact, the Vikings use the term Berserker over Witch when telling tales about them.

Witches have the ability to turn to and from Pokemon. To do that, they will require a catalyst in the form of a part of the Pokemon, its equipment or something, said to contain the Pokemon's energy or even spirit. Of course, they need more than that, like proper training, focus, etc, but we'll get to that when we get to that. Those who have descended from prior Witches will have an easier time learning the arts, but one of a more diluted bloodline or no Witch lineage at all will take longer, but it's not impossible.

Regarding catalysts:
If a Witch has used it to transform enough times (by default, all starting Transformations are this), they can transform into that form without the catalyst, with the drawback of the Pokemon form being more feral and instinctive due to the lack of catalyst to properly anchor the energies to the body. This feral, instinctive nature can be trained and tamed.

All in all, Catalysts are required to attain Transformations, but are not neccessary to keep them.

Witches can use weaker versions of their Pokemon form's moves in their human forms, and can even partially sprout or morph traits of their Pokemon forms to do so. More experienced witches can tap into the shrinking capabilities of Pokemon to alter their size in human form, but only between the sizes of their human forms and Pokemon forms. Some witches do this to appear to be tiny little fairies.

When Witches fully transform, their catalyst merges with them and their clothes do not adapt, which is why most witches prefer to wear temporary clothing or no clothing at all, or wear the skins that are to be used as catalysts.

While there are some side effects of becoming more Pokemon-like in behaviour by transforming into one too often, most witches do not see it as one due to their oneness with nature. It is likely that generations of witches passing on their traits have allowed them to adapt to this side effect to some extent, making their human side and Pokemon side more in harmony.

Witches can potentially gain more than one Pokemon form. However, due to them being synchronized to one already, to gain a second one, this second Pokemon needs to share a type with the first, a third must share at least one type with the other two, so on.

By default, Witches live for 300 years, still looking relatively youthful in the 100s. They can potentially live longer if their Pokemon forms have that capability. A witch is considered an elder at 100 years.

Witches are mostly female, with males being rare to the point where a term for them hasn't been coined yet.

They are seafarers, but this particular group has settled on Dragon's Maw Island. Apparently, they used to not be fond of dragon Pokemon, until a hero taught them that they could live in harmony with them as friends, so they did.

A good group of people sent by the Emperor of Unix. Their current mission is to rid of the Witches, as it is believed that they are behind the evil that looms over their now destroyed lands. They travel by sea, in an attempt to find them.

Aesthetics-wise, they resemble knights, Paladins and whatnot.

Apparently they have spies on Dragon's Maw Island who have found out that witches of the Dragon-type live there, so they will be prepared for that.

Allowed & Disallowed Pokemon

You must be wondering what's allowed or not - at least at the start, anyways. This refers to what you can start with. You might be able to acquire some of these later.

Legendaries & Mythicals - Nope.

Ultra Beasts - Will be limited. Ask before claiming one.

Paradox Pokemon - No.

'Modern' Pokemon - Pokemon that appear to be modern & manmade in nature. If there is evidence that these Pokemon have lived for eons, such as Magnemite line living since the Kalos War or the Voltorb line existing in folktale and legends of the past (granted this applies to the wooden Hisui form, so use that), then by all means. Koffing is allowed since it seems to thrive in volcanoes but its buddy Grimer who relies on modern pollution to survive is not, the obvious ones like Porygon line, Castform, etc are out. Just ask to check first.

Fossil Pokemon - Still debating. As Witch Transformations, they're allowed.

Everything Else - Should be fine.

Pokemon Transformations:
Only applies for Witches, see template below and insert here however many times appropriate. While less experienced or younger Witches will only be allowed one transformation to start with, older Witches can have two or three, as long as any one transformation shares at least one type with another.
If you have both Transformations & a Team, you can only start with up to 4 Pokemon between both.

Pokemon Team:
While everyone's allowed to have one, it's reccommended that Witches have a smaller one or even no team at all, since they can already turn into Pokemon. Also I'm gating this to three Pokemon maximum. I'll allow more with justification e.g. they're a housepet that mostly stays at home, they're the equivalent of your sheepdog, etc. Again, see template below and insert here however many times appropriate.

Witch - Elder Vandellia and her brats

Vandellia.png

Name:
Vandellia

Gender:
Female

Age:
17 - 18 (Physically, as she claims anyways); 230 (true)

Role in Story:
Witch, Viking or Crusader?

Appearance:
Elder Vandellia is petite, having no rack to her name and reaching a bit below 1.4 metres tall - something she has a pretty heavy complex about. She doesn't wear anything, but that's fine - she prefers to be in the form of a collosal Dondozo most of the time, since no one will call her small then.

Personality:
Elder Vandellia doesn't have the best first impressions. She's strict and a bit cold at first glance, and speaks very formally - the exception to that being when she's really fustrated or angry, which happens a lot. She actually does care for others and the young ones, teaching them what she knows.

History:
Vandellia is one of the elders among the Witches who cared for young ones, particularly the ones who specialized in the art of the Water-type.

Before her days as a strict teacher, Vandellia was a young woman who blended in with the human populace of the Unix region town of Fornia, curious to learn more about them while she worked at her own Potions Shop. She would always meet an old Dondozo by a lake, and she enjoyed playing with it. She didn't have many people skills, so she confided with this Dondozo as her one and only friend.

This Dondozo was getting old and sickly, upsetting Vandellia. As the Dondozo gave its last breath, Vandellia knew what she had to do. She consumed its flesh, and before considering throwing its bones back into the waters due to a belief among Witches that the flesh will grow back - she remembered that it did not apply to those who had died of old age. As such, she dragged its skeleton to a blacksmith and begged him to integrate its bones into a great iron sword.

And thus, Vandellia obtained the great Sashimi Knife. Dondozo, for some reason, carried wooden planks with them to use one of their moves - Order Up, and this Dondozo's was pretty huge, so she cut a portion of this plank to become the sword's sheathe. She was able to use the sword and sheathe to channel the power of the dead Dondozo, thus granting her the ability to turn into one.

At some point, the Witches, Vandellia included, were forced to flee civilization and retreat into the forests and wildnerness.

From then on, she served as a mentor figure to young Witches, particularly those who specialized in the Water typing. She was like an unbeaten Master of the seas - not that she really cared about being beaten, beyond the idea that that would mean she had too little to teach.

Pokemon Transformations:
Menu_SV_Dondozo.png

Species: Dondozo
Ability: Unaware
Catalyst: Her signature sword, the Sashimi Knife, and its sheathe, as explained in her History.
Basculegion%20Female.png

Species: Basculegion
Ability: Adaptability
Catalyst: She does not have a permanent Catalyst for this, and thus does not use it often due to how reckless it can be without one. Due to Basculegion's nature as a Pokemon formed by the coalition and cladding of various White-Striped Basculin spirits instead of a specific one, she can use any skeleton of any White-striped Basculin as a catalyst. She usually does this on the fly by finding one, cooking it and eating it. She obligates herself to throw the skeleton back into the water at the end, however, so that the Basculin can come back to life. (or so the myth says)

Other Information:
As a Dondozo grouped with the Tatsugiri Trio, all four of them are paired with a human who's studying at the island's Dragon Training Academy. This is allowed, somehow.
Elder Vandellia has much familiarity about the other Elders, and visits them from time to time provided they're living on Dragon's Maw. She does visit the ones off-island too sometimes.

Grouped together in one application because they're basically always together. They're not meant to be very strong (at the start at least).
If anyone wishes to portray any of them or make their own Tatsugiri Witch, I'd love to lend one or two of them to you.

Witch - Lady Alice

Personality:

History:

Pokemon Transformations:
Applin.png

Species: Applin
Ability: Ripen
Defense Curl | Recycle | Rollout | Sucker Punch
Catalyst: An apple - she needs one to transform back, too. If she changes her apple as an Applin, that new apple becomes her new catalyst. Transforming into an Applin without an apple causes her Applin form to be apple-less, where her animalistic instincts will drive her to immediately find an apple.

Other Information:
She's partnered with a human at the island's Dragon Training Academy. Whoever this is is very unfortunate.

Notes: This is a strange Dragon-type Pokemon (?) that has been brought to life from a fossil by the strong dragon energies of this land as some kind of ghost of the past. It will return to its fossilized state if it leaves the premises of Dragon's Maw Island, or if the dragon energies of Dragon's Maw Island are redirected. It appears incomplete, and it seems that it seeks to be a complete Pokemon.

Name:
Shay Langford

Gender:
Male

Age:
20

Role in Story:
Crusader

Appearance:
In case the picture is insufficient.

Personality:
Quiet and observant while with other people around, keeping a relaxed and calm facade, while in actuality he has trouble talking to people. He would go out of his way to avoid conversations and interactions ever since he was a kid, making him quite good at sneaking away and hiding from people.

History:
Growing up he would avoid kids his own age and the adults who were supposed to look after him, never having a good relationship with anyone, due to fear and anxiety he would feel when he gets too close to someone. However, he found solace and comfort with pokemon around the surrounding area, but there was one in particular who was especially fond of him. A Zorua, a pokemon that is considered rare and never before seen in the area, befriended the young Shay and they were close ever since, eventually giving him the name Kit.

One day, however, Shay would wake up to the sound of screaming and crashing, looking outside to see fire everywhere in the forest that Kit and other pokemon resided. Without thinking, he rushed into the forest, looking for his friend and helping trapped pokemon along the way. Eventually, he would find Kit helping a trapped Ditto under a fallen tree branch. They were able to get free the ditto and carry it to safety, but for one moment, when they looked up to the sky, they saw witches. Without knowing any of the details, the young boy's mind was filled with rage as it led to one conclusion, that the witches were the ones who hurt the people around them, and more importantly to him, were taking away his friend's home.

Once everything was settled, his belief that the witches were involved only grew when other people came to the same conclusion as he did, and he would help out in any way he could, eventually signing up as a spy.

Ability: Illusion
Moves: Night slash | Agility| Shadow ball| Crunch
PngItem_1626628.png
Nickname: Blobby
Species: Ditto
Genderless
Ability: Imposter
Moves: Transform
Other Information:
Outside of missions, Shay would sometimes use Blobby as a body double and a stand-in for meetings or just general interactions. Usually, Blobby's derpy face would be a dead giveaway that it was an imposter, but thanks to Shay's usual attire which consists of a hood, his Ditto's cover is rarely ever blown.

Name:
Lance Windgate

Gender:
Male

Age:
23

Role in Story:
Crusader

Appearance:
In case the picture is insufficient.

Personality:
Simple Minded, outgoing, optimistic,

History:
He was born into a noble family who had a specialty in the food distribution and trading business, and Lance was thought to be the one to take over eventually. Unfortunately, Lance hardly had any interest in taking over the family business. He probably would've changed his mind eventually if it wasn't for his uncle, a general that serves under the emperor. Every time he would visit the Windgate household, he would tell stories of great battles he fought in, which fascinated the mind of the young Lance. His fascination with becoming a soldier and one day a general like his uncle grew to where he begged his parents to let him go to the soldier academy. Initially, they refused to allow their son's request, in fear of him being hurt, or even killed. However, the young man refused to take no for an answer, and eventually, he managed to get his parents to relent and eventually gave in to his requests to send him to a training academy.

When Lance left for the academy, that would be the last time he would see his family, as shortly after his arrival, the Great Evil struck the land and created chaos for all the humans. He and the other students eventually got to safety, and for days on, they stayed in a small room, feeling the quaking shakes of what was happening outside, refusing to go out in fear of what is out there. For those few days, Lance stepped up and comforted all of them, being the one to initiate conversations, make dumb jokes, and tell everyone that it'll be alright, just in hopes that this will keep everyone calm. Eventually, they heard a knock on the other side, where they were told that it was safe to come out, but news struck all of them as they saw the destruction caused by the great evil.

Lance was told the horrible news that his home was destroyed, but since no bodies were found, his optimism kicked in, this time, for his own sake, he believed that his parents could've escaped. He accepted this as fact as he grew up, eventually becoming one of the promising knights that were sent out in search of the ones they believed caused their people and his parents great harm.

Pokemon Team:

PngItem_3353476.png
Nickname: Pierce
Species: Bisharp
Gender: male
Ability: Inner focus
Metal sound | Metal burst | Night slash | Guillotine

Other Information:
Bisharps are one of the more common pokemon given to soldiers, however, the one that Lance seems to be assigned with appears to be self-reliant, and prefers to do things it's own way rather than being told what to do.

Name:
Danny

Gender:
Male

Age:
16

Role in Story:
Viking

Appearance:
In case the picture is insufficient.

Personality:
???

History:
As one of the original children that were escorted to Dragon Maw Island by the witches, he had a rough time adjusting to what would be his new home, as aside from the other children who were with him during the tragedy, he hardly knew anyone else. Luckily for him, however, the people already inhabiting the island were welcoming, making him extremely grateful for their generosity. As years went by, he grew comfortable around everyone, being someone who is incredibly open, friendly, and not afraid to share his thoughts and feelings, although this did make him easy to read. To repay the kindness and generosity he received, he was determined to treat everyone the same, helping out those in need even though he didn't need to, which did make him quite popular amongst the people living there.

He currently attends the academy, and although his grades are definitely something he should work on, he has a natural talent when it comes to taking care of the pokemon. A couple of years ago, he was given the special task to take care of an egg. At first, he was overly cautious with the task at hand and afraid to leave it alone at any point, he practically brought it everywhere with him, even in class he would be seen keeping the egg on his lap. Eventually, that egg would hatch into a deino, and those two became close partners ever since.

Raising the young deino wasn't easy, especially when its species has a tendency to bite everything it encounters, but after a while, it pretty much bit half the people he knew, but it seemed to calm down afterward and had a chance to get used to its surroundings.

Pokemon Team:
PngItem_3875877.png
Nickname:
Species: Deino
Gender: Female
Ability: Hustle
Bite | Roar | Headbutt | Dragon Pulse

Other Information:
Deino has somewhat of a jealousy complex, outside of the witches and a few people and pokemon, if it noticed Danny with someone that it doesn't know or isn't close with, it would charge into them in an attempt to headbutt them away from Danny. Luckily, Danny is able to catch or hold back Deino before it could complete it's attack, well, most of the time...

Edited some things in the first post:

Abolished 4 move limit in lieu of games allowing you to 'remember' any previously learned moves via the menu option instead of using an NPC.
A little thing as to what Pokemon are allowed. Not very useful.
