Magical attraction

Caleb smiled nodding feeling the soft chill that ran up his spine as she touched him. It was more then just the reaction that he would normally have to a girls touch. There was something deeper, a connection almost that he couldnâ??t explain. â??Ok let me get them.â? He began to measure out the ingredients again but he had to admit that having her standing so close was a little distracting especially now with her long red hair starting to unravel from its braid. He finished measuring out with only one slip up but nothing big enough to make a difference. â??Ok then what now?â?

She smiled and placed her hands on his, moving them to put the ingredients into the cauldron one at a time. She smiled sweetly and waited for a moment, leaving her hand there. To be honest, she didn't want to not touch him. Sophie was getting very comfortable with the chill she always got from touching him. "Okay...go ahead and add the last ingredient...and pray that it will work this time." She smiled encouragingly at him.

He smiled moving his hand with hers but his focus was on the soft touch of her fur on the back on his hand. He swallowed to prevent a growl of pleasure coming from his lips as the tingle increased as they worked alchemy. The fur at the back of his neck rustled slightly standing up on end at her closeness. As they reached the last item he wasnâ??t focused on the alchemy anymore it was just this fox that had his attention. He leaned over gently nuzzling at her ear as he let the last ingredient fall. The alchemy mixture was perfectâ?¦ but he didnâ??t notice.

She was trying hard to ignore the fact that she was touching him, but it wasn't really working, especially since he kept nuzzling her ears. She shivered and stood back, smelling the rose aroma that she had wanted from him. "Huh...we did the same thing...but somehow it came out differently..." She looked up at him, slowly letting her hands drop from his. She was really liking his nuzzling, but she didn't want to admit it, for fear of it turning against her...especially with some of the girls in his "entourage".

Caleb was about to follow her and continue nuzzling not wanting to lose the connection, then her words sunk in. â??We huh? What?!â? he turned back to the alchemy kit as was shocked to see and smell the soft vapor of a rose rising up from it. He was overjoyed and was about to turn and kiss Sophie when the door to the common room opened and two of Calebâ??s â??friendsâ?? came in.

They took one look at the pair and the alchemy kit and instantly started laughing. â??Watch out Tom, Caleb is doing Alchemy we had better go warn the headmaster that we might need to evacuate the grounds.â? By this time the two of them were just about rolling on the floor thinking it was the greatest thing in the world. Caleb just glared at them for a moment before turning his head his ears dropping down flattening against his head.

Sophie kinda hid behind him, not really wanting them to see her there. But just hearing them laugh at her new friend made her sad, and she didn't know what to do. Finally, she gave up and stepped out from behind him. "Leave him alone! He can actually do alchemy. He did this!" She pointed toward the cauldron that was still spewing the gentle smell. Her tail was tucked between her legs and her own ears were flattened back. She didn't like his friends teasing him like that...though she didn't care if they picked on her. She was used to it after all.

Caleb was used to it too that is one reason that he never did alchemy out where he could be seen. Because the guys knew better then to tease him when he wasnâ??t doing it but when he had his alchemy set out they couldnâ??t help but tease him. When Sophie moved around from behind him and defend him very eloquently the guys jaws about dropped seeing a pretty young fox, then they recognized her. They laughed, â??what a pair! The fox that canâ??t use her wand and the wolf that canâ??t use his alchemy, both a disgrace to their families.â? The two were laughing so hard that they never saw Caleb move, he was suddenly behind them both wand out and sticking in their backs. His voice was calm and soft with a heavy undertone of menace in it, â??And you two are about to become toads if you donâ??t just hurry about your business.â? They knew he could do it and they both just nodded and quickly rushed up the stairs toward the dormatories but one of them made the mistake of letting out one more laugh in ear shot of Caleb, instantly two small seeking sparks were spat from his raven wand and a moment later there were two shouts down the Stairs, â??Curse you Caleb Deâ??jer!â?

It didn’t seem possible for her ears to flatten back any more than they already were, but they did. She didn’t really have a way to defend them both. Fortunately, she didn’t have to. She watched her new friend slip from where he had stood next to her, only to step behind the boys and point his wands into their backs. She didn’t know what she did to deserve his defense anyway, but she was grateful for it. She had never seen anyone move that fast in her life, and she tried so hard not to laugh. But, of course, the boys let the joke go too far, and laughed for her. Then things just go fun. She watched Caleb send the seeking sparks after them, and their curses floated down to her ears. With that, she started laughing, almost uncontrollably, leaning against the wolf for support. “Thank you, Caleb...for that...” Of course, she was about to lean in to kiss him, but it was then that several more people filtered in, all laughing and joking around. And it was mostly girls. She stood up straight and moved so that Caleb stood between her and them, and she whispered softly, “Do you mind helping me with my wand now?”

He smiled at her as she thanked him and felt her leaning closer; he knew where this was leading and wanted it to. Then of course a large number of his house had to show up and ruin the moment. He smiled nodding at her ignoring the group his only focus was Sophie; this didnâ??t sit well with some of the girls in the group especially one. Caleb took Sophieâ??s hand and led her back out the door and down toward the quad not even noticing the fumes of anger rising from a raven haired she wolf.

Sophie smiled sweetly and followed him out, looking down at the ground so she wouldn't make eye contact with any of the girls that had just come in. It would not be good for her if she and Caleb had progressed any more than just a light touch...and their hands laced together like this. Once they were out on the quad, she made sure they were far enough away from any trees or the building itself so she hopefully wouldn't cause too much damage to anyone or anything except herself...hopefully. "So...what spell should I start with...you've already seen what happens when I do a spell..."

The quad was deserted right now but Caleb knew that it wasnâ??t going to last long so they needed to hurry. He gently led her out a bit farther hoping that no one would notice them at least not right off. â??I know I have seen them however just like me and to potions I donâ??t know why it doesnâ??t work, your timing and execution are better then mine.â? He sighed shrugging and then turning to her, â??start with levitation just a leaf or something simple like that.â?

The quad was kept really clean, and there were no leaves on the ground, at least not anywhere near her. Of course, there was one on a lower branch, so she managed to jump up and get it, setting it on the ground in front of her. "O-okay...here goes then..." She waved her wand like she had been taught from the time she could speak, praying that it would work. She closed her eyes, waiting for an explosion or something...until she felt something cold brush against her nose. She opened her eyes and looked around. The leaf hadn't moved at all, only turned to ice...and it was snowing without any clouds around. She blushed under her fur, and looked at him sheepishly, not knowing what to say to him.

Caleb followed every one of her movement and was smiling knowing that it would workâ?¦then the snow started and the leaf turned to ice. There was no logical way that this should have happened the movements for ice spells and the levitation spell were drastically different. He just blinked for a moment seeing that the snow was just localized not too far out just a five foot area around them.

Pulling his dragon tooth wand he muttered a short spell and with a flick of his wand cast an all purpose canceling spell. The snow stopped and the leaf began to thaw quickly. â??That is just so weird the motions for those spells are almost exact opposites how did that happen?â?

She shrugged and blushed, the red showing through the white on her muzzle. For the time being, she was glad she was a fox, and her fur hid most of it. "Umm...I don't really know how that worked...If I did, it probably would have had a better chance to come out right..." Sophie was glad that there was no one around to see what she did, except, of course, Caleb. But she wouldn't deny that she liked him, and that she trusted him completely not to make fun of her when she made a mistake, as she was prone to do.

He blinked realizing that he was a bit lost in his own world of twists and flicks of words and tones. Such was the world of a wand master. â??Iâ??m sorry I didnâ??t mean that as a real question just more talking to myself not understanding it.â? He pulled his raven wand out and repeated the same sequence that she did and the leaf rose effortlessly. â??Huhâ?¦you had it perfect and there is nothing in magic to make it go wrong or mine would have also.â? He flicked is wand letting the leaf settle back down. Moving up behind her Caleb gently touched her shoulders. â??ok lets try that again this time lets do it together.â? He slipped his wand back away and began to slowly let his hands move down her arms till he held her hands and his chest was against her back.

Sophie smiled and let him try the same spell, having the much desired effect on the leaf. She kept denying that she was jealous of him because he could do that. However, she wouldn't deny that he was very handsome when casting the so very simple spell. A light shiver went down her spine when she felt his hands on her shoulders. She liked the feel of him touching her, even if it was only as a friend. She didn't know what she was going to do when he slipped his hands down her arms to her hands and pressed against her back. She nodded and bit her lip before trying the spell again. Even though she expected something to happen once more, she flinched, only to see it rise delicately into the air. It was the first times he had ever gotten a spell right, and she was happy! She tried hard not to jump up and down, since she didn't know how he would react to it. Her tail wagged happily.

Caleb wasnâ??t sure it would work this time either but was pleasantly surprised when it worked just the way it was meant to. His arms wrapped around her waist hugging her close laughing in joy with her as the leaf forgotten floated back down to the ground. He spun around with her in his arms before turning her around to face her. â??You did it Sophieâ?¦Iâ??mâ?¦Iâ?¦â? he was just realizing how close their faces were just how little it would take for them to kiss. He slowly leaned forward inching close to her lipsâ?¦suddenly the moment was broken as a high famine voice Called out â??OH CALEB!!!â?

Sophie wanted to kiss him too, especially when he had spun her around, cheering her on. But it wasn't quick enough for either of them. She had wished that she could have, since she was enjoying his closeness. Her ears flattened back when she heard the high pitched female voice come from some where behind her, along with a good number of other voices in the background.

Kari, a gorgeous brown furred wolf smiled as she walked outside, leading her clique like the queen bitch...which she was. A soft growl escaped her lips when she saw her man holding the scrawny, unpopular fox as close as she had always wished he would hold her. She might as well barge in there and make her presence known to them both. "OH CALEB!!!" She just pranced right up there and somehow managed to slip between Sophie and Caleb, pushing the fox to the edge of the crowd in the process. "I'm sad that you've never pay any attention to me," she pouted slightly. It would have been very cute...if he had been interested in her. She leaned in closely to whisper in his ear, "Come on, Caleb...you know we're supposed to be together. You know you want some of this." With that, she looked up at him and pressed her lips hard against his.

Sophie bit her lip as she was pushed back to the front edge of the crowd. The display that the wolf was showing Caleb was certainly something that disgusted her beyond anything she had ever seen before...until she saw the next part of Kari's plan. She had wanted so badly to step in and stop her, but she didn't know if she could have. She really didn't want to be on the receiving end of a very painful bitch slap. She gasped when she watched Kari kiss him, and as she saw, he was enjoying it.Her tail dipped and tucked itself between her legs and her ears flattened back. She was gone quickly, pushing her way through the crowd and raced to the school buildings. Tears were streaming down her face for the second time today, and once she was deep into the school, she curled up in a ball in a corner. He didn't really want her. He would have rather had a cute, sexy girl that was more of his type. She buried her face in her knees and kept sobbing.

Caleb was about to grab Sophie and run for his sanity if not his life; but before they could move they were surrounded by the group of girls, and a few boys, that always followed Kari around. He sighed hard turning to meet his fate. He was ok having to go through her fawning as long as Sophie was there, when she was suddenly pulled away from him and disappeared into the crowd. Caleb had faced putting up with this girl since his first day at school. He rolled his eyes and was about to respond to her claim of them meant for each other, when he suddenly felt her warm breath against his lips then her lips pressing to his. His mind shut down for a moment not being able to process what was changing so fast.

It took him till he glanced up seeing Sophie running into the school that kicked him into action. Had Sophie been just a bit slower she would have heard Caleb yelling at the female wolf. â??Now get this through your thick head Kari! I donâ??t want you I never have and never will!â? his next words were slow a deliberate as he slowly back her down to the ground, â??Leave! Me! ALONE!â? he turned to head into the school also rushing along the path he had seen Sophie take. Rounding a final corner he found her curled up her back against a stone wall.

Sophie was just too hurt, and sobbing too hard to hear the footsteps coming toward her. She pulled her tail up to her face, wiping her face with the soft fluff. How could she have been so stupid to fall for him? He didn't belong with the least popular girl in school anyway, and he seemed so much better fit with the other wolf. Her ears drooped, and she wiped her face, accidentally looking up. She saw Caleb standing there, and bit her lip. There was no way she would have been able to stand up and run again without him catching her. "What do you want? No one wants a pathetic fox that can't even use a wand, so why would you be any different?" she sniffed. "You might as well just go like everyone else."

He growled softly kneeling down in front of her. â??Thank you for letting me know what a low opinion you have of me.â? His hand reached out the pain and anger at her painting him with the same brush as others having left his voice. â??Sophie I do want you, your more real then that bitch of a wolf.â? He leaned down kissing her cheek softly sighing. â??I want a real girl not her makeup and clothes. I want the girl that doesnâ??t need those to be beautiful.â?

Sophie sighed and wiped the tears from her eyes, and looked up at him. "I'm sorry, Caleb, but I've been betrayed by just about everyone I know, just because I can't be the person they all want." She took his hand and blushed when she felt him kiss her cheek. She wanted to feel him hold her and make her feel better, since she loved his touch oh so much. She stood up and kept her hand in his and smiled, realizing he was talking about her. "Thank you, Caleb...but I don't think you can see straight. I'm not beautiful."

Caleb sighed as she dismissed that he thought she was beautiful. â??Well your wrong I can see perfectly fine and you are beautiful.â? He stroked her cheek lightly leaning in closer his other hand that was holding hers moved up so it was beside her head and to the side as he leaned in closer. It was obviously what he intended to do, â??You are very very beautiful.â? His lips were very close to hers when suddenly the wall behind her seemed to swing in suddenly and he fell forward.

Sophie sighed and leaned back against the wall, wanting to kiss him. She just didn't want to seem like she was as desperate for him to kiss her like that other wolf was. Her eyes were closed, waiting for his lips to meet hers, until the wall seemed to disappear behind her. She yelped and reflexively wrapped her arms around him to keep from falling backward. It didn't really help, though. She somehow ended upon her back on the floor. "Ow...What happened? She looked around, seeing all kinds of things they needed for working on their magic. "What is this place, Caleb?"

Caleb fell forward on top of Sophie and was first worried that he had hurt her and then second realized just how closely they were press. His mind wasnâ??t focusing on the world around them and so when she asked what this place was he didnâ??t even know what she was referring to. Lifting his head up from where it was almost buried in her neck he glanced around in confusion then stood up. He gently helped her to her feet then went in looking around. There was all sorts of equipment there from the finest alchemist equipment to the best target and wand practice range he had ever seen. â??I donâ??t know Sophie.â?
