A small and rare win for me yesterday: I passed my ITIL exam!

What is ITIL, you may ask? ITIL stands for Information Technology Infrastructure Library. It provides a collection of definitions, guides and processes for best practices around IT Service Management. Under the current version, version 4, the ITIL processes are still primarily focused on the IT space, but have become broader and can be applied to other business areas.

The entry level is Foundation, which is what I was studying. The exam is 40 questions, pass mark is 26. Having done a number of practice exams I was reasonably confident, although the practice exams had me consistently scoring 28-30 with a particular weakness in one area (I kept getting the same things wrong in the practice exams). So I went into the exam knowing I'd be happy if I scored a similar number to pass.

I walked out with a score of 37. I was rather ecstatic. That made it easier to go out to dinner with the wife and then to a concert to listen to the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra play classical pieces from Mendelssohn and Mozart.

Yeah, that made up for the otherwise shitty week.
