Ewwww!

Nice

You know those are fuck me eyes and that consent isn't a factor...

Classic Sword & Sorcery group RPs. I just never see hem anymore. (This is the part where someone chides in that I should make one, at which point I reveal that I do not have the availability to RUN a group RP). But yeah, for whatever reason group RP is suddenly dominated by system run rules. Where did all the freeform group enthusiasts go?

I think people wanting to jump into a setting made those popular, but I found they're just really unstable and hard to manage as a type of RP.

Maybe if some new popular movie drops there will be folks interested for a while?

For some cursed reason the first thing that comes to mind is a well-endowed Hopper from Bug's life, so I wouldn't trust my imagination right now XDDD

Hopper with big naturals?! 😳

Honestly;

I have been trying to muscle my way back into DMing/GMing for a Sci-fi setting or even a fae-wilds like setting. I just want something, absolutely, unhinged and I think they're the best for it. Made the request threads for it, but finding that right person is extremely hard; that and Sci-fi really isn't at the top of people's lists.

The plot. in of itself, I want to have a courtly overtone. Something that gives an atmosphere of a woman in power. Wrangling her own kin and then the various humans etc that they encounter along the way. Trying to push this plot has been a little more difficult than I thought it would be; might need to just redo the request thread.

Simply put: a story set in the Monster Hunter universe. A human Hunter and Wyverian falling in love? A Monster Rider exploring the wider world? A Hunter and Rider needing to put their differences aside to face a common enemy? The list goes on.

Also, I want to fight dinosaurs while wearing power armor. Because why not?

I think its a little ...out-of-place to run stuff meant for a TTRPG as an online narrative roleplay setting.

Anything involving a male human with a female non-human/non-humanoid companion such as ferals, monsters, mythicals, Pokemon, etc. Of course, me playing as the human.

If I want to be VERY specific. I have some ideas in particular I really want to do but at this point I won't even format anywhere:

  1. An idea where I play as a prince who was exhiled or fabricated his own demise/kidnapping so he could overthrow the corrupted actual ruling class who has a chokehold on his kingdom and nation. Long story short, he does not only amassess an army of mercenaries and rebels, but he also meets with the local guardian of a particular landmark (the forest, the sea, the mountain, you name it). The prince would earn her favor and with her help they'd end up stablishing a fairer, more prosperous Kingdom where people are THRIVING. Considering how plot-heavy this is, I won't even bother putting it in an RT.
  2. In this idea I'd play as a Ranger who works with his Pokemon Partner to fight against the big bad organized criminal organization, or even a whole criminal syndicate. This would of course be a tad more mature than your average Pokemon game. Not only because of the romantic bond between the ranger and his pokemon, but because in this scenario Pokemon could and are actually used as sentient weapons, especially by the criminal organization. While I hint at this idea. I don't necessarily put it up in a detailed manner because let's be honest: I'd be reaching in an empty room.
I have other ideas which are human x human but I realized there's EVEN LESS of a target for ideas involving a young a man having a wholesome relationship with a middle aged gal. So...even elaborating on those feels even more pointless.

I miss roleplaying circa 2018 🥲

yeah, that's always a trend i notice. whenever some popular movie or show is peaking in popularity, there is often ripples of inspired roleplays in the same vein.

When the Fury Road Mad max movie came out, i had hoped to see more postapocalyptic group RPs spring up. But it did not seem to catch on. Niether did I see any sci-fi settings in DUNE analog. Alien: Romulus recently came out and was amazing! Yet, i have yet to see anything that beckons to its narrative and theme.

I dunno... I think I just no longer understand what the younger gen of RPers are into nowadays. I see a lot of Harry Potter and Isekai stuff... to which I gag. Never been my thing, but they remain popular.

Isn't Harry Potter an Isekai itself?
err... no? I mean, I dont think so. Tbh, I'm not a potterhead, so maybe someone could make a point about that notion that is beyond my understanding of the setting. As far as I know, HP is just "Secret Wizard School". and Isekai is just the anime version of Media Transmigration (usually with a Video Game world being the media of setting)

Well "Isekai" is just "person from world X goes into setting Y" and literally just means "another world". Seeing as in Harry Potter the Wizarding World is a separate thing from the "muggle" or "non-magic" world, it could be argued that Harry is being Isekai'd to the magic world school.

By Strict definition Isekai needs someone to be in another world I believe. The wizard stuff is still on earth.

I mean, that IS true, but it's also kept entirely separate via barriers between the two halves of the world. Though I guess what would be more accurate to consider an Isekai would be Narnia, Alice in Wonderland, or Wizard of Oz.

I'm not familiar enough nor really care too get familiar with Harry Potter for a few reasons but I've always felt it was more of a hidden world/masquerade setting.

But again I'm pretty fine with whatever people wanna call it, not my problem lol

I mean, I totally understand why you wouldn't care to get familiar with Harry Potter if it's JK Rowling-related, but at this point its a matter of pedantism.

For example, Sword Art Online is considered an Isekai and falls under the category on most anime sites and manga libraries, but the characters are just going into a virtual reality game with their bodies remaining in the "real world" otherwise. It's not even a different world, technically. This further splits the definition and understanding thereof, however. Technically, we could argue that going into a carnival haunted house and suspending your disbelief would qualify as isekai because—like with SAO—you're having a character go into a make-believe "world" for the duration of the experience.

Tbf I also wouldn't outright call SAO an isekai either and I'll fully agree it's pedantic. Ask me my thoughts on rogue likes vs roguelites sometime LMAO.

Anyway this is getting a lil off topic

True, it kinda is, and while I agree with you about SAO it doesn't change the fact that it is agreed upon at large to fit the category regardless of how you or I may feel about it.

I'd love to hear your thoughts on the distinction between rogue-likes and roguelites if you'd like to DM me about it.

To get back on the topic itself however, without straying too far from the topic of Isekai; I'd love to do an RP à la Reboot, where the characters hop from world to world, their attires—sometimes even bodies—and abilities changing to fit the new world they end up in, while remaining functionally the same person on the inside. Maybe something like interdimensional explorers...

TBH it's not too complicated. Too many people refer to roguelites as roguelikes and it truly irks me. A roguelike is a very specific kind of game imo. Binding of Isaac is a good game but it's not a roguelike.

Anyway on topic, niche fandoms are my answer here. Even ideas more loosely inspired by them

Currently trying to write up an interest check inspired by Terra Nova. Tl;dr- WWIII screwed up the planet to the point that Earth is unlivable for humans, so people are sent back in time 60 million years ago to what is today the Hell Creek Formation. The main characters are members of a reconnaissance force scouting the area for resources like minerals, food, and possible areas for expansion.

All while wearing powered armor.

Yes, this is simply an excuse for me to pit humans in powered armor against some of the most famous dinosaurs in history, including Triceratops, Ankylosaurus, and--of course-- Tyrannosaurus rex.

Yeah, I'm kinda with Rev on this, and not reallycaring too much. I dont do isekais nor HP roleplays. So they can do what they want with either.

this is weird...on another roleplaying site I'm on, someone is recruiting for a group RP based exactly on this Terra Nova concept. I wouldn't have known (because I've never heard of it before) except that they told me as much during character creation conversations.

Recently, I tried to pitch a Judge Dredd RP on a different site. After a bout a week and ZERO replies, I dropped it. I was looking to gather +4 players. But if in a week, I couldn't get even one... I knew it was doomed. Usually, I do my own original group settings. But I have a hard time getting those going. So I tried one of my favorite fandoms, hoping that the preexisting concept might draw more interest, as fandoms often do. The problem, I feel, is that my fandoms might be a bit... out of date??? For starters, if people have even heard of Judge Dredd, it's usually just the more recent movie (with Karl Urban). If they've heard/seen both of the movies (the other is with Sylvester Stallone), they likely dont know much about the comics (which is where I largely drew a lot of the setting concept).

Guess I'll go back to my original settings
