BASIC INFORMATION
Full Name: Franklin Liddle Jr.
Nickname(s): Frank. Never Frankie. Don't get cute.
Gender: Male
Age: 33
Ethnicity: Caucasian, but Frank would like you to believe he’s got soul. Ugh.
Sexual Orientation: Heterosexual, but you know what they say; any port in a storm.
Occupation: Uh… between jobs? Let’s say between jobs.

PHYSICAL DESCRIPTION
Face Claim: Sam Rockwell. Specifically this Sam Rockwell.
Height: 5'10"
Weight: 165 lbs.
Eye Color: Hazel
Hair Color: Dark brown
Prominent Features or Distinguishing Marks: A small scar on his left cheek from an unfortunate biking accident (he doesn't own a car, you know). An unfortunate tattoo of a surfboarding alien on his right arm. An even more unfortunate tattoo of his ex-wife’s name on his collarbone, crossed out after the divorce.

General Physical Description: You’re in a dark, smoke filled bar. You hear some loudmouth in the corner getting real chatty, bragging about his glory days and talking shit to anyone who’ll listen. He’s drunk, but you get the idea that this is the kind of functioning alcoholism that only the most committed barfly can live with. You can't help but turn to look at this jackass, and when you see him, all of your preconceived notions are entirely confirmed. He’s dressed like shit. He looks like shit. There’s bags under his eyes as deep as the Mariana Trench and stains on his t-shirt that have been there for weeks. His bed head hair is an underachiever's crown. He even has a mustache and that mustache is just awful. He’s handsome in spite of himself, average weight even though you can tell he hasn’t eaten a vegetable in over a decade, attractive in the same way that watching a car wreck is entertaining. A toothy grin reflects his undeserved sense of self-importance. He looks older than he is, sun damaged skin and hair already going gray at the edges. This is a man who stared into the abyss and decided it was a good idea to go for a little swim. And now… Well, now he's drowning, isn't he?

PERSONALITY DESCRIPTION
Personality Traits:
  • Narcissistic - Nothing is Frank’s fault! The world just keeps kicking him when he’s down, y’know?
  • Dishonest - Lies are only wishes that haven’t come true yet.
  • Paranoid - Frank is a devoted conspiracy theorist. You don’t get to be like that without a little bit of paranoia.
  • Impulsive - Who has time for forethought or introspection?
  • Abrasive - Loud, annoying, and with the uncanny ability to rub everyone the wrong way.
Likes: Conspiracy theories. Cheap beer. Menthol cigarettes. A warm bed. A damn good burger. Card games that allow for gambling. Gambling that allows for card games. Cryptozoology. Arguing. Fist fights. Soap carving. Van fuckin’ Halen.
Dislikes: Family. Stability. Responsibility. Sobriety. Bicycles. Dry spells. Money (or lack thereof). The government. Himself, if we’re being entirely honest.

HISTORY
Biography: Oh, Frank…

The first born. The prodigal son. A cautionary tale, if there ever was one. Proof that even the brightest of futures can lead to the darkest of realities. Born and raised in Dawn Chorus, there were no silver spoons or prospective inheritances lingering in Frank’s hopes and dreams, but there was grit and hardwork and the intangible value of being a decent human being. Those were the teachings passed down by his mother and father who wanted nothing more than to make sure their son was raised right. Where would we be without wishful thinking?

Childhood was normal. When his sister Charlene came along five years after him, Frank took it upon himself to protect and cherish her, to tell her what he knew of the world, to act as her guide through the perils of youth. Long summer days out in the woods, climbing trees and catching bugs. Nights spent beneath pillow forts, ghost stories told in whispered words. Thick as thieves, bound together by common blood, two crossed fingers to indicate just how close they really were. When puberty hit and things began to change, Frank found himself gifted with popularity while Charlie found herself on an island all her own.

High school was football and letter jackets, girls in backseats and those first few sips of alcohol. By the time Charlie caught up, Frank had established himself as something to behold. It only took a few years post-graduation for the cracks to really start to show. He married his high school sweetheart, a girl named Helena, and they had a bouncing baby boy. Frank got himself a job as a mechanic, putting his hands to good use. They bought a house with a white picket fence. The marriage lasted just a few months shy of six years before it all came crashing down, but not for the reasons one might expect. There was no abuse. There was no infidelity. There was… well, aliens. Aliens and Frank’s insistence that he had been abducted several times in his mid to late twenties.

This delusion led to a whole smattering of other problems. Frank became increasingly unhinged, unfazed when Helena asked for a divorce and decided to move out of Dawn Chorus entirely. He didn’t even fight for custody. He stopped showing up for his job and, when he did grace the garage with his presence, he slept in the bathroom until noon. That house with its white picket fence fell into disrepair before foreclosure notices filled the mailbox. In the span of six months, Frank went from an upstanding member of the community to a man living out of a motel room, blazing through the last of his savings while his father died in a doomed old house and his sister watched helplessly from the sideline.

Two years post-divorce and post-’abduction’, Frank is barely even a shell of his former self. Obsessed with conspiracy theories, only working odd jobs when money is an absolute necessity, drinking himself into oblivion, getting in trouble more often than not… A man who thinks he has all the answers when, in truth, he barely even answers his phone.

Notable Relationships:
  • His sister, Charlene Liddle. He only speaks to her when he has to.
  • Their father, Frank Sr. He hasn't visited his father in years.
  • His ex-wife, Helena Yarley. She moved out to Charlotte. Pretty sure she remarried. May she burn in hell.
  • His son, Wesley Liddle. Birthday cards count as child support, right?

BASIC INFORMATION
Full Name: Ophelia Aung [Eaindra Aung]
Nickname(s): Nope.
Gender: Female
Age: 28
Ethnicity: South Asian
Sexual Orientation: Asexual
Occupation: Surgical resident at White Feather Community Hospital. Has a side fling as 'witch', offering services including but not limited to: seances, fortune tellings, tarot readings and potions.

PHYSICAL DESCRIPTION
Face Claim: Paing Phyo Thu
Height: 5'10"
Weight: 125lbs
Eye Color: Dark Brown
Hair Color: Black
Prominent Features or Distinguishing Marks: Has multiple prominent birthmarks: one on her chin, two on the left side of her neck and one on her collarbone. Has tattoos on either arm of two Burmese mythological creatures, the Garuda and the Naga.

General Physical Description: Ophelia is a slender, haughty woman with an air that blends professionalism and eccentricity. She stands out in a crowd for a number of reasons - her preference for white, free-flowing bohemian fashion (which she combines with harsh buns and extensive makeup), the faintly sallow tone of her skin and her general social ineptitude.

PERSONALITY DESCRIPTION
Personality Traits:
  • Ambitious
  • Perfectionist
  • Materialistic
  • Judgemental
  • Dryly Humourous
Likes: Performing surgeries; occult literature; pop music; retail therapy; coffee; physical exercise.
Dislikes: People mispronouncing her surname; exhausting social events.

HISTORY
Biography: The Aungs have always been in Dawn Chorus. Ophelia's grandparents moved to the quaint little town after migrating from Burma in 1964, escaping the coup of '62. They purchased a small plot of land on the outskirts of town and settled amidst the intense culture shock and troubled relations with the locals (to say the least) deciding that settling in Dawn Chorus was better than trying their luck in the big cities.

Now a quirk about the charming family - they're conservative as fuck. Three generations they've lived here, and every single member of the family have turned out to be a doctor. First, they operated their own little clinic, and then continued practising at the community hospital once it was built. They also married strictly within their own culture and were devout Buddhists. Things worked out well for them obviously - her grandparents had a son, who in turn had Ophelia.

Ophelia was a bit of a strange egg from the start. Gangly and awkward even as a little girl, she was a bit of an outcast at school, which was quite characteristic of her family. Raised the way she was, it was of little surprise she was quiet and reserved, but she did well in her studies nonetheless, as was expected of her. She had few friends and spent most of her time absorbed in the many strange genres of literature her mother seemed to possess. The woman kept them safely out of sight of her conservative husband, of course, but allowed her daughter to borrow a few books, which started the girl's interests that would later shape her life.

Off she went to college, leaving the town in what apparently was a permanent affair, as her mother wanted her to move back to Burma after her graduation. College and university brought out the young woman a little, who began to indulge in more risque endeavours. Yet, soon after her graduation, months before she planned to move to the other side of the country, her whole family passed away in a house fire, apparently started by her mother in the basement of their home.

Scrapping her plans, Ophelia moved back to her home town, ostensibly to deal with all the legal paperwork that comes with the passing of a relative, but soon decided to settle in Dawn Chorus, rebuilding the burnt home from the ground up. She applied to WFCH and was naturally accepted, and soon opened Seance, her little 'shop' for all things eccentric and mystical, though, in reality, it is little more than a shrine to her obsessions. No one knows what prompted the sudden turn in the woman, or why she's selling 'sleeping potions' and diazepam in the same breath, but rumours spread like wildfire in Dawn Chorus.

And rumour has it... well, let's save that for another day.

Notable Relationships:
  • James Aung: Paternal grandfather; deceased.
  • Eleanor Aung: Paternal grandmother; deceased.
  • Patrick Aung: Father; deceased.
  • Mary Aung: Mother; deceased.
  • Quentin Severin: Ophelia is a loyal customer of Quentin's metaphysical shop, and is frequently seen at the place whenever the man is in town.

BASIC INFORMATION
Full Name: Grace Letts
Nickname(s): Gracie (family & close friends), Ms. Letts (students)
Gender: Female
Age: 27
Ethnicity: Caucasian
Sexual Orientation: 95% Heterosexual
Occupation: High School Teacher (English/Newspaper)

PHYSICAL DESCRIPTION
Face Claim: Lucy Boynton 1, 2, 3, 4, 5
Height: 5'5"
Weight: 120lbs
Eye Color: Green
Hair Color: Blonde (yeah, it's dyed)
Prominent Features or Distinguishing Marks: Pierced ears, no tattoos/scars/birthmarks.

General Physical Description: Grace Letts is a striking, late-20s woman with sharp, expressive features and shoulder-length wavy blonde hair. Her fashion sense is unusually extravagant for a town like Dawn Chorus, but on her off-days, she's likely to be spotted in casual athletic attire, sans makeup or fuss.

PERSONALITY DESCRIPTION
Personality Traits:
  • Creative
  • Snarky
  • Observant
  • Skeptical
  • Mercurial
Likes: Outlandish clothing, decorating, and endeavors; hiking; gossip; music and film; photography; coffee shops and bars. Probably plays tennis and rides horses - or she used to, at least.
Dislikes: Running into students outside of school; the school's administration; rednecks; waking up early; church.

HISTORY
Biography: A relative newcomer to Dawn Chorus, Grace Letts has a handful of quirks. As the daughter of a medical doctor and an English professor, she had a privileged upbringing in the exclusive historic district of Savannah, Georgia, where she attended private school and was an above-average student.

After graduating from college, Grace took a job teaching at the same school she attended as a student, only to leave mid-semester in her third year. She claims that she came to Dawn Chorus HS to qualify for a student loan forgiveness program (offered to teachers at rural and/or impoverished schools), but she's made a few comments that lead many of her coworkers to quietly believe there was some scandal or drama that resulted in her sudden departure from her last job. If she's still in contact with her parents, she doesn't mention them much and hasn't - to anyone's knowledge - returned to Savannah to visit them. She is, however, a cousin to the Ryan family; she does not know them well or enjoy their wealth, but perhaps her lineage was enough to help secure her a job.

Grace’s mother, Tabitha Ryan Letts, was the 13th child of Stanley & Harriet Ryan. Her mother “ran off” to college and never returned to Dawn Chorus, effectively cutting all ties with her parents and many siblings. Grace was raised knowing nothing about her mother’s family, and Grace’s move to Dawn Chorus is at least partially responsible for her current estrangement from her parents - a fact she keeps secret, so far.

She rents a small cottage in town, formerly occupied by a now-deceased taxidermist. While the landlord dutifully cleaned out the house, he left the taxidermist's shed/workshop in the backyard untouched, not knowing what to do with the tools and materials. Out of boredom, Grace has been casually learning taxidermy. Thus far, her creations are… not great. They are disfigured, often fanciful hybrids of various small animals, and many people find them deeply unsettling. Grace, used to people not quite understanding her tastes, is undeterred.

As a general rule, she is extremely skeptical of anything paranormal and doesn't scare easily; she is also a resolute atheist. Grace is currently in her second year teaching at DCHS, and she seems to be well-liked by her students, though a few have noted her quick temper.

Notable Relationships:
  • estranged daughter of Tabitha Ryan Letts (Stanley & Harriet Ryan’s 13th child)
  • First cousin to dozens of Ryans, including Sheriff Stanley Ryan III, though she knows none of them well
  • no known love interests; occasional flings
  • platonically smitten with Zara Whitehall
  • more to come!

BASIC INFORMATION
Full Name: Theodora Elise Collins
Nickname(s): Theo, to most.
Gender: Female
Age: 23
Ethnicity: Caucasian
Sexual Orientation: Pansexual
Occupation: Bartender/waitress at The Blue Rose Bar and Grill.

PHYSICAL DESCRIPTION
Face Claim:
Height: 5'5"
Weight: 120lb ~ give or take?
Eye Color: Light Blue
Hair Color: Dark brown
Prominent Features or Distinguishing Marks:

A small star tattoo sits behind her left ear, both ears baring multiple piercings. Her most prominent feature is a beauty mark on the front of her neck. Notable would easily be her round, doe-shaped eyes which always seem to be gleaming with curiosity.

General Physical Description:

Theo has a tall, slender build, though she certainly doesn't lack a curvaceous figure. Considerably pretty, she has a fair complexion and a slightly upturned nose which bares a hoop through one nostril. Her thick hair is usually worn down or in a loose braid. If she isn't at work, she keeps a causal attire of form fitting ripped jeans and a plain shirt. During cold weather her go to is a oversized black leather jacket or her favorite thrift shop find; a faux fur white coat. Theo's choice in shoes varies between a pair of worn red converse and a simple set of combat boots.

PERSONALITY DESCRIPTION
Personality Traits:
  • Self Indulgent ~ characterized by doing or tending to do exactly what one wants, especially when this involves pleasure or idleness.
  • Optimistic ~ annoyingly so she’s sure some would say.
  • Social ~ she’s just a people person, if she likes it or not. Most find her as a good ear to vent to, or just a fun conversational host.
  • Impatient ~ Ain’t nobody got time for that.
  • Loyal ~ to a fault.
Likes: Most genres of rock, greasy food (contradicting the meals she serves at the grill), the smell of rain, sleeping in, coffee (black just like her metal), long walks, joints, random drives, online shopping. the occult, and reality television.
Dislikes: People who stare. Loud chewing. Her ex. Nightmares.

HISTORY
Biography:

Although Theo's roots run deep within DC, the young woman is fairly new (arrived only a few months ago) After receiving news of her grandmother's passing, along with a hefty inheritance, she jumped on the opportunity to ditch life in the big city in hope to start fresh. Leaving a trail of bad decisions far behind her. With money in hand she packed up her van with the bare minimum and left without word.

Now living in her family's old home next to Gordon Lake, she quickly found employment at The Blue Rose. Why her family, all except for her grandmother and uncle, left Dawn Chorus to began with isn’t known. If you ask her mother, who was pregnant with Theo at the time of the move, she would simply say it was to better their lives. Now, her father on the other hand refused to say much. Only making small rants about how he couldn’t wait to get outta that damned town.

Her relationship with her parents has became just as estranged as her uncle Alan since her arrival in DC. Going as far as only sending her the occasional post card, ‘cause what better way to say we’re slowly disowning you than a half ass signed card? Theo likes to lay low, keeping her distance from most of the locals unless they stumble into the grill. Some regulars she finds charming and fun like, Grace. While others have found away to get under her skin…

Notable Relationships:

  • Gwen and Theodore Collins ~ parents (NPCs)
  • Theresa Collins ~ grandmother (recently deceased). Well known around DC as a simple, sincere, elderly woman. Her death came with no foul play.
  • Zara Whitehall ~ employer.
  • Trevor Prescott ~ exboyfriend. As toxic as toxic can get. Theo will argue to the day no true feelings existed.
  • Freya Black Elk ~ someone Theo highly respects, even considering them to be on a light friendship level.
  • TBA? ~ open for collaboration.

BASIC INFORMATION
Full Name: Marigold Baker
Nickname(s): Mari
Gender: Female
Age: 26
Ethnicity: Caucasian
Sexual Orientation: Demisexual, gender preference unclear
Occupation: Hairstylist

PHYSICAL DESCRIPTION
Face Claim: *
Height: 5' 4"
Weight: Still trying to lose the baby weight...nine years later
Eye Color: Brown
Hair Color: Blonde (for now)
Prominent Features or Distinguishing Marks: She has a distinctive beauty mark on her cheek that inspired her rockabilly style

General Physical Description: Curvy and sensual with a DIY vintage style, Mari's look is great for drumming up business at her friend's beauty salon, but it does sometimes draw what her mother would call "the wrong type of attention." She has a natural talent for hairstyling and makeup, and always seems to know the best thrifted pieces to pair with an outfit. She does sometimes wish she were taller and thinner, but tries not to let it dim her warm smile.

PERSONALITY DESCRIPTION
Personality Traits:
  • Hardworking
  • Amenable
  • Down-to-Earth
  • Ambitious
  • Hopeful
Likes: Her daughter, thrift stores, peanut butter shakes, jukeboxes, dancing, makeup, cats, sunsets
Dislikes: Her mother, dating, thunderstorms, bills, people who make fun of her daughter, bad tippers

HISTORY
Biography: Mari is the only child of the auspicious Mrs. Violet Elizabeth Baker Jackson Blumenthal Liu, a wealthy heiress whose family stretched back to the town's founding before falling from grace over the past few generations. Miss Violet herself is quite a character: having been married three times with all three husbands meeting unfortunate ends--shockingly, all three were struck by lightning. She also claims to see angels descending and rising in the Gordon Lake Cemetery across the road from her old family mansion.

Despite her gloomy surroundings and the deaths of her stepfathers, Marigold Baker grew up relatively well adjusted, being quite popular in high school despite her mother's efforts, and even making head cheerleader. Naturally, she also had a passionate affair with the captain of the football team, young Johnny McGuire. Alas, the romance was cut short when Johnny was tragically struck by lightning after the homecoming football game, but his legacy would live on. It was only a few weeks after his funeral that Mari announced that she, at age 16, was pregnant with Johnny's baby, although for some reason the timing never seemed to work out exactly right to match up with that explanation.

Regardless, Marigold's daughter Daisy was born healthy, although Mari had to drop out of school to help raise her. Still, she eventually got licensed to cut hair, and got a job as a stylist in her old friend Barb's hair salon in town. Mari and the now nine-year-old Daisy still live in Violet's old house across from the cemetery, although if Marigold had her way they would leave Dawn Chorus entirely and start over somewhere new. She doesn't like how much time Daisy spends with Violet instead of kids her own age, and she also doesn't like how her daughter always seems to know what people are thinking, or the shadowy figures that appear in the girl's drawings...

Notable Relationships:
  • Mrs. Violet Baker Jackson Blumenthal Liu, her mother - Their relationship is tenuous
  • Daisy Baker, her daughter - Mari adores her daughter, but does think she's a bit odd
  • Johnny McGuire, her high school boyfriend - Deceased, struck by lightning while walking home from football
  • Reginald Jackson III, her stepfather (1) - Deceased, struck by lightning while mowing the lawn
  • Simon Blumenthal, her stepfather (2) - Deceased, struck by lightning while taking Mari to school
  • Liu Jia, her stepfather (3) - Deceased, struck by lightning while fishing in Gordon Lake
  • Barbara Wallace, her boss - Owner of Heat Snip and Dye Salon

BASIC INFORMATION
Full Name: Charlene Rae Liddle
Nickname(s): Charlie
Gender: Female
Age: 27
Ethnicity: Caucasian
Sexual Orientation: Heterosexual
Occupation: Sheriff Deputy DCPD

PHYSICAL DESCRIPTION
Face Claim: --
Height: 5'5"
Weight: Utterly irrelevant
Eye Color: Blue
Hair Color: Blonde
Prominent Features or Distinguishing Marks: A smattering of freckles across the bridge of her nose; faint, more pronounced in daylight or with a tan. A tiny, vertical scar on her left eyebrow from an injury as a child.

General Physical Description: Slight of frame. Mildly pigeon toed. Fair skinned. Bespectacled.

PERSONALITY DESCRIPTION
Personality Traits:
  • Quiet
  • Compassionate
  • Reserved
  • Responsible
  • Honest
Likes: Candles. Classic movies. Cozy bookshops, coffee houses or restaurants. Cool, crisp mornings/days. Country roads. Meditation (though, she's awful at it). Cracker Jacks. Running. Bluegrass and Folk music especially.
Dislikes: Heavy rain. Winter. Hospitals. Alcohol/Drugs. American cheese. Tomatoes. Downtown potholes.

HISTORY
Biography: If a family is a home, and each of it's members a pillar, then Charlie is the last standing column of an all but collapsed estate. When their mother died, it had been hard. When Frank Sr. lost his job at the chemical plant, it'd gotten worse. When the roof caved in (literally), it'd been all but necessary that the two Liddle children start chipping in however they could. For Charlie, this meant afternoons in the library, replacing checkouts to their shelves and evenings performing light janitorial work at the town's clinic. She still loathes the smell of disinfectant.

High school was a nightmare; often teased for her gangly figure and affordable (see: hideous) frames, Charlie spent most of her time in the library, burying herself in other worlds and history, or sheltered in the safety of Mr. Postlethwait's empty classroom. Apparently, any residual cool-points her brother, Frank Jr., had in his pocket were non transferable, even to blood relatives. All the same, what clout he did carry surely kept those four years in the realms of bad, and away from truly, scarringly horrible.

Perhaps to the surprise of everyone, including herself, a career in law enforcement had come almost naturally. A shrewd sense for potential misdemeanors and a staunch moral barometer made academy a breeze. Though not the most physically imposing force to ever don the uniform, a cool, constant pragmatism and patience inherited from her father have proven to be invaluable in the field. A wiser, or perhaps more ambitious, young woman might have used her stellar grades and aptitude to learn to escape the little hamlet by the lake. But, she could never leave. Not with dad in the hospital with ascending bowel cancer and Frank...

Oh, Frank...

Notable Relationships:
  • Frank Jr. her brother
  • Frank Sr. their father
  • Mr. Postlethwait, her former high-school chemistry teacher turned local "inventor" and "freelance scientist"
  • Deputy Klump, a longtime friend, turned colleague
  • Several citizens of Dawn Chorus, in passing (it's her job)

BASIC INFORMATION
Full Name: Yancey Klump
Nickname(s): He’s been pushing for ‘The Yanceman’ for years, but so far, all he’s got is ‘Prancy Yancey’. He doesn't even prance! ...much.
Gender: Male
Age: 26
Ethnicity: Biracial (African American and Caucasian)
Sexual Orientation: Ostensibly heterosexual
Occupation: Sheriff Deputy, DCPD

PHYSICAL DESCRIPTION
Face Claim: Richard Ayoade
Height: 6’2”
Weight: 150 lbs.
Eye Color: Brown
Hair Color: Black
Prominent Features or Distinguishing Marks: Large glasses. Flawless skin. Fabulous hair. A small ink dot on his left bicep; he passed right out the second the tattoo gun touched his arm. It was supposed to be an awesome Battlestar Galactica tat.

General Physical Description: A nerd. A geek. A dweeb. You can see it in how lanky he is, thin as a rail and too angular. It's in his body language, awkward and fidgety. It's the big glasses, the sheepish little grins, the asymmetrical stances. Not much about Yancey can be described as cool. He wears tweed suit jackets. He owns a collection of novelty neckties. He's never so much as set foot inside a gym. However, even the ugliest duckling has it's redeeming qualities; after years of awful acne throughout high school, Yancey now has a perfect complexion thanks to a miraculous skincare regimen. He takes it very, very seriously.

PERSONALITY DESCRIPTION
Personality Traits:
  • Anxious - To the absolute core. Yancey has anxiety about having anxiety.
  • Timorous - He should have been named Tim; short for timid.
  • Introverted - Yancey lives in his own head and you. are. not. invited.
  • Loyal - If you manage to push through all of Yancey’s defenses and actually become his friend, he’ll be by your side until Jesus comes back.
  • Meticulous - Precise to a fault. He lives on forethought and planning, always dotting his i’s and crossing his t’s.
Likes: His saxophone. The smell of used books. Really chill cats. His Xanax prescription. Drinking coffee at midnight like a rebel.
Dislikes: Being a police officer. Year round allergies. Really mean cats. Movie adaptations of his favorite books. Violence. Loud, sudden movements. Needles. Airplanes. Profanity. The dark.

HISTORY
Biography: Question: How does a man like Yancey Klump become a police officer? Answer: Peer pressure and years of therapy. Born in Asheville, NC and adopted by a pair of German immigrants living in Dawn Chorus, Yancey was doomed from the get go. He was adored and coddled, protected and called 'mein schatz' by his adoptive mother. While he wasn't necessarily spoiled, his parents failed to properly prepare him for what the real world had in store. After being homeschooled for most of his childhood, Yancey couldn't begin to predict what horrors awaited him in the public school system…

For starters, a name like 'Yancey Klump' doesn't do anyone any favors. That's a given. Couple that with a face full of acne, an awkward growth spurt, and all the other whims of puberty, it's only a matter of time before you end up stuffed in a locker or getting your hair washed by a flushing toilet. For Yancey, this trauma came quick and fast. If it weren't for an early graduation midway through his junior year and what few friends he did have, he never would have made it out alive… but he did and he has the general anxiety disorder to prove it

Life has a funny way of throwing curve balls. A master on the saxophone, Yancey was destined to travel to his surrogate ancestral homeland of Germany to play in the Berliner Philharmoniker. It could have been a brilliant career. The day he was set to leave began with a flat tire and a missed flight. It ended with a rescheduled flight’s plane crash in an open field and two weeks in a coma. Yancey came out of it relatively unscathed, a little shaken but no worse for wear. However, since that day, he hasn’t been able to so much as take a single step outside of Dawn Chorus and its surrounding area without being befallen by some sort of misfortune; as if all of his most irrational anxieties come true the very second he crosses the county line. In circumstances like this, the word ‘cursed’ comes to mind.

Lost and listless with his dreams dashed against the metaphorical rocks, Yancey began seeing an online therapist (seeing as there were none in Dawn Chorus proper) who urged him to get out of his shell and find ways to push his own limits. You never know what you're capable of until you try! This shell-getting-outing manifested in the most unlikely career path, courtesy of the coaxing of his closest friend and confidant, Charlie Liddle: Yancey joined Dawn Chorus’ already dwindling police force. He was promised a cushy desk job, pushing papers and putting check marks in boxes. That lasted a month before he found himself out in the field, much to his chagrin.

And so it goes.

Notable Relationships:
  • Charlie Liddle - Best friend? Best friend.
  • Ophelia Aung - They knew each other in high school, to some extent. They talk occasionally.
  • Frank Liddle - Frank is the cause of at least ten panic attacks over the course of Yancey's life. AVOID.
  • Gunnar Klump, his adoptive father. Heidi Klump, his adoptive mother. They moved to the Florida Panhandle to join a nudist colony. They visit occasionally.

BASIC INFORMATION
Full Name: Trevor Prescott
Nickname(s): Do curses and general epithets count?
Gender: Male
Age: 24
Ethnicity: Caucasian
Sexual Orientation: Heterosexual
Occupation: Technically unemployed, but gets by on loans from his father and whatever other income he can get

PHYSICAL DESCRIPTION
Face Claim: Jord Liddell
Height: 6'1"
Weight: 190
Eye Color: Grey
Hair Color: Brown
Prominent Features or Distinguishing Marks: Several tattoos along his forearms, hands; birds, anchors, stars, the usual sort of poorly drawn, hastily chosen crap you see on someone with no discernable income. A notable, vulgar depiction of the Birth of Venus on his left, underside forearm. The words Solve and Coagula on his left and right hands respectively. His torso and arms are a veritable mosaic of poorly understood references.

General Physical Description: Tall, broad shouldered and outwardly handsome, whatever good vibes his appearance may command, are quickly spoiled by his reputation for confrontation/violence.

PERSONALITY DESCRIPTION
Personality Traits: Choose five.
  • Arrogant
  • Opinionated
  • Impatient
  • Entitled
  • Violent
Likes: Scotch; he'll tell you the difference matters, but he'll drink whatever's available. To excess. Cigarettes. Other illicit substances best left to the imagination. Cheap beer. Expensive beer, if he's not buying it. Getting blackout drunk and into fistfights (if his habituation for them is any indicator).
Dislikes: Slow people, be they in the road or on the sidewalk. Dawn Chorus itself. Law enforcement (he's had several run-ins).

HISTORY
Biography: Originally from Las Vegas, Nevada, Trevor is the product of gross underparenting and the result of too little concern thrown his way. He's not misbehaved; he's creative. He's not violent; he just stands up for what he believes in. Trevor was a good boy; he just can't help himself sometimes.

These are the lies that the creators of monsters tell themselves.

Growing up in and out of the backstages of several, low-rent casinos, the fourth, currently legitimate, son of yet another low-desert sleezeball, it really didn't bother anyone when he'd set his sights other places; San Bernardino, Flagstaff, Galveston and, finally, (wherever he met Theo). Like most things in Trevor's life that he's decided are his, Theo and he parting ways has rubbed a sore spot while he licked his wounds for nine months on an aggravated assault charge in USP Atlanta.

Never one to leave a bridge unburned, he's decided to track her down to Dawn Chorus.

*author's note: Trevor is, quite obviously and garishly, a caricature of the bad boy trope. His motives and connections are as in flux as they need be to work with whomever may need him

Notable Relationships:
  • Theodora Collins. He'll tell you it's love, but anyone with a shred of sense can see it's simple obsession and a healthy dose of entitlement
  • Dean Prescott, his father and owner of several, off-strip, resort & casinos. (may be featured)
  • TBA

BASIC INFORMATION
Full Name: Randall McDougall
Nickname(s): Rudy, Rand, Randy, Old Man McDougall
Gender: Male
Age: 72 and still kicking
Ethnicity: Caucasian
Sexual Orientation: Heterosexual
Occupation: Retiree, army vet

PHYSICAL DESCRIPTION
Face Claim: Michael Keaton
Height: 5'10''
Weight: 160 lbs
Eye Color: Blue
Hair Color: Grey, with some dark patches
Prominent Features or Distinguishing Marks: Rand seems to have a permanent crease between his eyebrows from scowling too much. He also has bragging rights to a number of scars that he earned during the war, though rumor has it he didn’t see as much action as he claimed when he was active duty, and no one has ever actually seen any of these scars. One notable scar is located on his upper, left shoulder, where a bullet hit.

General Physical Description: You can tell he had been a looker in the day and he’ll argue that he still is. Those baby blues are still bright and even though his hair has thinned and gone almost completely grey, he was a way of combing it to make it look like he has a fuller head of hair. Even though he is in his seventies, he is still a stout man, with broad shoulders and a chiseled look that has aged like a fine wine, he’ll say. Even though he drinks mostly whiskey straight out of the bottle when he can get away with it. While he has lost his six pack somewhere in his forties and now sports a paunch, he still looks better than that fat kid that lives down the road.

PERSONALITY DESCRIPTION
Personality Traits:
  • Belligerent
  • Paranoid
  • Proud
  • Vulgar
  • Temperamental
Likes: Jack, Jim, Jameson - to name a few. Also, his five cats, who all hate other people except for him. At least that’s what he says. Secretly - and he will never admit to it - he also enjoys sitting back in his favorite armchair with a good cozy mystery novel. When asked what he likes to read, he will swear that he only reads autobiographies and true crime. In recent years, he has also secretly taken a liking to paranormal activity, even using the Internet to research strange happenings locally and all over the world. He hates memes, though, and still doesn’t know how to text on his smart phone.
Dislikes: Most things. Definitely kids. Absolutely gossips, busybodies, and homewreckers.

HISTORY
Biography:
Born in 1949 to Mr. and Mrs. Jackson McDougall, Randall grew up in New York and hated the big city life. As an only child, he felt the absence of his father and grew annoyed with the doting of his mother. At the age of eighteen, he joined the United States army and spent the next twenty years serving his country.

When he was twenty five, he met Mary. By twenty six, they were married with a child on the way. Mary’s family was from a small town known as Dawn Chorus and was eager to settle down there and Randall was more than happy to oblige. When Mary lost the baby during her second trimester, they were devastated, but were eager to start their family and try again. As the years went by, however, Mary and Randall were unable to start their family.

It was Mary’s idea to adopt the cat. Or, really, cat. It should have stayed one, but soon grew to two, then three. Any stray, she would be quick to adopt and add to their ever growing family. Randall hated cats, but loved Mary, and therefore three soon became four. As the years passed, Mary and Randall would keep anywhere from three to five, to even six or seven feline companions.

Then, twenty years ago from present, Mary disappeared. Something took her, Randall had told the town. A monster took her, he had raved. Having always been cut off from the rest of the town with his wife; a loner, anti-social, eccentric - no one believed his tales of strange happenings in the woods, creatures that went bump in the night. Bogeyman, ghosts. A sasquatch? Everyone believed that these were just the tales of a superstitious man whose wife had left him.

Now he keeps his beliefs to himself. Actually, he keeps most everything to himself. Once a loner, always a loner, Randy prefers his own company to the company of others. Except for those not-so-rare occasions where he can be found sat up at the bar nursing a drink and ogling the wait staff, especially if they were showing leg.

Notable Relationships: His five cats: Hector, Maisie, Ethel, Marshmallow, and Rufus. He is not close to anyone else in town, but maybe someone could find a place in his shriveled, old heart to be a friend?

BASIC INFORMATION
Full Name: Ephraim Ulysses Ryan
Nickname(s): Absolutely not.
Gender: Male
Age: 71
Ethnicity: Caucasian
Sexual Orientation: Sexuality is the lyricism of the masses.
Occupation: Richer than Croesus.

PHYSICAL DESCRIPTION
Face Claim: David Bowie circa Blackstar
Height: 5'10"
Weight: 130 lbs.
Eye Color: One blue, one brown. Guess which one is glass.
Hair Color: Gray by way of dark brown.
Prominent Features or Distinguishing Marks: One glass eye. Perfectly manicured fingernails. Attire chosen with forethought and intent. A willowy figure, pale as a ghost. Perfect posture. Delicate, ethereal features that conceal what lives within.

General Physical Description: Unassuming. Kind. A man like any other… until you look again. There’s something decidedly otherworldly about Ephraim Ryan, some intangible feature that it’s hard to quite put a finger on. It begins with his mismatched eyes and the way he carries himself. It always seems as if he’s looking right through you, as if he knows what you’re thinking, as if he’s winning a game that you didn’t even know that you were playing. He’s almost wrinkleless despite his age. Pale and thin in a way that would make anyone else look sickly. He keeps his hair slicked back and perfectly groomed; nary a split end in sight. His lips curl in a smile that is neither kind nor friendly; it is malicious and unknowable.

PERSONALITY DESCRIPTION
Personality Traits:
  • Machiavellian - There’s something to be said about what a man will do to achieve his goals.
  • Perfectionist - Everything must be just so.
  • Charming - Positively magnetic, but charm can be a dangerous thing in the right hands...
  • Ambitious - Where there is a will, there is a way.
  • Evil - Is it better to out-monster the monster or be quietly devoured?
Likes: Chess. Fine dining. Evening strolls. Power.
Dislikes: You, in all likelihood.

HISTORY
Biography: Ephraim’s life is full of blank pages, half truths, and full lies. These are the facts that are known.

Ephraim Ulysses Ryan came into the world during a blizzard on December 31st, 1950. The second son of Stanley Ryan II, Ephraim was born with a silver spoon in his mouth and never wanted for anything. He had the highest level of education, the support of his parents, and a large inheritance waiting for him in the not-too-distant future. Ephraim has spent the better part of his life in Dawn Chorus and, more specifically, residing in Birdsong Estate. However, it’s a well known fact that he spent several years in Europe in his late twenties and he generally carries himself with the sense of a well-travelled man.

Ephraim is the richest member of the Ryan Family, though no one seems to know where or how exactly he accumulated his money. Rumors abound of nefarious business dealings, black market trades, and secret handshakes in the highest echelons of power. The reality of where his fortune came from may never truly be known.

Now in his early seventies, Ephraim spends most of his time at Birdsong Estate and very rarely travels into Dawn Chorus proper. His presence is almost always seen as something of a bad omen. People who have had direct interactions with Ephraim describe him as a cunning man who always seems to be several steps ahead of everyone else in the room. Others describe him as charming and debonair, the very vision of what most people imagine when they think ‘high class’.

And, of course, there are those who would describe him as a monster…

Those people will be sorted out soon enough.

Notable Relationships:
  • The Ryan Family - Something to be said about blood and its consistency...
  • Grace Letts - His niece. Estranged.
  • Sheriff Ryan - His nephew. On speaking terms.

BASIC INFORMATION
Full Name: Julia Whitford
Nickname(s): Nope.
Gender: Female
Age: 34
Ethnicity: Caucasian
Sexual Orientation: Heterosexual
Occupation: Reporter for the Dawn Chorus Tribune

PHYSICAL DESCRIPTION
Face Claim: Gal Gadot
Height: 5'10"
Weight: 130
Eye Color: deep brown, almost black
Hair Color: dark brown
Prominent Features or Distinguishing Marks: Julia is significantly taller than most women, a feature exacerbated by her love of heels.

General Physical Description: Fine features, flawless skin, obvious money, and an intensity rarely found in small towns: Julia is intimidating. It's an facade she shamelessly cultivates, especially in her professional life.

PERSONALITY DESCRIPTION
Personality Traits:
  • diligent: little deters her, once her mind is set
  • bold: she'll ask the uncomfortable questions
  • curious: and all the other questions, as well
  • manipulative: limited to work
  • morally ambiguous: her husband is awful, sure - but is she? (she's not, but nobody knows that yet, including her)
Likes: running, good coffee, good wine, purpose, expensive heels and handbags
Dislikes: the unknown, the unwilling, the uneducated

HISTORY
Biography: School plays, business openings and closings, downtown parades: working as a reporter at most small-town newspapers is a pretty dull affair, and that's precisely what Julia expected when her soon-to-be husband asked her to move to Dawn Chorus. Sure, she yearned for more excitement than some sleepy mountain town could provide, but William - as usual - was unquestionably adamant.

Dawn Chorus, as she quickly discovered, was anything but typical.

Julia has been living in Dawn Chorus for approximately eight years, and during that time, she's been continuously bewildered by the amount of strangeness pouring into their small newsroom. Almost more bewildering, though, is the aggressive skepticism emerging from the leaders in town - the Sheriff, several members of the town council, even her own husband. These are people she must work with in a professional capacity, but many of them are also friends, and she's beginning to suspect that some are intentionally concealing things from her.

Julia resides with her husband on the most prestigious street in town, and their social circle counts many of the town's elite. Though she will drop into casual establishments while working, the Blue Rose is her standard haunt. She's an avid runner who is out most mornings around dawn - perfect for finding the bodies first, she jokes.

Julia and William have no children, a fact that's beginning to trouble him. In the past several months, he's been pressuring her to quit her job to focus on starting a family. But how could she? The story of The Missing Four is too good to walk away from…

Notable Relationships:
  • George William Whitford III - husband
  • Others TBD

PHYSICAL DESCRIPTION
Face Claim: Henry Cavill
Height: 6'1"
Weight: 200
Eye Color: Blue
Hair Color: Dark brown
Prominent Features or Distinguishing Marks: Jawline. Air of importance, impeccably groomed.

General Physical Description: William is an imposing figure, dressed in the finest suits, not a hair out of place. He has a smile that can be equally charming and condescending, depending on the recipient.

PERSONALITY DESCRIPTION
Personality Traits:
  • calculating: he learned from the best
  • manipulative: people are merely tools
  • corrupt: he's above the rules
  • charming: see also, manipulative
  • arrogant: wouldn't you be too if you looked like him?
Likes: Great suits, a good haircut, hunting, women, a fully-stocked bar.
Dislikes: Most everything "common."

HISTORY
Biography: How did George William Whitford III know that he was meant for prominence? Well, easy: he was born into it. The Whitfords have owned the largest, most prestigious law firm in Dawn Chorus for nearly a eighty years - his father, grandfather, even great-grandfather have been ensconced in the tapestry of the town, handling the legal business of elite enterprises, including the elusive Ryan family.

William met his wife Julia while in law school at Vanderbilt, and following his graduation, he took a lucrative and entirely expected job with the family business. Presently, his father, George Whitford, still heads the firm, but he's relinquished most of the work to his son, who then delegates it to junior lawyers on staff. There are some matters, though, that are handled only his father.

Privately, George Whitford is ruthless, but William is even more immoral than his father - he has no qualms about lying or manipulation, even to those he loves. He may or may not be involved in a few less-than-legal side-businesses. Girls, drugs, gambling: all vices that he justifies as owed to him as a result of his "success."

To most, though, including his wife, he is a pillar of the town: charming, well-spoken, and pleasant.

Notable Relationships:
  • Julia Whitford - Wife
  • George William Whitford II - Father (NPC)

Dislikes: People who think they're above others

HISTORY
Biography: It's not like Victor is from anywhere special. He's a lifetime resident of the town and really, he loves the place. He loves it so much he took up shifts at the library as a lad. He helped to sort out all sorts of files and to organize information. When old Oliver Edgerton, the former Archivist retired, he left the position to Victor.

But what he didn't tell him was that being the archivist and librarian in Dawn Chorus comes with...certain responsibilities, to say the least. The information eats at his mind, giving him lurid and frightening dreams and a compulsion to sort out this information, to provide it as need be...and he can just know things about the other residents...

Full Name: Elizabeth Pratt (nee: Hall)
Nickname(s): Mrs. Pratt will do (probably shouldn't try for Liz).
Gender: Female
Age: 32
Ethnicity: Caucasian
Sexual Orientation: Unknown. Quite possibly asexual.
Occupation: Real Estate broker and associate of Gideon Huxley; specifically, as it pertains to his land/property dealings.

PHYSICAL DESCRIPTION
Face Claim: Sylvia Hoeks
Height: 5'8"
Weight: A gentleman never asks -- yet, here you are, asking.
Eye Color: Green
Hair Color: Auburn
Prominent Features or Distinguishing Marks: Piercings: both lobes, left tragus. Tattoos: none to be seen.

General Physical Description: Imagine a Death Adder in a Chanel suit. She's beautiful -- elegant even – like the bladed edge of a stiletto, and just as prone to cut any would be clumsy handlers. Her attention is laser focused and she's looking right at you the way someone might a cockroach that's skittered out from under a cabinet. If she smiles, you can't imagine how it'd look. Though, there's a strong hunch that, on her, it'd seem ...wrong somehow.

PERSONALITY DESCRIPTION
Personality Traits:
  • Driven - Failure makes for meager sustenance.
  • Patient - If you wait, your opponent will usually say or do something stupid reveal their hand.
  • Choleric - Your very existence is probably a hurdle in her day. A minor inconvenience to be overcome and, hopefully, forgotten just as quickly.
  • Deceitful - That's actually called "good business sense." Go 'head and jot that down.
  • Cynical - She doesn't think much of ...well, most.
Likes: Tea (jasmine, Earl Grey, or many of the pearl varieties), hot. White wine (she's decidedly less picky when she decides to drink), chilled. Ample space for oneself. Leather (wearing it, touching it etc). Appreciable quiet.
Dislikes: People. Sentimentality. High emotions of any shade. Familiarity.

HISTORY
Biography:
The second born, Elizabeth had to learn to swim, early, or drown, quick. Things like failure, regret and timidity were weak words for weak people; those unable, unwilling or otherwise incapable of carving out a place for themselves in the shaping world. Fortunately, they make for wonderful steppingstones upon which one must trample to ever climb.

With a degree in her rearview, she'd set her sights next on an appropriate suitor. Preferably one with a large bank account, more grey hairs than not, and, if possible, one foot in the grave (functioning jewels not a requirement). Maxwell Pratt – former real estate magnate turned bed-ridden, tube-breather – had been that juicy get that catapulted Elizabeth from well-off to virtually untouchable. With Max (mostly) out of the way, she was free to see where next her fangs might pierce most effectively.

A wise man once said - "Buy land - they're not making it anymore."

Elizabeth, never one to ignore good advice, has taken that sentiment and run with it. Buying, selling, devouring her way through the upper East side before focusing her attention on smaller, more easily pressured sellers. Necessity making for strange -- but not always unfortunate -- bedfellows, a partnership with one Gideon Huxley has been more than mutually beneficial. Something about common sinners in familiar circles of Hell seems applicable here, but if you're curious about the rest -- buy the rights.

Notable Relationships: Gideon Huxley - strictly business

Sexual Orientation: Batting for the same team; homosexual. Except for that time in the club. And that other time in college. Then there was that other time after too many shots.
Occupation: Part-time receptionist at Dawn Chorus Community Center; part-time sales associate at Chorus Men’s Wear; part-time clerk at Shady’s Loan Services

PHYSICAL DESCRIPTION
Face Claim: Hale Appleman
Height: 6'2''
Weight: 170 lbs
Eye Color: Hazel
Hair Color: Dark brown
Prominent Features or Distinguishing Marks: What isn’t distinguishing about his features? Curls to die for, long lashes, dreamy bedroom eyes. Maybe don’t look too closely at the shadows under his eyes; he hides those with a little bit of foundation and some occasional eye-popping eyeshadow. He paints his nails to draw attention from the faint scars on his wrists and has a penchant for bright outerwear.

General Physical Description: Tall and lanky, but not as skinny as when he first arrived around a year ago (he’s lost a little bit of time, so dates and times towards the beginning blur together). His Nana has been feeding him right and often wonders, when she is lucid enough to realize that he lives with her. And while he doesn’t have a six pack, he’s as willowy as a bean stalk and has cheekbones to die for. Tall and nubile are the way to go, right? A full head of hair and dark curls that complements his bread and butter complexion that - really, you know the sun is bad for you, right? Doe eyes, lashes like a baby giraffe. Also that unerring sense of style that he brought with him all the way from the fab streets of New York City. He’s trying, and somewhat achieving, bringing potential fashion greatness to the residents of Dawn Chorus, because - ugh - does it have to be denim and plaid everything?

PERSONALITY DESCRIPTION
Personality Traits:
  • Flippant
  • Charismatic
  • A flare for the dramatic
  • Witty
  • Addictive Personality
Likes: Men, most of the time. (good) Clothes. Cult classics. Music that doesn’t make him want to stab pencils into his ear drums. Dark chocolate - of many different varieties. Caffeine, because that’s the stuff that makes you gogogo. Art. Other people’s life experiences, from someone else’s mouth. Nice smelling candles.

Dislikes: Bad dye jobs. Poor taste. Country accents. Religious talk. Garlic. Most pop culture. Denim and plaid, especially since moving to Dawn Chorus. Ignorance. Stupid questions. Cheap makeup. …The list can actually really go on and on and on.

HISTORY
Biography:
Jackson doesn’t like talking about … this. It’s been alluded to in casual conversation here and there around town that he came from money, but he blew off going to college to instead do … well, blow. Among other things. Since then, despite his parents’ best efforts to iron out the party boy that twenty something year old Jackson wanted to grow up to be and that a college degree wouldn’t help achieve, they got him a job working with an affluent name in fashion, {insert non-disclosure agreement here}.

With greatness, there also comes a great amount of responsibility, and that was something that Jackson didn’t want to have to deal with.

A handful of lawsuits and an extended stay at a rehabilitation facility later, his parents used one final tactic in order to shove some kind of responsibility down their only child’s throat. They cut him off from their finances and shipped him off to Dawn Chorus, TN under the premise that he would be taking care of his Nana from his mother’s side. He would be able to live with her rent free and provided for with a small allowance to cover expenses for both of them so long as he helped her with everything that she needed and found viable work himself.

A year (or thereabouts) later, Jackson still lives with long time resident Mable Joan Frederickson and holds three part-time jobs, each eclectic in their own way, and all of which he hates.

Notable Relationships:

  • His Nana, Mable Joan Frederickson; his grandmother from his maternal side and only living grandparent he has left. While it’s obvious that Jackson is staying in Dawn Chorus for an extended period of time in order to take care of his ailing relative, the circumstances of this responsibility remain ambiguous.
  • Yaya Bishop; his self-proclaimed Dawn Chorus bestie. Fellow city gal. Jackson had decided to take her under his wing while she’s in town, since he’s already been living there for a whole year.
  • Julia and George Whitford; unknown to them, however, Jackson harbors a crush on what he deems is the official ‘power couple’ of Dawn Chorus
  • Open to expand his social circle to some of the remaining population of Dawn Chorus, not that it’s much bigger to begin with. Definitely not Frank.

BASIC INFORMATION
Full Name: Abigail Ella Vance
Nickname(s): Abby. Bee was the affectionate nickname her father used.
Gender: Female
Age: 33. Exactly one month before Freya, in fact
Ethnicity: Caucasian
Sexual Orientation: Demisexual, bi-curious
Occupation: Counsellor at White Feather Community Hospital

PHYSICAL DESCRIPTION
Face Claim: Victoria Pedretti
Height: 5'3"
Weight: 121
Eye Color: Blue
Hair Color: Brown with an auburn sheen, sometimes highlighted blonde.
Prominent Features or Distinguishing Marks: Those big ol' baby blues, like a stormy sea. If eyes are a window to the soul then she's got it in spades. Kind of hypnotic, really...

General Physical Description: Abigail is a fair, petite slip of a woman with soft curves, a disarmingly sweet smile, and large expressive eyes framed with feathery brows. Her natural affinity for looking like someone you can confide in is, understandably, a great boon to her career choice. While working she can typically be found sporting a pair of black wire-rimmed glasses.

PERSONALITY DESCRIPTION
Personality Traits:
  • Empathetic - sometimes she feels. Too much.
  • Curious - maybe too curious for her own good.
  • Altruistic - with few exceptions (re: her late father).
  • Resentful - it's hard for her to let go of the past, especially when it has a way of creeping back up to her,
  • Prideful - mostly in her work and feeling like she knows what's best for everyone.
Likes: Oversized sweaters, cats, tea and lattes, a good book, lots of sunshine, new tastes (foodie!), rainy days, star gazing, budding interest in the esoteric, alone time.
Dislikes: Lack of planning / disorganization, sudden loud noises, bland food, rudeness.

HISTORY
Biography: Elsie Hudson, a nurse at the old clinic in Dawn Chorus, was swept up in a whirlwind romance with a charismatic salesman named Jesse Vance. They were married quickly but more than five years later Elsie still had no luck getting pregnant, creating a rift between her and Jesse. She prayed at the clinic chapel ritually. At His Holy Tabernacle. She prayed so damn much to no avail 'til one night on the drive home from her shift she spotted a sign sticking out between the gnarled branches en route reading: 'Mama Marguerite - IN'. Well, what could Elsie lose at this point?

Eight months later, a bit early but wholly perfect, Abigail arrived.

Growing up she lived a comfortable middle class life. Or as middling as you could get in Dawn Chorus. She believed everything was wonderful. Abby's parents doted on their little girl enough to overlook her very... big imagination. Sometimes whimsical but more often a debilitating fear of the dark, shadow people, etc. To cope, Abby was plied with books and crafts and a dusty tabby cat she named Minnie. Elsie often lovingly would cradle Abby up into her arms at bedtime to tell her how she prayed so hard to get her.

Time eroded the splendid image she had of her smiling parents. She was too young to remember the first time Molly Black Elk dropped by, only that there was a lot of shouting on the front porch. Molly continued her unannounced visits intermittently through Abigail's childhood, occasionally with a girl in tow around Abby's age with dark haunting eyes. Once when she was eight Abby stayed up after bed to watch her dad hurrying back inside with a slam of the porch door.

Dishevelled, he knelt down and looked at her intensely, saying, "It's not what you think." Think what? She was only a kid, after all.

Jesse Vance was a liar, Elsie said. Unable to take the embarrassment any more, she packed up and moved them way up to Illinois where she got a job in Chicago's Northwestern Memorial working the night shift. Abigail was thirteen when her mother told her everything about Molly Black Elk, about Freya. Despite the bad blood in Dawn Chorus and all the ignored calls, Elsie eventually let Abby visit her father the following summer until she was eighteen. She stopped visiting Jesse once she got into university where, after a cold start at nursing and slogging through degrees, she became a licensed Counsellor.

Two years into establishing herself she received a call from White Feather saying her father passed away. Cirrhosis, apparently. Abigail flew down for a bare bones funeral and to get the meagre estate in order. Jesse left their old house to Abby, along with a letter she won't open out of spite.

It's been three months since she returned for the funeral and Abigail is still living at her old house. She couldn't quite drag herself away... Often it can be found with lights on late into the night and wee hours thanks to a sudden recurrence of her childhood fear of the dark. To supplement her income she continues virtual sessions with existing clients as well as taking a position at White Feather Community Hospital.

Notable Relationships:
  • Elspeth "Elsie" Vance, née Hudson - Night nurse at Northwestern Memorial.
  • Jesse Vance - Father - Deceased
  • Freya Black - Half-sister - Hasn't spoken to her in over ten years.
  • Minnie - Does a cat count? Abby swears the little grey tabby's gotta be over twenty years old by now but still acts spry.

PHYSICAL DESCRIPTION
Face Claim: Julia Jones
Height: 5'7"
Weight: 135
Eye Color: Hazel
Hair Color: Dark brown
Prominent Features or Distinguishing Marks: Moon phase tattoo from the neck down. Loves wearing jeans and flannel coupled with her favourite leather jacket.

General Physical Description: Freya strikes a tall and imposing figure with cheekbones that cut like her tongue. She has a lean muscled frame highlighted by smooth skin almost always in a radiant state of olive glory, like she's glowing from the inside. Despite her initially rough mannerisms and semi-permanent furrowed brow, there's something deeply emotive in her warm eyes. Freya usually keeps her hair back in a low messy bun or pony tail, but sometimes lets it fall free.

PERSONALITY DESCRIPTION
Personality Traits:
  • Observant - no bullshit will fly under her radar.
  • Distrustful - she doesn't expect much from others.
  • Sassy - spirited and playful, but just as likely to bite.
  • Brusque - being blunt gets her by fine, thanks.
  • Sweet - if you get to know her.
Likes: Baking, jerky (snacks in general), sage, the great outdoors, her one and only leather jacket, chilly mornings, black coffee, Spotify.
Dislikes: Restrictive clothing, obnoxious assholes, prejudice, laziness, facades, moonless nights.

HISTORY
Biography: Freya was used to getting the short end of the stick, hence the chip on her shoulder.

Her mother, Molly, was perpetually between jobs and had a hard time scraping by enough for them to live on. Even then, they were holed up with her Gran', Sisi Black Elk, in a cramped bungalow on the outskirts of Hopewell, a small town east of Dead Horse National Park with a predominant Cherokee population. It was her grandmother who spent most of her time raising temperamental Freya in her youth while Molly was out working. From Gran, Freya learned to appreciate nature, old rituals and myths (the Two-Soul was a favourite) and pride of self. Most notably, a healthy respect for all things supernatural, including whatever lived in Dead Horse. Her fondest memories were of Gran' smelling like sage and wild bergamot which to this day still lingers around years after her passing.

From a young age Freya tried to work with her mother so they could make ends meet, apart from a scant envelope of money her mother would stuff into her purse after a visit to Jesse Vance. Freya recalled he had a wide smile that never quite reached his red-rimmed eyes. Then again, he had a hard time looking at her when she would be dragged out to his place or on the even rarer visits he made to Hopewell.

Entering high school, everyone knew about her deadbeat father living a life of luxury the next town over with a pretty blonde wife and white daughter. Freya never really gave a shit. She had her mom, her gran, and that was more than enough for her. As luck would have it she ended up meeting her half-sister around this time. During the third summer Abigail came to stay with Jesse, Molly ran errands in town and the girls would inevitably cross paths. To Jesse's surprise and Molly's chagrin, Abby and Freya didn't hate each other. They become something like friends. Yet when those summer visits were over their friendship faded too, until it dwindled to nothing over the decade Abigail hadn't come around.

One of the many jobs during her teenage years involved working in the kitchen of a bakery. It was there she discovered her love and talent for cooking but sans the opportunity to apprentice - do you ever really leave small town life behind? - it amounted to nothing. She indulges her hobby on the side instead. Now Freya makes a decent wage with flexible hours by splitting her time between guided hikes around the Five Caves and Dead Horse National Park, and currying supplies to nearby establishments from Hopewell to Dawn Chorus.

Notable Relationships:
  • Molly Black Elk - Mother
  • Hiawasee "Sisi" Black Elk - Grandmother - Deceased
  • Abigail Vance - Half-sister
  • Jesse Vance - Father - Deceased
  • Alan Cooper - One of the few people in Dawn Chorus she tolerates. Theirs is a special camaraderie.
  • Theo Collins - She's friendly with Theo and chats with her often after her deliveries to the Blue Rose.

Occupation: Land Surveyor

PHYSICAL DESCRIPTION
Face Claim: Sergei Bodrov
Height: 5'7"
Weight: 153 lbs
Eye Color: Green
Hair Color: Brown
Prominent Features or Distinguishing Marks: None

General Physical Description: What do you look like?

PERSONALITY DESCRIPTION
Personality Traits: Choose five.
  • Apathetic
  • Introvert
  • Shrewd
  • Observant
  • Cold
Likes: Underground 90s, 2000's rock bands. Nature, alcohol, animals, overall silence.
Dislikes: Religion, loud cars, ignorant people, wife beaters, politics, being called a Communist.

HISTORY
Biography:
Ruslan is probably one of the few foreigners that currently reside in the small Tennessee town of Dawn Chorus. Born in St. Petersburg, Russia in the 90s, Ruslan was able to get a moderate education despite the gross inequality and the turbulent economic times that he experienced growing up. This led him to aiming to seek life at a very young age in the post Soviet country to look for a potential career path that would one day lead him more to the West and attain a life where he could start his own roots and build up a foundation for himself.

Being an oddball, he was usually picked on for his usual quiet self and his unhealthy obsession of underground rock bands that found their way in music stores dotted through out the old city. It roped him in more and more with Western culture where pretty soon he started donning leather jackets from what little money he made working as a custodian for his school. Upon graduating primary school, he went about attaining a trade as it was better than trying to achieve a business degree and getting set up nowhere. In the year 2013, he managed to attain a visa where he lived in Germany near an United States Air Force installation and acquired a job as a contractor for an American land surveying company assigned at Ramstein Air Base where he learned the trade and perfected more at his craft. Eventually when the contracting year ended and the company was to relocate back to the United States, Ruslan was granted a work visa in an effort to stay with the company and be permitted to join them in New Jersey.

Ruslan lived and continued to work for the next several years in and around New Jersey, getting an apartment and slowly making his bones, he was given a pay raise and was able to get a supervisory role for new college interns who he help swayed into the crafts of surveying new utility lines being installed around the city. Eventually, the company was given a contract by the State of Tennessee to perform Lidar surveying and topographic surveying of Dead Horse National Park and Gilson Falls to gather enough data to produce a contour map of the area with prospects of additional surveying for the forestry teams. This was to be a two month expedition from New Jersey, which Ruslan was tasked with doing. Being a complete outsider, he'd taken the company Jeep Wrangler and loaded up enough equipment for this two month geospatial survey to make the trek on the interstate for his new home for who knows how long.

Notable Relationships:

[*] Anna Borispol - Mother - In Russia
[*] Vladimir Levchenko - Father - Abandoned
[*] Fyodor Borispol - Brother - Russia
[*] Romana Borispol - Sister - Russia

BASIC INFORMATION
Full Name: Jason McCoy
Nickname(s): Jay, Jake, but Jace is probably preferred
Gender: Male
Age: 27
Ethnicity: Caucasian
Sexual Orientation: Heterosexual
Occupation: Fix the broken things - all of them if possible.

PHYSICAL DESCRIPTION
Face Claim: Charlie Cox
Height: 6'3"
Weight: 225 lbs.
Eye Color: Brown
Hair Color: Brown
Prominent Features or Distinguishing Marks: No visible tattoos. No piercings. Appendectomy scar, another long scar on the left rib cage from a car accident. No birthmarks or other to note. Pronounced nose.

General Physical Description: Tall, short hair with a bit of a scruffy beard when gone untrimmed or touched for a few days. Pronounced nose, but otherwise calm facial features. A deceptive smile given the usual resolute expressions he may carry. Most days he's put together, some perhaps not. A vague sense of style about him, but comfort wins on most occasions nonetheless.

PERSONALITY DESCRIPTION
Personality Traits:
  • Determined
  • Calm
  • Clumsy
  • Thorough
  • Observant
Likes: Muscle cars, fishing, most music with vocals, comedy movies, fireworks, positive attitudes and outlooks, a sense of completion.
Dislikes: Uncleanliness, folks that run their mouths, not having a plan, people that don't care for guns.

HISTORY
Biography: Growing up, Jason had a knack for fixing things. He helped his old man fix whatever was broken and when the time came for him to take the reins it was natural. He took over like he it was something he had never not been doing. That transferred well into trade school for him. He spent some time certifying as an electrician and then travelled for a while before deciding he'd rather be in one place. His lack of resolution on certain jobs that he always had to leave left him uneasy and he didn't care it. He never liked to leave an issue unsolved, it felt wrong to him.

Settling down in Dawn Chorus, he offers himself as an electrician first and foremost but he is willing to fix nearly anything. In most cases it's not a matter of if he can fix it, it's rather a matter of if he doesn't know how - how long will it take for him to learn how to? He's struck a deal with Lamar Morrell - He runs a repair business out of the garage attached to the Liquor store and gets to live in the back room. It's not living the high life, but rent's cheap and for the most part he stays unbothered.

Notable Relationships: Closer relationships TBD.

Well known as the local "Fix-it" guy after taking over for Lamar in recent years.

BASIC INFORMATION
Full Name: Foster Therese Silky
Nickname(s): Foss. (Hoss, back in high school. As in, Why the long face?)
Gender: Male. (Uncomplicatedly so, until he thinks too hard about it, talks too much about it.)
Age: 27
Ethnicity: Mixed. (Grandaddy Jackson wasn't a white man. Past that, around that, who knows?)
Sexual Orientation: Unclear.
Occupation: Provided for. (Living's easy without rent to make.)

PHYSICAL DESCRIPTION
Face Claim: Max Fieschi. (So on and so on, etcetera and cetera, amen.)
Height: 5'7"
Weight: Willowy.
Eye Color: Darkly gray.
Hair Color: Outdoor-dog brown. (Some kind of deep red, when the sun shines through.)
Prominent Features or Distinguishing Marks: A streak of skin, fishbelly white, that runs from the off-center of his upper lip to the outer corner of one nostril — a fixed harelip.

General Physical Description:

His features repeat themselves. Long face; long, tired eyes; long sleepy neck, overtasked by the weight of his head. Long hangdog mouth, colour of a broken open plum, colour of a bruise.

His features contradict themselves. Sharp fine eyebrows like something drawn on; electrified hair, a misery of knots and curls, falling in his face and fleeing his face. Golden skin, waxy with the look of a seasoned indoorsman. Might appear taller or shorter than he is.

His features tell on themselves. Bad posture. Bad eye contact. Bad handshake. Bad bruises – pinches and hickies – that come and go on his body like motel guests.

His clothes look like they came out of an attic. He looks like he came out of an attic.

PERSONALITY DESCRIPTION
Personality Traits:
  • Reclusive – How long has he been back? Longer than you'd know.
  • Vague – Oh, you know…
  • (Em)pathetic – His imagination's overactive when it comes to the feelings of others: bright whirring projector, dark murmuring room.
  • Curious – To a fault, but idly so. (To a deepsea diver, swimming and sinking are the same.)
  • Scattered – Fascinated, almost-smart, but in a diffuse kind of way that's stopped him applying himself, or keeping to any given course for long.
  • Anxious – What he says: "No worries either way." What he means: "I am worrying both ways, and a secret third way also."
Likes: Fried green tomato sandwiches. Weak black coffee. Owl sounds. Dickinson, Rilke, Faulkner, Melville, Motown. The Jesus and Mary Chain. Joni Mitchell. Honey. New hobbies. The way mouthwash burns. Old things: waiting, found, loved and loving. Plums and peaches. Unsweetened cornbread. Yoga. Green olives, the coppery-tasting tinned kind. Growing things. TV white noise. Cinnamon chewing gum. Bubble baths. Beekeeping. Home — c.f. there's no place like…
Dislikes: Mac-n-cheese. Feeling seen or singled out. Remembering things he's forgotten to remember. Shaving. Not having shaved. His own handwriting. The Secret Garden nightmare: the room dragged to pieces around him, the blinds dragged away to let in the light, the ropes round his feet dragging him from bed and across the floor, down the stairs, through grass, through mud. His clothes feeling wrong on him, his skin feeling wrong on him. Bruce Springsteen. People wearing outdoor shoes indoors. There's no place like home, there's no place like home, there's no place like home.

HISTORY
Biography:

Foster's uncle Mallory – a man much given to sharp-elbowed nudging, whose joking voice was a liquid growl, and who died relatively young, in pain – always said, ruffling the boy's hair too hard, that Foster was a 'born killer'. The doctors said, at first, that Antonia Silky (née Glass), was pregnant with twins. (Blessed with. Cursed with. Praise be. She picked out clothes; she picked out names; she had a nursery piebald in red and blue.) They later revised this statement: she would only be having one child. (You ate her up, killer. Before you even had teeth to chew with.)

At the start of the 20th century, the Silky family was a cadet branch, an offshoot – to put it generously – of the larger and better regarded Marais clan, trueborn builders of and heirs to a grand old house called Abnegation. By the time Foster was born, that had stopped mattering to almost anyone that mattered. (Who cares the size of the dinosaurs, baby? Who cares how long their reign, how grand their bones? Come the comet, they dried up and died out, and well, look who was left holding the torch, the house, the mineral rights…) He was raised in idle and self-satisfied comfort, only child of a family that, by its own potted history, had already won the only battle worth fighting, and could spend the rest of time going to seed. If not rich, they were wealthy. If not so powerful as to take whatever they liked – no Ryans, no Westlands; no Marais', even, not anymore – their reach was enough that, should they want something, they likely already had it. If their luxury tapered over time, between bad investments, a pyramid scheme or two, an expensive brain hemorrhage and course of palliative care in the family, ease, the greatest and simplest luxury of all, never left them — only thinned and paled a little.

Lonely and intent, with a grand old house to play in, Foster maintained an imaginary friend until the age of 7. Her name was Iphigenia, a twin sister only he could see, but whose life he knew inside and out: every detail, parallelling him. (Her fears and favourite things. The stories only she seemed to know about their family. The secret places she went, and would tell him about, but would not let him follow. Her dolls with the strange made-up names, like things from Shakespeare, or the Lesser Key of Solomon: Lusabaga, Artemo, Candymion, Gryce, Earl Crying of Coldsnap Lake.) Aged 8, Foster didn't give up on Genie or get rid of her — only learnt that he ought not to talk about her anymore.

School was murder. Quiet was a comfort. Home was a shelter from the storm of a world that made less and less sense every day.

Things fell through, fell apart. The road, a wild old dogwood tree, a bottle of rye and bellyful of creekwater, six-to-eight hours of trapped and delirious agony, and the malformed front half of his beloved old-timer killed Uncle Mallory. Daddy died too, three stretched-thin years after the brain hemorrhage. (Silky men die young, allegedly, but he looked so old by the end: wasted and wordless, surrounded by loved ones, none of them knowing him so well as to have a damn thing to say about him.)

Accepted into college, it's unclear whether Foster actually attended, or just used it as an excuse to bolt. Drove west, a little north maybe, in a powder-blue BMW with an undershot jaw and headlamp eyes like a scared dog. He was gone seven years.

Abnegation rotted. Its gardens overgrew. Mama resumed her maiden name then shed it again; remarried, fleeing to the Florida Panhandle. One day, alone and unobserved, a sinkhole opened in Abnegation's cutting garden and went undiscovered for a week. Over the course of months, it swallowed a quarter of the house. Empty, with no residents to say otherwise, people started calling it Hole House. (Ironic, as whole is what it no longer was.)

A year or so ago, Foster returned. He's lived in Hole House ever since. An honesty box has appeared on the verandah, accepting dues for jars of honey, trash disposed of in the sinkhole, and from the vans and trailers that put down and pull up roots in the gardens, or use the deep folly of the Cold War bunker for self-storage.

Notable Relationships:
  • Antonia Amaral, formerly Silky, née Glass — Still his mother, for as long as the occasional phonecalls keep up.
  • Charlene Liddle — High school ships in the night.
  • Frank Liddle — 'Ships in the night' is still enough to put you on a watchlist, as far as some big brothers are concerned.
  • Yancey Klump — High school. Started at least 14 inconclusive bands together, depending on how you count.
  • Carlos Del Campo — As manager of Krenshaw Trailer Park, Carlos is both Foss's nextdoor neighbour, and responsible for a business that the Silky family may or may not – at least partially – own. Foss, however, is lackadaisical about collecting his cut.
