Truth be told, she was bored. Bored of it all, bored of the immortality, bored of the presence of other immortals. Humans? Now they were fun. So, she made a point to take a host, usually a particularly devout follower of her faith, and possess them, usually for a good night on the town. This was no different, she was possessing a member of a bard's entourage, drinking and singing and just taking in the ambiance of the tavern.

She knew the names and faces of every single follower of hers. Even the ones that didn't like to worship so much. They were especially fun to play with. But their was one she took a great interest in. His name was Derek, and he was the son of a prominent family who wanted only the best for him. They surrendered him to knighthood and gifted him the Goddess's charm as protection but he wasn't nearly as devout as he should have been at the time. She had never done anything for him, what was the point of showing her praise if she didn't do anything worth praising? It was all just superstitious nonsense meant to keep him from acting out. He thought it was a crock of shit.

She made a point to try and follow him around, try and see what he was up to. She loved playing around with him. She hated to admit it, but he did have a certain charm to him.

Any time she was around to mess with him, she took the form of a raven. And he seemed to notice right away that it was the same one. Too much of a coincidence for his liking. Especially in regions ravens weren't very prominent.

She would follow him around, looking at him, squawking and crowing, sometimes walking alongside him.

She laughed to herself, coming out as avian chattering as she took flight and circled over his head.

He snorted and continued on his journey, hoping this bird didn't take a liking to him, unaware of its true nature.

The bird ducked low, swooping back and forth in front of him. It was only as he followed the bird that he noticed something up ahead. Did someone hide from him? Bandits?

The raven continued to loop ahead of him, before it appeared to dive down at the bandits, and Derek could hear a pained cry before a bandit stumbled out, and the raven was hopping and trotting away from him quickly.

What was it doing? Did it try to warn him about the bandits? He grabbed his sword and brandished it, watching and waiting. "State your business." He ordered.

The bandit hissed and stumbled out. "Yer damn bird did ye a lot of good jus' now, but I'm gonna need yer pockets empty." He said

"Yer a knight, aint ye? If the little one 'adn't got in tha way, we woulda sold ye off as ransom. But yer mighty lucky. Now, we're just gonna kill ye, and loot the body!" The bandit said, cackling.

"When there's four of us? One don't mean a lot." He said, and three ofhter bandits emerged from the trees.

The raven sat and watched, unblinking, unmoving besides the errant twitch of the head, as the bandits swarmed the knight. And it was still there when the fighting was over.

His armor was covered in blood, not once touched by their weapons. It was like a great and massive power filled him through the fight, slowly pumping out with each beat of his heart, "What the...?" He reached and pulled the pendant from his armor and stared at it before he looked to the raven.

She busted up laughing at the hilarity of it all, but it only came out as the raven chattering at him.

He scowled and turned away, "Whatever...tell your master she's doing a real lousy job if it's taken her this long to notice me." He said before continuing on.

She continued to do this, pointing out traps along the way. She told herself it was to mess with him, but in truth, how dare a mortal say she was doing a bad job? What did he know anyway.
