I'd say no on my part. I think there is something real and genuine about rping with someone who does make mistakes and that you can have a genuine conversation with and sometimes even nerd out with. The back and forth is there. However the constant that is an AI would make for an interesting exchange of back and forth but hands down I still prefer the real deal just because there is years of experience there and an AI just doesn't have that built into it where they have been around in the rp community.

You don't have to, there are many free options (though quality varies).

My comment addressed your assertion that "The AI is owned and controlled by a corporation which wants to profit off of you in some way", by pointing out that nowadays you can create your own LLM from scratch, complete with your own preferred baked-in biases, but training an LLM is computationally intensive and powerful hardware is not free.

This has little to do with RP and more with the nature of the technology, levels of trust, and capitalism.

That said, to avoid drifting too much off topic, I would be happy to continue this conversation elsewhere (if you want to).

That person isn’t me, the one who mentioned the anti-capitalist concern You’re right, self-hosting negates those concerns fairly tidily, though it is still economically gated. Past that it’s a philosophical concern, which I don’t feel like diving into.
