Order & Chaos. Right & Wrong. Murder & Justice. (Greeneyed23 & Lady Bloody Ava)

That... that was a surprise. Morgan actually loved her? She presumed that she was asking these questions to see if he noticed her growing affection for him. She looked from his handsome face, afraid that she could not say what she wanted while looking him on the eyes.

Instead she held one of his hands in hers and observed his upturned palm in her hand. The other used fingers to skim the calloused surface of his powerful hands. "I love you too Morgan. I love you and the idea of you going back to the Hurts makes me want to be selfish and find a way to keep you at my side. Do you think less of me for that?"

"No My Lady. I would stay at a single word from you...but for the Hurts...if they were to release me to your service."

As she touched him she could feel his rapid pulse in his hand.

He was whispering.

"And I could never think less of you My Lady. You are perfection itself. The ultimate ideal of beauty and goodness..."

He wanted to say more. He craved to. But he could not.

She was nobility. And love him or no, he would not disrespect her. It was not in him. The very idea reviled him.

His eyes roamed her face, trying to find a way to tell her how much she meant to him. What he longed to do with her. How very much he wished to take her into his arms.

But he could not. He could not even speak such madness.

Many men had attempted to woo the Lady as she blossomed into a young woman and such honeyed words did not work on her, but hearing them from Morgan made her heart skip a vital beat. A heat that rivaled a thousand suns inflamed her cheeks at his compliment. Perhaps it was because she knew that his words were genuine. There was no avoiding his gaze for long.

This man was her weakness. The calm of the moment was interrupted by the sound of flapping wings and a raven with a note appeared in the open windowsill. She walked over and retrieved the message and the bird promptly flew off. It was just how the message from Arlan had arrived. Her eyes scanned the message and the surprise was written on her countenance. "Everyone else will be here in two days' time. All of them, apparently."

It only reminded her that Morgan would be leaving her all too soon. "Morgan... several 7th warriors... for you." It was just a thought that came to mind as she looked from all of the names he had given her originally, including Arlan. "Lord Hurt trusts you with his life, so it may not be that easy, but... maybe it would be best to make this proposal in person? To Lord and Lady Hurt themselves?" There went the butterflies again.

He closed his eyes and took a deep breathe.

"If you were to ask i would offer Lord Hurt anything to accept My Lady. I would gladly stand by your side for all time."

He opened his eyes now. He looked into her eyes, willing reality to change. For her to be his. And his only.

Inside were butterflies. The very idea that she and Morgan may actually be able to stay together gave her goosebumps. At the same time, she did not want to get her hopes up. It was all so frustrating. As a noblewoman, she damned judgment and hugged the man out of nowhere. "This is not fair. I lost my mother, father... I do not want to lose you too, Morgan." The man may not have hugged her back and she would be content. "I.. I need to have a moment, excuse me." This was a moment to visit her parents and have chat with them.

It may seem silly, but her escorts knew their Lady and the love for her family. Arlan appeared out of nowhere and she felt it was due time to visit her precious horse. "Come with me, Arlan. Morgan deserves some time to himself." The man was surprised at the care that such a noblewoman held for those that many would deem 'beneath them'. For the remainder of the day, it almost felt as though Bella was running away from Morgan. She and Arlan could be seen smiling and laughing when they got back from her ride.

She had a lot to get off of her chest and filled the 7th warrior of what was happening. Arlan admitted that he sensed that there may be some potential between his comrade and Lady Vontrell. From there he told stories of Morgan in his more relaxed moments. It was a thing that she could not believe and laughter filled the air. That smile upon her face was refreshing. It was more so when Arlan pointed out that if the Hurts were anything like her, he believed that the others would be more than happy to devote themselves to their family.

Before she knew it, the evening was upon them. She had worked up an appetite requested that Arlan and Morgan actually join her to eat. "It gets lonely sitting at such a big table by myself."

But he did.

It was quick. Quicker than quick. But when she hugged him, he returned it. He curled about her, and his hand cupped her back, holding her to him.

It was a wild chance. But he risked it. for her. So she would not doubt his feelings.

Arlan did insist on swearing to her service once he knew the details though. Thus he could never reveal her secrets. "I have never seen Morgan in love before. i did suspect. He isn't a virgin, it is part of the rite of passage for young boys in the camps. But he has never been one for the usual distractions of military life. Should you succeed in making him your own you will have the most loyal man possible. and likely one of the few alive you can be sure will never even try to take command of you or your family lands."

His stories about Morgan were many. and most included Raiden. The student and the master.

Everyone had seen that Morgan had begun to surpass his mentor, but Morgan had steadfastly refused to make it official. No one could doubt his love and respect for Commander Raiden.

Arlan even shared with her that Morgan had given up his own salary that Raiden's widow be taken care of for the rest of her days. The Hurts had then doubled his salary so he had some funds, and had ordered him to save some for himself. He had obeyed, but his attention to his wards left all the money unspent.

He never went anywhere. he did not drink. he played cards but he did not gamble money. He did his duty and trained.

And now...he loved Arabella.

Morgan had said nothing about it. And never would unless he had the right. But Arlan knew him. And knew that Morgan had found his truth in her.

And freely told her so. "I have never seen him better. He thinks only of pleasing you. Of being a good Commander for you. Of being yours. His advice is sound. And his wisdom stretches farther than he will ever admit. But his blades are his gift. and he is giving them to you. Do not take that lightly My Lady. With those blades he offers you all he has and all he is."

Time flew by as Arlan told stories of Morgan and gave her more information on the man that protected her from many people. Bella did not care that Morgan had bedded another woman. It appeared as though the man was in love with one thing and it was his duty. Well... now there were two things. As Arlan spoke his last words of wisdom to her, the woman's face was bright red.

Arabella was humbled and extremely grateful for the Commander. Arlan was amused to see her reaction. It has been ages since he laid eyes upon a noble with such a pure heart. Morgan was one hell of a lucky bastard, but if anyone deserved this moment, it was him. Arlan groaned slightly and caught the young woman's attention.

"Are you okay, Arlan?"

That whiskered face laughed lightly with a matching smile, "I did not mean to alarm you, My Lady, I am just eager for the others to arrive here tomorrow. They are quite a variety of characters, that is for sure. Morgan is one of a kind and I like to believe that we all are." Arlan escorted his Lady arm and arm and in a moment he noticed that she did stop and hug his arm.

"Take no offense when I say this, but if I had a shot at an older brother..." The man laughed in the heartiest of tones.

"It would be my honor to have a young Lady, such as yourself as my sister," though it was a bit of a jab at the heart to be considered brother rather than a runner up to Morgan. The man just couldn't seem to get a break. He pulled out the chair for his Lady, before waiting for the Commander to join them.

"If I have to command him to sit, I will. I learned that from Lord Hurt," that light laugh brightened the atmosphere. Memories of that evening with the Hurts and her father were precious. The aroma of food dancing in the air from the kitchen snagged her attention.

Morgan entered then, looking stolid and grim.

"My Lady."

He moved to Arlan and took him aside.

The escorts sat on either side of her as the two men left with bows.

The escorts knew nothing, but stood by Arabella protectively.

Then Morgan entered the room once again, holding a man she knew well by the hair. His face was bloody.

"My Lady, Ernest here wishes to speak to you about something."

Bathilde came out of the kitchen her face purple with fury. Arlan trailed her. "Bathilde!"

She ignored him as she brought her largest spoon up like a blade, aimed at the smith's son. "You put rotted meat in my kitchen you sniveling weasel! I will break your blasted head!!"

She swung the spoon.

Morgan yanked him back out of the way then caught the spoon. "Bathilde there is slightly more than just that. He was aimed at her Ladyship."

Ernest cowered back, a suspicious puddle and wet spot under him and between his legs.

Arlan stared after the hefty Bathilde in awe.

Morgan turned to Arabella. "It seems he was promised access to the...harem if he ensured you got ill at the right time since he delivers the meat."

Ernest was a sniveling coward. A hanger on around the powerful. Lacking brains or a spine he tendee to follow whoever had something to make him feel strong and/or powerful. Lucius had been his idol.

Arabella knew that Morgan taking Arlan was news and she did not question it. It took a moment of being alone and curiosity to get her to turn her head just in time to see Morgan emerge with a familiar face in a bad state. Even if Ernest was to comply, Bathilde head her own choice words for the lad.

Anyone tampering in the kitchen was sure to earn her wrath, though it only caused more questions to arise. Thankfully Morgan was there to provide a bit of an answer. The look on Arlan's face at Bathilde's reaction would be saved for amusement at an appropriate time, but for now, she needed answers.

"I am confused..." she looked at the sniveling Ernest who was clearly shaken, "who would stand to gain from my being ill? Who would make you such a ludicrous offer?" The hurt, yet kind demeanor of her question gave him pause, but the powerful people that were her guardians were at the forefront of his mind. They could easily snap his neck and not bat an eyelash. He had heard the stories.

"You stand no chance, Ernest. Your actions now will only dictate just how severe of a punishment you will be delt. If a harem is enough for you to risk this much then I can not trust you and you must be handled here an now. If I gave you a second chance there is no telling whether or not you would trade my life for a chest full of gold. So... speak or Morgan and Arlan will have to find out for me. From the looks of it, they may have already convinced you."

There was the question of how Morgan found all of this out, but she would ask him later.

Ernest whimpered. "He hit me!"

Morgan nodded. "I did. When he tried to stab me."

Ernest pouted.

Morgan said nothing else.

Arlan smirked. "How many times?"

"One backhand slap."

Arlan stroked his beard, masking an amused smirk. He had taken harder hits from morgan just today.

Ernest whined. "Lucius was a good Lord! You don't deserve to be in his chair. You bi-!'

His voice cut off wetly. Morgan spoke very softly. "I woll allow your speech if you must make one. But you will not insult Lady Arabella Ernest."

"Or what?!"

Arlan and even Bathilde winced.

Arlan knew Morgan. And Bathilde knew Ernest. The fool had a big mouth. And he always ran it at the worst times.

Morgan gripped the back of Ernest's head.

That was all.

But Ernest screamed as if he was being tortured.

"Now. Speak. And remember Ernest. No insults for Lady Arabella. And adress her properly."

Ernest sniffed, his entitled demeanor still unbroken. "Lord Lucius was the true master. He gave me much. Including ways to take you down you...My Lady."

Morgan arched a brow and dropped a large green sack before Ernest. "You mean this?"

Ernest stared at the sack and went very pale.

"Open it Ernest."

"No. I won't. I wo-"

Morgan gripped his head again and Ernest squealed pitifully and hustled to obey. A dead snake fell out in his jumbling fingers.

Morgan said nothing but Ernest went even more pale.

The snake had no wounds but was very very dead. Even beginning to rot.

"I...i..."

"Its winter Ernest. Snakes do not handle winter well."

"Well...I...here!"

He went to throw it but he was slammed to the floor by his hair so hard that the snake just flopped onto his chest and face.

He screamed and sputtered slapping it away.

Morgan lay a sword over his throat. "You just attempted to kill Lady Arabella."

He looked to Arabella for the final say. His eyes were utterly cold and empty.

Only she could save him now.

But he would not accept it. "No! No! You cannot kill me! I am protected! Lord Lucius promised! He promised me safety! You cannot kill me!!"

He tried to bat the blade and snake away.

Morgan held him down with the single blade, and the snake.

Arlan muttered. "Black desert viper. Had he kept it alive it would have killed the entire household with a few drops of venom in the water supply. Bathilde...did you burn the meat?"

She shook her head, staring at the mad young fool.

"Dont. My Lady may i go tend to this?"

"You tried to stab Morgan?" she repeated in absolute astonishment. In Bella's mind, she imagined Morgan to be invincible and would only die by his own choice, like his mentor. The idea that someone would even try to take away another precious person from her, spelled his fate.

The Lady stood in place as Ernest tried to praise her brother for his faux leadership and he barely got a chance to insult the actual Vontrell heir before Morgan flexed in loyalty in a warning to the foul git.

Just as she thought that it could get no worse, more was revealed. "A snake?!" Her brother had truly intended to kill her. There were moments where she felt horrible for having ordered her brother's life taken. This only reminded her that her decision was sound and right.

This poor idiot was blinded by her brother's promises. Enough to make an attempt at her life. There was no denying that she was frightened when he did it, but Morgan was as swift as ever.

One look into the Commander's eyes reassured her that if anyone attempted on her life there would be coming back from it and she agreed. Bathilda's voice caught her attention and was answered with a nod of approval.

"You will follow Lucius in the afterlife and see if he protects you there. Morgan, when you are done join me in my study, I think I have lost my appetite."

Morgan rejoined her not ten minutes later.

His armor was spotless.

"Bathilde and Arlan are checking the entire kitchen and i have my people checking the grounds. This room is secure My Lady. And I shall be with you until your bedroom is secured."

He so wanted to say and stay more. But he still could not.

He did shut the door and took a deep breathe. Then spoke. "My Lady... I am sorry for my failure. You might have died tonight. I could not..."

He looked into her eyes trying to tell her how much the idea infuriated yet also terrified him. She could not die. He could not bear it.

He gazed into her eyes, struggling to communicate. He longed to touch her. Hold her. Kiss her....but he did not dare.

He could not disgrace her. Would not. His entire being fought the very idea.

She was everything to him now.

Lady Vontrell used paperwork to distract her mind but that was until the familiar silhouette of the Commander filled her peripheral vision. At first, she listened to his report on the situation and was moved when he apologized.

"Morgan... I am never more calm, more whole, or more healthy than when you are by my side. You are the most reliable person in my life, right now. Your reliability is only a small part of why I have a fiery passion for you. You will never be a failure in my eyes and I will work hard just to have you as any woman wants a man that she desperately desires. Until then, we will remain in our respectful roles, painfully aware of our feelings for another with no footing to act upon it... yet."

While she had a strong feeling that the loyalty and steadfastness of Morgan's lifestyle and teachings would keep him rooted to his position in life, it was hard not to want to kiss him. Now it was her turn to heave a sigh of frustration.

"Tomorrow I meet the rest of your comrades and we will be one step closer to..." though she sounded confident, the untouched girl felt a searing blush consume her face causing her to look down at the papers upon her desk before speaking. A blessing in disguise that was a knock upon the door to confirm that her bedroom was checked and secure.

Goodness gracious, her body was all kinds of riled and she was a bottle of pent up feelings and tension. "Good timing. I am tired." Maybe a moment away from Morgan and to herself would cool her head off. "Anything else, Commander?" she asked before walking over to the door.

The next day would be rather bustling as a party of people would make their way into the walls of her home. Again with these damned feelings. Last night it was a searing tension, now it was a swarm of butterflies and she could as herself was why?

Bathilda was watching her like a hawk. She managed to get out of eating last night, but this morning her food had been taste tested, a note that Bella was not too fond of, and served by the motherly woman herself. The woman even ordered that she eat while her guests sat in wait!

"They are Morgan's friends, he can keep them entertained, but you need to eat. Your father would be beside himself, bless his soul. Lord Vontrell would give you this look every time you thought not to eat and you would eat without question." It was a memory that made both women smile.

"No My Lady. Rest well."

Morgan actually had them all out drilling. He was merciless.

The snow was falling heavily. And still they were hard at work.

But then also so was he. Stripped to just his breeches, tunic, and boots he was right in the middle of the drilling, leading by example.

And even through the clothing the serving girls and others were marveling at his body. His arms were pillars of muscles. His legs tree trunks. And his broad shoulders were held up by a chest harder than steel and seeming to have been made to the size of a barrell.

Even the largest of his friends could not match his size.

And his strength seemed endless. The girls were loudly oohing and aaahing over him, and more than a few were wondering how fearsome he was in the bedroom.

And they had managed to extract a few rumors from his friends. Of a camp follower who had fallen in love with him after a single night and had followed him through an entire campaign.

Of a lovely young whore in a distant city who had refused payment after.

And other such tales.

Of course no one spoke of these things openly before the Commander or Lady Vontrell, but she still heard them.

Bathilda was adamant that her Lady would eat generously before heading off to see to the potential retainers that would be proposed to Lord and Lady Hurt. There were the usual butterflies and felt a heat engulf her cheeks upon seeing Morgan. The sight of the Lady would not be missed by her visitors. A snow angel dawning a snow blue cloak with a halo of white fur around her face. Those breathtaking blue eyes a focal point that even her enemy could not dismiss.

"I am Lady Arabella Vontrell and I am pleased to meet you. It is no surprise to see that you all are no less than what the Commander says you are, powerful in your own ways, now... may I welcome you inside and we can get all the more acquainted with drinks to warm you up?" The various people looked like an impressive force. Still, she hoped that it would be enough to get Morgan all to herself.

Every time she thought about it, she felt all more selfish, but it was a desire that she was insistent upon. The warmth was welcoming and her cloak was removed. The long table was where things were taking place. Servant girls and men were eager to please and serve. Drinks were readily available and food for her guests.

"Well... I want to be open and honest with my intentions. If Morgan has not told you already, I am hoping that Lord and Lady Hurt... his current Masters, will employ you in exchange for him." Now the nerves were starting to rattle but her conquest was clearly at the forefront of her mind. "They are... kind beyond words. Morgan's loyalty to them must say it all..." A servant girl walked up to the Lady with urgency in her eyes.

"Excuse me for a moment," the Lady politely requested as the girl whispered news, none too convenient for the girl. Please tell him that I am very busy and in the middle of an important meeting." The girl had apparently told the stubborn man that was insulted that he could not, at least, be seen to her side. This was getting ridiculous. Lord Avery Codwell was a young arrogant man merely because he was a distant cousin to the king. Such arrogance got him in plenty of binds and many innocent people punished crudely for no reason. The proud peacock thought to show his feathers at her doorstep. The man was worse than Lucius, which was surprising.

"Commander, we seem to have a guest, would you kindly see him out the door, please and thank you and then rejoin us?"

Morgan bowed and stepped out of the audience.

Then they could hear Codwell whinging and screaming.

Then saw him as Morgan carried him by his belt through the house and out to the main gate, along with his luggage.

He hurled luggage and owner out, then slammed and locked the gate, turning and barking an order to seal it that even at this distance made everyone jump with its suddenness and volume.

Then as requested he trooped back to where he had been.

One of the retainers raised a hand. "Milady I do mean no offense but I have little doubt that Commander Morgan has forged quite the force for the Hurts. Is it not possible to exchange those of us with command experience for him? In trade for an understanding that in the event of war he should command both the forces of the Hurts and your own?"

Morgan said nothing.

The speaker was a woman of at least 35 years. Dark skinned and with cunning eyes. Her name was Tianna she and her companion, Jenna, stood side by side taking it all in.

Morgan had warned Arabella that these two were smart, quick, and cunning.

"No offense taken, at all," with that idea put in the air she could no longer sit still and decided to stand up. Hands wanted to fidget but stayed laced before her as she walked a few feet and stopped on the spot. Eyes looking nowhere in particular. "It is a brilliant idea, no surprise, given the person that came up with the idea." A smile was gifted to the ladies. It was no surprise to those of the Vontrell Clan how their Lady treated those as though the hierarchy did not exist, but at the same time, took her role seriously.

"I know you just got here, but I want to take this proposal to Lord Hurt sooner rather than later," that soft lower lip was trapped between her pearly white teeth in a momentary look of anxiety. "Not today, but perhaps tomorrow? For now, I want you to make yourselves comfortable. You are my guests, but please... I would love to get to know you all." A clap of the hands and food was brought out and servants with drinks to offer.

Bella took no time switching seats and sitting next to the woman that threw out the opinion and her friend. "You obviously know who I am, so, please... what are your names and what do you enjoy doing?" Perhaps an odd question, but the girl was looking forward to getting to know those that she was sending to her family friends.

Tianna introduced herself and her 'companion, Jenna.

It was instantly clear they were more but the Empire did not approve of homosexuality in a legal sense, though the old laws outlawing it had been struck down after an especially heinous series of murders in the Capitol.

The ladies were game players. chess. cards. puzzles. and thinkers.

Tianna was also the sneaking dagger wielder, while Jenna was an archer. And both did slightly qualify their suggestion. "We ourselves would not be the best choice for this trade idea. We are not...appropriate."

In other words the Imperial Court and it's machinations would not allow them to rise in rank. Morgan moved by, setting down drinks for the three of them, and Tianna gently touched his forearm. "Morgan, would you object to us working here for Her Ladyship under you?"

"I would welcome it. I need your sharp eyes and your quick minds would be invaluable in protecting Her Ladyship."

He did not look at Arabella, and his voice did not change, yet somehow it was clear that he considered her health and safety of paramount importance."

"And what rank would we achieve under you?"

"Lieutenant minimum. I am to undergo my trial for my Captaincy in two years. Should you remain i will personally promote you both to Commander that same day."

They both blinked. Officer had been denied them always because of their lifestyle, and no Commander had been willing to risk his reputation for his soldiers thus.

Morgan clearly cared little for such things. he knew their worth and would have them properly rewarded thus.

Arabella was confused when the lady said that the duo was not "appropriate" for the trade. Regardless, without saying a word, Morgan's movement caught her eye as he joined the other two. Lady Vontrell merely listened to the conversation and was moved to see Morgan instantly accept their request. By now there had to be no questioning that she's held absolute faith in the man.

Why would she question him about such a decision? Mind you, they were a gorgeous set of women. Even she could not deny that if their wits were as lethal as their looks, they were a talented and powerful force to be allied with. A warmth consumed her cheeks that took a moment for her to realize. Was that jealousy?

Oh my goodness... what is wrong with me?

This she had to think to herself. Though the rosy hue to her cheeks took its sweet time to subside. "Morgan has told me plenty about your skills and I would only feel safer with you allied with my clan and its people." Between her hands sat a silver goblet with a deep red fluid in it. Her reflection looked back at her with ripples obscuring the surface as she picked up the drink.

It was nerves. Lord and Lady Hurt were trusting Morgan with the life of their unborn child and here she was trying to get him all to herself. The girl could not shake this feeling of guilt. "What say we leave on the morrow. If the Hurts do not agree, then... at least I have people that I can still rely on to protect me." Despite having voiced it, it was clearly not an outcome that she wished to see.

Early the next morning began with the lightest of snow. The sun had barely begun to rise and Bella had problems getting her mind to turn off last night. Lady Vontrell found herself awake sooner rather than later and got herself dressed without assistance. An unbelievably soft fur cloak was wrapped around her shoulders and flowed down.

It felt like being hugged by a cloud and made the girl's countenance and title far more pronounced. The venture there would take some time and there were risks of bandits but given the company accompanying them, it would have to be some rather confident people to try and oust warriors that would be joining her. The morning seemed to have gone by rather quickly. She fond herself being escorted toa carriage without even remembering how she had gotten there or if she had even eaten, for that matter. This trip was not new to her, but without her father and with a serious purpose made this all the more serious.

She had indeed eaten.

And had a list of the beat possible replacements with the Hurts for Morgan. He had supplied it over breakfast. And picked up on her distraction.

Tianna and Jenna were in the carriage with Arabella. Having sworn to her service officially no matter the outcome, they were now her bodyguards.

The women were currently holding hands, their heads resting together on Tianna's shoulder.

Morgan marched up. "My lady we are departing now."

He attached the small carriage stove into it's slot, and bowed to her, then mounted up.
And they were off.

They were quite the column. Arabella was able to watch as her remaining forces sealed her home and it's defenses, then her beloved hometown.

Morgan rode beside the carriage, present for questions or orders.

This venture was sure to be a lengthy one. There were butterflies fluttering about in her belly and a slew of 'what ifs' on her mind. It was ludicrous how hard it was proving to clear her thoughts. They came in the form of a barrage, one after another. She looked over to the latest additions to her protection. They were an adorable sight. Morgan had told her everything about them. Morgan's voice caught her attention and she gifted the man a nod of acknowledgment.

A blush danced across her cheeks and she turned those regal eyes to look towards the opposite side of the carriage. Bella wanted to pave a way for Morgan to be at her side. Not as just a Commander, but recognized as a person that she could give her heart and soul to without persecution. It made her blush and smile lightly at the idea of how Morgan could be around children.

The man was as stoic as they came, at times, but she saw the warmth in him. Of course, it would be too much to ask for this trip to go smoothly. Winds could be heard picking up, but the sun could still be seen. She was warm, and the carriage rocked her into a light sleep. Tears welled up in her sleep. The last moments with her father continued to haunt her. When she awoke it came as a surprise when she wiped the sleep from her eyes only to find them glistening.

A heavy sigh sounded from soft lips to see he cute couple across from her. "Thank you for joining my family. I am not used to such an undisturbed ride, but given the rather intimidating company, someone would have to be both desperate and stupid to interfere with our venture. I just hope the Hurts will agree."

That unborn baby was, no doubt due anytime now and the Lady found herself excited. "Have you any stories to pass the time?"

They both laughed. "We have many My lady. The question is what kind of tales do you wish to hear?"

Morgan knocked on the wooden slat that served as the windshield on his side. Jenna opened it. "Sir?"

"We are eating in the saddle. The storm coming is too dangerous for delay. i do apologize My Lady."

He drew out a large packet. "If you put these on the stove they will be quite enjoyable. Be sure to drink a large portion of your water My Lady."

He pressed the packet into her hands, and she recognized cheese rolls from Bathilde's kitchen. His eyes studied her own, searching for pain or trouble.

Tianna spoke softly. "She just woke Commander. Best she be shielded from the wind."

He nodded and bowed at the neck to Bella, then shut the slat.

Tianna smirked. "That man..." They both chuckled again.

She contemplated just what kind of tales she wanted to hear about the Mighty Morgan when he made his presence know with a knock on the slats. Mother nature was insistent on not giving them a rest and curious eyes looked at the packet placed in her hands. As Morgan studied her, she smiled at what was handed to her. They were quite delicious and the Lady was more than happy to share. At his urge to drink plenty of fluids a cute smirk made its home upon her pretty pink lips. "Yes, Commander," she replied.

A hue of red blossomed on her cheeks and the feeling caused the Lady to look away from her company. "He is certainly a duty-bound man. No doubt about that."The cheese pockets were placed upon the stove as he had suggested. She was well aware of their gooey deliciousness. "Tell me about that." She voiced as her eyes watched the yummy pockets warming up.

"What was so funny at that moment. Fill me in. Pleeeease," this was certainly something you did not see every day. A noble pleading with her help for something she, by right, could simply demand.

Both women chuckled. "We are not usually sought out for our tales and stories Milady. but we do have several. Including about the Commander."

Before she could see or even guess at their thoughts on that particular matter, Tianna spoke. "My personal favorite is the Tower of Morning Hill. Tiny little town. The commander was riding through with a small force of Lord Bartok's men. He was not even an officer yet at the time. Anyway as they rode through passing on the Lord's messages, and delivering the town's supplies from Lord Bartok. Special food supplies, their proceeds from the market, and so on. Well as they were doing so, a young vagrant stole the patrol leader's coin purse. The patrol leader was a young man. But ambitious. and eager to prove himself. So he shot the vagrant with his crossbow. By all accounts a fine shot. But the bolt killed not only the vagrant but passed through and struck the village elder's horse."

She sipped her water. "The horse bolted, and rushed the patrol leader. This was no warhorse, but one of two large work horses, and the only two in the village. At the time the village did not have oxen due to the then nationwide shortage. The patrol leader panicked, and aimed his crossbow at the horse. The Commander swatted it away and the bolt flew harmlessly into a wall. Then Morgan rode after the fleeing horse and soothed him, and treated the wound. He lead the horse back and put it into the barn with it's fellow and mate, then went to rejoin the patrol."

Jenna giggled. "Best part."

"Hush you. The patrol leader is trying to hang the village leader, the village elder, and their wives, for assaulting him. The majority of the patrol is refusing to allow this, calling him a fool and a coward. Not exactly calming things down. Morgan, ever the direct one, cuts the ropes of the 'prisoners' and sends them home, ignoring the screams of the offended patrol leader. Who draws his sword and swings it at Morgan. Morgan dodges it and the fool falls out of his saddle and onto his own sword, killing himself. And everyone, save Morgan, begins to scream that they should be in charge now."

Jenna giggled again.

Tianna smirked. "Well My Lady, in addition to delivering and accepting items for Lord Bartok, the patrol was looking for signs of Ser Hollow Brent."

Jenna nodded as Bella recognized the name. An infamous highwayman and bandit, who had supposedly once been minor lord in the Imperial Court but had been caught attempting unfriendly relations with several persons. And according to rumors several animals.

"Now Ser Hollow may or may not have done all those things he was said to have done. I have no idea. But he did have a number of illnesses that present themselves openly. Including the one that rots the tender parts of the body. the natural areas yes, but also the ears and nose."

Bella had seen the afflicted. They were miserable creatures, driven mad by the slow rot of their bodies and eventually their minds.

"Well by this point Ser Hollow was deeply in the final stages. He had already burned Fair Grove for giving him what he asked for. And the ambush at Nottlesworth was only weeks away. But he happened to be in the area with his little band of cutthroats. And he overheard the clamor. Lord Bartok being who and what he was, he had one of the highest prices out for Ser Hollow. And had publicly sworn to punish Ser Hollow to the fully extent of the law. Meaning execution by severe means. and for his men. So Ser Hollow remembered three things. His greed. His lust. and his hatred for Lord Bartok. So he and his band ride along into town. My Lady will no doubt know that Ser Hollow died in winter at Nottlesworth. So there was of course a heavy layer of snow on the ground. And fortunately no mud. There had been but it had frozen. And now it cracked."

Jenna sighed. "My Lady have you ever heard Morgan truly bellow? He can shout down a storm when he must."

Tianna nudged her. "Indeed. and this day he heard the crack of breaking ice and frozen mud and roared for them all to be quiet. And just in time. The patrol was 17 by then. Ser Hollow still commanded 150 men then. And for all their roughness, they were fierce and nasty fighters. He saw them. and their sigils for Clan Bartok. And without a word he drew his weapons. Morgan surprised everyone. 'Retreat!'" And snatched up the fallen crossbow, loaded and drew it back with one hand, then fired, killing Hollow's horse. Surprised Hollow fell under his horse and was too busy cursing to react yet. The patrol meanwhile shot down the main street of the town, toward the tower, beating their shields and calling out the warning. The villages were well used to such cries and fled to the tower as well, bundling their stock and children in in minutes, the patrol remembering themselves and helping. The last in was the village leader, his father the elder, their wives and other children, and the majority of the town's supplies in the wagon pulled by the two horses. The leader would later affirm that he had been intent on lodging a complaint with Lord Bartok."

Jenna grunted. "Mighty pissed he was. Sorry My Lady."

Tianna spoke on. "So while this is going on, Morgan has drawn his swords and is standing in the middle of the road over the corpse of the patrol leader, their warhorses blocking the rest of the path, and the heavy snow on either bank making crawling out nearly impossible. and of course for all their ferocity, these lads couldn't tie their shoes without guidance from Hollow. He was their idol and leader all at once. So when he fell they stood by and watched. He hated to be helped. He couldn't stand to be touched. Many say it was his ego. i think it just hurt him. Which is likely why he was sooo angry at Morgan. Being under a horse is never fun. being under one when it's especially painful to you? certain to be infuriating. So finally he orders three of his boys to ride Morgan down. Well you've seen Morgan work. Now three bandits ever born could have presented him trouble even if they were on warhorses and wearing full mail. As they were in furs and rags they went down quick as a blink. Ser Hollow repeated this little drama two more times. And only gave Morgan six more kills. Now utterly mad with rage he demands they drag his horse off him."

Jenna sniffed the cheese rolls. "I think they are ready My lady." And offered the first to bella, and split one with Tianna. As ever Bathilde's cooking was perfection. Both women moaned in delight as they ate. Then Tianna took a long sip, sat back, belched, excused herself, and resumed the story.

"Ser Hollow shambled up to Morgan and challenges him to a fight. Morgan agrees. Then Hollow names the terms. Him and 15 against Morgan. Morgan sighs and agrees. Then kicks Hollow in the nethers. Hollow's screams could be heard for miles. The people in the tower still swear they heard his balls break. Morgan hurled Hollow at his boys, mounted his horse, and grabbed the leader's horse's reins, and galloped for the tower. And begins yelling. "Open up! Open up!"

Jenna was nibbling the remains of her roll, watching the inside of her eyelids.

"The villagers of course are scared, but one of the patrol knows Morgan, so does so. Only for the horses to enter alone. The door is yanked shut and he roared. "Bar it!' and the others of the patrol used the arrow slits and murderholes to peek out. Morgan stood before that door alone as a few dozen crazed bandits rode down on him. Seeing what he intends they wait until he roars for them to fire and they unleash a volley into the charging force, making them twitch and focus elsewhere, and Morgan dives in. He killed 11 of them before they realized what he was doing, and another 5 before they could get away, while the archers killed 14 altogether. If you are counting My Lady you know that leaves Hollow with 111 including himself. With his entire attack on morgan killed, Hollow at first unaware, he just waits for them to return so he can kill Morgan personally. But they don't come. Still he waits. he waits for an entire hour. During which time Morgan searches the entire village and secures all the remaining food and supplies those inside needs, and now does join those inside the tower, but only for a moment."

Jenna giggled. "Sneaky time."

Tianna nodded. "He gathers the most stealthy of the patrol, and puts the men of the village to work first barricading the door, then while the stealthy make preparations he shares out the bows and arrows, and crossbows and bolts and puts them in the higher floors and top of the tower, while the spearmen are in the bottom floor, the children elderly secured in the underchambers. the village leader is of course worried about Hollow firing the town. Especially their silos. He and Morgan brought what they could, but it is a little farming town. they survive on their stores of corn and wheat more than anything, though with the dead horses outside and the meat he and Morgan brought everyone should be alright, if this doesn't turn into a seige. Morgan assures him it will not, and asks if there is a secret passage or underground tunnel. There is, though it's only to the tower's well. This is fine. Morgan has them move the animals here, under watch. So all the noncombatants are out of harm's way now. So now Morgan rejoins the stealthy."

She took another sip of water.

"They have secured the leanto atop the tower, and have secured the drop ropes. Night has begun to fall quickly, and Hollow is still waiting, something Morgan will still tell you was far more than luck. it was a gift. Now we, yes I was among the stealthy, secured ropes at the top, and climbed down the tower, the ropes were drawn back up, and we all slid into the village proper, and made our way slowly towards Hollow and his 111. That is important My lady. There were 7 of us, including Morgan. Hollow was pacing and blathering about his nonsense plans, and ignoring his men. We slid along the road, watching them, leaving one of our best shooters to watch Hollow. They had no guards. No pickets. So we managed to sneak along to their back end. And once there we set to work. kill those who isolated themselves first. Then those who were being quiet and still. We killed 41 of them before we met anything like trouble. The men at this point were cold. So they were grumbling about building a fire, and asking those nearest Hollow to let them. We managed 5 more. 76 with Hollow now. Morgan meanwhile had been making another plan. And when he ordered us back we were stunned. Until he started the stampede. The 46 horses of those we had killed, and many of these others all suddenly ran forward, through their fellows, and over the people."

Tianna shook head head. "My lady may have heard that a horse will not step on a human. That is both true and false. Of course a Warhorse will. But unless trained a horse hates to step on anything but solid ground. including a human being. But if the horse must step on a human, they will. And in the midst of a stampede they have little choice. 20 men were crushed, trampled, or otherwise killed in that stampede. in the space of a few hours Hollow had lost nearly a full two thirds of his force. And the stampede took all but 30 of their horses off into the night, where Morgan, who had been riding in the center of the stampede, spent the rest of the night corraling every horse he could. He only lost three. Anyway, by now Hollow is out of his mind with rage. So he charges into town. No one is there of course. But the tower is shining in the night, and he can hear the children singing. he charges the tower. it was a slaughter. We stealthy picked off a few here and there, and the archers and spearmen, even in the night, lay waste to his numbers. In the end he rode away with the infamous 13 Hollowmen. The last of his real fighters before he went on that made recruiting/slave run that ended in Nottlesworth under Commander Raiden's sword. Morgan claimed all 13 Hollowmen himself in that battle."

Jenna nodded. "That was my first one. Commander Raiden put me in charge of Hollow's harem of girls. They were all so scared they would start rotting. Fortunately he was too fargone to ever partake of them by then. Got them all home. That village recieved double potions for the rest of lord Bartok's life. and that's been renewed under Lord Hurt. They also are working on becoming one of the major horse breeders in the region, due to the massive influx of horses they got that night. Quite a few fine stallions, and many suitable broodmares, all stolen in Hollow's madness. Your Ladyship might be advised to visit and seek a business arrangement. They would certainly love extra chances to sell."

Tianna nodded. "Perhaps we could even build a racetrack. With the popularity of horse racing lately it could be a most profitable venture, and partnership if we were to host their stock."

They fell silent, letting Bella ruminate both on the story and the possibilities of profit for herself and her people.
