First Day by Laura Shigihara
(Pop Music beat)
It is the first day
Don't know where I stand anymore
I've got my hands in my pockets
I'm staring down at the floor
When I walk through the halls
Will I fall flat on my face?
Am I in over my head?
Are people even gonna know my name?

Give it time, it's okay if I
Don't figure everything out overnight
It's too late now, gotta fight!
A-one two three!
Gotta be
Everything I can, I might
Fail, if that's the way it's gotta be, I'll prove
There's more to me than what you see
I'll live my life
All on the first day.

(Musical interlude)

It is the first day
And I'm sitting all by myself
All the
Weird things about me
Maybe I should leave them somewhere else-Whoa
When I wanna speak up
My voice decides it's gonna get really small-whoa oh
Cause there's that
Part of me
That wants to run and not be seen at all (repeat second section above)

(Theme fades out)

The PA system crackled to life as the Principal came on over the speakers throughout Oliver M Berry High School, located somewhere in a major metropolitan area in the United States.

"Good morning students and welcome to the first day of a new school year. There's plenty of activities to be had here, and we are always looking for volunteers to help greet all new students that come through these doors. Please be aware however of the following rules.

1. Respect the rules of the site. We adhere to guidelines brought down on us by the superintendent of the district (administrators), and if we don't abide by them, we'll be shut down. The big one is no student under 15. This is HIGH SCHOOL.

2. Drama is expected in the role play. It's what drives the story. But leave drama that is going on outside our doors (RL), it doesn't need to be dragged in here (IC)

3. Be considerate of others who join in later, allowing them to merge into the school populace.

4. Do not move a character that is not yours without permission. This could be construed as bullying (it is godmoding), and will not be tolerated. It is the discretion of either myself or the vice principal (which I would like a site staff member to be) on whether you are even warned (All your characters could easily get expelled and/or fired).

5. We believe in exploring your sexuality, but prefer you do it as little as possible. This is High School STORY, not High School Porn

6. Be respectful of each players' nos on their f-list. They have them for a reason. If you are caught pushing it sexually, it's automatic expulsions of all your characters.

7. Once there is a certain number of players, it's requested (for now) that you allow everyone a turn before you reply to those referencing your characters. It's courtesy as well as common sense.

8. Set time to reply. For the sake of the players, again common courtesy, please take no longer than seven days to reply. If you take longer, then you will just have to reply when you can, and that will be your new position in the rounds to follow.

9. Once there are multiple players, please alert the next player it is their turn. Again it's common courtesy.

And finally, number 10. If it is indeed your first day... Please introduce yourself as follows, and remember... have fun and... Go Tigers!:

Name: Maria Flores
Age: 17
Grade: 11th
Are you a student leader? Yes If so, what is your role? Junior Class President, Social Events Committee Vice President
Appearance Screenshot_20191028-022630.png
Personality/Traits: Hard working, harried because it seems it's all on her shoulders to get done, structured, organized and at times tenacious. Friendly when there's time, doesn't mean to seem off-putting. Has lots of baggage, needs help carrying it all. Full of pep and school spirit, though doesn't always show it, steps in for coach of squad as needed. Very focused, because she needs to be.
Sexuality: "Who has time for that? Much too busy. Have to be a good example to rest of not just Juniors, but our underclassmen. Besides... You really think those posters are going to put themselves up?"
Caste: School government, Social Events.

Maria stood at the door of the school and sighed. She tapped her foot, looking at her watch. "Students will be coming in aannnyy minute now." Her face was drawn into something between a regular look and a half scowl. She had other things to attend to, this morning.

Name: Kara Zor-El "Really. That's my last name!"
Age:16
Grade: 10th
Are you a student leader? "Sorta?" If so, what is your role? "Um does (counts on fingers) pep squad, tutoring and hall monitor count?"
Appearance (all of them) nerd Screenshot_20191028-023624.png Screenshot_20191028-022104.png hall monitor Screenshot_20191028-033841.png cheer

Personality/Traits: fun loving, peppy, nerdy, legalistic, and a little dense at times. Example: At last school, when told to throw the book at a law breaker... She literally threw a copy of the penal code at him. She likes the occasional party, but doesn't overindulge, wanting good grades. Loves being in school law enforcement... But hates the badge. She can be funny.... Not a good idea for team leader, but is fine with one on one tutoring. Kara is a very complicated girl.... (As in reality is Supergirl, but makes it like it's part of her nerdy fangirl persona) Then there's her idea of a hall monitor uniform separate of her 'civvies'.
Sexuality: "Girls."
Caste: "huh? I'm not wearing a cast." (Filled in by Principal) Nerd, Cheer, Student government due to law enforcement position

Kara grinned as she bounced in the door and took her arms akimbo stance. Maria rolled her eyes. "You nerfherder." She sighed, taking one look at the Supergirl outfit, and shaking her head as she started to walk off.

"That's Star Wars. Do I look like I belong in Star Wars?" Kara frowned, pointing to the S on her chest.

"Either that or a cartoon. You got it from here, hall monitor?" Maria asked.

Kara huffed at Maria, with her own frown. "I bet Principal Hughs doesn't want you to leave. You might wanna stick around Miss Junior Class President."

Maria folded her arms as Kara stood where she had a moment earlier. "Fine, 'Supergirl', I'll team up for a while. Not long. I got things to do." She again checked her watch.

Miss Hughs came by, "You two get to class. Any stragglers will just have to wait until between bells for help with finding classes."

Kara sighed and went to the girls' restroom to change into her "nerd" look, while Maria headed to her first class muttering about not getting her other work done.

Name: Mrs Amy Peterson
Age: 24
History Teacher

Shizuka.jpg

Personality: Amy is a loving caring woman who only wants to help her students to learn and get better. She isn't afraid to express joy when someone does well and if she does get angry.....uhhh run! She prefers to spend her time talking about the history of her home country, Amy is a Scottish Woman and very proud of it. She also doesn't like when people put themselves down. Her husband is a soldier for the US army so he's away a lot so she is lonely sometimes but being a teacher helps her cope as she throws herself in body mind and soul!
Sexuality: Uhhh are you Human...I'm no slut but everyone needs a little love now and then.

"Dearest Amy,
I hope this letter finds you well, I can't tell you how much I miss you...in more ways than one. My heart aches to beat with yours and I know what I said about next month in my last letter....but it's not happening I'm afraid...you know how it is. Duty comes first and all that shit but it does. I can't tell you how much I miss you...every inch. If I was there, now....you wouldn't walk for a week....sorry I want to make you blush. Now I know you're birthday is next month and so is our anniversary but don't worry Ted promised he'd do me a favour when he got back...and you'll love it!

All my dearest love for my special Scottish Thistle....William Peterson"

Amy read the letter several times, it had been two months since William had left and whilst she was a kind caring woman she couldn't hide her feelings of hurt as she let a few tears run down her face "William....Come home soon" she said as the first few students began to trickle in "UH right...Good morning" she put the letter in her handbag and stood up.

The bell hadn't rung yet, and here came Kara, arms full of books, and head poking around the side as she walked in and started for the front. Unfortunately one of the boys tripped her, causing her to stagger forward, "Oop, oop oop... My history book!" She gasped as it fell towards the floor. Kara about fell into her seat, adjusted her glasses, gave the tripper a frown and was about to reach for her book when RRIINNNGG! Thunk. Head to desk, she looked at the teacher then her book, back to the teacher, "Ma'am? Can I get my book? Mr. Owen would mark one tardy if they moved from their seat after the bell." Her book was out of reach in the walkway in front of the front row of seats.

"I'm telling Mia." A girl shot, "You know how the cheer captain feels about anyone picking on her girls... Even if that nerd does deserve being embarrassed, pretending she's Supergirl. Her hall monitor outfit is stoo-PID!" More deriding laughter, though Kara just shrugged it off. "Even if it is allowed because it meets dress code."

"Ha! She should wear it all the time, instead of those plain tops and jeans she usually does! At least it's colorful!" Another girl snickered. THAT did hurt Kara's feelings, and it showed, as she cast eyes sadly to the floor. Her regular clothes was how she blended in.

"Detention" Amy said as she stood up and fetched the book "For both of ya girls and for ya Mr Trips a lot....it's a week's worth" she picked up the book and smiled warmly at Kara as she approached "Here ya go! Right! I maybe a kind forgiving woman but no bully in my classroom will be babied!" the look she gave the three was a very clear warning "Now onto Today's lesson..." she began her lesson and soon the class was busy debating the subject of WW2 covering the Invasion of Norway but more about it's impact on history "Okay now I....." the bell rang and Amy sighed "Well next time....I hope we can have a more energised discussion"

She walked up to Kara "Kara I'd like to have a wee word with ya so could ya stay for a bit? I'll give ya a note for your next class to excuse ya" once all the other students had cleared out "Kara....this isn't easy for me to say but is wearing an avengers costume for Hall Monitoring very wise? I do get what it's like to have a passion like this since ma husband is my Han Solo but this really is just asking for trouble" she paused "What if I came in dressed like a Jedi? Do ya honestly think I wouldn't be the butt of jokes?" she was trying to be kind but this was silly "Please...just think about it? Because I don't want ta be the bad teacher again"

Kara made a face. "Problem is, ma'am... With my last name, they'd be riding my case if I don't dress as Supergirl. She's not an Avenger, though, she's DC."

She held up her notebook where her last name was spelled out in cursive. "See? Zorel. Zör-ell. If I don't do Supergirl, they'll expect Zorro, probably. My last name has been the butt of every school yard joke since kindergarten. I'm used to most of it... Until they start making fun of my regular clothes. Comparing them to my colorful costume." She got up. "That hurts. It's almost like they expect me to REALLY be her... But I can't, can I? She's a fictional character in a comic book universe." She smiled as she gathered her books. "Watch out for Maria. You tell her your husband is your Han Solo.... You might be called a nerfherder. Though with you being the teacher... You might get away with it. I'll keep it under advisement, though, ma'am. Hall Monitor outfit, I mean." She hurried off to English... Almost losing her top book again, which this time was her English textbook.

"Oh lord that girl must have the world's cruellest parents" Amy said to herself as she went to mark some homework and waited till the next class.

(Sorry there wasn't a lot else I could put)

(Understood. Zorel, spelled that way is a real name. Variant or original spelling of Sorrell. Somewhere in Eastern Europe, I think. The cruelty was naming her Kara)

Mia came in first, and the blonde was shaking her head. "I didn't say that, Maria, I just said Kara should tweak it. That S insignia t-shirt, those shoes, the skirt... Even her mismatched wristbands... It makes her 'Supergirl' supercute. Definitely a flair without being over the top, it's just her godawful cape. Why does she wear it? To finish the effect? A teacher should tell her... 'Yo Supes, lose the cape. Everything else is kosher!', y'know?"

The dark brunette haired Junior Class President followed. "Geez, Mia... I'm beginning to think you're a bigger nerfherder than Kara." She groaned with a headshake.

Mia laughed, "Glad you don't think I'm a scruffy looking one!"

Maria shook her head, trying not to chuckle. "And you're neither stuck up nor half witted, either."

Mia sighed, "Unlike some people?"

Kara isn't either, she's more.... Slow witted at times. Sadly." Maria sighed.

"I hear ya. But we need someone she'll heed to explain she just needs to lose that cape." Mia took her seat and Maria sat across from her, one row behind the front. "Got a handy baseball bat for our lovable nerd muffin?"

"You sure we don't need a lightsaber?" Maria smirked.

Mia nodded. "Point. She might get it then."
