Silent Footsteps... [SeythexKatie]

"If you wanted to kill me, you would have done it a while ago." Raising a brow as he stood over her, she once again patted the bed. "I won't bite you." She said with a smirk. Leaning back against her pillows, she looked over his face, memorizing every curve, every twist that she could see. Still, Helena smiled when Lantis restated his name. "Well, Lantis. If you are not human, what are you?"

She wasn't quite convinced he wasn't human, just a man who thought he had 'super powers'. But she wasn't going to verbally argue with him. After all, she knew he was stronger than she. "And why do you have such a fascination with me? I was never very kind to you."

"What am I?" He frowned, turning about and seating himself to the bed. "I represent the shadows, and all the shadows represent as well." His expression turned to one of dissapointment at showing who he truly was, "I made a contract a long while ago with the Gods. I've been on this earth a while... There are others like me."

He turned to face her with his legs over the side of the bed. An arm came softly to the girl's head, examining her with his eyes. They were still red, though not as deeper of a hue. "The shadows choose to stalk and form fascinations for things. As long as they do not come to light. I chose you because you stood out, and so I will stay with you a while."

Helena raised her eyebrows as he said he represented the shadows. Behind her blank expression, she was sure this man was legally insane. But who was she to call him on that? No, it was best not to anger those who had a mental medical condition. "And what is it you do... I mean, the shadows.... Is it like, your element?" Ancient pictures of mythology burst into her head, even though she barely understood them. Hell, she'd be lucky if she ever pronounced his name right.

The brunette closed her eyes when his arm touched her head. She was not frightened. No... That touch. It was strange, how it made her feel. "So... Are you a person? Or merely a bunch of shadows that looks like a person?" She didn't want to admit she had slight feelings for something that was abiotic. Sighing, she opened her eyes a bit to look at him. "You don't frighten me much anymore. Its actually kinda nice having someone around."

"I am a person. I can bleed." He assured her, looking into her eyes. "I represent the manifestation of human and shadows interacting, the unknown, obsessions..." His hand came down to the side of her head. A devious smile suddenly came across his lips, red eyes blew a bit hotter. He crawled across the bed to her, his face came to hers, but he didn't kiss her. Instead he hovered just above her laying form, looking her in the eyes. "You know too much now, you know."

Dark shadowy sparks produced out of thin air and began falling upon the bed. Lantis' emotions sparking again.

Perhaps Helena was too caught up in the moment. She was completely hypnotized by this man. Every movement he made, she feel deeper against the bed. Every word, and her ears became more keen. Why was she so suddenly accepting the man she had pushed away hours ago? It couldn't just be because he saved her.... Could it?

"Thats fine with me." She mumbled quietly as he drew over her face. She pushed her head against the pillows, sinking into the soft material. Still, she looked up at him, and didn't try to make him get farther away from her. "So what do you plan to make of all this? You can't stalk me forever." Her bright blue eyes searched his own for a minute, as if trying to find all the answers to her questions. What was so fascinating about this man?

"I can't?" He laughed softly in her face, tilting his head. "You see... The tides have changed now..." He was referring to her getting comfortable with him, she was so lonely... What would she do when he was gone? He came in closer now, another kiss imminent. "I will watch over you, so you will see..." He came in close... His lips coming into contact with hers...

And then he meshed again, into the shadows of her bedroom. The shadows spilled over her curves and covers and off the sides of the bed... Lantis would come back outside of her door. He stood still for a moment, then looked up to the light of the hallway and smiled to himself. He walked down the hall to the elevator... Back to watching her squirm.

Helena's eyes got slightly bigger when he reminded her that he would be watching. She gulped a bit, and then found his lips pressed against her own. For a moment, she almost kissed back, almost. But then, he was gone. A cool sensation washed over her, and then nothing was left in the room but her own body and possessions. The brunette let out a sigh. Maybe she wanted him to stay longer. Talk to her more, let her know she wasn't completely alone in this world. It was so easy to get caught up in your own life in this city. It was hard to keep relationships with anybody.

With a heavy sigh, she rolled onto her side, facing her window. Maybe he would come back later. Maybe visit her again in the night. Rolling her eyes playfully, she felt her kittens come back onto her bed, curling around her. The soft scent of the man was left in the room. An air of spices, musk, amber... Closing her eyes she took it all in, the kiss, the touch, and closed her eyes with a smile. "Lantis..." She whispered softly.

[[Hmm... In case you haven't figured it out yet. I'm kind of playing this out on a whim, haha. Didn't have an explanation for his powers until now, hope it makes sense. This plotline's a bit linear... Trying to think of some things we could do to spice it up some. A detective on Lantis' tail after the murder, or perhaps another being like him of another element. Any input?]]

[[Ha ha. xD Whims are good though. Uhm... Spicing up would be good. Maybe someone investigating the murders of the people upstairs, the man in the alley, ect. is after him?]]

[[But that's where he lives! Haha. Hm, have to think this over. Multitasking finals too. This is my only source of entertainment for the moment.]]

[[Ha ha. Okay. Well, maybe the blonde girl he tried to get before reported him. Idk. But yeah. This is entertaining. :3]]

Jake watched the girl bawl her eyes out as he took a puff of his cigarette, nodding and nodding as the story came between wet salty tears. "H-He tried to rape me! But there was this girl! She came and saved me!" She sniffled, blowing into the tissue the detective had provided for her. Cute blondie, but about as dumb as a rock. As good as they came in this city... He took notes on his notepad as she spoke of her clean escape and her worries for her savior.
"Right, okay. But you said he tricked you into thinking he was the man he wasn't?" He took the cigarette from his lips, furrowing a brow, "What, like magic? Or maybe just a really good impersonator?"
"No, it was definetely something out of this world! You've got to believe me!" She cried, blowing into the tissue once more. "L-like he was ready to kill at a moment's notice. He was really fast!" She sobbed in horror at recounting it, but glad she had gotten the near experience off her chest. "You'll do something won't you?" She pleaded as Jake stood up.
The detective lead her to the door, "Of course... We'll do everything in our power ma'am. Now try and get some sleep." He opened and closed the door behind her. Turning about he got back to his cigarette, taking a breath of ash and walking to the window. The evening rain had come again... A violent murder in the alley way, near rape... Accounts of a dark man getting whatever he wanted...

Lightning struck, booming thunder following soon after.

The twenty-five year old detective worked a number of hours before he got the name of a female, psychology student... The blond's savior? He wondered how she fared against the mysterious man. Holstering his pistol he left the department, taking his brown coat and hat from the hanger...

Lantis watched back at his apartment as Helena rested and thought of her visitor. He had made the mistake of getting too close. That was not according to plan despite what she may've thought... How he loved to watch his pet... He fancied the idea of visiting her in the night, but thought better of it. Best to make her want his company...

Despite Helena's pleasant thoughts, she was unable to sleep. Her hand gently stroked the top of Oliver's head, and she let her mind comb through her thoughts. "Do you really think its safe that I spend some time with this man?" She asked, as if the kitten could verbally speak to her. The cat did not respond, of course, and merely continued to purr under her touch. Helena sighed, and rubbed her forehead with her other hand.

"Oh pauvre moi. Pourqoui à vie est tres difficile?" She groaned out her french, which she was supposed to keep up in using. Ugh. Studies. This was the first moment she had actually thought about them the past few days. Her psychology and foreign languages classes were all she was taking right now, and it was still overwhelming. "Lantis est beau, mais bien trop dangereux." She whispered to herself. Oh, she wanted company.

Jake adjusted his coat as the elevator dinged at the fifth floor. Looking at himself in the reflective metal of the double doors just before they parted. His beach blonde hair fell just before the top of his neck with bangs just gracing the top part of his hazel eyes. He had a calm demeanor about him, almost disarming. He evaluated himself closely before the doors opened, allowing him to step out into the corridor of apartments. He looked both ways and went down the hall, reaching into his pocket for the slip of paper he had put the girl's information on...

"543." He recalled the location, coming to the door and standing before it. He put away the paper and pulled out his detective badge, knocking on the door and raising it up high. He knocked twice.

It was lucky this detective had come so soon, for Helena was on the verge of sleep. Still, when he knocked, she groaned a bit. Company that knocked never seemed to be good. With a sigh, she moved her kitten, and kicked off the covers. "I'm coming..." She whined, and then walked to the front door. Before opening she looked through the peep hole. Blonde? She asked herself. She didn't know who this visitor was. Shaking out her hair a bit, she then unlocked the bolt and the door, and then opened it.

"Hello?" She asked, as the door swung to show her face. There was a badge in his hand, but she couldn't directly make it out. She glanced around, quite confused. She hadn't done anything wrong!

The detective studied the potential informant easily, flipping his badge closed and pocketing it. "Relax ma'am, I'm just a detective investigating some mysterious happenings... And a murder." He told her, "I had one blond girl inform me of your trying to stop a rape attempt, a... Dark man in a dark coat? She claimed he had magical powers or something." He smiled at the rediculous idea, shaking his idea, "I have to apologize for coming at such a late hour, but a man was brutally murdered and I think I can link things together if you'd just answer some questions about the man. I take it you got away from him relatively unharmed last night?" He asked, clearing his throat, "May I come in?" He asked, looking at her.

Helena looked at the man with a bit of unsettled fear, as if she was in the wrong. As if she were hiding a body behind her back. She had done nothing! Why was she so nervous? Because she did care about this man. She couldn't tell him where Lantis was... Clearing her throat, she nodded, and let the man in. "I intervened, left, and I haven't seen him since." She snapped, though she tried to keep her tone a bit friendly. Helena pulled her hair to one shoulder and ran her fingers through it. "I'm sorry this isn't the cleanest apartment..." She picked up a jacket that was on the floor. "Been busy lately..."

Jake wove his hand dismissively in the air, "No sweat, my place is about as worse of a mess with all the work I've been doing." He read her as he spoke, "Busy." He pursed his lip some, attempting to look as comforting as possible. "He followed you, didn't he?" The detective explored, hazel eyes studying her full on as she strode about the room cleaning up.

Across the street, one floor up. Lantis clenched his fists, dark rage welling up. It was a cop... Should he kill him right now? The idea brought pulsing shadows coursing between his fingers, beckoning to him to assassinate the man on the spot, one good ranged strike, like the man in the alley... But... That would startle his beloved to too much of an extent. His game would be over. Lantis took a deep regulating breath, keeping his shadowy anger under control. He read his lips... Cold heart beating quicker. How would Helena respond?

Helena coughed into her fist when a question was asked of her. Taking as long as possible to answer, she pulled a curl behind her ear, and slowly turned to look at the detective. "He.... He didn't really follow me, not after the first two buildings we passed." Her voice was slightly believable. Lying was something she had to learn at school, and she was getting pretty good at it. But still, this was a detective - someone trained to find who was telling the truth. But aha, she was in training to be an agent! She knew every trick he did!

Making sure not to look to the right or left, she stared straight into Jake's eyes. "I think he watched me walk home as far as the view from the alley would allow him. But I took a different route home, one that almost no one could ever think of." Smiling softly, the brunette glanced over at the kitchen. "Do you want something to drink?" Without an answer, she walked back and turned the coffee pot on, adding some water and beans.

"I see." He had his notepad pulled out and took notes as she explained herself, lying through her teeth. He may've been slightly aware, but Helena was innocent enough.. And pretty. He smiled awkwardly as she got up to make him some coffee. "That sounds great, thanks." He said after stopping himself from declining. "So, there was a man that was brutally murdered at thirty-first near the subway stop. Someone claimed to see you get mugged and knocked unconscious and carried off by a..." He paused deliberately, pretending to look at his notes as he stood up to come about to the kitchen, "A tall pale man in a dark coat?" he stood at the entrance to the lit kitchen, staring with a furrowed brow.

Lightning struck, lighting the whole street outside. Lantis was illuminated briefly, flexing his right fist with shadows spilling to the floor from the other... Jake took no notice of the danger across the street.

Trying to make the best of the situation, Helena continued to smile, even after the awkward statement came to her. Being knocked out, carried off... It took her a moment to recall what he was speaking of, but then she remembered. Lantis had saved her. Awkwardly licking her lips she poured a bit of milk and sugar into one cup of coffee, and gave a black cup to Jake. "Oh yes. Well, I was in fact mugged. But I was not knocked out of it. You see, I had left my father to go home, he was on the train with me, and going towards my parents apartment. Thankfully he heard me and came to the rescue."

That was possibly the most awkward lie she had ever given, but she tried to look honest. Her father was tall, and wore trench coats - but he was certainly not pale. "You know, thats what fathers are for." She smiled at Jake, and then jumped high into the air, coffee spilling onto the floor. Lightning shook the house, and the room seemed to dim and re-illuminate, all in an instant. While the detective may not know what this meant, Helena did. He was coming.

Jake stood up abruptly as Helena spilled her own coffee, retaining his within the cup. He had been eyeing her with a sympathetic frown as she told the lie. Feigning belief... She was trying to hide something, an accomplice in murder? He took a sip of the coffee as she hunched over to clean up the spilled coffee from the floor. "Well then, that's all the questions I have to offer." He lied, kneeling over with the cup he nodded, setting it before her on the floor. "You can have mine." He said, looking into her pretty eyes significantly. There was no doubt. Jake headed for the door, guessing Helena would follow... Watch him go down the hall in fear... He opened the door, turning towards the elevator, he left the front door open. "Thanks miss, we'll be in touch." he promised, waving a hand as he walked off.

Ominously, footsteps echoed through the stairwell, Lantis scaling the few floors up... He breathed heavily, barely containing his rage as he came through the door from the stairs, it closed quietly behind him as he watched Jake's back, walking away from him. The detective had taken no notice as Lantis held his arm up high, shadows silently coalescing into a huge, deadly lance.

The detective waited for the elevator, deep in thought over the interview, he did not notice the danger at the other end of the hall.

Helena didn't dare glance up at the man after she had fallen to the floor. Nothing she had said was believable. And now, whats worse, she could be in trouble herself! Why was she trying so hard to protect this man - this thing! He hadn't done anything to really help her. He had taken her home, but only after causing the injury in the first place. Plus, this man was a murderer! And she knew it! With an exasperated sigh, the brunette stood up, and went to lock the door behind the detective. And then, out of nowhere, she banged against the exit, like a mad woman.

She didn't know quite what to do about any of this. And now, so distressed and confused, she screamed, and threw a coffee mug into the sink, shattering the colored glass. Closing her eyes, the brunette tried to calm herself down. It was then she heard, somehow, the footsteps. Scrunching up her face, she tried to focus on them, but it became more and more quiet - but her heart raced on. Spinning around, she headed for the door.

Swinging it open, Helena raced out, into the dark hallway. Shadows were whisking around the floor, up to the top of the ceiling, edging their way toward the elevator. "Lantis." She whispered. Running forward, guessing she would eventually hit him, Helena tried holding her arms out to catch onto the man. "Don't!" She said in a loud whisper.

Ding The elevator reached the fifth floor, Jake had been waiting a fair minute, unaware that Lantis was about to throw a spear of pure shadowy hate at the side of his head...

Lantis' arm reared back, shadows pulsing with uncontrolled rage. About to thrust forth and pierce the detective's head. But suddenly, he felt the weight of Helena, innocence and genuine concern splashed over his dark brooding thoughts as she made contact with him. The shadows faltered and he grunted. "No.. I must..." The black lance fluttered and sparked with the conflicting emotions. But it was too late.

Jake boarded the elevator and the double doors closed behind him... Safe for now.

Lantis' shadows crawled back from each of the edges of the dark hall, light restored itself to its original places. The dark being looked above Helena to where Jake was, scowling hard. He shoved her back, "Stupid, I was going to destroy him." He said, raising his pale hand and examining it as the shadows recombined with his body.

Helena let out a sigh of relief as Jake escaped, unaware of what was going on behind him. And then a wind of fear hit her. She was in front of Lantis, and she had just told him no. Looking down at the ground, she stumbled back at the push, but she didn't project against him. Instead, she looked very frightened as she concentrated on a patch of carpet. "I'm sorry." She mumbled. "But I couldn't let you do that. He didn't hurt anybody!" Protesting, she looked up at him, and took his hand.

"Why don't you come back to the room with me?" She tried to drag him back towards her apartment door. She couldn't deny the fact that she was indeed very fascinated by this new 'man', this dark creature. And even though she knew she should be careful, she found herself begging for his attention.
