How often do you edit your RT?

Here's something that came up while talking with a friend and I wanted to hear other people's opinions on.

When browsing the RT sections I often come across threads that have recently been bumped, but which was last edited months if not years ago; on the other hand, I've noticed that some people like to overhaul their requests on an almost weekly basis. How often do you update your thread(s)? Do you just set and forget until someone reaches out, or do you keep adding and tweaking with every bump?

Personally, I have a habit of jotting my entire request down in a single night and keep the main text more or less the same throughout its lifespan, but I do frequently adjust things like the title and formatting in hopes I reach a broader audience with essentially the same message. I've only ever properly overhauled a thread if it's for a craving I haven't touched for a while and have renewed interest in, like adding new fandoms to my FxF canon thread that hadn't been bumped for nearly a year.

Conversely, when I click on a thread on the front page but see Last edited: June 6, 2019 at the bottom, I tend to assume that the OP is no longer interested in the ideas they listed, and click away before actually going through that list. Does anyone feel the same way, and if so, how long is long enough for the RT to be "out of date"?

I usually do a huge overhaul once or twice a year, depending when I want to change the aesthetic or do some bigger changes. My next goal is to make my RT look good in both dark/light themes of the site, since I think that I have managed to get responsivity nailed, but will wait till I have few other big changes lined-up before I overhaul the whole thing... Or when I get bored of my current aesthetic or come up a better one.

I also wait a handful of smaller additions, fixes, removals etc. to gather on my plate, since working with bbcode can be a chore at times, and I don't want to start an hour long troubleshooting-session in case bbcode decides to screw itself over after I added one fandom or plot-seed. Not worth the hassle so I just do multiple changes at a time.

As for when I consider the thread being "out of date" it really depends. I generally assume that if the thread is bumped and not edited the person is still interested in the ideas presented in them abd would just go with the vibe I get from the RT and the potential partner... With the exception if it has stuff like "WIP" or "More info will be added soon" and mostly consists of plain text and images, since something about extremely simple RT that has been work in progress for half a decade rubs me the wrong way. I tend to give people the benefit of the doubt in other cases, since for example I have cravings that I have searched for many many years, and the person might still be looking that one person to fulfill that said craving.

I tend to run through my story ideas every time I bump it to make sure they all still interest me. If they don't, I remove or replace that story with something that's more exciting to me in that moment. As for full-scale aesthetics, whenever something tickles me and inspires me to create around it.

My RT's never stay posted for very long before I end up deleting them. I'll save the codes and plots used in a word doc, if not in a journal thread here, but less than a month and they're most times gone, as I am in a continuous cycle of recreating the things that appear. Sure, some plots may remain the same, but the aesthetics surrounding them and the thread will always change.

RT editing wise... it depends a LOT how busy I am. I an go months without adding anything to my RT. Other times I'm on a writing spree and I can edit my RT multiple times in the same week, sometimes even the same day. MY RT itself isn't really made to be super specific though with a lot of wiggle room, so it's somewhat rare I get too many pitches for an RP that come out working exactly the same way each time. Mostly just my much more simplistic RPs ever do that.

i tend to edit my threads whenever i plan to bump them, because my interests are finicky and i can never stay on them for that long. for example, the last time i bumped my thread was because the craving to write a reverse harem hit me, and so i minorly tweaked my thread to fit that craving, but after getting some interest on it and closing it, i haven't felt like bothering to edit it.

basically, i will edit my thread whenever a craving strong enough for me to start looking again hits me, which isn't that often nowadays.

that said, one of the first things i look at when reading a request thread is the last time someone edited it. in my opinion, it kind of shows how proactive someone is in general. if you can't be bothered to at least edit your thread a little bit to reflect your current interests, how proactive can you really be in discussing a roleplay? that's just my perspective though.

edit: also, unrelated, but threads with dozens of pages that are just 'bump' are kind of a turn-off. you know you can erase your post and then make a new one to bump, right? if you're going to keep the posts up, at least make sure they have something on them beyond just 'bump'.

I might've brought this up in another thread but I feel the exact same way. It doesn't inconvenience me whatsoever, nor does it say anything about the content of the thread itself, but it still makes me hesitant to reach out to the OP.

*Cowers in her corner of shame* I.. I mean I dooooo tend to make resposnes that are mostly more then just 'bump' but they are effectively bumps. Partially for me it's just somewhat interesting to see how much I have bumped it up I suppose. Does make me think I should just do that from now on, granted thats a LOT of replies in my main RT... at least my other two are far less bumped I mean the one I can hide away the shame more if I did that I bumped that.

I tend to update my thread every second or third bump I do, which can be months apart. Usually it's very minor and only a matter of adding new plots or removing the ones that don't interest me anymore. I very rarely have made any major change to the thread page as a whole once I got it set up how I liked it. I have made separate threads if I have a specific idea I want to do, but I always keep my main thread on hand to go back to.
