Booo I won't get to play during part of the fourth phase if it launches on the 9th of August. I will be away all that weekend.

Just FYI, the two 'unofficial' RP servers (There is apparently no official RP servers) are Gilgamesh and Balmung (Legacy).

I think I'd roll a character on each, just for the sake of feeling out the RP communities. I think a Legacy server may actually be better to start with since it carries over players from 1.0.

I've never RP'd in game before its always felt too awkward to me. Is that all Legacy means that characters from the original are carried over?

Characters, levels, crafting skills, inventory and currency. Or some combination thereof.

Hmm interesting, I never played the original so I don't really need to worry about that.

Neither have I, but I'll probably go Legacy for the established community right off the bat.

For once I am not worried about community going in to this MMO its the first one that a large percentage of my friends all want to play. There are for sure six of us that are going to get it. I am beyond excited about that actually, I've always felt excluded from MMO communities because Im not "hardcore" so to speak.

Brief summary of the test broadcast. (Pulled from Reddit)

They introduced the Japanese players guide that will be on sale. Soken tried to get the other guy to show the contents of the book but he whispered something to Soken and couldn't show it.

They opened and showed the contents of the soundtrack that will be on sale on the 14th. Then played a 104 second medley of all 104 songs. Showing old screenshots.

Made an announcement of the launch event. There will be a test area, chance to shake hands with yoshi p and something else, I forgot. 140 people will get invites.

Yoshi P came in and said 140 is not enough. How many people can the place fit, 180? Lets invite 200. Most people want to play the game right away on launch day, not come visit us, so we have to appreciate our dedicated fans. Application for the invites will start after the test broadcast.

Yoshi P said to the guy in the yellow shirt, what are you supposed to be a scholar? is that your book? theres nothing in it its all blank pages, exposing the reason why he didn't show the insides earlier. Yoshi P said a few things pretty quickly, they are working on a "Bahamut Check" and the two guys streaming were too loud. He also spoke about the "14th" saying they wanted to try to get a lot of their special days and release to have the number 14 in it. No hint really about Beta though, they were talking about other things regarding this number and date. *soundtrack is released on the 14th

At the end Yoshi P wanted to say beta date but they wouldn't let him. He then asked if he can say it tomorrow. They said yea. He then said something along the lines of, if you didn't let me say it tomorrow, i wouldn't come. (writing this from memory)

I am really not happy about the dates for the phase 4 beta and early access....Why even bother with open beta if it's only for three days....

Weekend betas are pretty standard. Especially for stress testing. If the beta was longer people might take their time getting in, so they condense it to get as many people in as possible to put the servers through their paces.

I understand about stress testing the servers, but the open beta I played for XI on the xbox went on for a week, maybe two.
In my opinion open beta should have been a week long, giving everyone a chance to play and testing the servers at the same time, and the tiny amount of time we get with the early access is awful....In my opinion that should be a week also.

This is the fourth beta, though. Plus they want to give people more incentive for the early access, and this all carries over into the live game. If they're not going to reset the servers there has to be a certain level of safety restrictions.

And again, a lot of games do beta weekends, especially considering how many betas have been open before this.

Yeah I'm aware that it carries over, but I've been waiting for XIV for a long time now, I couldn't play version 1 because my PC is pretty awful, so I guess I'm just a tiny bit mad they wouldn't give their fans something better.
I'm made even more angry that the people like me who have pre-ordered the game don't get more time with the early access, honestly I don't think I'll bother with the phase 4 beta or early access, for so little time to play I might aswell just wait untill the full game launches, maybe I'll give my code to a friend or something.

I think it's totally fine. I've been in betas for a few MMOs, so I guess I have a wider spectrum of reference and it doesn't bother me.

They could have done nothing at all which would have been less cool, and the price point for the game is pretty good I am pretty happy with the way they have done things so far.

Yeah I guess, I was just expecting something abit more player friendly.....still I think I'm going to skip the beta and early access, the next time I play XIV I want it to be full so I don't have to stop, so this early access code of mine is useless to me now.
