Pathfinder Interest Check

I'm considering GMing a Pathfinder game for a small group (3-5 players). There are a few things you should know about me as a potential GM.

1) I'm not a particularly great GM. I am still working on describing scenes with more detail and just generally lacking when it comes to the "fluff" that really sets the mood.

2) I am new to the site. I don't know which players would be good fits and which won't be.

3) I am not particularly in tune with Golarion (the Pathfinder world).

If still interested, I am looking for a small group of players to run an adventure path with, starting at 2nd level. I know 1st is recommended, but I encourage non-standard groups and character concepts and don't like seeing tedious, inspect every room type of quests, so there's a free head start.

If interested, let me know what kind of campaign you'd enjoy, any preferences regarding character types (not mechanical), posting frequency/length, and anything else you want to include.

UPDATE: Still following since new interest has sparked.

Welcome back, Nobody.

Micbunny, both of those ideas could work.

To everyone else, please read my posts on the first page, as they say a lot about what I am looking for, and just other things you should know before jumping in.

So the player list looks like...

i am nobody - sorcerer
micbunny - sorcerer or bard
badanime - ?
nanachan -?
wildwolfking -?
bucket - ?

And the base campaign concept is a unit or selection from a company in Korvosa that contracts mercenaries or other specialists.

That about the skin of it?

Yeah, sounds about right. Don't really have a player list yet, so pretty open. Also, don't worry if you want to play a sorcerer (or any class). I won't pick based on class composition, as I think it is more fun if the group has to be creative in using their abilities.

Sounds good. For char concepts, I'd love to hear what kind of ideas you have for background, race, and other flavor-related notes.

Searching images is definitely a pain. Be careful building a ranger, though, as many abilities will almost never be useful in an urban setting.

Thanks for the interest. I recommend checking out the first page, since I spend some time there talking about expectations and such. Also, any ideas for your char other than a high status type?

With the ranger, just take the Urban Ranger sub/archtype. it would be perfect for the city, all that really has to change is that the GM (kckolbe) needs to set up community types instead of terrain types. A useful little ranger for this adventure i would think if i do say so myself.

Link to read up on it: http://paizo.com/pathfinderRPG/prd/advanced/coreClasses/ranger.html#_urban-ranger

Urban ranger or maybe a druid that trains mice and evesdrops on pidgeons and things?

And that's a confirtmation that we're doing an urban campaign?

That is confirmation of an urban campaign. Rangers/druids are fine, as long as you mold them to fit the setting working for the "company."

BadAnime, char looks fine, though I would prefer myth-weavers for the sheet.

Monk or druid could work with that concept. So what are they actually supposed to be looking for? Definitely not opposed.

Sorry about that. I just wanted to get a post in last night so I didn't forget about the thread by today. I've never actually played in Pathfinder before, but the vast majority of my tabletop experience is in D&D 3.5 and I understand they're only a few steps apart and a lot of the mechanics are similar or unchanged, and I'm a pretty quick learner so I think I'll do just fine.

In any case, I don't have much of a huge preference for what kind of campaign this becomes, as long as there's room for a nice plot and some steamy action I'll probably be fine with it. I'm not terribly picky about post frequency unless there's only a new post once a week or so, because if it's an absolute crawl I'll lose interest pretty fast; I do, however, prefer posts with some meat to them and usually try to post between two and five decent paragraphs. For a group, though, I think two paragraphs or so could be a reasonable standard, if lower for fast-paced dialogue and whatnot.

As for characters you're absolutely right in assuming I tend toward particularly classy high-status types, and in campaigns this often translates to characters like foreign nobles with little influence in the area where the campaign takes place so that noble titles and the like don't become an advantage. I'd love to play, for instance, a high-class foreign lady, perhaps on some form of espionage mission to the city, in the guise of a beautiful dancer.

Mechanically I have few ideas, though--I usually like playing psionic characters, but I'm not sure if there's any of that in PF's core classes. In 3.5 I know they were included in the core SRD, but I don't know about PF yet. My only fast preference is to not play a brute-strength-oriented class, so maybe a mage or even a rogue or something.

Let me know if you have any more questions!

I have my character concept down (going with bard) and am working on sheet since I tend to try to incorporate mechanics with concept a bit. I shall get my sheet finished and put up for DM review sometime tomorrow most likely.

Well, I have posted my character sheet - the Half-Elf Bard with the Dervish Dancer archetype. Background is a work in progress.

If you need another player, i can easily whip up a character, I'm just not a huge fan of urban settings since i like to explore, but i think a Drow from a Drow city deep below this city coming up to slave or get a high standing in this city could be fun.

BadAnime: Half-elves are fine, but I think the draft you submitted was a human dervish dancer.

Bucket: I'm okay not going too much into detail, but if you want to create a religious order, I will need to know the basics (alignment, basic rules/traditions, etc). Also, I'm not comfortable with psionics in pathfinder. I just don't think they have the right feel, and prefer more traditional caster classes. As for flaws, if you go to the D20 SRD, the flaws from Unearthed Arcana are all listed there.

Princess: There is definitely a plot. Pathfinder Adventure Paths are written to be interesting stories, with opportunities for downtime (and steaminess). Pathfinder is very similar to D&D, and I don't expect there to be a problem learning it. I would prefer your char not actually be a foreign noble/ambassador, as I would like all chars to actually be citizens of Korvosa, even if they haven't been there long. So while there are many ways your char could have been brought up royal/noble and then had to submit to being a common performer/merc, I'd like her loyalties to be to the city in some way.

Sirix: I think we are good on party size.
