The Star Ship Oddyssy NCC - 71832 - B
The Destruction of the USS Odyssy NCC-7183 in 2370 marked the beginning of the Dominion Cold War, and the construction of the sovereign class starship would begin later that same year, during the dominion war only four Sovergn class ships had been produced. But after the dominion war, an additional twelve have been constructed with haste.

By the end of the dominion war, more ships had come off the line than capable officers to command them. The year is 2380 and the dominion war ended five years ago with death tolls in the untold millions. The federation is still recovering from its deep wounds, and tensions with the Romulan Star Empire are at an all-time high after the assassination of the Romulan High Council and a clone version of Captain Jean-Luc Picard named Shinzon attempted to commit a genocide of earth.

The new Odyssey - B is one of the twelve new sovereigns constructed for the Federation fleet. It's named legacy hoping to help guide the federation out of the dark ages of war and into something new and hopeful. However in it's hasty construction the Odyssey ended up just a touch... wrong. The lights flicker whenever the phasers fire, the shields are stuck at 98%, and the tables seem to vibrate whenever the ship reaches warp nine causing objects to fall over.

Rather than mothball one of the sixteen most expensive ships in the federation armada they decided to hand it to a crew fresh off the academy so that any defects could be written off as user error.

The ship is state of the art, but quirky, the crew is young and inexperienced, and yet somehow they will go forward. The Odyssey is about to leave the Utopia Planitia Fleet Yards on its maiden voyage, all it needs is a crew.

The TL;DR of this is that I am looking to launch a Star Trek group RP. Set just after the movie insurrection, but following our own timeline and ship. I will get up character sheets a little later, but all characters will be 18+ as the crew is meant to be fresh out of the academy. I'm looking to get together a bridge crew, I would play as the captain, and that means we need:

Captain - (Captain Nellis Keoh) east
1st officer (Lt Commander Alexander Stephens) - Captain_Bond
2nd officer -
chief Tactical Officer -
chief medical officer (lt commander) -
chief science officer (Luitenant T'Vara) - Silverbird
-> Helmsman -
Acting Chief Engineer (P'rmess) - ChrisGabriel

If this continues to expand and go forward as I hope it will we will open up into more ranks and larger character bases than what I have currently posted.

I've been watching a lot of lower decks lately, and have been mulling over ideas for a star trek rp for a long time, so I hope this goes well and catches a lot of people's interest.

The long awated character profile thread is here: Star Trek Iliade character profiles

the RP thread is here too now

we are gonna pick up where we left off, no need to reset something that barely got off the ground XD

I wasn't entirely sure who would be returning yet, our helmsman LeaT is the only one missing at the moment, but it's day one of getting things together, so I'll keep them as our listed helmsman until such time as we are sure they have left the group, (silverbird was the one who contacted me in DM so I know they will be returning as our chief science officer) the fluidity of writing sims being what they are, locking in our current cast and crew will always be a bit of a challenge though, but I guess I shouldn't have said everything was up in the air. I have edited the cast roster to reflect the most current known active members. It also seems like we will have at least one more Star Siren is an old friend of mine who wants to join and insists that they are ready and able, so we will let them cook and see what they come up with.

we are still early enough that you could take a comission up to first officer if you wanted, our previous first officer fell into a time paradox, and vanished from our bridge, as did our chief tactical officer, it happens a lot

We are still accepting basically anyone who is interested very interested in new members that would like to join us for this journey.

So. I know this has been in progress for a while now but @LeaT suggested there might be a role for me to play here as a reformed hacker of sorts, someone who could perhaps mess around with Leata's programming but also of course be helpful to the crew.

The character I will rework to fit this setting if there is some kind of opening for it is this one:

They were of course originally created for a different sci fi setting altogether (a bit more on the cyberpunk side of things perhaps) but I don't think there is all that much that would need to be reworked for them to fit into this setting.

Sounds very interesting, we do need a tactical officer, or head of security, and either roll could come with a unique background in computer hackery. If former criminal the character could be a provisional ensign or a nco, I'm sure there are ways to make it work.

Sorry I haven't been around new job and potential brain injury are taking up a lot of time I'm hoping to get back into writing by tomorrow at the latest

I personally love the concept as well as the prospect of you joining us, Bloomie! But you'd probably need to find a more Starfleet-appropriate role than "person who messes with Leata's programming." Recent posts had (briefly) explored the possible existence of a shipboard IT department that would have assisted Leata in investigating the fuckery going on at the station before the defecation hit the oscillation. Perhaps your character could head that department? Although it is rather niche, and we do need more "standard" roles such as Tactical Officer and CMO.

I doubt that will be Rory's official task but more a thing between myself and Lea, and our characters.

I was actually thinking Intelligence Officer. It just makes more sense given their skill set and background. Provisional Ensign or NCO works for me.

@east So is there anything About Rory that needs tweaking to fit the setting. Also, is my suggestion of them being an intelligence officer rather than tactical officer acceptable. I just feel their abilities are better suited for such a role.

So happy to hear your interest! I can share the thought nugget that originally prompted my suggestion. I don't see it at all as binding on your character, but just a possible idea.

In Bond's post below he suggests to Leata to find someone on the Odyessy's computer specialists to help hack into the station's system. My thought was that the 'official' computer specialists would be too straight laced for such a clandestine job. But there was someone in the crew that had some disciplinary or even legal troubles with hacking deep in their service record. It would be something of an opportunity for a 'second chance' for this low level crew member to become a critical part of the bridge crew instead of a shunned outcast.

So that is basically my opportunity to simply jump into play as soon as Rory has been approved as a character.

I am also thinking that since Rory is cybernetically enhanced to a significant degree that perhaps Leata would be about as close to a friend they have aboard the Odyssey and that would be the reason Leata approach them to fix that particular problem, to bypass the advanced coding and security systems protecting it.

Rory is a liberated Borg?

Nope.

They are an escaped illegal cybernetic experiment. The story for which I created them was supposed to provide more backstory about their actual origin and how they came to the black market lab where they woke up. That story fell through though so for now nothing is known of the first fifteen years of their life.

And the opportunity had passed once the phaser beams had started firing, unfortunately.

Been trying to read up on that mission and where everyone is but I keep getting distracted and/or interrupted. Could someone give me a briefing on what the mission is and why?

And I am unsure the opportunity has actually passed. I need to read through it more properly first but I do think there is still an opening.

Starfleet intelligence is definitely a road we could discuss,

I think there is definitely still room to answer that hail, my next post will have a lot of stuff going on in various locations including the odyssey which will be a good place for you to jump in.

As for cybernetic enhancements, most cybernetics in starfleet are not opt in based, but rather implanted due to grave injury during service in the field. Cybernetic like genetic augmentation seems to be a scenario for when it is medically necessary, so just keep that in mind for their backstory. Most cyborgs in starfleet did not want to be cyborgs, but have it thrust upon them.

it seems you want to go with a bit of that since your stuff is black market. I'd recommend using an organization like the Orion Syndicate, space pirates would have a far more liberal view of cybernetic experimentation than anyone in the federation, and could lead to more story down the line if they get included in the plot.

I can also help you in DM if you desire, as I am back from having my brain scanned.

As it already read in their back story they have not requested these cybernetic enhancements but rather they have been illegally experimented on

This makes perfect sense in the context of a Star Trek setting and as I think I mentioned the idea was for their backstory to become known through plot development in the story for which they were created and having The Odyssey encounter an organisation like the Orion Syndicate would certainly aid in that.
