Why are people more into ( Romantically/ Lust) supernatural beings nowadays?

Well, most people are not. The people that are were already. I've been writing since the 90's when I was a kid and I've always been into supernatural stuff. My love for the supernatural, vampires specifically, started when I was a kid after seeing Brad Pitt as Louis.

Probably fantasy and escapism, imo. I don't think it's strictly a nowadays thing though, since there's somewhat older movies and stuff that seem to have that romantic or otherwise vibe about them. It kind seems to me that over all, our culture sorta cycles through supernatural things in media as trends (ie. vamps and weres). I mean the concept of sex demons and stuff have existed for a very long time.

A great deal of the Vampire mythos has built up around lust and romance. If you don't want to go as far back as Polodori, then shit, look at Vampire: the Masquerade in the 90's, building on the love/lust dynamic Anne Rice had started to really hammer home.

Human beings are literally garbage apes and it's nice to be able to fantasize about something different.

You have a point there, for example the fallen angels mated with mortal women (along with teaching mankind alot of forbidden arts) and created the nephilim (giants by bible standards)

Ironically i dint like vampires as a kid now i think of em as pure badasssery

This. When I RP, I want to be something that isn't a human because I'm a human every day. Though for me it's anthros, not vampires/werewolves/etc.

Any allure vampires/etc have has been driven out for me by sheer oversaturation.

Vampires? Meh, sure, if they're old and powerful and sufficiently inhuman. Shifters? Sure, if they're well in-tune with their animal sides, possibly even as a "two souls one body" arrangement, with the animal part not always understanding why the human part adds so many complications to things. But you gotta' give me scales baby, that's what gets my blood pumping.

As to why? Honestly I've been trying to figure it out myself, to little avail. Most of the literature I read growing up had dragons as companions of either below-human intelligence, or, at best, very subserviant to humans for "reasons" (helloooooo, Dragonriders of Pern [edit: there was absolutely no human/dragon fucking in any of the series I read! ...except that one by Janine Cross]). And yet, here I am, nearly thirty and with a weird-ass kink for the old, powerful, and often callous, with wings and scales and sometimes even breathing fire.

Given how much urban fantasy I read with vampires (ah-hem, most of the Anita Blake series, even after it turned into porn...), I feel a bit ripped off that I didn't come off with a better set of fetishes. Peh!

I've been trying to figure this out myself for a long while as well just like Iasciel. It's even harder still because most of what comes to mind just ends up sounding a bit too Freudian for my taste. (Much of his theories do stand at least in general concept, but I can't help but feel distaste for that guy...)

Anyways, this is the best theory I can think of. Some people here have suggested it's because they're something special compared to everyday humans, something different. But while that thought is on the right track, it might not be the complete picture. What I would ask is "Why is being different so special?" and the only answer I can come up with is pride or power. That's obvious if you're roleplaying the non-human creature, pretending to be something far different and out of league with everyone else the human your character is with had dealt with in the past. That obviously creates quite the power trip. But it can work the other way around. If your character is the normal human that's getting it on with the non-human creature then that must mean there was something about you that made you unique among your peers. There was something about your human that made them worth the attention of this superior being, and thus they end up discovering that they were superior themselves the whole time.

You can sort of see this play out in standard human x human interactions as well. There's the classic romance story of the prince or princess falling in love with the lower commoner, a fairly obvious comparison. You can also see this in interracial fantasies as well. Much as we might want to pretend we're no longer like this, our society is still very often compartmentalized into communities based on simple external traits, race being one of the big ones. Even in more progressive communities, remnants of the sense that someone of a different race as something being 'otherly' still linger around. (It's a mindset that's existed in humans since before recorded history, it's not going to be snuffed out of us after a little century's worth of attempt to fight it within only a fraction of the world's population.)

Now as for why certain kinds of creatures are fantasized about, that I don't think can be explained with a simple theory. That sort of thing sounds situational, can only be explained on an individual basis. I don't know if I could come up with a theory to explain interest in a specific kind of creature. My huge kink for lycans (or really any kind of shapeshifting anthros) could be coming from something completely different than where someone else with the same interest has. But I do hope my theory still helps with finding the answer in some way.

I agree, we should have more manbear pigs or other anthros

You’re talking to a dragon fanatic here (well in the game of yugioh anyhow), ever since i was in middle school when i started watching bakugan and reading the dragon knight manga. I just love how ferocious and fearsome they are, and once their bonding to their companion flourishes you are able to see a more kinder side of those towering fire breathing badasses.
