Banished from Paradise (DudeGuy & lipslikemorphine )

She curled up closer to him, letting her arms drape around his neck. He was trying so hard to help her, even with her being the blubbering fool she was. She looked up at him. "Thank you so much for this." She mumbled, her voice a little shaky. She let one of her hands drop and was absent mindedly drawing invisible doodles on his chest with her index finger, her eyes zoning out as she did so, tears silently falling down her face. "I'm the only one left." She whispered. "I hadn't cried yet." Her voice was so quiet, she was almost unsure if he could hear her. "I was almost with them."

Clearly, Raizel did not understand what Kelsey was talking about. Being the only one left and almost with them. He felt it was not his place to pry into such matters. If she wished to tell him, she would. If not? He simply would not know. What he did know was that Kelsey had a lot of pain bottled up inside. Though there wasn't much he could do to help her, he could offer some words of advice to her. That was what he had been doing. It seemed to be helping, but from what he understood, emotions could not be so easily swayed. It took even demons time to corrupt a person. And as that was the case, there was no way that an angel could just speak and change the way that someone felt.

"You are tired now, you need to get some rest." If nothing else, he was sure that sleeping after releasing these emotions would help. Almost sure. Somehow. . .someway, something inside of him was telling him that abandoning such a matter at a time like this was wrong. She needed something more. What was it though?

She had rested her head on the angels shoulder, the tears still streaming down her face. Now her hands were in her lap but one hand lightly gripped at the angels cloak. Kelsey was trying to calm down, but for some reason the angel had sparked her old emotions, all the old pain. "They died, all of them." She whispered. "Father, Mother, Brother...all gone in a fire." She leaned her face into the crook of his neck sobbing. "I couldn't save them." She sobbed, her voice growing louder. "They said it was an accident. I don't think so, but they wanted me. They always come back." She looked up at the angel, her eyes full of pleading and fear. "That thing was one of them." she knew he'd realize she was talking about the demon at the park.

He had mentioned sleep, yeah, it might be a good idea. She curled up more on his lap, her head resting on his shoulder once more. She closed her eyes and tried to relax, her hand resting on the abdomen of the angel.

If there were one thing that Raizel could relate to now, it was loss. He was stuck here on Earth, unable to re-enter Heaven or even approach the Gates. Being stuck here on Earth was a punishment for him. Or. . .so it seemed. Perhaps, there was a good reason that he was still here in the mortal world, maybe, there was good he could do here. Not just protecting the humans who populated this planet that mirrored Heaven, but by helping those who so obviously needed the help. Kelsey being one of them.

There was a gut wrenching pain in the voice of the young woman as she explained that she lost her father, her mother, and her brother all in a fire. It was no accident, the work of demons perhaps? Was it possible that Kelsey was being targeted by demons? If her suspicions were correct, they were specifically coming after her. But what could Kelsey, a simple human girl have that they would want? What reason would they have for coming after her life? Other than the normal reasons that killed people.

Something was strange about this situation. . .something that sparked Raizel's interest. It was painfully obvious to him now that he finally found his reason for being stuck here on Earth, a reason that he crossed paths with this girl.

She was finally starting to drift to sleep, curled onto Raziel's lap. She was still so unsure why the demon's followed her, but she moved every 6 months or so because they'd find her location. It had only been 3 months this time and already one had found her, but she understood why, out of desperation she had searched for the rumored angel and here he was and she was curled in his lap. She had only wanted to know he was there, to know he'd protect her if he noticed her. That was it, and now he was here, he had saved her life. She finally fell asleep, throughout the night she started to have dreams about Raziel saving her, killing off demons, keeping her safe, and soon her dreams started switching to imagining her spending forever with him. She smiled in her sleep, her hands moving across his body every so often, making sure he was still in her arms.

Raizel drifted off to sleep himself not too long afterward. Resting was important for him, as it allowed him time to recover from his wounds and more importantly, restore the magical energy that he used up. In his dreams? He saw Heaven, the life he lead before he returned to the mortal world. Still fresh in his mind were those moments when he decided that he would come to the human world. He defied the Angels that outranked him, he defied even the Almighty. He remembered the confusion of not only others, but himself as he made his decision. He had been. . .firm in the decision, he went through with it knowing that there was a chance that he could never return. That wasn't a logical decision. It wasn't something that an Angel would normally do. So why did he do it? What was special about him?

Raizel slowly opened his eyes, which were now more amber than they had been the day before and his hair even darker. Slowly, his ran his fingers back through his hair, brushing the stray strands back into place while moving others from were they had been resting. Kelsey was still there, curled up in his lap. Her head was resting against his shoulder, while her hand moving along his abdomen every now and then. When he looked down at her face, he could see that there was a smile on it. It. . .suited her much better than the painful expression she wore the night before.

He closed his eyes once more.

His fate was somehow tied in with the fate of this girl who was in need his help. Raizel would have to talk to her more today, ask about what she meant when she said that they always came after her. If he understood her situation more, he would know what he could do to help her.

Kelsey had slept soundly, her thoughts having gone from happiness, to hate, to happiness again. It had been a roller coaster of emotions the night before, and that angel, he had saved her. She had broken down in tears, had spilled her heart to him, and he held her while she slept. She had to wake up, make sure he was really there, that she hadn't dreamed it all. Her eyes flew open and she sat up quickly. Her eyes were wide with panic but then calmed down when she saw the angel sleeping soundly where she had just had been resting. She really had fallen asleep in the arms of an angel. She smiled softly to herself and gently kissed Raziel's cheek. She uncurled herself and got up off of the couch making her way to the kitchen.

A mistake. Raizel was wide awake, not asleep as she thought. The angel could feel her move away from him and into a different room in the apartment. Once she was in the other room, he opened his eyes once again. Surprised and a bit confused, Raizel touched the part of his cheek that her lips touched. A kiss was an affection gesture, even just a peck on the cheek could be considered as such. Why she would do something like that to him he didn't understand.

His eyes slowly fell down his arm and his attention was drawn to the wound he received the night before. Just as he said, it had closed up. But, there were marks on his arm - no, not just marks, but scabs. He shouldn't have had scabs, it should have been smooth and flawless like the rest of his skin. He would have to wait a while longer to figure out exactly what was going on with his body.

Just as the thought crossed his mind, he heard a strange noise and felt a weird sensation in his abdomen. He was hungry. Sleeping replaced the magical energy and some of the physical energy, but he needed to get the same kind of nutrients that humans needed to really replenish his strength. He figured out that much in the time that he spent in the park. The berries that he found were adequate, but they weren't nearly enough to really keep him going.

Raizel stood up and headed in the direction that Kelsey had gone when she woke, wondering what she was doing now.

Kelsey had taken out some bacon and eggs and was now cooking them on a skillet. She was humming a sweet soft tune to herself, a lullaby her mother had sang to her on many occasions when she had been afraid.
"Because the greatest love of all..." She had heard Raziel enter the room and stopped suddenly. She turned around and looked at the magnifecent angel. His hair was darker than last night, but his eyes still golden, and that wound, it was scabbed. Shouldn't he have healed? Did this worry Raziel too? She stepped closer to him. "Good morning." She smiled up at him and then looked down at the wound. "Shouldn't it be gone by now?" She asked tentatively touching the scab that was left behind.

"Good morning. There is no need to worry, I am fine," Raizel said, his voice as calm as always. He had several oval shaped scabs on his arms from where the cat like creature bit him the night before. At most, the stung. It wasn't pain, just an aggravating tingling sensation. Though there was some concern as to the amount of time it would take to completely heal over, he was confident that it would take care of itself.

"You seem to be in much better spirits now, that is certainly a good thing." Of course, he was referring to her breakdown the previous night. He still had lots of questions for her, primarily questions about the presence of demons in her life, but he would have to ask her about those things later. What he really needed was something to eat, a bath, and a change of clothes. He couldn't go walking around in his current outfit all of the time, he would definitely draw unwanted attention.

When he reassured her of his condition she turned back towards the stove putting the eggs and bacon on two plates. "Hungry?" She asked, putting a plate on the table for him. She sat down on the other side of the table and picked up her fork taking a few bites. "When you're done I'll get you some extra clothes and you can clean up."

Food. Hot food. A warm place to stay. A change of clothes. Raizel felt as if he were being spoiled by his human hostess. Her hospitality was a welcome change to what he had come to accept as normal here in the human world. "Yes, thank you," he said as he took the seat be the plate of food closest to him. After taking the first bite, he was hooked. He began to eat a bit faster, taking in the hot food quickly. He hadn't had a meal like this since he had come here to Earth. The food was enough to fill him up for now, and he suddenly felt more energized. Raizel took a look at his arm and noticed that the wound had begun to heal over a bit more. His guess was that they would be completely gone within an hour or two. Maybe he was worrying a bit too much about nothing? Only time would tell.

Kelsey finished her meal just shortly before Raziel, but she stayed in her chair and watched him. He was so sweet, he had saved her, held her while she cried last night, and wasn't some ego crazed person like she had pictured some angels to be. She was glad for this. She got up and put both of their dishes in the sink and then turned around. "In the hallway, 2nd door on the right is the bathroom, on the other side of the hallway is a closet, there are lots of old clothes from my ex in there that you are welcome to use." She smiled and went into the living room.

After thanking Kelsey for breakfast, Raizel excused himself and headed into the bathroom.

Almost instinctively, Raizel knew what to do. He didn't need to ask about light switches, locks on doors, faucets, or even how to work showers. Those things were done subconsciously. Upon examining the room, he found towels sitting on the counter beside the sink. For him to use he guessed.

The angel paused as he took a look at himself in the mirror. He almost didn't recognize himself at first. His eyes and hair were slowly darkening more and more every day. His eyes and hair had both been gold upon coming to the human world. His eyes were now a bright shade of amber, and his hair was almost brown. From what he saw, the roots were already black in color. He suddenly felt what he could only describe as a pulse shooting through his body. A single heart beat that shook him too the core, causing his mind to go blank for a moment. In that instant, it felt as if everything were gone.

Images flashed in his head of someone he didn't recognize. He could see a pair of lips moving, but heard no sound coming from them.

And then, he suddenly found himself back in the bathroom, doubled over the sink trembling. He wasn't quite sure about what just happened but he was certain that he didn't want to experience anything like that again. After a hot shower, and taking the time to thoroughly clean himself up, Raizel headed into the room across from the bathroom where all of the old clothes that Kelsey's ex left behind were. He picked up a white button up shirt and a pair of khaki cargo pants, finally appearing to be. . .somewhat normal.

He pulled his hair back into a ponytail, finally satisfied with his looks. Having his hair back out of his face would also help should he find himself in a situation where he were in a fight. Finally finished, he returned to the living room in search of his host.

Kelsey had been standing in the living room, tidying things up when her guest Raziel returned from the shower. "Feel better?" She asked before turning to notice how much darker his hair was, but that his face looked gaunt and terrified. "W...What's wrong? Did something happen?" She rushed over to him and put her hand gently on his cheek. "what happend in there? You look like you've seen a ghost or something?" She chuckled at her slight joke, but then returned to being serious and caring. "Are you ok? Come here sit down." She guided him over to the couch and sat down next to him.

"I am fine," he said as he was pushed down into the seat. More than anything, Raizel was confused. All of the images that he had seen flash in his mind were just a bit. . .taxing. They were as ambiguous as most messages from Him were, and that left the ethereal being to try and figure them out for himself. He doubted that such things were messages, but he wasn't exactly sure. Could they have been. . .memories? Now that he thought about it, he somehow knew how to work all of the strange things that he had seen in the bathroom, and had even been able to discern between clothing that he liked and didn't like with relative ease and speed.

Maybe. . .? No. That couldn't have been.

"I think dealing with a ghost would have been much easier, but I assure you, there is nothing to worry about," Raizel said, once more ensuring Kelsey that he was alright.

Kelsey looked down at her lap. "What happend? Or can you not tell me?" She asked innocently. She looked back up to him, her eyes were full of curiousity and wonder.

"It's not that I can't tell you, I. . .don't think I know exactly how to word it. I don't even think I know what happened," Raizel said, raising his hand to touch his forehead. It was throbbing after all of those things had suddenly come to him. If Kelsey had been paying close attention to Raizel and his mannerisms, she would notice that, for the first time, he used a contraction. His language, his movements, everything had always been proper. Flawless even. But now? He seemed to be a bit different. A bit more human somehow. Even this ethereal being was having trouble processing what had just transpired in his own mind.
