Rachel sat in the front passenger seat of her parent's minivan, her feet propped up on the dashboard and her arms folded across her chest. She had a not quite scowl on her face as her firey red hair hung in front of her face, though it tapered off to mid neck level as it went back. "I could have driven myself," she said quietly to her older sister, Sarah.
Sarah looked at her, the look was one of someone whose patience was at an end but was still struggling to keep cool. "No you cant, you had your licence suspended remember."
"Bureaucratic bullshit." Rachel turned slightly and looked out the window, peeking out just under the top of her shirt could be seen the black and red lines of a new tattoo, it was slightly puffy and still a little sore, though even that was starting to fade.
A sigh from Sarah. "You had a night terror and drove your car into a tree, thats hardly what I would call bull shit." Trying to keep her emotions in check she reached out to touch her sister's shoulder, despite the trouble she did love her and was concerned for her.
Rachel rounded on her sister. "It wasnt a nightmare Sarah! I told you I was being chased! I told everyone, but none of you will-"
"Please just stop! Just stop, I dont want to get into it again." This was a fight that had been raging for a long time, a fight where neither was willing to back down. "Rachel all this...this bogeyman nonsense, it needs to stop, cant you see the drain your-"
"Thanks for the ride," Rachel said quickly as she opened the door and stepped out of the van. Going to the back door she opened it and grabbed her books. "Dont bother coming to pick me up, I'll walk." Sarah started to open her mouth to say something but Rachel slammed the door and strode off.
There was no talking to her sister. She was convinced Rachel was the reason their parents were having such a hard time. Sarah had put a lot of her plans on hold when it seemed Rachel's behavior was worsening and her parents needed the help. Rachel could practically feel the resentment coming off her sister. Rachel for her part did as much as she could to stay away from spending time with her family, she couldnt stand being around Sarah and all she saw was guilt in her parents faces. She was tired of it. Pulling a book from the bottom of her stack as she walked she flipped it open to an earmarked page, a page describing ancient protective symbols. There was one, a sigil to guard against evil spirits. That was the new tattoo Rachel had. She hoped it would help.
