Rachel sat in the front passenger seat of her parent's minivan, her feet propped up on the dashboard and her arms folded across her chest. She had a not quite scowl on her face as her firey red hair hung in front of her face, though it tapered off to mid neck level as it went back. "I could have driven myself," she said quietly to her older sister, Sarah.

Sarah looked at her, the look was one of someone whose patience was at an end but was still struggling to keep cool. "No you cant, you had your licence suspended remember."

"Bureaucratic bullshit." Rachel turned slightly and looked out the window, peeking out just under the top of her shirt could be seen the black and red lines of a new tattoo, it was slightly puffy and still a little sore, though even that was starting to fade.

A sigh from Sarah. "You had a night terror and drove your car into a tree, thats hardly what I would call bull shit." Trying to keep her emotions in check she reached out to touch her sister's shoulder, despite the trouble she did love her and was concerned for her.

Rachel rounded on her sister. "It wasnt a nightmare Sarah! I told you I was being chased! I told everyone, but none of you will-"

"Please just stop! Just stop, I dont want to get into it again." This was a fight that had been raging for a long time, a fight where neither was willing to back down. "Rachel all this...this bogeyman nonsense, it needs to stop, cant you see the drain your-"

"Thanks for the ride," Rachel said quickly as she opened the door and stepped out of the van. Going to the back door she opened it and grabbed her books. "Dont bother coming to pick me up, I'll walk." Sarah started to open her mouth to say something but Rachel slammed the door and strode off.

There was no talking to her sister. She was convinced Rachel was the reason their parents were having such a hard time. Sarah had put a lot of her plans on hold when it seemed Rachel's behavior was worsening and her parents needed the help. Rachel could practically feel the resentment coming off her sister. Rachel for her part did as much as she could to stay away from spending time with her family, she couldnt stand being around Sarah and all she saw was guilt in her parents faces. She was tired of it. Pulling a book from the bottom of her stack as she walked she flipped it open to an earmarked page, a page describing ancient protective symbols. There was one, a sigil to guard against evil spirits. That was the new tattoo Rachel had. She hoped it would help.

Astrid Robin McCloud pushed her circular glasses up her nose as she sat on the bench waiting for the first lecture of the day to start. In fact she was sitting on the bench directly opposite the lecture theatre and was humming quite happily to herself as she flipped through the pages of the book. She was a nice looking young woman with long messy black hair peppered with white, apart from the front where a streak of it was tied back into the scruffy pony tail behind her, strands poking out and running along the side of her face as they refused to submit to her wants. The hair had been brought on by stress and had just never gone back, she didn't know why it wasn't real and had just been a person. She remembered it clearly as the day.

Frowning she focussed her sea green eyes onto the pages in front of her again taking in the information. She had much more pressing things to deal with right now. She was wearing a rather loose fitting shirt that was a couple of sizes big for her, that was a nice chequered green colour, and underneath was a simple vest that moved over her jeans and black boots that rose above her ankle. She was in short the visual image of scruffy but smart as all of it just seemed to work on her nicely.

Turning the page she was snapped out of her train of thought by a few of her friends coming over and gave them a smile as she waved and soon enough was engaged in the casual normal, yes normal chatter of them. She heard about their weekend who was dating who, what was what. All of it she didn't seem to be involved in... She just didn't feel comfortable staying out after dark. No that was the time for home and studying and her dad forcefully driving her to her fencing society to practice and whatever crazy club she had joined that her dad talked her in to. "Oh yeah that's...great." She responded having just realised that there was a question directed at her. "Erm if you'll excuse me, i need to grab a drink." She made a quick get away before heading to the nearest vending machine in the halls to by something sugary and sweet and most likely carbonated, just to set her nerves. She didn't know why her heart had started to hammer in her chest.

"Keep it together McCloud.." She said in a rather light Scottish accent, mimicking her mother and father's words of wisdom... if you could call it that.

Looking out over the crowds and cliques and people laughing Rachel frowned sadly, she had never really been popular even before her life had turned into a living nightmare. She had been the scrawny little redheaded kid that everyone had liked to tease and make fun of. the ginger jokes were becoming all the rage when she was getting into fifth and sixth grade. She had really only had one friend, who had ended up turning on her like everyone else. And before they were even in junior high they had drifted apart, eventually ending up in two separate high schools when the boundaries changed. She had not spoken to Astrid in years.

Still looking out on the crowds Rachel did feel envious, would her life be different now if she had lied? No, she really didnt think so, sure she could have lied to everyone else but the truth of it would have stuck with her and probably would have driven her mad. The world might look at her as mad now, but she knew she was still very much sane. Probably the sanest person alive because she knew the truth, there was something waiting to get you in the dark.

Gripping her books tighter in her arms Rachel trudged off towards the lecture hall where her drama class was set to take place. She kept her head down and tried to avoid the stares of others. Despite her best efforts rumors seemed to have circulated about her almost over night. She could hear the whispers of crazy or bogey girl. She even heard a few snickers. Oh sure not everyone was looking at her, not even half of the people she passed, but it was still happening and it made her even more miserable. A trip to her quiet place on the way home was definitely in order.

"I need a drink," she muttered and turned to head to a nearby vending machine. Looking up she froze. It was Astrid, she still had the streaks of white in her hair, a side effect of what they had seen that night. A bloodred smile on a white face and razor sharp teeth flashed in her mind and Rachel let out a whimper, looking to turn away, get away before Astrid saw her. She turned right into the barrel chest of a large football jock. Her books fell almost with a bang as she was knocked on her ass.

"Watch where your going!" he said loudly, his face a scowl as he kicked her book on witchcraft and runes away. It skidded across the cement until it stopped next to Astrid.

Astrid blinked as she just stood there holding the can of something as she saw Rachel, her eyes widening behind her glasses as she watched her stumble away. She chewed the inside of her cheek as if that would be enough to keep back words. Her heart hammered in her chest. No it was a man, it was just some psycho. She watched her fall into a jock and let out a slight sigh as she went forward to say something but her foot came onto the book of witchcraft. Was she still reading this junk?

She plucked the book up into her hand and tucked it under her arm. "Hey back off she didn't mean it!" She said before she could stop the words from tumbling out of her mouth and was taking Rachel to get her away from them to the lecture hall. She rounded around the corner before holding up the book as if it was something vile. "What the heck are you doing still reading this crap?" She asked her, as if disappointed with her and opened it to flip through the pages.

"Do you still believe in monsters?" She asked before shaking her head and slamming it shut to give her the book back. "You really haven't changed have you?" She asked tucking one arm behind her, avoiding as much eye contact as she possibly could.

Rachel gathered up the books that had fallen, ignoring the jock as he continued on his stupid tyraid. She didnt care about anything he had to say, she had faced much worse than him in her life. Still she also didnt want to make life more miserable for herself so she bit her tongue and kept silent as a slur of derogattory names were hurled at her. It was then she felt a hand on her upper arm as someone pulled her up. She moaned as she heard Astrid's voice telling the jock off before she was dragged away toward the lecture hall, she allowed herself to be lef because she saw Astrid had her book in her hand.

She frowned as they stopped and Astrid began to get on her case about the book. She snatched it from her former friends hands. "Listen, you dont get to tell me what I can and cant read, you abandoned me remember, called me crazy like everyone else. Hell we havent spoken in fucking years. So dont pretend like I matter to you or that what I read fucking matters to you." Her blood was up now. "If you really cared about me or anything I did you would have supported your friend, we both saw what happened that night, Im just not too stupid or stubborn to admit what it was."

All the years of anger and frustration at her friends betrayel were bubbling out. "Excuse me, I have to get to class." She brushed roughly past Astrid and started walking toward the lecture hall, hot tears brimming in her eyes. She had finally said what she wanted to, had told Astrid off, but she still felt like shit. She rubbed the back of her neck and winced at the sting the new tattoo brought with it.

Astrid stood there as she was bombarded with that information before letting out a trembling breath and lowered her head a bit before pulling up her shirt a little. "Because you're believing in ghosts and things that don't exist.." She returned but was pushed to the side in order for her to get passed. Closing her eyes she fought back the sting of tears and moved to collect her bag and books before slipping into the lecture theatre and sat near the back to be out of anyone's sight.

She sat through the lecture as she spun her pencil in her hand writing down the occasional note but her heart just wasn't in it. The words that Rachel had said were stinging like a wasp's sting. Would things have been different if she had just agreed it was real... which it wasn't... it couldn't have been. She rubbed the side of her head as it flashed back to a large tall muscular thing. She was feeling her breath close up in her throat as the thought of screaming terrified her more.

She didn't know how long she had spaced out for before opening her eyes and it had been the end of the lecture. She glanced around seeing people packing up and leaving and closed her eyes. "Fucking Rachel..." She muttered and began to put her things into her bag, zipping it up tightly before peering down at the ground, making up her mind on where to go next. She had a few hours till her next class... Chewing her thumb she walked away and heading to the campus library. She browsed through the shelves, remembering exactly the cover of that book, not so surprisingly there was nothing like that in the library. But there were some that were similar. Taking it off she flipped through the pages, scan reading it. "This is crazy..." Seeing Rachel had stirred memories, deep and repressed and she hated it.

The drama class would have been what others called fun, to Rachel she was just going through the motions. Her parents wanted her in college, so i order to cause even more grief she went, she got good grades too, in some classes, in others her grades were passable. For the most part Drama was one of the classes she scored the highest in. That Creative Writing and ASL. The Drama and Creative Writing Classes were good outlets for her to express er fears and not get into trouble over it. Last year she had actually gotten the lead role in the school production, but that was mainly because it was a horror production and no one could pull off authentically scared like Rachel could. That morning, though after Sarah and Astrid. It just wasnt worth participating. Her teacher came over to see if she was all right and Rachel had flashed her an uneasy smile and just blamed it on bad sushi.

After that she had twenty minutes until ASL and so took a walk around the sunny quad, she tried to enjoy it, she really did, but all the smiling, happy ignorant people just sunk her deeper into a funk. Would that she could be like them, but she couldnt and that wasnt going to change. Taking a deep breath she resolved to steel herself and at least pretend to be pleasant the rest of the day. It worked sometimes. She had gone a whole year once where her family finally thought the storm had blown over then Halloween hit and everything had gone tits up.

Sitting down under a large oak tree Rachel just watched the crowd. Her eyes lingered on a few of the girls she saw out there. Ones she found physically attractive. She had never talked to any of them and probably wouldnt, but there was nothing to say an emotionally traumatized young woman couldnt fantasize. But even as she thought about them her first crush popped unwillingly to her mind. Astrid, fucking Astrid. Well that was a ship that had long since sailed. Today was the first day she had ever told her one time friend even a little of how much her betrayal had hurt her. But it had hurt worse than Rachel suspected that she could put into words. Turning her head away from a cute brunette she looked over at the library just in time to see Astrid walking in, very nervously.

She tried to tell herself that she didnt care, that it was none of her business, that she was done with the other woman. But with a groan she stood and strode quickly to the library. She entered in time to see Astrid ride the elevator to the top floor where all the obscure books were kept. She almost turned around again but followed her up on the second elevator. It took her a moment to find her one time friend but when she did she crouched down until she saw the book Astrid was looking at. "If its so crazy why are you here?" She asked loudly, stepping out from around a corner. She noted the similarity in the book she owned to the one in Astrid's hand. "And why do you care so much what Im reading?"

Astrid continued to look through it seeing that it was talking about protective runes, fetishes that can keep evil spirits away. Early witchcraft it was stupid and idiotic stuff that was the stuff of freaking fiction and she was just about to close it and put it away before looking over at Rachel. "Here to insult me again?" She asked as she snapped it closed and placed it back. "This stuff isn't good for you you know... it's keeping you back... back then." She pushed her glasses up as they slipped down her nose before going to walk passed. "Am i not allowed to just see what it might contain? It scares me that you're still clinging onto this as if you need it to freaking wake up in the morning." She gripped the side of her back looking to the ground.

"You haven't changed since then.." She massaged her temple before turning around. "But hey i'm sure you don't want to talk to the person who quote on quote abandoned you, and i don't see why you wanted to follow me." She added before heading towards the stairs. But came to a stop as she was gripping the railing a little too tight as her knuckles turned into a pale white colour. She had to ask, she had to know.

Looking over her shoulder she turned slowly. "Why... why do you want this to be real?" questioned her, as she ran a shaking hand through her black and white hair. She just had to get through one more lecture, but Rachel had to... had to turn up and bring all of this back. She was scared, scared of what was happening. Scared of the night that was coming in exactly five hours and twenty three minutes... In a sad habit she had been sure to learn to check the sky for when night was to come. She just wanted to go home and hide in the corner of her room. "Why do you need this to be real..?"

"I dont care that your looking at it, the question you should ask is why do you care that Im looking at it, why do you care what I do. When all the adults said Rachel was crazy you broke and said it right along with them. My parents had me committed for the rest of that year." she let Astrid walk by her, if this was what the other woman wanted, fine Rachel would let her live in her delusion. But she turned when Astrid asked her question. "Why the fuck would I want this to be real, do you think I like the whispers, the laughter, the fucking nicknames. Do you think I like my family thinking Im just as crazy as everyone else thinks I am or that my best friend, a girl I might have-" she cut off and cleared her throat, that didnt matter, not anymore.

"I dont want this to be fucking real Astrid, but I wont lie to myself and say that its not, I know what I saw, I know what we saw and I dont want what happened to Anne to happen to me." She held her own book up. "As for this stuff, I dont know that its real, but I dont know that it isnt either and I'll take whatever help I can get." She shoved the book hard back into her bag. "But you go on, go back to your semi quasi happy existence. Fool yourself into thinking the one person who never lied to you is crazy or cracked or the bogey girl or whatever else you call me behind my back. I really dont give a fuck. You left me a long time ago." She turned around and walked into the aisle, maybe there was something she had missed. The book Astrid held hadnt looked familiar and dark was coming.

"Bogey girl? I never called you any of that.." She said but it was too late as she was walking off... "Rachel you scared me, i don't know what the fuck i saw then or what happened to Anne... it happened. I went to therapy i got better it wasn't... It couldn't have been real if something like..." She felt the words choking in her mouth before shaking her head. "Continue to live in your fucked up world then!" She screamed as tears began to form in her eyes and she just darted down the stairs.

Not bothering with class she found a quiet place, a place where she could cry and let her emotions run free. The cubical in the bathroom did just that. She felt herself trembling, why did she... SHE cut through her like butter, it was as if her words were a razor and herself was nothing more than a target to take them. "She's wrong... she's wrong..." She fiddled around on her wrist and began to tug on the elastic bands there letting them snap down onto her skin to keep them back. That fucking image continued to show in her head, that night coming back. Tearing it's way through her brain to the surface.

The top floor of the library was not brightly lit and the light that filtered in from the widows on the bottom floors didnt reach as deep into the stacks as Rachel was now. She had heard Astrid's parting words and it suprised her that they had hurt as much as they did. It had been years, she thought she was over the pain her friend had caused but as silent tears streamed down her cheek's and fell onto her oversized flannel shirt she realized that she did in some corner of her mind still care about Astrid and what she said. She stopped looking through the books and crouched down, resting her arms on her thighs and burying her face into her arms as her shoulders shook from silent sobs.

This was not how it was supposed to be. It was always supposed to be Rachel and Astrid against everything else. But in the blink of an eye that promise had come crashing down. Lifting her head she tried to wipe away the tears when she noticed a light above her begin to flicker, then another and another and another, they had been dim to begin with but now she was flickering in and out of darkness. Rachel, a voice seemed to rasp from all around her. Rachel, Anne and I are waiting. Gasping Rachel fell back onto her ass and scooted away from the bookcase, horror in her eyes.

Oh come now Rachel, you cant run forever, and besides arent you tired of running, tired of all the mockery? I mean no one believes you, even Astrid left you, your parents and sister resent and hate you. Come with me, its better here, The voice almost seemed to chuckle and all the badness in her life, the misery flooded into her mind and...and maybe the voice was right, maybe it was better to just let go, she was tired of fighting. the lights in front of her went out and she swore she saw something move in the darkness. Thats right Rachel, step into the darkness and all your worries end.

Rachel stood and stepped forward, right on the edge of the shadows, she swayed drunkenly, tears still falling as she fought within herself, the Rachel clinging to life and the other one who wanted it all to end.

Astrid calmed down after a few minutes, she was still in the library just a few floors down. Wiping her red eyes she slipped her glasses back on and saw how she looked in the mirror. Her eyes puffy and heavy from struggling to sleep, and tears. The black hair she was once so proud of now unkempt and stained with the memories of that night... She could see herself visibly trembling as she stared at herself for a long moment and gripped the bag tighter as she decided to do the thing that she was probably scared of the most. "I'm a grown up now.... i'm not scared..." She turned towards the door and began to creep up the stairs slowly.

As she rounded the last stair case to the top floor she noticed it was a fair bit darker than before, and her step faltered as she froze on the steps. The dark, danger. Her breathing increased as she stared into the blackness trying to pluck up the courage to move in, but every part of her body was screaming for her to turn tail and run. Fumbling into her bag quickly she pulled out her emergency torch and clicked it on. The light shining up there as she began to walk further up the stairs. One step.... two steps. It was a constant battle to make it up, and she just about managed to get to the stairwell of the floor.

"R-Rachel...?" She called out wondering if she was there, peering around the room for now, shining the torch at the slightest thing she could see there. "I... i am sorry... i know it's been a while... But... but i d-do...care...c-can we just leave quickly and get s-s-some coffee?" She didn't want to linger on the cusp of shadow any longer, both her hands grabbing the large handle of the bright torch, her one life line here. "Rachel stop messing around...!" She could be gone, she thought, she could not be here and then i can leave and just... No... "Rachel i'm serious this isn't fucking funny!"

Rachel thought she could hear Astrid's voice, what was she doing here? She began to turn around and something writhed in the darkness. Astrid is not here, and she doesnt care about you, no one cares about you. No one would even miss you. Come with me Rachel, come with me and be free. Rachel turned back to the darkness, all around her lights were going out until she was left in a lone globe of light, the one thing that had kept the evil truely at bay. Tears were still falling down her face as she lifted a foot, almost mechanically. This...This wasnt right. The back of her neck started to prickle and burn and she cried out, lowering her foot and stepping back more into the light.

And suddenly she seemed to snap out of it. She heard something shriek in anger and charge but stop just short of the ring of light. "Fucker," shye spat as she pulled a flashlight out of her own bag and turned it on. Rachel heard the thing shriek again and disappear into the darkness. IT was then she heard Astrid's voice again. "Astrid stay away, dont go into the darkness, Astrid its here, its here!" She called out, hoping the other woman would stop. She stood and walked the opposite way of where the thing had disappeared. She knew it was still out there, it was always still out there. Always waiting. "Astrid, stay by the stairs, dont come into the darkness!" she cried out as she was about to disregard her own advice. But the light was already flickering above her, she needed to move.

Astrid didn't hear a response for a while and was about to turn her light off before she heard Rachel. "What? It? Rachel i swear if you're fucking with me... i can't stand the dark just come on and let's go." She wanted to go home, to turn tail and run but a deep rooted need to help her friend was there. "Just come on quick." She said as she edged a bit further up to get a look around, convincing herself there was nothing out there. She just wanted to get a look at where Rachel was.

She fumbled with the light as she stumbled on the step, her toe not catching it and the torch dropped with a heavy thud of metal, but remained on. Astrid however, fell and cracked her chin on the tip of the stair and slid a few down. Crying in pain and shock as she stopped herself from going anywhere further. Bruised, scared and annoyed she looked up the stairs and started to more carefully make her way up. "Come on! You're freaking me out."

It was incredible, infuriatingly so. Astrid still thought she was crazy or playing some sort of sick joke. "This isnt a joke you stupid bitch!" She cried out as the light flickered harder and she saw something move behind her. "Fuck this!" she screamed out as she made a break for it. She kept the flashlight faced in front of her. She didnt want to risk shining it back only for the monster to appear ahead of her. She ran through the stacks, trying to get to the stairs, she heard a shriek that suddenly began to turn into maniacal laughter behind her. She saw the blood red mouth and razor teeth again. The white face and the big red nose. She screamed as the memory of that night hit full force and she was eleven again, running in sheer terror to find the light switch.

Then as she rounded another corner slamming hard into a book shelf and almost loosing her footing she saw light. It was the light of a flahslight beam and below that she could see light filtering up. "Astrid move!" she yelled as she put on an extra burst of speed. But she tripped on a loose piece of carpet and tumbled slamming hard into the wrought iron of the stair railing, there was a sharp pain in her arm and a distinct crack! She screamed in agony as she tried to move, to turn. She made it just as the thing was bearing down on her and she smirked, despite the pain as she hit it with the beam of light from the flashlight. It shrieked and disappeared.

Astrid was getting up again before frowning as she saw Rachel coming around the corner and a flash of white an red, her eyes widening as she grabbed her torch and Rachel to get her as far down stairs as possible. She had heard the crack and knew that she was probably hurting or the arm was broken. She got to the bottom of the stairs and the lobby of the library. Her hand trembling as she clicked the torch of finally before turning around and slapping Rachel across the face as she panted, her pent up anger and fear being let out in that one slap.

"Don't you ever! EVER! Call me a bitch." She almost yelled at her and marched outside to get some air, to calm her panicking self. She got outside and doubled over, clutching her legs as she felt bile beginning to form in the middle of her mouth. The memory of white and red changing morphing to something else, grey skin, sharp nails. "No no..." She couldn't hold it in any longer and emptied her stomach onto the grass as she gasped for breath and saliva slid out of her mouth. "Wrong... so wrong..."

Rachel felt Astrid grab the back of her shirt and pull her down several flights of stairs. Rachel cried out as each cry jostled her arm, and smacked her ass against the marble steps, bruising it. they finally hit the lobby and Rachel curled up cradling her arm, whimpering from the pain when she felt Astrid grab the collar of her shirt and haul her up only to slap her hard across the face and outright command her to never call her a bitch again. If it werent for the extreme pain in her arm and the overwhelming terror she was feeling the slap would have done more to actually arouse Rachel that to put her off. Then Astrid shoved her down and stalked out of the library but only went a short distance.

Rachel for her part fell back, noticing the stares the two of them received from the various students and staff. After only a minute one of the staff memebers came over. "Miss are you all right?"

For her part Rachel wanted to sob, laugh and scream, the range of emotions was so overwhelming but when she spoke it was surpprisingly calm. "No, no I dont think I am. I think I need to go to the hospital. She tried to move her arm and felt the bone grinding together and this time she did scream as she snapped her arm back to her chest, breathing heavily. The library employee ran to a phone to call an ambulance and Rachel sighed, she did not need this. Her parents would fight even more now and Sarah would probably kill her.

Astrid waited till she had figured out that she would stand without having to bend back over to vomit again. She rose herself up and made her way back inside. If there was anything that she wanted to do, she didn't want to leave Rachel now. Not after that thing. She had heard that she was going to the hospital and moved to her side before waiting for the ambulance to arrive. She was pale, pale as a ghost and didn't say anything for a long, long time before clearing her throat. "I'm... sorry..." She whispered as she looked down at the ground, feeling the tears stinging against her eyes.

She waited with her till the ambulance and when it arrived would practically bully herself onto it to get to the hospital with her. She took in a shaky breath as she hoped Rachel would be okay once they get there and that her arm was not broken. Otherwise that could be problematic for a long time..

It came as a surprise to hear Astrid apologize to her, it was not something Rachel had ever expected to hear, not after she had slapped her. Hell she hadnt even been sure that seeing that...that monster would have been enough to snap Astrid out of her denial. But hearing her apologize...it...it didnt have the effect on Rachel that she had once thought. There was no teary reunion about how none of it mattered and they would go back to being instant best friends, true some resentment had come away with the apology but there was still the years of anger and frustration that she had felt.

"Yeah...yeah Im sure you are," there was no spite in her words but there was no real forgiveness either. Rachel would see how long Astrid stuck by her this time. She tried to sit up but every movement caused her agony and she screamed again, her arm felt like it was on fire and she settled back down to wait. It didnt take long and to her former friends credit she waited and then came with her. As they were loaded up into the ambulance Rachel looked down in disgust at her arm which now had a splint on it. "I have no idea how Im going to explain this to my family."

Once more she thought about the fights and arguments her parents were having, about how they both felt they had failed Rachel but for different ways. Her dad was sleeping in one of the guest bedrooms all the time now and her mother looked always on the verge of tears. And then there was Sarah. "Fuck my sister is going to murder me," she mumbled. Then casting a sidelong glance at Astrid and giving a wry smile she said. "And yes before you ask Sarah is just as much of a bitch now as she was when we were kids....no wait I take that back, if you can believe it shes even worse."

Astrid let out a sigh as she went through the process and eventually the splint before she scratched the side of her head. "You tripped and fell down the stairs?" She offered simply as she sat in the chair in the hospital. "I mean...there doesn't have to be a fantastical explanation and it is partially true. You just weren't on the stairs." She stated with a slight smile, definitely feeling the tension between the pair of them. She still wasn't sure what she saw... but whatever it was it was dangerous and something just didn't sit right about it.

"She won't murder you, you've got one good arm." She added before pushing her glasses up when she heard that her sister had gotten worse. "I find that very hard to believe and i will need proof at some point to see this." She said in a rather serious tone before flicking her eyes to the ground. Clearing a throat there was a lot she wanted to say, but the confidence to spit them out was just staying away. Some of them she had no right to say either. Glancing outside she saw that it was twilight, with what little sun there was left and tensed. "S-shall i walk you home?" She asked her, "Or do you have to stay here tonight?"

Rachel couldnt help but grin, just a little, no things were not the same between them and she didnt know if they ever would be, but it was nice to not be screaming at each other in anger, she had forgotten how good that felt, to speak with someone and have it feel at least somewhat amicable. "Well stick around and you'll have the proof yourself." She saw Astrid's eyes flick to the setting sun. "I still need to get x-rayed but Im hoping they send me home after that, cause if they dont they...they'll turn off the lights on me." Her voice became small and childlike again.

And on an impulse almost like they were both children again Rachel reached out and took hold of Astrid's hands. "Please stay with me," there was a sob in her voice and even to her she sounded frightened beynd words. "Please I dont want....I cant...please I need someone I can tr...who knows somethings up here. We...We need to have each other's backs. Please Astrid." It was like her eleven year old selfs voice came through on those last two words as tears began to sting at her eyes.

Astrid gritted her teeth as a small bit of her said, no... She had to be home she had to get back to her house and avoid the night avoid the dark. But she was needed here and hearing her there she was thrown back when she was younger. The two scared. It sent a shiver through her spine and to her core. Closing her eyes she fought back against the urge to just run and took in a deep breath, especially when she was hearing her practically pleading to stay with her. A trickle of white hair fell out of her pony tail as she lowered her head down and closed her hand loosely around Rachel's.

"Fine....but...you owe me... BIG time..." She said in a shaky voice and looked up at her for a moment before reaching into her hand into her backpack and picked her torch out of it, resting it over her lap as if it were a gun. Her free left hand closed around it in a vice like grip. "I'll stay..." She whispered in a slight bit of defeat as the urge to run was still burning strong inside of her.

The urge hit her then. Rachel didnt know from where. The feelings should have been dead, were supposed to be dead and it was hardly the time for hormones to kick in now, but fuck it she had almost died, she was in a hospital bed, with a possible broken arm and she was a getting more than a little loopy from the pain killers. Leaning forward her hand went to the back of Astrid's head and pulled her in, their lips meeting in a frenzied, passionate kiss. It lasted only for a few second but as Rachel pulled away and settled back she gave a crooked grin. "Sorry I wouldnt have been able to forgive myself if I died without doing that at least once." No things werent the same, but...maybe they could get better? She wasnt sure, she didnt even know how Astrid would react.

Astrid closed her eyes for a moment as she held her hand before she felt herself being dragged forward to meet this woman's lips. Frowning she kissed for a second maybe two before moving back and took in a deep breath. Her cheeks were flushed and she was certainly taken a back by that. She couldn't let herself die without doing that? How long had she been wanting to do that? "I'm just going to get some coffee..." She said as she quickly stepped up and headed out of the room to the coffee pot to pour herself a cup of coffee. Trying to keep herself calm as she sipped on the mug taking a moment.

Well, it was always a long shot that she would feel the same way, Rachel thought to herself as she closed her eyes and waited for either Astrid or the doctor to come in. What was taking them so long anyway? Shouldnt she have already had her x-ray, she wanted to go home tonight if possible. Reaching for the button to call the nurse she fumbled with it before it dropped to the ground. The room was starting to spin a little, the pain killers were taking full effect. "Wow, this is good shit," Rachel said as looked up at the ceiling and watched it spin a little. "Astrid!" She called out. "Astrid are you...are you there? Do you see the doctor coming?"
