Justus left her alone for a long time. All the activity had happened first thing in the morning, and it was barely noon when he put her to bed. With the entire day left, Justus went into the city, and inquired about some domestic servants available for employment, now that Flavia was gone. He spoke with two, and almost hired a girl, but decided that as a concession to his wife, he'd let her meet the girl before hiring her. After returning home, doubting that Adonna could sleep from noon all the way through until the next morning, he stalked in and sat at the edge of the bed a couple of hours before bedtime. Her chest was gently moving up and down with her soft breathing, and she was curled up almost in a fetal position, splayed across the bed. "Darling," he whispered, setting his hand softly on her shoulder, still bare as she never bothered putting the toga back up. "How are you? Why don't you wake and eat something before it's too late?"
