A Roman Socialite and Her Tamer (Nurse x Houdini)

Justus laughed when Adonna took offense at his little barb about the play, pinching her hip, as he liked to do so much. Taking Adonna by the hand, they scurried inside just as the big raindrops started to fall all around them. "What a shame," he teased once they were safe inside. "We'll have to spend the rest of the night inside together," he said with mock disappointment. Looking through the open door to their bedroom, and seeing the images of the deities inside, he suddenly had an idea. "Why don't we pray together, Adonna? For my safety while I'm away, and for the safeguarding of our marriage during that time," he suggested. He knew that Adonna liked to beseech the gods, yet she'd always seemed to do it while he was away so far. He held her by the waist and kissed her head as they continued to get settled inside.

Adonna's eyes widened and her mouth dropped open when he suggested they pray together. He could not have said anything better to her. She threw her arms around his neck and and squeezed him hard. "Oh, Justus. I would love that!" she cooed, jumping up a little bit. She pulled away from him and grabbed his hand and ripped him towards the prayer room. Once they got there she dropped to her knees in front of the alter and immediately went into the prostrate praying position.

Justus eagerly followed her into the prayer room, after squeezing her hard, glad she liked the idea. He lit several candles right away to set the appropriate reverent mood. Following her to the altar, he knelt beside her, holding hands with Adonna. He felt this would be an excellent way to connect with her one more time before he had to leave her. He'd positioned himself square in front of his favorite, Mars. As little praying as he did, he was no stranger to a supplication for victory in battle at the hands of the god of war. Picking up a little patch of incense from a jar by the altar, he tossed it devoutly before the god as an offering. "Keep me safe, oh Mars," he whispered. "So that I may return and love my wife again."

Adonna knelt in front of both Strenua and Diane. "Oh, Strenua," Adonna intoned, "Please give me strength while my husband is gone. Please give him strength while he fights for great Caesar." she felt a little lump rise up in her throat as she prayed. She squeezed Justus' hand really tightly as she tried not to cry as she thought of him leaving her. Once they were done praying they held hands on the way out of the room and went to the dining hall together.

Justus smiled as he heard his wife pray for the first time. She really was a good girl at heart, despite her sometimes rough demeanor, and occasional kinkiness in their marital chamber. The experience had drawn him a little closer to her emotionally, and he was glad they'd done it. "You will have the strength, I know it," Justus assured her with a kiss before they sat down for their final meal together before he was to leave. They only had time for a simple, but not rushed meal, before he had to get in his military attire and head off alone for the parade grounds by the ninth hour. Standing at the door, he held both of Adonna's hands as he looked her square in the eye. "Let's not say a tearful goodbye," he urged. "It's not goodbye. We're just parting to do some necessary things on our own, and we'll be back together before we know it," he promised. "But I'll miss you until that moment comes."

She nodded vigorously when she said that they weren't saying goodbye, that they were just parting for a bit and then coming back. SHe was on the verge of tears anyway and nodding her head like that made it easier for her not to cry. She went up on her tiptoes and kissed him gently, but very deeply. She reluctantly pulled away after a few moments and caressed his face gently, "I love you, Justus." she whispered to him, still trying very hard to keep her tears at bay. "I will miss you every second until you come home to me again,"

It moved Justus to see his beloved wife so close to tears. The kiss they shared had more passion, more meaning that any moment between them yet. When they'd parted before, he hadn't felt quite the same about her, and besides, it was known to be an innocuous assignment he was going on. Now, they were that much closer to each other, and this was a real war, with real killing, that he could be getting into. No matter what they said, there was a chance he wouldn't be back. "I love you, too," he whispered, before turning and walking out without another turn back. That would just be too emotional. Mounting his ride, he galloped off for his assignment.

He was quickly briefed on the mission, as one of the generals. He was to take four legions, and quelch some dissenters who'd banded together a distance of four days march to the north. They left that night, marching three hours by torchlight before arranging camp for the evening.

Despite herself, as soon as Justus left Adonna started to cry. She went to their bed and cried herself to sleep, and that pattern followed for the next couple of days. On the third day of Justus being gone Adonna decided she actually had to have a life. She went about the house, ordered the groceries, set the menu for the week and just left it for Flavia rather than discuss it with her. After a week, though, Adonna was getting stir crazy. She went and visited her mother and sister, but she was still going crazy. She lasted another week and then she couldn't take it anymore. She ended up going to an uproarious amphitheater show, but was good enough not to drink anything while she was there. She fought off any advances that came on her and was only bad once the rest of the time that Justus was gone: she went to a small party. Other than that, she prayed, prayed, and prayed some more.

Justus barely had time to think about Adonna, yet he found himself doing so constantly. The march went uneventfully, and an emissary tried to negotiate a truce with the leader of the dissenters, representing a province who wanted to be sovereign from the Empire. This having failed, they battled for five days, warring by day, and retreating to their camps and bonfires by night. The rebels stood little chance against the best Rome had to offer, and suffered heavy casualties. Justus lost a few among his legions, but remained mostly unscathed himself, save for being grazed by a arrow on his shoulder. It was a close call, and left a nasty wound, but didn't hurt all that much. He quietly thanked Mars that night for the arrow only having hit where it did, something he wouldn't have done before knowing Adonna.

But the final day of fighting, things changed for him forever. There was a centurion named Marcus who he'd grown up with, enlisted with, and remained close with all those years. And just when the battle was safely in hand, Marcus was speared through by a desperate enemy soldier, suicidally charging at Justus' men in a sorry attempt to take some Romans down with him. Justus had to watch in horror as life slipped from his friend's limp body. So, although victorious, it was in a somber mood that Justus rode back among his men. And, eighteen days after he'd gone, he was back at home, glad to be back, yet a somber and changed man in many ways. There was none of the eager playfulness there like last time as he dismounted and approached his house.

Adonna heard the cheers as the legion came back in to the city. She raced outside on the glorious day and waited for Justus to arrive home. When he finally got there he seemed somber, but she figured that was just because of all the fighting he'd been doing. When he got off of his horse she ran to him and threw her arms around his neck, squeezing him almost unbearably tight. "Oh, Justus," she murmured as she kissed her neck, "I missed you so so so so so much!" her heart was absolutely soaring now that he was home. And they'd just won a major battle against dissenters, she was sure he would be home with her for awhile.

Justus grimaced, feeling dirty and tired, yet he smiled almost by reflex at her touch. "Adonna," he mumbled, embracing her in return. "I missed you, too," he said softly, kissing her on the top of the head. "I'm glad to be home," he admitted, laying his sandals next to the door. "I need to bathe first and remove the stench of war," he said without much emotion. "Maybe we can spend some time together after that," he offered. He was glad to see her, but things seemed different in a way. He just wasn't able to feel cheery now.

"Okay, honey. I understand," she said gently as she released him from her grasp. She walked along towards their house with him, wanting desperately to hold his hand, but he had his helmet in one hand and his pack in the other. He didn't seem interested in holding her hand either. That stung her just a tiny bit, but she knew that he had probably had a hard time. "Do you want me to come with you again? Like last time?" she suggested with a smile, "Or....do you want to go by yourself?"

"I... I'll go by myself this time," he decided, laying his helmet and pack down on a table. He drew some water in the bath, not bothering to warm it. Climbing into the cold water, he did his best to wash away the grime of the days of travel and despair. After he'd bathed, he felt better. Not good, but better. His mind was removed a little from the tragic realities he'd witnessed, and he wanted to see Adonna again. Now, though, it was less out of affection for her, and more out of a desire to quench certain needs of his. He donned a clean, soft tunic, and headed out to the bedroom in search of his wife, passing Flavia along the way and engaging her in a brief greeting. "Adonna," he said quietly, catching sight of his wife as he entered their bedroom. "How are you?"

Adonna had been lounging on their bed reading a scroll from her brother's wife. She put the scroll down as soon as she heard the door open. She was wearing a light pink day gown and her hair was down around her shoulders. She sat up and extended her hand to Justus with a huge smile on her face, "Hi Justus," she cooed gently, seeing that he was still affected by being away. "I'm good. I missed you terribly. How...how are you? You seem tense."

Justus approached the bed slowly, adjusting to the sight of Adonna. He'd almost forgotten what she looked like the last few days, and now, he was reminded of her exquisite beauty. "Yes... I missed you, too, love," he said deliberately. "It was a difficult battle, we suffered some casualties," he explained, sparing her the exact details of what happened. Taking her hand, he sat down on the soft bed next to her. "What did you do while I was away," he wondered.

As soon as Justus was on the bed with her she snuggled right up against him. She laid her head on his chest and slung her arm across his chest, squeezing him tightly with the other. She kissed his chest gingerly and stroked his opposite arm lightly, "I'm sorry you had to go through that, baby. You're a great general," she murmured before answering him, "I went to see my mother a couple of times...went out a few times..." she said without elaborating, "But my life was fairly pointless with you by my side,"

Justus nodded at her, pleased a little bit to be reminded that he was such an integral part of her life. "I.. this doesn't bother me. I'm a seasoned general," he asserted, somewhat in denial about the whole thing. "I've seen plenty." He began stroking her neck and shoulders, wincing just a bit as she touched his wound. "I've been waiting for this night," he reflected, with a little smile. Leaning over, he gave her a long kiss on the lips, placing a hand gently on her stomach.

She felt relief course through her when he leaned over and gave her a long kiss. She had been waiting for that and was beginning to worry that he wasn't going to kiss her the way he had before. She moaned softly when he placed his hand on her stomach. She pulled away from his kiss just for a moment, "I have too, Justus...I have too," and then she immediately went back to kissing him. She rolled a little bit so that she could rub his leg with her foot.

Justus kissed her for a while and let their legs entangle with each other in the sheets for a time. He craved the pleasure that she'd given him so many times, yet something within him feared the intimacy he'd come to know with her. He felt like he needed something more... expedient. Lifting up his tunic, he grinned at her as he displayed his manhood, only partially aroused. He began to run his hands across her body over the pink gown, and pulled away from her kiss. "Can you think of anything nice to do with this tonight?" he asked suggestively, glancing down at his manhood.

Adonna grinned when he lifted up his tunic and she saw his partially aroused manhood. "Of course I can," she cooed to him, letting her hand run down his body to stroke his manhood into becoming more erect. "If you're tired...I could ride it," she giggled a little at the prospect of that, "Orrr...if you'd like, you could ride me...orrr, I could just lie on my back...." she bit her lip a little in anticipation, she had been hoping he would want to sleep with her, as she certainly wanted to sleep with him.

Justus grinned and chuckled with her at her generous suggestions. His member was getting harder as she stroked it gently, and he was ready for something, that much was certain. "I was thinking of something else," he suggested. "Maybe just this once... you could please me," he explained, rubbing her upper arm a little before touching her head and pressing it down just a little bit, at the same time as he slid his body up along the bed and moved his waist up closer to Adonna's pretty face. He wasn't sure if she'd get the gist of it yet, but he was doing his best to avoid stating it plainly.

The joy in Adonna's face immediately dropped away when he tried to push her head down and slid his body up. She pulled her head away from him and drew her hand stroking him away as well as the one squeezing his other hand away from him. She furrowed her brows at him in disbelief, "What?" she asked sort of dumbly. Justus knew that she found that repulsive. Why would he ask her to do it?

Justus didn't pay too much attention to Adonna's expression. He was far too attuned to his own needed at the moment. It did get his attention, however, when she stopped stroking him. "Don't you want to welcome me home properly?" he said gently, a frown coming across his features as he grasped her wrist. "After service to Caesar and the gods, don't you want to reward me?" He wasn't sure if he'd get want he wanted with guilt, but it was worth an initial attempt.

She pulled at her wrist, trying to get him to release it. She didn't like the way this was going. He was trying to guilt her into something that she thought was disgusting when she was offering him something she thought was far better. "Of course I want to welcome you home properly! But I want to make love with you, Justus. I want to let you feel my passion. I don't want to...to... do that[/i[!"

Justus loathed whining and excuse-making. So he wasn't going to make any. The truth was that he didn't feel comfortable making all out love with her tonight. He just wanted a release. And he'd long wanted Adonna to please him orally. The knowledge that she didn't like it only made him want it more. But he'd held off before, on account of the warm, fuzzy feeling that she seemed to always create in him. Because he loved her. But now, he wanted what he wanted. Instead of expressing his feelings, he felt more comfortable simply trying to force his way with her. "We will make love," he said firmly. "But tonight I need this. Many of the other army wives do it," he insisted. "Many even prefer it to making love." He held her wrist tightly, using it to try and pull her into him again. Rolling over on top of her, he began moving his hips in towards her face, pushing his rising manhood quite close to where he wanted it as she tried to move away.
