At last, weeks of planning would come to fruition. The rooms were prepared, the orders were given and now he waited for his men to arrive with the very special guests of the night. The two people who had done him so much harm. Oh, tonight he would make them pay dearly for all of it. He would make sure of that.

They had been out the whole day. It was their celebration, after all. One year since they were together, two years since they knew each other. They'd never thought that it would last this long, though one thing was certain, they loved each other. Of course, their relationship, much like any other, had its ups and downs. It wasn't perfect by any stretch of imagination but the things they were ready to do to make it work were definitely impressive. Whenever they had an argument, they both took care so that it won't escalate. When they had something to say to each other, they did. Each of them had a voice and each of them was most definitely giving their best. It wasn't the perfect relationship but what mattered was that both of them were ready to try and make it better. And that both of them cared for each other, even when they tried to mask it, even when an argument led to them not talking for an usually short period of time. They still cared. For all of that, they had celebrated this whole day.

It was already 10 PM now as they exited the theater. They went to a movie and now they planned to spend the rest of their night in the amusement park that was found on the other end of town. Its lights were glimmering in the distance, calling to them. "Let's just walk there." Christopher told his beloved as he took her hand in his. It was a fairly safe place to be in, the crime rate of the small city was much below the average of others so walking seemed like a fairly good idea. And plus, the man was fairly tall and well-built, he didn't fear standing up if something were to happen. He held his lover's hand as they started walking, crossing the street and heading through the park in the vicinity, aiming to take through a small street that cut the way short towards the amusement park. They were happy and carefree, oblivious to the shadows that played around them and to the eyes that watched, preparing to step forward.

The first signs of it appeared as the two of them were closing in to the edge of the park. Christopher could see a figure that seemed to be walking ahead of them. Sure they couldn't be the only ones out at that hour, could they? Though the figure looked more suspicious as they drew close to it, walking as if it waited for them to catch up. Christopher was ever so slightly alerted by this and clutched his fiancée's hand, trying to lead her so they could pass by the figure. He remained quiet, analyzing the surroundings and trying to see what would be the quickest route of escape if something were to happen. The shadowy figure turned around all of a sudden, blocking their immediate path and making Christopher attempt to avoid a direct contact. His heart skipped a beat or three as he could clearly see the glimmer of a knife.

"Oh, shit." He muttered, trying to steer his partner away before realizing that the two of them were being surrounded. Five men were already closing in from all sides and from what Christopher could see, each of them carried something. They were all masked and hooded thus making it impossible to distinguish any features. The man's first instinct was to shield his lover away, though that was damn near impossible when no matter which side he stood on, she was still within reach of either of the brutes. What was more unnerving was their silence. They didn't speak, they only approached, leaving less and less space for the couple to escape through. Chris could only make a quick effort to fend off the first figure that approached more, pushing him away before getting struck from behind. Those last moments were chaotic as the man tried, though in vain, to fight off the figures that approached. Christopher grabbed his beloved's hand and made another effort, shoving one of the hooded figures into another and darting off with the woman in tow.

Then, all of a sudden, he could feel something strike in the back of his head and before he knew what it was, the world turned to darkness.
