The bell for sixth period rang out. In a rush, Mark shuffled to his seat, hurrying to pull out his textbook and notes. It wasn't like him to be late for class, even by a few seconds. Mark was generally always seated and ready for class, even this one - Calculus - which he dreaded and relied on help from his sister Gale to pass. He turned to her, smiling wide. "I have something to tell you after class..."

Mark was every parent's dream teenager. While his grades weren't perfect, he worked hard to succeed in school and seemed to spend most of his free time with the swim team or volunteering at a handful of local charities. His social circle was rather small as well. Truth be told, he spent most of his free time with his sister or a couple of friends that he'd had since elementary school and despite being tall, handsome and athletic, had a reputation for being quiet and unsocial which led to most of his peers feeling like he was a difficult person to get to know.

Unlike many kids who were close in age, Mark and Gale had been especially close for most of their lives. Frequent playmates later became co-conspirators and confidants as they matured. There was very little that the two of them didn't share freely and in many cases candidly. It hadn't really occurred to him though quite the shock it was going to be to his own sister, after never particularly expressing much interest in specific girls at school, when he announced as he packed up his books and was getting ready to go to his last class "I asked Amanda Lee to homecoming, and she said yes!"

The young girl sighed, pencil in hand as math really wasn't something that was strong for her in school even still finding it weird she was even smart enough to be in a class like that, though it was maybe more of her childish side that thought about different schemes that helped even try to know how to do something like this. Finally the class had ended as the silver long haired girl but shorter than her brother Mark stood up with her small yet beautiful 5"5 figure of course seeming that she was one of those girls that any guy would seem to really have a crush on with her being a timebom most of the time depending on her mood and a hard girl to impress to get her to like someone like that.

Soon gale turned as she walked with her brother for a moment before stopping with crossed arms to hear what stupid thing he wanted to tell her now. Before she froze as she now felt like the insides of her head would explored with a bit of rage as like anyone else, gale had the secret fact that she even had a crush on Mark himself but letting him find it out himself.

" I have something to do, so go or wait for me...." stomping off a bit as she wanted to run away from the fact, " stupid Amanda, the hell did she even draw that idiots attention to her, I wouldn't date anyone who's stupid name was Amanda either....bet she's actually stuck up and stupid....hiding it with acting so damn nice....like I would damm trust that..." sticking her tongue out as she eventually left him alone wanting to run away for a bit from that as she would decide then to even break them up before then if she could.

Mark was surprised to say the least that his sister rushed off suddenly. Maybe she'd eaten something at lunch that didn't agree with her? He'd left his phone in his locker, and instantly regretted it. Those kinds of things got confiscated left and right, but he really wanted to text Amanda and see if she wanted to hang out this weekend. He had never had a girlfriend before - and still didn't he realized. She had only really agreed to the dance. They'd barely talked in class prior to his asking, so it wasn't as if they were an item now. Still, it was the closest he'd ever been thanks to his rather isolated social life, and he was excited for the possibility.

The last class of the day was gym, and he'd heard their gym teacher was out sick for the day so it was likely to be even easier than usual. They might combine with the girl's class for dodgeball or something similarly easy. Mark went through the motions getting changed for class, but his head was completely in the clouds, between wanting to talk to Amanda more, and being eager to talk to Gale ABOUT Amanda, he hoped class would go quickly.

Stretching as she walked off to class, she didn’t reall think about anything, though of course holding on and saving her sudden annoyance at him until after they would go home. It wasn’t hard to know how stupidly and annoyingly excited he was for something like, though she would want to do something like that too but of course having anyone finding out than actually telling anyone at all about it. For now she would mostly do everything to push him away from her until she could really get a plan to mess things up but already wondering even how to do it.

As class ended with another sigh and a stretch after every class she did, the girl went for her locker, even hoping that he would decide to leave her so she could be alone and think a bit.

Mark and Gale had the same last name. Naturally, that meant that the school had assigned them lockers next to each other. Gale's hope had come to naught as Mark bounded toward her, full of excited energy. "Hey sis!" he said in a passing greeting as he went to his own locker, retrieving his phone and entering a number that had been scrawled on it in feminine handwriting. He didn't even notice Gale's annoyance as she walked away from him, simply following her and hammering out a text message.

"What do you want to do when we get home?" he asked as he left the building, heading toward his car and assuming she would come with him as she usually did.

She looked over to see him of course, following behind as mostly did her own thing being casually quiet, as she would just be in her room then trying to even think of something to do about this now but also just laying down and not really doing anything else like usual. “ you don’t even know the first damn thing about love or crushes you idiot...” talking as gale laid on her bed with her hand up to the ceiling in front of her still trying to think. “ you’ll never understand my real feelings even if I would tell you...” now feeling s bit worried that she would be stuck even hearing and seeing him give more attention to the other girl than her.

Usually Mark spent his afternoons doing homework and talking to Gale in one of their rooms. Today, Amanda had called him shortly after he returned home. He sat in his room, talking excitedly, with the door closed. Their walls weren't thick enough for Gale to completely avoid the sound of his voice as Mark and Amanda chatted, getting to know each other over the course of the next hour. Mark also had no idea how much this was hurting Gale to hear, nor did he realize how further he was salting the wound when after their mother arrived home and had dinner prepared, he spent most of the meal regaling their parents about the girl he was going to homecoming with, and how they were going to see a movie Saturday afternoon and he might go dress shopping with her afterward, since he was expected to wear a matching color.

After dinner, he returned to his room and finally cracked the books to finish his homework that had been put off so long. The rest of the evening went by rather quickly even though he had to resist the urge to text Amanda further.

As expected of course it actually started to get more annoying as she thought it would especially being right in front of him and see he had no reason to hide his plans from her. He would spend mostly the whole day leaving her behind to hang out with a girl for one stupid event that wouldn’t even last so long. But with teenage life an event like this was a one time thing that she had heard people talking about in public from their old days when they were younger. Gale would rather eat quickly, leaving her plate and quickly running off and back to her room to get away from him and his stupid feelings again with the fact that he wouldn’t care about leaving her for a whole day to spend time with the girl. “ you’ll have to work damn hard to even think it’s gonna go fine with that stupid girl...” already deciding to do something to mess things up a bit if it worked.

Friday and part of Saturday flew by. He finally got to see his movie with Amanda, and take her shopping. Amanda tried on several dresses, he tried to give her very honest feedback and thoughts on all of them but Amanda seemed to take his honest feedback a little strangely. Walking home from Amanda's house, he felt worried. It was about then that he realized he hadn't spoken to Gale more than an occasional sentence or two for days. If anyone could help him make sense of the whole mess, his sister could.

He walked into Gale's room without knocking. "I think I messed up with Amanda today." he said, sitting down on her bed. "When I dropped her off, she leaned in like she wanted to kiss me, but I got kind of scared and ran off. I've never kissed a girl. I mean, I've kissed you, but never REALLY kissed a girl, you know?"

As always the girl was on her bed laying down boredly with her phone before seeing the door open suddenly with a blush as it looked like she forgot to lock it and that she was just wearing a shirt and in her panties since she didn't really wear anything when she was just like this, but she had the blanket so he couldn't see anything.

With an angry blush she slowly wrapped herself up in the blanket and slowly walked over giving him a slap. Before standing there and trying to think over what he said. " of course you should know one reason for that, and for the other reason is your damm scared and that's more annoying than anything..." even feeling a bit bad for the girl that she was just left like that to someone stupid like that.

" you really need to damn learn how to act around a girl before you even think about going for a crush..." telling him an actual hard truth that she would have probably told him if gale herself didn't right now. " first you leave me with really nothing to do and you expect the date to be good before blowing it the last second?" Though thinking about it she had the chance of being his first kiss though and not her but still, he needed to learn. " so what do you even want me to do about it then..." asking as she walks over to sit down.

The slap stung. Moreover, it woke him up suddenly. He and his sister were more alike than he gave them credit for. While he was usually the more relaxed and carefree of the two, he wasn't above his own fits of anger and the sudden shock of being attacked by his own sister sparked it.

"Ow! What the hell Gale?! And how am I supposed to know how to learn that stuff without doing it? I figured if anyone was going to be sympathetic and give me good advice about girls it would be you. But I guess You're the wrong person to ask about kissing anyway, you've been on less dates than I have at this point." That last remark came out with a sneer and a cruel glance.

He stood from the bed and moved to the door, flinging it open.

Gale looked up at him, seeing that she actually did go a bit far. It could have been just really the fact that he left her and she had nothing. She really hated the fact to see as well how scared he was like that and it didn't make sense since he knew what to do and he chose not to actually do it. " I went a bit too far with that, but that's not really an excuse with why you ran away from that. Unless she was being a jerk or something there was no reason to do that..." deciding to text him that as he sit didn't know the hard truth about dating. If he really likes her like that it didn't make sense at all why he wasn't happy to take that moment and do it. " I have a crush too and I can actually feel that struggle....its harder for me to get them to even notice me all the time or talk to me...you have it easier..." feeling a bit crushed as she had to face that reality herself.

Gale sighed deciding for a bit to let him be himself a bit before looking for him and leaning over to kiss his cheek before turning to leave. " maybe I attacked you like this because I feel empty, sorry then..." starting softly as turned to walk out still having the blanket around her. She couldn't stand him be a guy who didn't know what he was doing with a girl, but of course not help these weird feelings for him even.

He looked up from the kiss on her cheek, smiling. "Sorry I shouted earlier. You don't have to leave. We can talk more if you want." He sat up from his desk, turning to face her.

"I wasn't scared of her, I was scared of me. I work so hard to be good at everything, but I can't control how good I am at kissing. What if I'm bad at it?" he looked laughed at himself. "I'm sure she thought I was an idiot though. I haven't spoken to her since, not even a text. Hopefully she's not thinking about cancelling on me..."

His face blushed a deep crimson. "I have an idea. Can I kiss you, for real? And you can tell me if it's good or not? Then I'll do the same for you and maybe you'll be more confident when you finally get to do it with your crush too! Our secret like always?

Suddenly she stops, almost to her room as she suddenly stops with an even deeper embarrassed blush on her face as she suddenly feels an overwhelming warmth from her cheeks. " I bet I'm bad at it anyway..." crossing her arms as she just stood there with her back to him, " I would even be more worried that its crazy to do it than anything...though...not yet..." as she quickly went back to her room then. She wanted it to be more personal like that than just practice, so it was better for her not to even do it for now or even try to see what it was like even to have the fire before really going in for it.

Gale didnt really want a stupid thing like this until it as better that it would happen naturally but still she had to see the risk that they would take his. Still, for now she would be herself and wait for it.

He was disappointed that his own sister had turned down the idea, though he supposed it made sense. There were some lines family just shouldn't cross. He still loved his sister and didn't hold it against her.

Things progressed slowly from there. Eventually he talked to Amanda, being very honest with his reasoning for running off. She told him he was funny and not to worry about not being any good about it. Even so, she seemed overly reticent to go out on more dates, he felt as though he nearly needed to beg for her attention and finally went over to help her study Wednesday of the next week.

He poked his head into Gales room on his return home, only briefly "She said I wasn't terrible for my first time." The grin on his face was ear to ear and make him look ridiculous.

The girl rolled her eyes, She could easily tell that the other girl was thinking exactly like her that after running away like that she would have doubted to go on more dates with him or even leave him without a kiss but she could really care less at all right now that he finally did. It seemed that him being dumb with something like that first move running was actually helping her than anything that if she felt it was forced by him to get her to like him then her plan was working well.

The girl mostly ignored him as there was no way she couldn't already tell he would tell her something stupid like that. But now guessing that she would try it now against him and see what he would think if she would even try to get her own date.

"You're Mark's sister, right?" The boy was tall, rail thin and with a shock of golden blonde hair set off from his ice blue eyes. He had found Gale alone, sitting and reading and invited himself over, sitting down next to her without a word of acknowledgement on her part.

"I'm Will. I swim with your brother. You look lonely, where's Mark?" She and Mark had been practically inseparable until last week, now she had shut herself off from him frequently.

"Don't tell Mark I came over here and flirted with you, okay?" he asked with a broad smile and a hint of a blush across his cheeks.

" don't really know, probably with that stupid girl..." remembering with a small frustrated sigh as she suddenly jumped from her seat with a sudden confused and sudden blush herself, " w-what's that's supposed to mean..." protesting for the moment but not really trying to attack for it as of course she was nothing but completely off guard by it so suddenly. " I-I doubt he would even care anyway..."

He chuckled, picking up the book she'd dropped as she jumped up and taking a pen out of his pocket, opening the cover of the book and scrawling a number in it.

"Well good. If he's not going to mind, you can text me later and I'll take you out for dinner Friday night." He handed the book back with a bright smile and walked off without giving her a second look.

She just stood there a bit frozen and confused as she slowly took the book from him just standing there a bit confused. " jeez what's with him..." not helping to smirk a bit liking the fact that he didn't run away as easily as her brother did, betting that even if she acted a bit aggressive like she usually was he still kept that cool aura about him which even she couldn't admit that she likes that in a guy. With that gale turned walking away herself as her hair swayed behind her with her quick movement as now it even seemed that Mark had someone to go against but not that it really mattered much since he had someone.

Mark was his usual gregarious and cheerful self over dinner again as he regaled his parents and sister over the fun after school date he'd had with Amanda and the restaurant they'd decided to go to. He fretted a bit over whether he could afford both the dinner and the limo, wishing he knew another couple that was going. A text message pinged, causing him to clear his plate and head upstairs to his room where he and Amanda could speak unobserved.

She rolled her eyes again, deciding to put it to the test and use the boy that was straightforward in his crush for her to really see how much better and strangely his friend would be around a more aggressive girl than the other. But of course gale couldn’t lie it would have been awkward for her since she never really dated but still no one knew and so she would do it. Soon she finished herself as the girl went for her own room now.

Will pulled up to the house exactly two minutes early and knocked loudly on the door. Of all people, Mark answered. "Hey Will, what's up man?" Mark was surprised to see his teammate appearing out of nowhere early on a Friday night.

Will grinned and shrugged. "I'm here to take Gale to dinner man, she told me you probably wouldn't care that we're dating now. Surprised she didn't tell you anything..." Will saw Gale descending the stairs behind Mark. "Hey there, you ready to go?" he called over Mark's shoulder.

She walked down with black shorts with a grey tank top with a black logo in the middle as she moved her hand behind her hair as her hair fell to the side before stretching her arms up and finally walking over to the garage to put on her black boots and step out in front of the two again with crossed arms. “ well I mean I still think it’s dumb it was sudden though but I’m not someone to not take that offer...” not caring about the dating part either though she wouldn’t treat Will bad at all but he should be ready for whenever she had her aggressive moments. With that she walked past the two as gales silver hair flowed in front of their faces as she waited outside now.

It was far from the nicest restaurant in town, but classy enough that her shorts and tank top ensemble looked woefully underdressed. Will shrugged it off with casual nonchalance. He seemed somewhat self-absorbed, taking the opportunity of every lull in the conversation to talk about himself. Finally after the entree course was cleared, he grinned up at her. "Well, homecoming is next weekend. I know you don't have a date yet. Are you going to go wtih me?"
