A soft yawn escaped the young woman as she slowly made her way through the town streets. Despite her stunning beauty, she had a presence that made people avoid her. Everywhere around her, the hustle and bustle of the townspeople was evident. Despite this bit of tension, she was actually very well-known and quite admired in the area. This town was a shirt walk away from her village, which consisted mainly of samurai. This group's particular task was to maintain the peace in the area. Luckily, they rarely had to confront anyone in such a manner. The only time they would was when a rival town would invade, looking to cause problems. Of course, they didn't do much to the people, and they were here just to get a drink or two before continuing.

Minami glanced around as she walked, going about with her usual patrolling. The entire time, she had a rather serious look on her face, though many saw her as scary. In all honesty, she was just focused a lot on her job. either that, or she just didn't have enough drinks. She found the small bar which she would occasionally stop by and moved inside, the room quieting down as she walked in. The benefits of being a guardian: free sake. She moved to the front, waiting for the bartender to get her drink. She was 19 years old with long brown hair tied back in a ponytail. She had beautiful emerald green eyes, though they showed great seriousness and determination. She was wearing a large white robe, cut off at her ankles to avoid it dragging. On the back was a design resembling an extravagant sunrise. She had a large sheathe holding her long katana leaning up against her seat. This had been the same blade that had been passed down to her from many generations. She was making sure that she would disappoint her family's name.

Very soon, her glass had come by. The bartender set the drink in front of her and she took it in her hand, bringing it to her lips. Of course, she wasn't looking to get drunk while on duty. It would perhaps get her in a ton of trouble. Of course, she wasn't even at a legal age to drink, but she looked old enough, and that was good enough for them. After her glass she headed out towards the outskirts of the town, finding a small rock to sit on. She let out another bored sigh as she rested. She usually longed for battle, though her patrolling job didn't have anything exciting about it. Sure, she was asked to take care of criminals, which were usually little kids taking bread or something.

(19 and a Samurai? she's legal, she's been through her Gempukku [i think that's how it's spelled])

It was a silent man that strolled into the village, holding a strong air around him. His kimono was of a darkish green, the golden symbol or the dragon clan on his back, and on his shoulders was the Mirumoto Mon, though it was obscured by the leather armor he was wearing. His shoulder length hair was pulled back, tied at the nape of his neck. The people around him looked but didn't get near, even knowing what clan he was from. His steps took him straight to the nearby inn, needing some food as he went onward through his journey. He walked in and was instantly approached by the owner. "Welcome, Samurai-sama. Have you had any rice today?"

Mirumoto Terao simply shook his head. "Rice and water." His footsteps were slow as he walked to a nearby empty table, and his food came rather fast. He took his time eating, keeping his head down. His blue eyes kept focused on his food, not needing any unwanted attention being so far away from the Dragon Lands. They were rather benevolent, but reclusive, the monks very rarely straying out of their monasteries, the warriors the only ones leaving their halls and mountains to the rest of the lands.

It wasn't long until he finished his food, and without a word he got up and left. He continued his slow walk down the road, his intention unknown to everyone around him.

(and all Samurai get free food, courtesy of their masters)

(I see...not exactly knowledgeable on their history or anything. -_- Just going by legal age here.)

Minami was clearly not getting anything done on the outskirts. Why was it required for her to hang around here again? Well, she really couldn't question her master's orders, otherwise she'd be in for a good scolding, or perhaps much worst. She felt like getting another drink, but she knew her limits. Too much and she'd be a crazy drunk. There had been far too many incidents that she had narrowly avoided being caught by her master during her patrolling. Come to think of it, that drink wasn't very filling. She could hear her stomach growl softly, though she tried to ignore it for now. She finally figured she was done in this area, standing up to stretch a bit. A small wagon had begun to pass by, but she concluded it was just carrying some food or something to be sold.

She moved back into the town, deciding to focus more on any requests that the people had to offer. She stopped to wait in a small marketplace area, just watching for anybody that tried to take something. Of course, she didn't take as drastic measures to deal with them. She closed her eyes for a while, taking some time to think of her next course of action. One eye had opened as she noticed a small group of children had gathered around her, most clearly trying not to tick her off. "Hey scary lady! You tired?" Even hearing that from a child could hurt. "Am I really that scary-looking?" she thought. "I'm still on duty. Go on." she said, trying to get them to leave her alone for now. For her age, her voice sounded quite mature, almost like a young man.

She grumbled softly as she felt something tug at her sword. She growled softly as she noticed one of them pulling at it. "Hey! this isn't a toy! What do you want?" she snapped, wondering why these kids were so persistent with her. There was a bit of awkward silence before one spoke up. "Play with us!" said the young boy in front of her. "H-huh?" she muttered. She scratched the back of her head lightly at their question. Was it alright when she should be working? "What are you playing anyway?" she said, figuring it wouldn't be that bad.

(Most of my knowledge of it is from my L4D game stuff, so it might not be the exact way it is there. And you're being rather nice. Those kids would have been at least smacked for being out of line.)

Terao was completely fine, having not taken any liquor. He was slowly moving down the street, his hands within a moments reach of his daisho as he walked. He never let himself get relaxed in the open. There was too much chance of being attacked, he learned that at a rather early age, even if he was only 19 himself. Having to watch his family killed in front of him was a terrible burden.

His mind was pulled out of his reverie when a carriage stopped in the middle of the road, and out from the back came out a few hunters, holding bows, one of them wielding kamas. Terao moved slowly, so he was out of their eyesight by the carriage walls. He unsheathed his family katana ans wakizashi and slowly sidestepped around, waiting for one to get close. His movements were a blur when one did, being cut down fast. The screams from their attacks only got louder as he came out to cut one down. There was three others, and he moved fast to cut them down before they could draw their bows.

(Left 4 Dead? And would you prefer if I was meaner? ^^)

Before she could even consider playing with those kids, she turned her head slightly, hearing a scream ring in the air, like somebody was getting killed. Hopefully it wasn't one of the townspeople. "Get out of here." she muttered towards the kids, now pulling out her katana from it's sheathe. They were clearly confused. "Huh? What do you-?" "Just get out of here!" she growled, clearly not joking around now. that was enough to send them scurrying.

She moved past many people as they were also quite confused, wondering what was going on. She moved quickly through the streets, stopping as she saw an arrow dig into the ground in front of her. She looked to see the archer still holding the bow, ready to grab another arrow. She found the wagon from before, hopping off it and getting on the roof. She quickly got to him before he could blink, cutting him down in an instant. She shook her blade gently to get the blood off. She noticed another cry come out, though it seemed to come from the rooftops. "Is there someone else?" she thought, heading off from rooftop to rooftop, looking for more of them.

(*epic self-facepalm* sorry, I'm too use to putting that. I meant L5R. Legend of the Five Rings. And you can be, but only to the eta.)

Terao had just cut down the one holding the kamas when there was a bow that missed him by inches, coming from the rooftops. He turned his head and quickly jumped up, scaling the building using the different elevations from little outdoor shops. He chased the archer down, cutting him down in a single slash. He wiped the blades off on the mans clothing, but he heard a sound from behind.

He stood slowly, his back to her, before turning to face her. "Ah, you." He said in a rather low voice. "I remember you... It's about time I deal with you." He shifted down slightly, holding his blades in a defensive stance.

(XD I was wondering what zombies had to do with all this. And I almost forgot what eta meant.)

Minami had also managed to find another archer, coming at him quick. He fired an arrow, narrowly missing her as it went through the sleeve of her robe. She growled softly as she came at him in no time, easily taking him out as well, though right in front of her, another archer was ready to get her, but to her surprise someone had killed him. Her eyes widened slightly with surprise at who stood there, but she knew there was no time to lose her focus.

Minami gripped her blade tightly in her left hand, holding it in a defensive stance as well. "What are you doing here? I'm sure you're not here to harm anyone, but your presence alone calls for me to get rid of you." she said. She decided to make the first move, still holding her blade in a defensive manner, ready to block if needed. She went in at his legs, then going for his torso.

His armor would have easily taken the blow from her katana, having had extra leather plates for the front of his legs, not caring of the slight loss of speed from them. Either way, Terao bent down by the knees, his blades coming down in a x pattern to nearly grab her blades. "I have learned a lot since our last battle." He taunted, before flipping, pressing off from her blade and landing about five feet from her. The sudden press of his full weight on her blade would probably set her off balance if she didn't compensate quickly.

Terao turned back to her and held himself defensively again, though his foot came out for a quick kick first. "I'm not going to lose to the likes of you."

She grumbled softly as she blocked off her attack, using his blades to easily catch hers. The sudden weight on her katana did surprise her a bit, but she quickly caught her footing, keeping herself upright. She remembered their last encounter very well. In fact, they seemed to be evenly matched, not able to get the upper hand on each other. She was ready this time though. She had been practicing a lot more and she wasn't going to allow herself to lose to him.

"Tch. I can say the same to you." she said, watching as he came at her with a kick. She moved back quickly before lunging at him again, figuring she'd be more cautious with her advances. She brought her blade forward again, sending a quick slash at his chest, bringing her blade back as she expected a counter attack.

She was continuing her assault on him, but he made a point to only block or deflect every attack she made. His mind was focusing on what she was doing, every movement and strike. Looking for weaknesses, every little notion that could spell victory for him. A single drop of sweat could show nervousness, which he could wield against her. He kept on the move, however, making her work for her prize.

It wasn't long until he struck, though, a heavy diagonal slash with his katana, keeping his wakizashi ready for defense. "You cannot defeat me!"

As she continued her assault on him, he was able to block off all her attacks thus far. He was certainly quick and it seemed as though this would be very similar to their last battle. with each strike she was looking for a small opening where she could get at him. A small difference in her attack had left a chance for him to attack though. She quickly brought her katana up to block off his attack, managing to hold up to his strength. "Tch. I'll be sure to make you eat those words." she said, pushing off and creating a bit of distance. She knew that he perhaps outweighed her in strength, so she'd have to outsmart him as best she could.

He frowned slightly when she pushed his blade off, and backed off himself. "We will see about that." He slowly started strafing around him, looking for another opening. What he was taught in his school. But this battle was starting to bore him, knowing that she wouldn't be able to block a continuous assault for very long. But that left him open to her attacks, as well. So many choices for him to make...

She took some time to observe him again, looking for any sign of fatigue. If he was, he did a good job of hiding it. She reached into the pocket of her robe, finding a small blade meant for tossing. She grumbled softly as she went at him again, taking the blade and tossing it towards his neck. She would follow up with another quick shot at his torso, hoping the blade would distract him somehow.

He was watching as her hand moved into her robes. He was glad that he followed the duel-wielding ways of the Mirumoto, or he would have been in danger of losing his neck. His wakizashi came up, deflecting the thrown blade as his katana came down to block hers. "Foul! Using anything but your long blades!" He pushed off before launching forward, doing a heavy downward strike with both of his blades.

"Tch. There is nothing foul about it. It is a matter of outsmarting your opponent." she muttered back at him. It seemed to have caught him off guard a bit, but even then he had managed to block of her strike. She was pushed back, seeing him approach with an attack. She quickly moved to the side, though one of his blades had caught onto her robe slightly. She ignored this and went to slash at his back now.

A slight growl escaped his lips as he shifted, his upper body turning sideways so he could move his wakizashi to block. He finished with a pivot, making a quick retaliatory strike. Even if he blocked it, there was a slight cut on his back now where she was able to bury it in about a 8th of a inch. He shifted his weight backwards, before propelling himself forward, spinning sideways as a blade came out, his katana aiming to pierce her from the side.

Minami was quite satisfied that she had managed to land a hit, but she knew not to get too ahead of herself. She was facing a remarkable opponent. She went to chase him as he moved backwards, though she had not anticipated his attack. She went to block with her blade, and had managed to do so, but didn't have enough strength behind it to stop his blade, which had managed to slip down and dig into her side a bit. Now her pure white robe was stained with a bit of crimson. She moved back a bit, giving time to survey the wound. the cut was not that deep, and she would be able to ignore the pain from it.

She was able to stop his blade after it made contact, and he jumped back as she did. He didn't give her much time to survey the wound, instantly jumping back forward and doing a heavy diagonal slice with the katana. He knew better than to give too much time in a assault. It would unbalance her, and that was what he needed to do.

She looked up to see him coming at her again, and she quickly brought up her blade to halt his attack. She felt a slight sting of pain in her side as she held her blade there. "Tch...this is nothing. I'm not going to let you win!" she growled, pushing him and putting some distance again. She went at him again, hoping he was a bit off balance and sent a slash from his left leg to his right shoulder.

He was pushed back by her, and her attack came fast enough. His katana came down to block, and he was able to push it away, but she skinned a little bit of his leg, he could feel the blood dripping down his leg. He growled slightly, jumping back and holding himself in a defensive position.

Then, there was commotion around them. Archers were jumping up onto the roof, and they were stringing arrows, aiming them at the two of them. His attention was instantly shifted from her, holding his blades in a more general defensive pattern. He wasn't sure how many arrows he could block.

She also moved back to catch her breath a bit. they had both taken some hits, but it was clear that nobody wanted to back down. She would have went at him again to try and capitalize on his wound, but she was stopped as she noticed the archers appearing once again. It seemed that they had more people than she thought.

Minami grumbled softly as she noticed them getting ready to fire at them. She noticed that he had directed his attention away from her, focusing instead on the archers. She prepared herself as well for the arrows, and soon enough they had launched a barrage of arrows at them. She was able to deflect a couple of them, with the others not coming close. She was sure that her opponent would be able to hold himself as well. "You better not think of dying. I'm the only one that's going to defeat you." she said before running forward, moving to confront the archers, blocking off arrows in the process.

They had fired a volley at the two of them, but he easily deflected a few, having to catch one with his two blades, though. All the others went wide. "You too." He said as he charged, taking out one before they could restring their bows. It wasn't long until all the archers were dead, split rather evenly between the two of them. He wiped the blood off his blades when they had finished, sheathing his wakizashi and pulling out a arrow that had managed to bury itself into the shoulder plate of his leather armor.

Minami was catching her breath a bit after they had taken out the archers. While she had gotten used to the pain in her side, she had gotten a couple arrows that had grazed her. She had a small cut on her ankle, as well as a small cut on her cheek. for the most part, she didn't have any serious injuries. All the same, she was wondering where exactly these men had come from. Everything seemed to be just fine when she was patrolling. the only thing that was different was...the wagon that came in. It made a lot of sense now. Thinking back she was wondering why they had not attacked her right there.

There were some renewed screams from below them, and Terao turned his head away from her, walking over to the edge of the building to look down. Men with spears were attacking, and he unsheathed his wakizashi. "I don't have time to play around with you anymore." He said in his lower toned voice, before he jumped off the edge of the building.

His jump was met with his blades cutting the head of a nearby spearman in half. He was moving down the space between the two buildings fast, cutting down every spearman that came near.

Minami felt a bit ticked off with his words. with that, they still had not decided who among them was better. Of course, there were more important things to focus on at the moment. "Tch, I'm not going to let you have all the fun!" she said, in quick pursuit of him. She actually tried to move ahead of him, cutting down all the spearmen that confronted her. She saw one come at her from behind and she quickly brought her katana forward, stabbing him in the heart. She kicked him off, removing the blood from her sword once more.
