Two Different Worlds (Ironic & rskde)

He woke in his cell, scared, who was he? He didn't know, all that he knew was that he was craving the drug that had been given to him the day before.. Wormwood as they called it, the most wonderful thing in the world. He hears something drop into his cell, his wide eyes, once filled with life are dull and smoky, where they had been hazel before. He crawls on his hands and knees to the bit of Wormwood that had dropped into his cell, consuming it quickly.

He wanted to open his mouth to speak but the only thing that came out was a croak and a groan as the sweet sensation of the Wormwood entered his body, making him sigh, falling back on to his back, staring up at the ceiling of the cell. He did not know why he was locked up here, or who the mysterious person giving him Wormwood was, but he wished to thank them.

He does this by scratching at the door, literally, wishing for more of the drug that he needed to live. He lets out an ear piercing scream, trying to get the attention of the man with his Wormwooded, he needed more and more.. And more.

Stretching, she pulled her legs to dangle over the bed before standing on them. Ava couldn’t stand not knowing what was happening to Connor. She dreamt of him all night, nightmares mixed with blissful dreams. It was hard without him around since they were together for a few days straight. Her heart ached with each passing second. Sliding out of her room stealthily she steadily walked down the hallway and stairs, making sure the soles of her shoes didn’t snap too harshly on the floor so they knew she was up and around.

Finally, she was on the main floor, her head turning in every direction to try and find an entrance to the cellar downstairs. She closed her eyes as she envisioned how yesterday played out. Trying to think back to when the elves took him she mapped out the directions they proceeded with. Opening her eyes, she knew exactly where to go. Following a hallway nearby there was a door that was portrayed as just a normal wall. She pushed it inwards, the walls caving in and allowing her access. On her way in she closed the door back so no one would suspect a thing.

Hastily she ran down the cemented stairs, feeling as if every minute that passed was one that could have him dead. It grew colder the steeper she got, her breath being noticed as she inhaled and exhaled fervently. The stairs ended, telling her she finally arrived to where she wanted to be. She passed cage after cage, none of them Connor until she reached almost the very end.

She peered into the bars, not even noticing him. He was badly bruised and bloodied, maybe even a broken bone or two. Her eyes welled with tears as she collapsed to her knees, reaching outwards to him. The guards were nearby, hearing their armor clank against one another as they walked.

“Connor…” She whispered out into the cage, her tears strolling down her cheeks.

'Connor...'

The word felt.. Familiar to him, though he didn't know what it meant he turns to look at her, there was obviously something wrong with his eyes, as they had changed color to that of a Wormwood addict.

Everyone in the Juno Confederacy knew of Wormwood, it kept slaves in check and was a very dangerous drug, as it caused dependency almost immediately after using it for the first time, and a telltale symptom of the drug was total loss of memory, and of course the eyes changing to a trademark smoky gray.

He presses himself against the bar, his hand reaching to hers, checking it as if searching for a drug that she may have for him, not grasping it because of any feelings he would have felt before the Wormwood. He looks up into her eyes and he croaks, unable to speak still, mostly because his cognitive functions were still being blocked by the Wormwood, it would take him awhile to recover from the drug if they were to even escape.

When he finds that she has no drug for him he goes back to the center of the cell, curling up into a ball, rocking back and forth as he starts going through withdrawal, as they did not spare him enough Wormwood to get him through the day.

As Connor’s eyes finally met with hers she instantly knew something was off. The once hazel hues to his eyes now a smoky grey. Was this the Wormwood she always heard rumors about? She never saw it into full effect until now. Even his touch was off as he groped at her hands. It was of want and need, but not for her but for his new addiction. Her tears subsided immediately, in shock of his condition and how he didn’t even know it was her, the woman he had just confessed his love for.

It hurt her, but she knew that it wasn’t his fault at all. He was a victim in this case. The sadness quickly turned to anger, her face burning as her blood pressure rose sky-high. She swallowed down harshly before rising to her feet, not baring to look at him in this state anymore. She needed to get him out of the cell.

Just as she was walking down the hall a guard was walking in the opposite direction, halting his feet in surprise as if he weren’t expecting anyone to be down here besides the guards. “Are you lost, miss?” He asked through his helmet. He sounded like a Neko but she couldn’t tell.

“No, I am not lost.” She growled, her tail flicking back and forth as her ears folded backwards in distaste. The guard could sense her displeasure but not knowing why.

“I’m afraid you cannot be here.” He said almost sympathetically.

“I was sent here to get the human out.” She said, looking into the helmet at where his eyes would be. He would frown underneath that armor.

“I cannot do that without another guard present with you.” He said. Ava wasn’t having it. She whipped around to seem as if she were walking away, but suddenly, she whipped around and lifted her right leg up into the air, kicking his chest as hard as she could to knock him down on his ass. It would be easy since he wasn’t expecting it from her.

“H-Hey!” He stammered. “What are you doing?!” He was confused but Ava didn’t care. She quickly took off his helmet, confirming the young Neko underneath.

“You have a lot to learn, kid.” She grunted before punching him dead in the face, knocking him out as blood trickled down his nose. She felt bad to hurt him, one of her own, but she would do anything to get Connor out. Her hands invaded his body as she searched for his keys, finding them on the inside of his arms attached to his hip. Rapidly she retrieved the keys, rising and going to his cage. Her hands shook as she tried to fit the key into the hole. It didn’t get inserted and took a few tries until an approving click sounded off.
Extended her hand out to Connor she whispered. “Pst, let’s get out of here. Can you walk?”

He watches as the whole fight occurs before him, the strange woman attacking one of the men who feeds him Wormwood.. At least he thinks so, he couldn't tell the difference between the ones who wore the full armor like this one that she had in the floor was. He seems interested when he hears the crash of armor hitting the floor, his gray eyes flicking to the unconscious guard on the ground.

The door swings open and the strange woman is there, beckoning for him to follow her.. Maybe she had more Wormwood? He stares at her blankly for a few moments before shakily standing and taking her hand, hoping to find Wormwood within it but is unsuccessful, which makes him whine. The sound was inhuman, the drug pulling from the worst parts of his conscience.

He walks out with her and seems to understand that she wanted him to stay close, his initial thought is that if he remains obedient then she would get him more of the drug that he needed the most. He opens his mouth to speak once more but is unable to, so it looked more like a yawn than anything.

Other than the fact that he was practically brainless he could still walk, and function.. Barely at the capacity that he could before, of course.

Up the hall, more guards approach, having been alerted by the sounds of the other Neko collapsing to the ground in his heavy armor, they spot Ava and Connor, the lead guard, a Troll pointing a big meaty finger at them. "Halt! Stop right there!" He calls, the much smaller guards nimbly beginning to run after them.

Ava stares at the Troll before her, two other guards nearby for added protection. “Please, get out of the way!” Ava pleaded, staying her distance but the trio came closer.

“Why are you helping a human?” the Troll asked, his voice tinged with anger that one of theirs would do such a thing.

“Because he helped me!” She hissed at them, her fur standing upwards in defense as the slits in her eyes compressed to almost nothing. The guards still couldn’t wrap their mind around it, looking at each other in confusion and not knowing what to say to that.

“Maybe she ate some of that Wormwood and she’s having an effect to it.” One of the guards whispered.

“No, I did not!” She hollered before gripping at Connor’s hand tightly. Her heart raced. She never darted head-on to any guards before, let alone three at once. She was stuck. Should she start attacking? It seemed like that was the only way. “Please, I don’t want to hurt you guys, just let us through…”

The Troll shakes its head at Ava as she begins acting defensive about the human. "She must be feral. Kill her." He orders, the two guards he is flanked by look confused at first but soon begin approaching her; their weapons level with her. One of them carried a halberd while the other a regular spear as they walked towards her, ready to kill her.

Connor cocks his head at the two, seemingly confused about what was going on but still able to recognize the threat in front of him, he seems to visibly hide behind Ava, maybe some of his memories had survived the terrible drug.

The Troll points to Connor. "And I want him dead too!" He bellows while walking forward himself, drawing his sword from his hip, the three of course did not realize that Ava was an Elite, they just assumed that she was some stupid brainwashed soldier who was silly enough to get tangled in a mess with a drugged human.

"Why do you even want this human? He is far past gone, you fool." The Troll says, his two guards raising their shields as they prepare to attack her. Both of them lunge towards her at once, though they are obviously way under her level of training.

As Connor cowered behind her she knew she had to protect him. “He’s not far past gone!” She shrieked at the Troll who dared say something so foul. It left a nasty taste in her mouth sound mouthing the words he just spoke. “Connor, do me a favor and please stay away. These people will hurt you.” She gently kissed him on the cheek, surprised that the guards didn’t interfere with the moment until she was finished.

“You have no idea who the fuck you’re messing with.” She growled as both of her hands quickly reached for the blades that were secured in her leather pouches. She walked right in front of them, aware that the weapons were pointed in her direction. They stood there, dazed that she would even be dumb enough to stand right in front of the weapons that could end her life. “Does Ava ring a bell?” She questioned before darting to the side, quickly standing beside the one who carried a halberd. She wanted to try her best to cause little harm to them, not wanting to end their lives for doing as instructed.

Since they didn’t wear helmets it was easy to strike their heads. Taking the base of her dagger she attempted to slam it into his temple but the Troll’s sword interfered with her goal. He didn’t look amused and wished she was more cooperative. Her glare assaults his pupils, unhappy with his intrusion. The guard that held the spear took this as his opportunity to strike her, but she quickly dodged, ducking underneath them before trying to get behind them. They all turned around, keeping their gaze focused on them.

“There’s three of us and one of you. That human can’t help you. He’s useless. Isn’t it just sad?” He chuckled at their misfortune. Ava payed no attention to his hurtful words, dodging the blows that they tried to hit her. It was difficult trying to block each of their attacks, sweat beading at the top of her head as she struggled.

Bending down she kicked one of the guards’ knees, making him stumble and falling back. The Troll took this as an advantage, taking his sword and quickly probing her shoulder, burying his weapon into her flesh. She wailed out in pain, but her grip tightened around the blade that was buried inside of her. “You left yourself open.” She said through gritted teeth, taking the back of her dagger and finally smashing it into someone’s temple, it being the Troll’s. His eyes rolled into the back of his head, collapsing to the ground as his body laid unconscious on the ground. Painfully she extracted the sword from her arm, biting her lower lip as she done so, hard enough to draw blood.

The other two stood there without their leader. “Try me.” She growled as she tossed the bloodied sword on the ground.

Connor hides behind her, it was difficult to tell if he was legitimately registering her words or not. But he watches the fight unfold, watching as Ava fights hard to take down the giant Troll, a part of the cloudiness in his eyes changes back to its original hazel hue, a fleck of green finding itself among the brown and gray. It would appear that watching her fight triggered some sort of memory within him.

When the Troll falls the other two guards drop their weapons, their hands up and their faces stony and stoic, not wanting to admit their defeat to one smaller woman when they had a three to one advantage over her. They move past the guards and out of the dungeons, the way to the stables very clear now and no other guards in sight, as it seems like only the one patrol had heard the commotion.

They would have to move to the stables quickly, in order to steal a horse and get as much ground between them and the Juno Castles as possible. But something was missing.. Even Connor seems to register something was missing as he stares down a stairway promptly marked 'Armory', he seemed to remember where his gear was being stowed.

This of course gives them two options.. Escape via the stable or get Connor's specialized gear before leaving, though it would be a risk it could be worth it later and Connor could not exactly make decisions for himself as of this current moment.

Ava would say nothing in response as the others fled, afraid of what she could do if she could easily knock out the Troll while being injured. Taking Connor’s hand, she guided their way to the stables until Connor’s eye’s stayed glued on armory. She stopped for a second to see what he was looking at until putting the pieces together. He didn’t have his weapons.

Sighing in agitation she knew they needed to go back and get his belongings. They meant a lot to him, remember how deeply and passionately he spoke of them when he was showing them off to her a few days ago. “Come on and let’s get your stuff.” She whispered, turning their bodies around to head down the stairs to the Armory.

It was still early in the morning and she hoped that no one would be downstairs once they arrived, keeping her fingers crossed as she stepped foot on the last stair.

He gives an enthusiastic nod, really the first sign of showing any sort of response as she suggests that they go down and get his items back from the armory that were stolen from him on arrival.

At the bottom of the stairs sits a guard wearing some wicked looking armor, he was probably higher ranked than Ava. When he sees the two coming down the stairs he sees Ava with Connor and his face softens, he simply walks up the hall as if he hadn't seen anything, a small conversation in the Neko language suggests him giving the all clear around the armory.

Connor seems to recognize his own gear, walking over to it and grasping it with his hands, a little bit more hazel makes its way into his gray eyes. He awkwardly puts the cloak on and walks with her back up to the stables, now holding on to her hand as if it were his lifeline, which it essentially was at this point.

Ava stopped in her tracks once she saw the guard, but was surprised that he walked away nonchalantly. She didn’t question it and quickly searched for Connor’s belongings. He found it quicker than she ever would, putting on his cloak before they make their way back to the stables. She never ran so fast in her life, wondering if Connor could keep up. If she could she would carry him, knowing he might collapse any minute. He looked so broken, it was sad… But right now, she had to focus on getting them out of there. Caring for him would have to come later.

The silver stallion that she rode earlier was still there, the leather latch strapped onto the wooden fence that kept them in. She untied the knot and began to help Connor up on the horse. He was heavy but with his willingness to help they managed to get him on. Hastily she mounted the trusty equine, having a tight grip on his steer before making him go out of the stable gate.

Guards began to run after them, hollering as they rode past. “Keep that cloak on you tightly, I don’t want you getting anymore hurt.” She muttered to him as the horse galloped fiercely. She could see her breath as the sun began to rise even more. One guard had a bow and arrow, aiming it at Connor, seeing an opening as Ava bounced around. Steadily he pulled the string back, making it snap forward to see the arrow take off at full speed.

Ava’s hues skated across the area, seeing an incoming attack that was off to the side a bit, directed towards Connor. Acting quickly, she made herself get in the way, the arrow impaling into her right side, just below her rib-cage. Her eyes closed tightly as she bent down in pain, taking a hand and covering the wound as she felt the warm liquid begin to seep out of her clothing. She pulled her hand away to see nothing but blood stain her skin. Her body slumped over the neck of the horse as she panted heavily, trying to steer it as she managed her pain.

With the luck of her God she managed to exit the gates to Juno before they tried to seal it closed, dirt flying up in the air as the horse ran as fast as it could.

Connor wraps his arms around Ava as they ride, his head laying on her back, his eyes staring a thousand yards into the distance as they try to ride out of Juno. He hears the whizzing of an arrow and hears her yelp in pain, by accident the hand wrapped around her glows golden and her wounds seal, the arrow falling out of her wound. She would, however still be feeling the pain as his magic was not nearly as powerful as it was before, it would only stop the bleeding this time.

They finally make it through the gates of Juno and off into the wilderness once more, galloping full speed as trees and other vegetation whip past them. He keeps the same position throughout their whole ride, as their steed was fast and powerful plus the fact that Juno had tried to lock them in meant that if they had anybody tailing them, they would be miles behind right now which gave Connor and Ava a very good advantage.

They ride all day until it is finally time to set up camp for the night, this time trying to get as far from Juno as possible instead of towards it. Connor stares into the fire that she had started, not moving and not speaking which was normal for someone who is dosed on Wormwood. He lays back now and turns his head so that it is buried in his cloak.

He sighs quietly and tucks his legs into his body, the Wormwood really getting to him now, he would have been wondering why the guards didn't just kill him before, or why he didn't just run away, he couldn't remember a specific reason why he didn't just bolt, in fact he really couldn't remember at all

The remnants of blood still coated her hand, that familiar soothing feeling coating her wound as his hand healed her like before. Her head whipped around, noticing that he was still out of it but his body automatically knew what to do and how to react to wounds. He must’ve learned how to be passive about it. The wound closed only 65%, the bleeding subsided as the blood coagulated around the opened area. It hurt like hell, Ava gritting her teeth as they ride. She did grab her backpack when they were in the Armory, the tent neatly folded in as well as the chopped up bore packaged in it. At least the guards did something right.

After the horse had exhausted everything it had they stopped for the night. It was hard for Ava to dismount, clutching her wound as she felt worse than before. It had to of been a poisonous arrow. Her body ached as she set up the fire, having to take small breaks in between to try and subside the pain. Sweat covered her body as her insides tried to fight off the poison, chills and a fever ridding her body.

She didn’t know much about this Wormwood but hoped that in time the effects would fade away. She barley talk to him at all, knowing he couldn’t even respond back. She handed him the canteen of water, suggesting for him to drink the fluids to stay hydrated before she curled up into a ball by the fire, shivering as the poison spread through her body. Maybe if she sweated enough she could sweat it out, she thought. Small whimpers and groans left her parted lips, tears strolling down her cheeks as the pain grew unbearable at times. Ava didn’t have to worry about Connor as he was tucked into his cloak, wearing off his own symptoms.

Connor slowly looks to her when she offers him water, he had been off of his drug for so long that he was going through some major withdrawals, his eyes were bloodshot. Luckily Wormwood was a drug that was easily addictive and also easily gotten off of, as over the hours more of that light hazel color had seeped past the clouds within his eyes, he was making good progress. He also hadn't been exposed to the drug for long enough to be dedicated to it for life.

He had started remembering small details, his name of course, basic words.. And Ava, he hears her whimpering and turns to see her trying to sweat off the pain of poison within her. He crawls over to her and wraps his arms around her, still not recovered enough to be able to talk but he hoped that his comforting her would help her get through some of the pain that she was feeling, as his healing would not be able to help with such a thing.

As she trembles quietly to herself, hands gingerly wrap around her form. Her eyes dart down to see the all too familiar hands of Connor wrapped around her small waist. A light smile breaks from her lips, her own hand resting on the back of his hand before gripping it tightly. Her eyes closed in comfort, breathing steadily as a surge of pain swept through her body, but it was all worth it because she got Connor to safety. Time seemed to be the answer in making this drug become ridden from his body, and she hoped it would clear up sometime by tomorrow.

Turning around to face him as she laid on her opposite side, her eyes looked into his, seeing how the hazel was starting to come back but blotches of smokey grey still covered some of his iris. "How are you feeling, Connor?" She attempted to talk to him as a gentle palm pressed against his cheek. Her thumb caressed his skin as it began to write small soothing circles.

His eyes watch her as she turns in his embrace, her hands moving up to his face to begin gently caressing his cheeks, which makes his eyes close with comfort, warmth spreading through his body. She asks her question and he yearns to speak to her but is still unable to formulate really any words, so in response to her question he simply leans his forehead against hers, nuzzling against her gently as he holds her against him, something he wishes he could have done the night that they had first kissed.

He felt almost weak, unable to talk or fight, unable to do what a normal person would be able to do in everyday life. His eyes open to meet hers, taking comfort in her embrace as her fingers draw little circles on his cheeks. His eyes close and he seems to want to go to sleep, his body relaxing as he falls into the depths of dreams and nightmares.

Ava nods her head gently, understanding that he was still incapable do to certain things right now, such as formulate the words to talk back to her. "It's okay..." She whispered, almost in a motherly tone."I'll be here with you throughout the way." She pressed her forehead against his, closing the space that was between them. At least he was beginning to understand, his affection beginning to blossom.

"Just sleep this chaos away..." She continued to draw circles on his skin, comforting him and uncaring about her own condition. She wanted him to get better. Her wound was nearly healed but it still ached and throbbed. She would take an arrow for him any day. As his lids fluttered closed she did just that herself. She felt warm as he held onto her, the fire crackling in the distance as the wood was being charred. The environment around them played a soothing lullaby, her mind drifting off into sleep out in the open. Ava didn't care, she just knew they needed rest.

Those hazel eyes cracked open slowly, the morning sky painting a beautiful picture in the horizon as the colorful clouds whisked around carelessly in the sky. The fire had died down to almost nothing, the smoke dancing with the air as it had just died down.

In the morning his eyes crack open, his head really hurt as knowledge and memories floods into it. His eyes had washed the last of the clouds from them, finally back to their brilliant shade of hazel. He looks over at her and buries his face into her neck, pressing his lips against her neck gently. "Wake up." He whisper lovingly,, his throat cracked and his voice hurting from underuse.

His arms wrap around her completely and he presses her lips to her jaw before continuing to speak. "My head hurts but I am feeling much better." He whispers to her while resting his forehead against hers before pressing his lips to hers, the feeling explosive within him as a mix of emotion goes through him. "I love you." He says against her lips, a smile spreading across his lips.

Her head tilts to the side as she allows him to explore her neck, showering her with love. "I'm so glad you're feeling better, Connor." Her heart sang as she saw he was back to his old self. Taking his head she held his jawline securely in place as her lips explored his own, small tears strolling down her face as she realized she finally had her Connor back.

"I love you I love you I love you." Continuously she muttered to him, kissing him more as she poured her love to him. She pushed herself up slightly, wincing as her wound hurt but she managed to sit up. "I bet you're hungry." She mentioned before grabbing her bag to pull out the meat from two days ago. "If we cook it, it should be good." She said as she started the fire again, taking nearby sticks to place the meat into it before setting it against the flames.

"What in the world did they do to you?" she asked without thinking if he would be affected by the memories of yesterday.

He groans softly against her lips, a big smile on his face as she says that she loves him over and over again. "I'm glad that I'm better too." He admits while rubbing her back with his hand. He watches as she sits up and winces. His hand presses against her side and glows, the final part of the healing process completing. "Tell me if you feel anymore pain." He says while sitting up, wrapping his arms around her as she grabs meat from the boar he had killed for her.

"Okay, cooking it sounds good." He says while rubbing the back of his head, no matter where they went from now on they would be hunted by both sides, constantly attacked.. But as long as they stuck together it wouldn't matter. "They tortured me." He says to her quietly in response to her question. "Beat me and slashed my skin, wanting information that I refused to give." He explains to her while resting his head against her shoulder.

She sighed in relief that the pain had subsided and she could finally breathe normally again. "Thank you, Connor. I should learn some healing so I can help you out." She said as she turned the meat to be cooked on the opposite side. "I'm sorry..." softly she spoke as her head lowered in disappointment. "I'm sorry that I allowed them to take you. It's all my fault..." her head buried in her palms as she shook her head. "Earlier that day I was fighting with myself. I was going to retreat but I told myself not to..." she admitted to him. "Just as we kissed for the first time I knew I couldn't take you anymore, but they came for us anyways."

She felt his head rest in her shoulder, her chin resting on his head as she pulled her hands away from her face, holding him tightly against her. "It's going to be hard now, to survive." She explained, well aware that both sides will be looking for them. "We are going to have to think of what we're going to do." She sighed.

Connor shakes his head. "You don't have to learn anything for me." He says with a light smile, closing his eyes once more as her chin lays against his head. "The world around us may be dangerous, but we have one another." He says to her quietly. "Until death parts us." He says while pressing his lips against her cheek. "Hey, it's not your fault." He says while holding her, guiding her head to his chest as he rubs her back. "Everything happens for a reason, Ava, you saved my life!" He says with a big smile on his face. "If it hadn't been for you I would still be on Wormwood cutting rocks for Juno and being tortured on a daily basis." He says.

"We need to find a place that the influences of Juno and Oria do not extend to, although I do not know of such a place." He admits. "But I am willing to risk everything to be with you, no matter what." He says before pressing his lips against the top of her head. "I love you too much to let you go."

It brought joy to her core to know he felt this way about her. It felt better hearin it come out from his lips. "And I'll do anything just to make sure I'm with you, but please teach me some healing." She's begging more than asking. "If we're going to face this together I need to learn some healing spells so I can heal you. It wouldn't be fair if I continued to get healed." She held his waist tightly as her head rested i his chest, listening to the steady rhythm of his pulse.

"I don't know where we could go either. Maybe we can find a cave, or a village that was abandoned. There's plenty of those from the earlier years." She suggested before sitting up to grab the evenly cooked meat, handing him his slice.

Connor smiles and holds her tightly to him. "I will love you forever, Ava, I swear." He says to her while pressing his lips against hers once more. "I will teach you to heal, then, if you really want to." He says with a grin, running his fingers through her hair. He begins to eat the food that she got for him, savoring the flavor of it. "I didn't get to eat much while imprisoned." He admits to her while holding her.

"Let's find an abandoned village, we can get a fresh start." He says to her while rubbing her back. "We could even start a family there, and we wouldn't be killed for it." He says to her softly, though it was a little too early to be talking about family, he felt that she was his soul mate.
