Kylessa Holybough

Kylessa's eyes fluttered shut as she chanted a primordial elven song. She bowed to the goblin, rapier tip touching the grass, wand stretched towards the heavens. The redhead danced up to face the worg side by side with Ran. She advanced in a series of pirouettes. Colors ran behind her like wet paint, coalescing into additional images of the blade-singer. By the time she engaged the worg, there were four of her!

Closing with the lead goblin and his warg.

The goblins look incredibly confused by Kylessa's movements, as well as the sound of her chant that was now echoing in surround sound across the clearing.

Susan and Biri's turn. You can have them both act in one post since no enemies act between them.

Biri

Biri hefted her shield and hand axe. Glancing at the goblin archer, she intoned a quick prayer, invoking Lathander's light against the foes of the faithful.

A rosy radiance lit up the light dancing between the boughs and called it down on the goblin!

She stayed vigilant, then, ready to protect her friends with a flare of divine light.

Sacred Flame.
2 Radiant Damage.
Reflex save DC 12 reduces to 1 radiant damage.
Next attack against a friend will suffer disadvantage from Warding Flare.

Susan hissed as the little arrow buried in her thigh!

The redhead looked about, shifting to keep the weight on her good foot.

Finding the goblin who'd shot her, she leveled her big crossbow, took careful aim, and squeezed off a shot with a loud twang!

21 to hit.
1 Superiority Dice added to damage.
16 Damage!

A holy light descended on one of the goblins, brought forth by the fires of Biri's faith. "Breea!" The goblin cried, the holy power burning his skin slightly. After a moment he was able to force himself to ignore the pain, turning back to the battle.

Susan quickly found the goblin who had shot her, the orange creature still stringing it's bow when she returned fire. The arrow flew quick and true, punching through its makeshift armor and burying itself deep within his flesh. The Red Skull didn't even have time to blink, falling over dead, the missile having pierced his heart. One of their attackers was dead, but several still remained.

Despite his confusion the worg lashed out at one of the Kylessa's, attempting to bite it. Whether by luck or some greater awareness he managed to find the true Kylessa, but her movements let her from getting bit.

The goblin leader, seeing that the women were more trouble than he thought, leapt from his foul steed, ran towards Susan and jumped onto her front. He wrapped his skinny arms around hers in an attempt to keep her from acting while he buried his face in her chest. He was only there for a second when the redhead realized what he was trying and quickly got an arm free to toss him off, the goblin hitting the ground with a huff.

Meanwhile his worg ran towards Biri, lunging at her with jaws wide open. Against all odds the dire wolf found a weakness in her armor, biting into her (relatively) soft flesh.

The last goblin ran towards Biri as well, seeking vengeance for the burn she'd left on his arm. He flanked her with the worg, striking her with his scimitar and drawing blood.

Congrats, you did more than twice that goblin's health in damage; he's dead like disco.

The worg managed to find the real Kylessa, but that disadvantage kept it from successfully hitting.

Goblin 3 attempted to 'grapple' with Susan and failed...Miserably. he's now prone on the ground next to her.

Biri takes 13 total damage from both attacks.

Susan Skythorn

“Oh!” Susan gave a high pitched shriek as the goblin's face planted into her cleavage, “Disgusting!” The redhead hurled the goblin away. She dropped her heavy crossbow and smoothly drew her hand crossbow and short sword. Susan shot the goblin point blank with the crossbow, then lunged in an attempt to drive her blade as deep into the goblin's body as she could!

Primary Attack (Crossbow):
Attack Roll: 19
Damage Roll: 3
Secondary Attack: Short Sword
Attack Roll: 14
Damage Roll: 2

The bolt Susan fired ended up punching through the goblin's armor, lodging in his gut. Unfortunately he was ready for her next attack, managing to bring his wooden shield up to defend himself, the sharp metal impacting on the block of wood with a dull thud. He's noticing bleeding though.

Kylessa's turn, then Susan and Biri

Biri

Biri hissed in pain as goblins and worgs bore down on her. She whispered a quick word in the celestial tongue to scab and soothe her wounds. Then the dragonborn--spinning quickly to the right and left to keep her defenses up, swatted at a goblin with her axe.

Bonus Action: Healing Word cures 4 damage.
Attack Roll: 21
Damage Roll: 4

Kylessa's rapier meets worg flesh, a long cut marring it's hide as the beast howls in pain.

And despite her wounds Biri is able to make short work of the goblin at her back, her axe cutting it's neck, the lifeless body falling to the forest's dark earth.

One more goblin dead, and now it's Ran's turn

Ran Fletcher

AC 16
Berserk Round 2

Ran grave a fierce grin as she danced around and about the goblin leader and his steed.

She brought her battle ax at the worg in a perpendicular circle cut, trying to strike at the shoulder while it's fangs faced elsewhere. Then, when it turned back, her hand ax went for it's nose.

Battle Ax:
Attack Roll 17
Damage Roll 6

Hand Ax:
Attack Roll 23
Damage Roll 1

Ran's fury is a sight to behold, the woman swinging her ax to and fro as she danced about the worg. And though there was a wildness to her movements none could deny her skill, each slice cutting into the worg's soft flesh and drawing no small amount of blood from the beast. Still though it stood, growling as it looked at the woman who was causing it so much trouble.

Still surrounded on all sides by the elf's illusions, the worg lashing out and attempting to bite into her soft elven flesh. Too bad for the beast that it was an illusion that it caught, the bit of spellwork disappearing into the ether now that the truth was known.

Angered by the sight of it's own blood on Ran's ax, the other worg snarled loudly before trying to bite her, but Ran easily swayed out of the way to avoid the beast's jaws.

Deciding that discretion was the better part of valor (or at least whatever passed for valor among goblinoids), the sole remaining Red Skull tribesman jumped to it's feet and started to run away from the battle, it's short legs letting it travel surprisingly far as it got the hell out of there, though the goblin was still visible as he made his way into the deep forest.

One of Kylessa's images was destroyed, but otherwise you took no damage this round.

The last goblin is trying to escape, it's maybe 20 feet from Susan now and heading deeper into the forest. Meanwhile the worgs are still standing, though one of them is a bit less steady than before.

Your turns now

Ever so briefly, Susan pondered shooting down the fleeing goblin, but it really wasn't her way.

Instead she drew her short sword and hand crossbow, and moved to join her friends in surrounding the worgs. She drove her short sword into it's flank, then loosed a quarrel from her hand crossbow point blank.

Short Sword:
16 to hit.
5 damage.
Crossbow
21 to hit.
4 damage.

The pride in Kylessa's voice soared as she maneuvered balleticaly around the worg, seeking advantage from the position of her friends, to strike again.

Attack Roll: 8

Biri

Biri turned from the fallen goblin and stepped closer to the nearest worg, bringing her ax down hard.

17 to hit.
7 damage.

Susan's attacks struck true, her sword slicing into the softest part of the worg's back as her bolt buried itself in one of it's legs. Against all odds however it remains standing, if a bit more unsteadily than before...At least until Biri swings her axe down on it, slaying the beast with a dull thud.

Kylessa has rather less luck however, the worg managing to avoid her strikes even as she dances around it.

The elven woman's luck continued to be poor, as the worg finally managed to get it's fangs to bite into her soft flesh, drawing her blood for the first time in this fight.

Meanwhile the last remaining goblin continued on his path into the forest, disappearing amongst the trees as he ran for his life.

Kylessa takes 12 damage from the worg's attack.

Only one worg remains of the ambush, and now it's back to the party's turn.

Unable to reload her crossbow with her short sword in hand, Susan simply focused on driving her short sword as deep into the worg as she could.

23 to hit.
9 damage.

Kylessa shrieked in pain as fangs closed over her shoulder. She pulled out of the bite by falling into a backwards roll, then came back in, bloody shoulder and all, with a lunge.

8 to hit.

Biri new that Kylessa was very strong in many ways, but not as rugged as most of them. Even as she kept hacking at the profane wolves, she sang out a healing word to restore the elf gir.

Healing Word: Heals Kylessa 7
14 to hit
9 damage.

Seeing her friends bleed only renewed Ran's furious strength. The worg managed to drive her battle ax aside, but she struck hard with her hand ax.

Battle Ax: 6 to hit.
Hand Ax: 12 to hit.
8 damage.

Now that there was only one foe for the women to face they were able to strike quickly against it, and by the time Susan, Biri, and Ran were done with it the worg fell to the ground, silent and unmoving. They had succeeded in slaying the beast, though not without suffering wounds of their own. The dragonborn's magics would no doubt help in that regard, as Kylessa could confirm given that her own wounds were starting to heal after Biri was finished with her spell.

Now that they had weathered through the ambush though, the group of four would simply need to figure out how to get back onto the path they'd left, and then they could continue their mission and (hopefully) make their way to the fort.

Congratulations on winning your first combat, everyone gains 300 XP!

At this point you can do whatever you want with the corpses, and then once you're done you can make another Survival check to seee if you can get back to more familiar ground.

The girls rooted around in the fallen for loot, then said payers for the fallen. One of them sugested building caerns ofr the fallen, but they decided they didn't have time, the goblisn might come back in force.

They moved back they way they'd come for about an hour, then spent another hour in rest and recuperation, cleaning ieach other's wounds, eating and drinking, regaining thier strength.

Biri spends two hit dice and has 3 damage remaining.
Ran is uninjured.
Susan spends one hit dice and is now uninjured.
Kylessa spends one hit dice and is now uninjured.

Once they felt their wounds on the mend and their strength restored, the girls continued retracing their tracks in an attempt to get back on the path the map described. Ran and Susan worked together to try and find the path.

Ran: 7
Susan: 16

Most of what the goblins had on them was worthless to anyone with any amount of taste, though one of them had a small coin pouch that contained 14 copper coins.

Between the two of them Ran and Susan are able to make their way back to the last spot where they'd definitely been on the correct path, the trek taking about three quarters of an hour. From there Susan was able to direct them along the map's path, taking them on a winding trail that eventually brought them to a wooded area just outside of the western side of Fort Wellspring. There's a large, closed metal gate on this side, though the poor condition of the surrounding walls means that it won't be a major obstacle to getting into the fort proper. Indeed, from where you are it looks like the damage from the battle a century ago has only gotten worse, only the northern tower still standing within it's walls.

By this point the sun is high in the sky, and from it's position the women can tell that it's shortly after noon.

Alright, you've successfully managed to arrive at Fort Wellspring. I'd like for you to describe how you plan on getting from where you are to inside the fort's walls.

After a little discusion, the girls agreed that they would move to the far side of the fortress from the gate.

There, Ran would scale the wall and take a look over. If things were fairly clear, the bearbarian could send down a rope to help the other girls climb.

The other girls would be in position to cover her as best as they could. If things grew desperate, Kylessa could use Misty Step to cross the wall.

It took scarcely more than two minutes for the girls to make their way to the other side of the fortress. When they got there they found that the wall on this side suffered some damage over the years, the initial damage from the ancient battle growing over time. Approaching the wall Ran began her climb to the top of it...

Ran should make a DC 12 Athletics check to get to the top, and a Perception check if she succeeds on that

Ran managed to get to the top of the wall with only a little difficulty; there were a few times where she almost placed her hand on more loose parts of the wall but each time she realized that the spots wouldn't hold her and tried a different handhold. When she reached the top she was able to see into the main part of the fort and if the outside looked like it was crumbling then the rest of it looked like a disaster had struck.

The redhead was able to see a number of skeletons scattered around the area (clearly nobody had cleaned up after the battle all those years ago), mostly humanoids but a few belonging to some unknown creature. More interestingly however was something she saw on the ground across the way from her: A goblin's corpse, and one that must have been killed fairly recently too!

Next to the goblin Ran could see a crude banner, on which was a shape that she eventually recognized as a poor rendition of a goblin. The only distinguishing feature of it was that, where the nose should have been, there was a large black smudge, as though someone had smeared charcoal on it. From the distance Ran couldn't see how the goblin had been killed, or whether it was 'fresh', but it was a sign that they might not be alone in the Fort!

If Ran lowers the rope like you said she was going to then the DC for the others climbing up will be reduced to 10.
