Pony: All right Pony I'm going to simplify this to a really base level so you can decide which to see first- Action and gore or Suspense and mindfucking?
Both are really good, but in all honesty I did enjoy Shutter Island more. It's one where you have to pay attention to detail since everything said ties back in later down the line, no matter how mundane.

Battle: The Crazies was well done, for a sequel like remake. The character names Judy and David are kinda recycled from the first, however according to all marketing campaigns (all 6 websites that add information to the movie) it is a sequel. The events of the first took place in Pennsylvania while this is in Iowa. If you're into this type of film, I'd say definitely go see it.
