Tell me Lies (Mali & Jacob)

Chloe grinned slowly. His humor never ceased to amuse her and it was one of the things she missed the most about him. He always knew how to make her laugh. Sure, she used to get teased for her honk of a laugh but when she hung out with Jake and he made her laugh, she didn’t feel self-conscious about it. She could let her freak flag wave freely. She wondered what it would be like to do that again.

“I never got into video games. But I do still love board games. So if you have some, we can play them while we watch a movie. Preferably PG-13 or rated R.” She grinned. “I’ve grown up over the years. As have you and we’re not little kids anymore.” Although she still did love a lot of kid movies.

"Of course! Here are your choices!" He opened a nearby closet and revealed tons of board games. "I've gotten them on the cheap for a while. They never seem to sell very well any more. As for movies..." he pulled out a tablet and pulled up his personal server and handed it to her. "I have a catalogue of movies going back as far as you can think. They are listed by genre. Pick anything you like." He was hoping that this would help her to forget yesterday for a while. Get her to relax a little. He came around her shoulder to look at her decisions and put a hand on her shoulder. Just a friendly motion, he told himself.

Walking to closet, coffee mug in hand, she sipped as she perused his beautiful collection of board games and began selecting a few: Candyland, Chutes and Ladders, Sorry, Connect 4, Monopoly, Life, and Trouble. She grinned as she set the last one on top of the others on the ground before turning her attention to his movie collection. “Wow, very organized. This is really high tech!” She had never seen or heard of anything like this.

She scrolled through all the movies, stopping at an all time favorite and classic of hers. “I can’t believe you have this movie.” She pointed to the Drew Berrymore movie, Never Been Kissed. “And because you do, I love you for that.” She giggled, kissing his cheek. That and Pride and Prejudice were her two favorite movies she could watch over and over again.

He grabbed his cheek, shocked at her kiss for a moment. "Y-yeah, couldn't have this collection without it!" He grabbed the board game and set it up on the coffee table. He walked over to the tablet and flicked the movie towards the TV screen, turning it on and starting the movie simultaneously. "I was only partially kidding about having this set up ready. It's a pastime of mine to set up this kind of tech. Ready to play?" He sat down on one side and waited for her to have her own seat.

Chloe watched him as he set the movie up, fascinated that it took only one flick and the movie was set on the screen, waiting to be played. "Incredible." She smiled, walking over to the table and sat down on the opposite end, ready to play their game and for the movie start. "Yes please." She then looked to the board game in front of her. Candyland. Perfect way to start everything.

He waved to her. "Ladies first, unless you have something to tell me..." he smirked at her. An old joke of theirs. "I'd hate to say 'my best friend is a guy'" he took a swig of his drink. He always ruled her in this game, and had no intention of giving in to her this time. "Ready to lose?"

Chloe grinned broadly. Oh she missed their witty banter. Even as kids, they has some very inappropriate banter, probably making that one of the reasons her father cut them off after Jake’s dad died. Though she did recall a particularly humorous moment when she said something completely inappropriate that had both of their fathers looking in shock. It still made her giggle.

“Well, it has been a while since I have taken my hormone injections. I am feeling a little scratchiness in my throat. I think my deep, burly, manly voice is coming back. Oh is that a facial hair?” She asked, touching her chin, giggling. She missed this, oh how she missed this. It was as if over a decade hadn’t passed. It was like no time had passed at all and they were picking up right where they left off.

“I see you haven’t changed. I am ready to lose. To lose my freaking mind from the mindless maniacal laughing I will do when you lose! Buahahahaha!” She calmed down, grinning. “Okay, I’m back now. Let’s see if I can finally win.” She beamed, picking a card.

He grinned. "Come to think of it, is that a bulge I see in your pants?" He poked right back at her. Like they had never spent time apart. He watched as she played her cards, moved along the board, and he reciprocated. "Oh you will lose your mind, don't you worry. I've been told I do that to women. Then again, if you have enough estrogen to feel my charms." He took another swig and folded his arms. He waited for her to make the next move.

“Nope, just your sock. I got a little cold down there.” She chirped, setting her yellow piece on an orange square, a little ways up the first row of the candy trail. “You should just let someone else tell you do that to women. No need to repeat it.” She teased, smirking a little. She just had to cut down on his own little pride there, she just had to. It was too good and opportune to pass up!

“I think I might be forever immune to the charms of men. I will not fall for it again.” Her tone was a little acrid, bitter and she shook her head. She fell for it with Alden. Never again. Too much had gone wrong because of it. Because she was so vulnerable, so weak and so desperate. Never again.

Having no more banter at the moment, she picked a card and moved two blue paces, actually passing his piece. That was new!
