Leila sighed to herself as she walked down the dark streets of Venice. She was hurrying as she did so. She knew her mother would be worried that she was out so late. The recent killings had rattled everybody's coin boxes. Before the recent incidents, there wasn't much crime spoken about. Murder wasn't a very cheerful topic at the dinner table, but these killings were in the back of everyone's mind for the simple reason that the killer was still at large.
The people were upset with the law enforcement right now. It was simply unacceptable that the killer still be at larger after 11 victims had been found dead. How did they know it was the same person killing all these people? That was easy; every victim had been killed the same way. The only wounds found on the body were two deep holes in the victimâ??s neck. How such minuscule wounds could kill was beyond anyone. The victims were always female and their bodies were always drained of blood. Leila herself had wondered how someone could have been killing this way.
The church had taken the killings and used them to gather more followers. They claimed that demons were among us, that we should look to the Holy Father for strength, guidance and protection. Leila herself was catholic but even she felt that what they preached was a bit farfetched and every Sunday she found herself becoming bored in church. Even now as she hurried down the street, one of the priests was preaching and urging all to look to god.
She sighed to herself and turned down the alley way, it was a short cut she always took to get home. However today she would find a surprise waiting for her. She stopped dead in her tracks at the sight she saw. It was a twelfth victim. She ran over to the woman's body. Perhaps she was still alive.
She shook her a little "Hey, can you hear me". She moved her ear down to her mouth. The woman breathed out the words "Run...away...monster...is...here...". She pulled away to look at her. Her body went limp and cold. She was gone. Leila looked down a little and said a silent prayer for her as her moved her hand up to close her eyes. She looked around, her eyes darting around, trying to see if she was safe herself. When she found she was alone she was relived a little. She looked back at the body and saw the two wounds in the neck. She was puzzled as to what could cause such a wound and where was all the blood this woman had lost.
She stood up and sighed. She looked around; no one had seen her yet. She really didn't want to be the "damsel in distress" she couldn't just leave her here. She walked back out of the alley and told a police man that was walking by. She showed him the body and left it at that, turning to leave again. She walked out of the alley and continued to walk home. She felt a little shaken by what she had just experienced. This was a bit unusual for the green eyed and brown curly haired maiden. She was very headstrong in experiences like this. But sheâ??d never seen a dead person. She felt a bit strange inside.
