Martha knew very well, this wasn't and would never be anything like New York. El Paso was dirty, smelly and full of people who looked like trash. Martha had spotted several cowboy types while walking from the train station to the hotel. They were rough looking men, and Martha didn't want Belle anywhere around such men. El Paso also had no taxi to carry people from the train station to the hotels in town. This made El Paso unlike New York City. Martha wasn't staying long. She planned on returning home soon, and she planned on bring Belle with her. She was sure her surprise would make Belle see returning to New York was in her best interest. It was a surprise Martha felt, her niece couldn't resist. Martha looked at her husband, giving him a nod of her head. Uncle Philip then moved towards a door which opened into another room. Philip popped his head inside, and stated that "she" was here.
Uncle Philip then stepped away from the door, but left it open. A male figure soon appeared in the doorway. It was a figure Belle knew very well. The figure was of the man she'd been engaged too before coming out west. His name was William Prescott. He came from a very rich family in New York. He'd been Belle's beau and they talked marriage before the tragedy struck her family. Not knowing what the future held for her. Belle broke off their engagement and told William not to wait for her, but it appeared that he did. William entered the room, looking as he did when Belle left him. " You look just as beautiful as the last time I saw you my darling Belle. " William spoke as he moved acrossed the room, wrapping his arms around Belle, pulling her close to his body. Something in how he held her, told Belle this is why Martha & Philip were here. William then kissed Belle on her lips, just like he used to back in New York.
