In the Moonwood, chasing unicorns.
The badlands were a stretch of stony hills and mountains west of the Kingdom of Tarmond. They were a dangerous place, home to all manner of evils not welcome in the lands of Men. It was also a land rich with treasure. Men, dwarves, and gnomes sent armed expeditions into the mountains to bring fortunes in iron, gold, and jewels out of the mountains. Dragons slumbered on treasure hordes. Most valuable of all, this was the site of a once great and powerful kingdom of sorcerers. The remains of their civilization were rich with enchanted treasures and arcane lore.

Stories drifted through Tarmond of Astaroph's Spire—a tower of seemingly solid ivory. Many believed that there was great treasure within, but no one in living memory had found a way to enter!

Tiran was a young human around 15 years old. He was quite small around five feet and four inches. He got light blond hair and quite a baby face. He was very girly looking and because of that many man for his village mock him. Some has even call him name and others even call him Tira instead of Tiran just to laugh of him. He tried to get on many job but for most of the real man job he was to small and to weak. So there was only one thing to do for him.

His parents died some years ago when he was nine taken by some strange disease and he had no sibling. So he was left by himself to find food. People didn't truly bother with him or the petty larceny he do as he only stole food. He was good at it and with the years he was getting better and better. One day, an old man came to him and told him that he might had some job for him. He was weird and all but Tiran didn't really cared.

The man told him that he got some map and he was ready to go on an expedition but sadly his horse had some problem on the road and he was to old now to got there on foot. He told Tiran that he was ready to hand him the map if he would go there to found a small blue crystal for him and return it. He could keep everything else that would be there. Tiran was a little suspicious but lately the town guard was getting more on his case. So getting a little away from town might be a good idea. He had accepted the deal and took the map from the old man.

The map talk about a strange land and a strange tower but as Tiran knew nothing of this and he was glad to be able to get out of town he didn't care and he move out with the little stuff he had with him. "Lost treasure, here i come".

Out into the stony hills, miles from keep or hold...

Tiran moved quietly between the hills in search of the spire. Just around the bend, footfalls sent scree rolling down the hill—if it was a monster, it would be his first sign of anything more dangerous in these lands than some little deer with sharp horns and a pack of coyote who wanted his dinner.

And if it wasn't? Well, better safe than sorry, right? He could hide in that shrub, to behind that stone...

Tiran was the kind of person to be easily afraid, the guard in town made sure of that. They often beat him for the low cash he was able to get and they always made him run in fear for years but they knew he was very good for one thing and that thing was to find object peoples as lost and he made himself a good reputation as a lost item seeker. But not a good enough reputation for the guards to leave him alone. He was still to weak and to girlish for them so they always treat him bad and took everything he had when they could. He was always to weak to defend himself and he always gave them the money when they ask. One thing he had found out, is there was thing out there far more frighting then the guard.

He was too sure of what was the thing that made the noise but he wasn't sure he wanted to stay there to find out but there was no place to run so that left him with only one thing to do and that was to hide and hope the thing haven't spotted him yet. He took a good stone covered with some bushed and he hide there as best as he could.

He watched quietly form behind the boulder as six hobgoblins stalked quietly along the road. Each wore studded leather armor--wth more than a few spikes. They carried spears of polished bornze, and had heavy cudgels at their belts, and long knives too.

They looked around, studdying the ground. For a moment, Tiran feared one of them was about to spot his tracks despite the hard packed earth. Then another called otu softly in his gutteral languee and pointed off in another direction.

All six stalked away.

Tiran was quite relieve when the six hobgoblins start to move in a different directed but he knew that they weren't stupid and maybe it was a trick so he waited a little bit longer just to be sure that they were truly gone. The he move back from his hiding spot and he continue were his instinct and that supposed to work map told him to go.

Tiran still look around him as he move just to be sure that no monster was around waiting for a nice meal, him. He was always open for some adventure but finishing into the belly of some odd monster wasn't an adventure he would want to remember. He was a little relief to finally see that ivory spire after a couple of hours of walk but he was almost there, so he push on to go there as soon as possible.

Tiran made it to the tower faster than he'd expected to—in less than a half hour. There was no sign of beastlies lurking around.

The young man circled the base of the spire a few times, poking and prodding a few times and places, but couldn't find any sign of an entrance. Contrary to how it looked at a distance, the spire wasn't perfectly smooth. It was almost assembled like a puzzle. It might be possible to climb?

Tiran was a little tired but on another way staying out here in the field next to the spire might not be the best of idea so maybe trying to climb it would be a better idea. Since it seem assemble like a puzzle it was really possible that the entrance might be higher on the structure rather then at the base. Tiran took his time and he started to climb the spire slowly being careful not to fall since he doesn't have any climbing gear beside his hand and feet. He sigh and spoke to himself "Let's go, i can do it" to lift is courage up a little.

Tiran carefully and deftly ooched his way up the side of the tower. He kept a good pace, pausing form time to time to search for an entrance. Sure enough, a bit over three stories up, the young thief located a hair thin crack along the inside of the textures he was making his way across. A bit more study, and then a little wiggling, and he realized he could shift things about to affect a mechanism inside the tower.

Tiran was a little more awaken now that he has an opening of some sort, this was his big chance at life since if the place was filled with treasure as the old man has said then this will get him to be rich and he would be able to hire new guard that would beat those that bullied him. After they would be beaten, he would make the whole village paid for his misery and for the way they treated him. Like he wasn't good for nothing and calling him a thief after he found what they had lost. After being called a thief often he truly became one. That way they wont call him that for nothing.

He tried to move the block in many ways until some opening seem to be forming into the spire. He was so glad and excited, that when it was big enough for him to pass, he didn't even thought about safety and jump into the opening directly.

Though Tiran wasn't thinking of safety, a well trained eye and a great deal of luck stopped him from crossing the ward on the inside of the window at the last moment...

Could he rub out one of the faint lines of collored powder, would he colapse the arcane trap wtihout turning into a newt?

Tiran felt a little stupid now after he was in the spire. He look at the ward and wondered what to do. He herd and saw some small magic and he heard about some ward so nasty that you don't want to mess with them. Some can even kill you on the spot. He look around to see if he would be lucky enough to find some way to deactivate it or at least to be able to overcome it in some way. After all he wasn't here to die but to find some strange crystal and many others treasure and naturally those are protected.

He move to look closer that the thin powdered lines hoping to see some way to go without breaking them.

Studying it carefully, Tiran noted three lines that branched off. Between a few disucions he'd had with older thieves and his own honed intutiion, it seemed to him that if he took his brush and rubbed out the right line, the ward would loose the power flowing into it and disipate...

If he could rub out the right one.

Tiran look at the ward and at the three lines. He thought about what normally a thief would do to remove it. Normally a thief would go for the farthest lines thinking that since it the farthest it would be harder to remove it with touching the other lines. Or they would try the first line saying that the one that put it there would go for something not too hard so he can remove it easily.

Tiran was different then everybody else and maybe that why he still free and alive. He never do as other would and seeing this place her was mostly sure that the builder of this trap was also making thing differently. Since the farthest and the closest are to most evident choice. Tiran choose to remove the center line, being very careful to not mess up with the two others lines.

There was a fizz, and the ward was burned slowly away by green flames.

Slipping through the window, Tiran found himself in something that seemed to be an exotic bed chamber—perfectly preserved as if new. It was a wide chamber, circling around the center of the tower. Silken cushions big enough to lounge or sleep upon resided everywhere. Soft orange lights in crystal globes brightened to illuminate the place. Fountains sprang to life, perfuming the air.

It was also so clean and new, the place might have been abandoned yesterday.

The window smoothly ground shut behind him. Glancing back at the wall, he saw boudoirs, wardrobes, and chests, complete with beautiful silver mirrors.

Tiran look around quite at awe with what was lay before him but he wonder why he was in a bed chamber. That doesn't look like a dongeons at all but on the other side he doesn't have anymore information on this place maybe he should have ask that strange old man a little more about this place before he just go and look for it. This room was nice and the smell from the fountain was lovely.

Tiran look around him and he realize that in some way now, he was completely trap into the room since the window is close now. He look around for another door or at least something useful in all those containers.

Tiran found a sort of round room with a wide door at the center of the chamber.

Before leaving, though, he found a an emberasement of riches in jewelry and silky, gauzy, and definatly girly clothing.

One item that particularly caught his attention--in the middle of the hardest lock he managed ot bypass, was a golden filigree armband that joined to the fingers by rings.

Tiran took what he could in jewelry and gem since it's the easiest to take. Then he saw the armband, it was magnificent and well protected so the value of that items must be quite high. But before he try to sold it maybe it could be useful to him. He took the armband and put it on is own arm and he pass the fingers through the rings on the hand. "Nice" he tought to himself.

Tiran was getting excited now, this was definitely something for him. Like this place was build especially for him but in another way the clothes and jewelry where female so maybe not for him only. He just seem to fit the pattern here and there and that made him felt like he was finally at the right place.

He move to the stair and move up first since the top of the spire doesn't seem that far and down could open to several layer underground so up first would be the best way to go.

Several minutes later, at the top of the spire, Kieran worked through another lock and emerged into a spherical chamber lit by flickering and dancing cool blue-white lights. Rounding a wall, he found that the center of the chamber was a massive pillar of crystal. Strange energy arched up from it to the dome.

Tiran look at the structure and wonder what it was use for. He approach the crystal pillar carefully to see what purpose it serve.

A few steps forewardsd and the creak under Tiran's feet told him he was standing on a trap door, then...

After a moment of staring at the archs fo energy dancing back and forth in the pillar, Tiran reached out to touch it.

First a tingle...

Then a heating in his blood, and a strangely sexual pleasure in ways he'd never quite felt before...

Then a brilliant flash hurled Tiran back from the crysal.

When his eyes fluttered open again, Tiran was lying atop the trap door. He was a little dizy, feeling strange. His clothes were shredded, and burned, and didn't fit right anymore...
