Magnus the Prophet looked up from his book, staring straight into the eyes of Vitacari, the albino woman that many regarded as the most powerful Seer in the land. He looked solemn, saddened that his normally meticulous calculations were a decade out. Despite the humiliation in front of the Seer, he was not so proud to admit his mistakes.
"I have never had reason to doubt your abilities my lady," he began, "and so I will assemble the bretheren at once." Vitacari looked relieved, glad that Magnus was willing to listen to reason.
"I had not wished to question you in public," she replied, her ice white eyes as penetrating as ever, "however there can be no mistake. The Demon of the Third Circle is rising and will break through into our realms within the next three days. You know what is required to prevent his ascension."
"Yes," replied Magnus, already running the list of requirements through his mind. "Without satisfaction, the beast will remain unbound and run rampant, raping and destroying whatever it comes across. Five times must it be sated and its seed spent. Do you really think we can find one capable of resisting its powers for so long? The beast will likely destroy a normal human and I had believed that we had another ten years to find such a mortal."
"It's not impossible," replied the older woman, her pale hands idly stroking some of the objects that decorated Magnus' study. "I believe I know of one who might fit the bill."
"There can be no 'might' about it," stated Magnus. "If you know of someone, you must be confident in their abilities. If they fail, we will not live to try again. The Lust Demon will ravish all in its way, destroying those it does not rape first. I ask you to be sure."
"I am sure," she replied, a smile illuminating her lips. "Have some faith in me."

Three days passed. Three days during which Magnus gathered together the Brethren, the group of sages and arcanists who had sworn to battle the Beasts of the Nine Circles whenever they threatened to crawl out of the Pit. Meeting in secret, the ten magic users had followed the prescribed ritual to the letter, setting out an immense circle with a raised altar in the middle. The plinth was large and wide, big enough for a person to lie down upon. All the the practitioners knew what kind of ritual would be required to return the Beast to the Pit.
Finally, Magnus opened the circle at the far end, facing the direction of the rising sun. Only the Annointed One could come from direction of life and banish the being that would enter from the other side. Magnus raised his hand and bid Vitacari to step forth.
"Seer, I ask you now to present our saviour and champion of this night," he intoned in his deep, bass voice. He hoped that she had chosen well but in the pit of his stomach he could feel the dull ache of fear.
