There was only one word for the primary feeling James had ewhen Callie laid into him. Rage. it was pure, and it was hot, adn demanded he act. But he also knew that he needed to look at this properly. On oe hand he could have Callie join Gabby in the pain he inflicted on them, make sure she knew exactly where she was on the ladder. But the threat to turn him in provoked a different reaction than he'd thought it would. It was concern, surely, but it wasn't for his own well being. For Callie to be at this point, she had to not only be angry, she had to be very very afraid. And that was something that he needed to address.
He stormed right after he, his hand hitting her back to give her enough of a shove to get her out of the door, and pulled it shut behind him, dropping Chloe back into the darkness. He caught Callie's shoulder, adn spun her to face him, but also to make sure she didn't fall from his shove.
"A few things. First of all, if you to chew me out for something, maybe not do it in front of one of the people we're trying to make sure doesn't blow the whistle on everyone in the house? Give her a moment of hope that enough division might actually give her a chance to escape." He half snarled. Then he held up a hand, a sign that he knew he needed to calm down, to step back. He'd made it in arguments that he knew that he was in the wrong, and couldn't defend his position. "Second. Gabby has been brought around to a deal. Which means she's not trying to escape, so we can use...somewhat gentler methods to bring her around now. I had tried what worked last time, and it wasn't. Working. I had to adapt. And pain is an excellent motivator. Now I intend to show her the softer side of things, bring her to us all. And thirdly, blowing the whistle on me now? Callie, that ship has sailed. There's not a jury in the world that will believe that more than sixteen years and two children later that you were a pirsoner. You'll be standing right there beside me when they put me on trial, especially when I admit under oath that yes, you fully knew what I was going to do to Gabby, and agreed to it. You want to throw me to in the fire? Fine, let's all burn together. William will certainly be joining us up there for what he did to Chloe. So you want to take us all down, keep it all in mind that we're all tied together in this. And Gabby will likely end up meeting her grandparents, and how do you think they'll receive her, knowing where she comes from?" He nodded after this, knowing that he had managed to get out the majority of what needed to be said.
"Now, I know you're worried about losing all we've built over the years. But don't panic, and think. If William has some idea about the Chloe situation, he's a smart man, I trust him enough to know what he's doing. When he gets back, if he's got the situation in hand, then we're in perfect condition to keep moving forward." He said this last part softly, the tone he would take when he was telling her something important. "Trust me Callie. Just a little while longer, adn this will have only been a bump on the road."
William parked in front of Chloe's house. Her parents did quite all right to have a place like this. Not a mansion, but a large enough house that he had little doubt Chloe would almost always have her privacy. Probably one of the reasons that she started sleeping around. There would never be anyone around to call foul on her. William lifted the binder, and head for the door. He leaned on the frame, and knocked sharply.
