Eli went to the barn, and unhitched the new team, and opened the door to the barn to place them in a stall. As was his habbit, he looked down the row of stalls to see if the rest of the horses were peaceful. There were no other horses in the barn! He put up the team, before carefully checking the barn and the pasture. He found a long thread of expensive fabric hanging on Tibus' stall gate. He recognised the material. It belonged to the duchess. The conclusion was obvious, she had taken the horses. Knowing that she had them, he made some preparations before confronting her.
Eli went to the house and found Lilly sound asleep, and his mother still sewing. The girls were sound asleep as well. He went and spoke with his mother. "Lilly is ill and someone has stolen our horses. I believe I know where they are and I'm goin to get help and go after them. Don't wake lilly, she needs to sleep. If I am not back by morning, send for the king's guards. They will find me at the home of the duchess." He kissed his mother and went out of the house and mounting one of the team horses bareback with his sword on his belt, and bow and full quiver of arrows. He went to the home of his neighbor who helped him with the construction. John was more than happy to help. When he heard it was the Duchess they were after, he chuckled. "Well! the mighty have fallen!" He woke his two son's who were 19 and very strong, and the four of then set out after the horses.
The four of them arrived at the estate in the dead of night, and Eli led them to the stables. He whistled quietly for Tibus and got an immediate response. "The horses are here. You and the boys secure the barn, let no one come or go. I am going to collect the Duchess." He tied his horse to the fence, and took off across the paddock for the estate. When the butler answered the door. he was greeted by the tip of Eli's sword, and on Eli's word took him to her Chambers where she lay sleeping. Eli stood with the Butler at the door, while the terrified maid went to arouse her mistress. Looking sleepy, The duchess cameto the door a minute later. "You madam are a thief!" You have our horses, and I have evideence that you took them personally. I mean to take you before the king in irons. Get your self dressed." He kept his sword trained on the neck of the butler. "Please madam!" the butler pleaded "Do as he says!"
